Alice’s heart skipped a beat as she forced herself to hold the smile, her gaze flickering to her best friend, Emily—or as she lovingly called her, "Little Mermaid"—who was watching with a mix of quiet support and concern. Emily's calm, ocean-blue eyes seemed to anchor her in place, silently reassuring her.

“It’s so nice of you to attend my concert!” Alice’s voice was bright, almost too bright, as she reached out to give Danny Ricciardo a quick hug. The warmth in his embrace helped ease the tension that knotted in her chest.

“Of course, little star,” Danny grinned, introducing everyone around him, adding his usual charm to lighten the moment. Then came the last introduction, one that made Alice’s heart tighten ever so slightly.

“Hello! I’m Simone, Max’s girlfriend,” a blonde, stunning woman said with a wide smile, extending her hand toward Alice. It hung there just a second longer than it should have before Alice shook it, the words “big fan” rolling off Simone’s tongue with a chuckle.

Alice’s own laugh was small, just enough to cover the pang in her chest. Her hand lingered in the handshake a beat longer than necessary as she pulled herself together. She’d been through enough to know how to keep up appearances.

Alice’s eyes shifted to Max as Daniel introduced him, his familiar blue gaze meeting hers for a fleeting moment. The tension around them was unmistakable. Charles and Lando exchanged knowing glances, even Carlos, usually so carefree, looked suddenly uncomfortable. Daniel’s chuckle did little to dissolve the awkwardness hanging in the air.

“Alice!” Her manager’s voice cut through, calling her to the stage. She turned back, flashing them all a polite smile. “Pleasure to meet you guys. Hope you enjoy yourselves tonight.”

Before she could turn away, George cleared his throat, speaking up after a subtle nudge from Carmen. “Actually, the girls were hoping if you could join us for dinner later.”

Alice hesitated, masking her initial instinct to refuse. She opened her mouth, about to decline. “I kinda have plans with Em here, and—”

“Oh, she’s welcome to join, of course!” Carmen interrupted, her excitement bubbling over. Kika and the rest of the group chuckled, adding a lightness to the moment, though Alice could still feel the weight of old memories pulling at her heart. She glanced at Emily, who shot her an encouraging smile, as if to say, You’ve got this.
