My poetic confession to you (Part 1)

3rd person pov

You were in your room crumpling up another paper and tossing it inside the bin that was already filled with a lot of crumpled papers. You banged your head on your desk and grumbled angrily. Your brain isn't able to think of anything, especially words that you WANT and NEED to describe about your crush Poe. Yes, you (y/n) (l/n) have fallen in love with the former master architect of the Guild which is none other than Edgar Allan Poe. Let me tell you how (y/n) had fallen for Poe before I explained her predicament.

Flashback to a few months ago

You were running along the streets to get to the office as you know that you were gonna be late and work starts exactly at 9 am. You were usually early, but your partner happened to be out of snacks. You internally complained about Ranpo's sense of direction cuz if it wasn't for it, he would have been able to buy his own snacks instead of making you do his errand. "Ranpo-san better be grateful that I went to 2 stores just to buy his snack supplies. The audacity to call me first thing in the morning to make me buy his stuff. Not to mention there's like 2 big plastic bags filled with his snacks!" you complained while huffing angrily. You were glad that you decided to wear your favorite outfit today as it gave you a lot of comfort to run in with it.

This is what you're wearing

You were damn grateful that you're a tomboy instead of being a girly girl. You never liked wearing anything girly, especially those dresses and short skirts. It made you feel weird and out of place. While you were running you managed to look at your watch that was on your right wrist and you, and your eyes bulged once you saw that it was already 8:45 am. "OH HELL NO! I GOTTA PICK UP THE SPEED!" you yelled and ran as fast as you could.

At the ADA office

You kept running until you stopped at the door of the office. You looked at the time and it was 8:55 am and you closed your eyes and wiped your fake tears from your face. "Uhuk finally arrived on time!" you internally yelled. You sighed first then you opened the door to see the hyperactive detective running up to you and jumped on you causing to drop the bags that were in your hands and you having to hold him tight.

Please imagine that Poe is you while trying your best to hold Ranpo who jumped on you. Let's just say that you were holding Ranpo like a baby.

"You finally came (y/n)-chan! I thought you ditched my snack list!" Ranpo said while snuggling on your neck. You just sighed and pat his back. This thing is kind of normal between you and Ranpo, him jumping into you and you catching him and ending up in you hugging him with both of his feet wrapped around you like he was giving you the biggest hug ever. You were grateful that you were strong or not the both of you would have fallen on the ground. " I would never ditched your list Ranpo-san. Also make sure to never give me an urgent shopping spree again. I thought I would lose my life due to running a lot" you scolded him while patting his head. "Sorry about that (y/n)-chan. I thought there were still more snacks in my cabinet and it turns out there were none. Can you imagine me not surviving with snacks for the whole day?!" Ranpo yelled exasperated. You just chuckled at Ranpo's childish actions until your eyes wandered to his desk.

You noticed that there was someone who was fiddling with both of his hands and looked at the both of you nervously.

You tilted your head and whispered to Ranpo asking about who that guy was. (Btw you are still holding Ranpo in your embrace and you never get tired of it cuz to you Ranpo is pretty light) " Oh him. That's my friend Poe." Ranpo said while getting off from you and pulling you towards Poe. You noticed that the guy was pretty startled as you were pulled really close to him and you noticed that this guy was pretty shy which made you think that he was cute. "(Y/n)-chan meet Poe! He's the former master architect of the Guild." Ranpo excitedly introduced Poe to you. You just smiled and bowed at Poe. ( I'm going with (y/n) as a 23 year old lady😊). "Nice to meet you, Poe-san. I'm (y/n) (l/n)" you introduced yourself. " N-nice to meet you as well (l/n)-san. I'm Edgar Allan Poe, it's a pleasure to meet you as well" Poe nervously introduced himself to you. "No need to be nervous in front of me, Poe-san. I'm not gonna eat you." you said while grinning like a cheeky kid.

Poe's reaction towards your words

You noticed that Poe blushed like a strawberry and you thought it was cute. You always have a soft spot for cute guys tbh especially guys like Poe. " So why did you come here today, Poe-san? Did something happen?" you asked curiously. "He came here today cuz he wants me to solve another mystery novel that he created, so I'm gone for at least a few minutes. So now that the introductions are over I'm gonna go inside the book now!" Ranpo yelled happily and jumped inside the novel that Poe was holding. "W-wait Ranpo-kun! And he's gone... I hope that this mystery that he's gonna solve will take some time" he said. You were astonished at the fact that your senior just disappeared inside the book and Poe's ability kinda got your attention, so you decided to ask him about it. " Poe-san, what's your ability?" " My ability is called Black Cat in the Rue Morgue where I can transport anyone into a book that I have written" Poe replied while shyly scratching his face. " THAT'S AMAZING! You must be a talented writer if you can write a whole book. I can barely write a few paragraphs even though I do love reading" you eagerly told him. "Oh. You love to read as well? If you want (l/n)-san, I can give you my other books that I have written so far. My ability won't be activated when you touch it" he told you. "Thank you so much Poe-san! But do call me (y/n)-chan cuz I'm 23 years old" you said happily while giving him your biggest smile. "I-If you say so then (y/n)-chan" Poe said while blushing.

You and Poe spent time with each other for the next 6 months, with you always reading the books that Poe has written. Sometimes there were times when you tried to deduce something from one of the mystery novels to which Poe praised you for getting the right answer. There was also a time when Poe came to ask you for your opinion on the latest book that he was writing and you were happy to give him any opinion that he wanted. You felt happy being able to spend time with Poe talking about books and sometimes about personal life experiences, it kinda filled the empty void that you have been experiencing for a while now and that's when you noticed your feelings for Poe. You thought it was just admiration, but after spending time with Poe for around 6 months, you realized that it was love.

It has been 3 weeks since you noticed your newfound feelings for Poe and you were lost. You didn't know what to do with those feelings. You suddenly thought about your feelings for Poe and got embarrassed for thinking about it. You then hit your head on the desk trying to cover up . Thank your lucky stars that Poe was too busy to visit Ranpo recently or else he would have noticed your strange behavior. As you were busy contemplating your feelings, you didn't notice that Ranpo had sneaked up behind you. "BOO!" yelled Ranpo. "Kya! Ranpo-san what the hell?!" you yelled at your childish senior. "HAHAHA! You should have seen your face (y/n)-chan! It was priceless and not to mention your scream sounded so girly even though you're a tomboy" Ranpo said in between his laughs. You started blushing because you sounded too girly, so you just covered your face and just laid your head on your desk.

Ranpo noticed that you had been acting weird for 3 weeks now and he knew it had something to do with Poe, so he decided to tease you about it. "Ne~ (y/n)-chan if you love someone you should definitely confess to that person." Ranpo told you which made you jolt up from your desk and looked at him bewildered. "What the?! I-I never told you anything about having feelings towards Poe-san!" you stuttered. "Oh. I didn't mentioned anything about Poe you know~" Ranpo smirked at you. You blushed at this and internally cursed him. He definitely knew about your crush on Poe, yet he decides to tease you about it. You just sighed and admitted "Yeah I do have a thing for him, but... I don't know how to confess to him. I want to confess to him, but I wanna make it special, you know. Can you please give me any ideas Ranpo-san?" you asked him. Now this made Ranpo open his eyes wide in shock cuz never in his entire life of working and knowing you have ever said please or asked for advice from him. Ranpo thought for a few minutes and snapped his fingers when an idea came up in his head. "Why don't you try writing a poem for him? Both of you love reading right? A romantic poem is just the perfect thing for you." Ranpo suggested. Your eyes sparkled and you started to smile. "Thank you so much Ranpo-san! Imma start whipping up a good poem now. Wish me luck!" you said while walking out of the office to go back to your apartment.

End of flashback

It's been 3 hours and you have no idea. You were having a writer's block moment and damn writing one sentence has proven to become very hard for you. "How did Poe-san managed to write all of those books? It's amazing that he could write those books unlike me who's struggling to write a full sentence for a poem" you said sadly. You now admired the fact that Poe was willing to write a lot of books based on your preferences and the fact that he was able to give you the best reading materials made you fall for him even more. As you were deep in your thoughts, your phone rang and you started to panic because the caller was none other than Poe himself. You regain your composure and picked up the call.

"Hello (y/n)-chan I'm sorry for calling you right now. Were you busy just now?" Poe asked. "Nope. Not all Poe-san. Is there something wrong" you asked. "Not busy my ass, I was busy writing a poem only to get nothing from it" (this is what you said in your mind) " Nothing's wrong. I just wanted to ask you if you're free tomorrow. There's a book event tomorrow which also has a poetry recital being held. I thought you might want to come along as well" Poe said. " Your eyes wide when Poe talked about the poetry recital, and you had a brilliant idea that popped up in your mind. "Sure! I'll go with you!" you said happily. "Great! I'll pick you up at 9 am tomorrow" Poe said. " Sounds great! See you tomorrow then Poe-san!" you bid your farewell and hang up the call. After the call ended, a burst of ideas came into your head and you didn't waste any time to write everything in your book. After 2 hours of writing, you read your poetry again and felt satisfied with the outcome. You're gonna take the chance to confess to Poe in your way. You smiled victoriously and got up from your seat to get some snacks. While you were munching happily on your snacks, realization finally slapped you in the face.

This is your face when the realization hit you.

"WAIT DID POE-SAN JUST ASKED ME OUT ON A DATE AND I AGREED TO IT?!" you yelled out loud while feeling your face burning from embarrassment due to not realizing sooner.

The end

Himiko: I always said that I didn't want to write it too long,but when you have an idea you would definitely pour it all out. That is what I did for this story. I needed to make it into 2 parts cuz it was getting too long and I need to make a scene where Poe is also gonna do something special during the poetry recital.

Btw I'm starting my internship tomorrow so I think I would be updating the next part next weekend. I hope you all love this story and please be patient until the next part comes out. Until then goodbye 👋
