On Modern Music and Generally Our Generation
Warning: This is very, very long. If you want to skip over it, please do. If you chose to read it, just be warned that a lot of it might not make much sense.
Anyway. Onto it.
This is a discussion sort of thing that I've been wanting to have for a while, because it's a pretty big topic. I'm just going to get right into it.
Honestly, all music these days isn't bad. I've learned to open my ears to stuff. For example, you know that Shawn Mendes (is that his name?) song which is called "I Can't Get You Off My Mind" or something? I kinda dig it, even though the production is really sappy. He's got a good voice, and the melody is pretty good. I'd listen to it if the production was a little better and it was cleaned up a little.
The point I'm trying to make is that we're not scuppered these days. There is talent in the music industry, believe it or not. Even sometimes in the mainstream. People have talent. It's just that they've become lazy and used AutoTune to cover up their bad singing skills. Or used simplistic and lazy lyrics. Or let technology do everything for them.
I'm not saying that technology shouldn't be used at all, obviously. You know Paul's new song, "Get Enough"? AutoTune was used in that song by means of experimentation, not to cover up Paul's vocals (by the way, I did love his vocals on that track).
So if people become a little less lazy and start relying on their own voices and instruments rather than technology, music would be a lot better these days.
Then obviously, there's very talented musicians out there who never really get a taste of fame due to how atrocious the music industry is in so many ways (they want people with good looks, simplistic and not really over complicated lyrics so people can dance to them, etc). Just a few days ago, I found out about this awesome guitarist named Shubh Saran. His music is great, just fantastic. But nobody has ever really heard of him since the music industry is so... locked in, if you know what I mean (you probably don't).
Okay, anyway, that's all I wanted to say about the music part of it. There's this great video, though, that I totally recommend you watch. It really changed my perspective.

(I'm sorry, I just love Adam Neely. You guys should totally check out his videos. They're fantastic for musicians like myself)
Anyway, onto stuff about... our generation.
I'm just going to say it. I'm not one of those people who thinks they were born in the "wrong generation". What's that even supposed to mean, though? Sure, I would love to time travel a few times to see the greatest band ever (ahem, The Beatles) live or meet them or whatever, but that's not what I was talking about. Do you know why? Because the past sucked. And so does the present. And so will the future. Examples: Racism back then with the whole civil rights movement, racism now with you-know-who in the White House, wars, gender equality... I literally could go on forever.
The truth is, the world isn't going to get better for a long, long time. Or be okay, for that matter, and we're just going to have to live with that. Because all the bad in the world teaches us to focus on the good stuff. We're making progress, but do you realize, that during every time period, there's something wrong? So wishing that you could live in the 60's or what have you will not make things better. Because there were people in the sixties who wished they were born in the 40's. And then there were people in the 40's who wish they were born in the 20s. And so on. Because you know what? The sixties weren't the golden age. Neither were the 70's, or anything, honestly. It's a golden age if we make it to be, if you know what I mean. It's a golden age if we decide to change, if we decide to become better people.
Shit, that was long.
Sorry about that. I needed to get it out. Happy new year, by the way. And good day to you all (why did I even say that? That sounded so... okay I'll shut up already)
(Also I'm sorry if none of that made sense. I was just typing it all in like one sitting and didn't really want to look it over for grammatical mistakes)
