Chapter 63:
I was finally able to sneak a glance of myself in the mirror. I was so annoyed and grumpy after being forced to sit in one place for 3 hours that I couldn’t wait to run out of my room. Maddison wouldn’t even let me go pee, she said I could do all of that once she was done with my makeup. God alone knows what she did to my face for 2 whole hours.
Well, face and hair.
“Alright, open ‘em. I’m done, now all is left is your necklace, heels and of course, your dress” she said clapping her hands together.
“Firstly, my eyes were already open. I almost saw myself, and secondly, I can’t really see anything if you’re standing right in front of my face with your hands on your hips. You’re literally covering my face,”
She grinned at me, “Oops, but I couldn’t let you see yourself while I was still doing your makeup.”
I smiled at her, “I love you for that, I know you must have done a wonderful job and all, but right now I need to get up and stretch my limbs or else I will for sure be stuck in this position for the rest of my life”
She rolled her eyes, “You’re so dramatic, alright, alright, I’ll leave you to yourself, and I’ll go put my dress on”
Maddison was already done with her makeup; she was stripped into her spandex and a loose shirt over it. She hurried away from me and began stripping so she could put her dress on. I let out a light laugh, shaking my head at her hyperactivity.
Yes, I get it, prom equals big deal, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that my mom should be there.
She should have been here, the nagging kind who wants to take a couple 100 pictures of her kid and her date. I wouldn’t mind taking 1000 pictures if it meant for her to be here.
I sighed, and glimpsed at the mirror.
I had long wavy brown hair, they weren’t straight, nor were done in curls. They were nice, crispy waves. I haven’t ever seen my hair in waves, and it was a new look for me. I don’t know if it suited me or not? But, heck it looked good. Mom would have surely loved it.
My eyes were now fuller, outlined with think black wings on each side. My lashes looked so long and thick that someone could have mistaken them for fake ones, but they weren’t fake- that I knew for sure. I don’t know what the hell Maddison did but it worked. My lips were painted red, not very dark and bright though, it was minimal and made me look…alive?
Not that I was dead of course, it just gave much more life to my face.
I stared at my reflection for a few minutes taking in what a little makeup can do. My not so fantastic brown eyes now looked viewable. They now looked like the kinda eyes boys describe falling for.
I got up from my seat in front of the mirror and made my way towards the bed, where my dress was neatly laid out. I stared at that too, for a moment. It was so beautiful, all so perfect I was scared something would ruin it.
All I had to do was hope for the best; I couldn’t let anyone take this away.
This was my happy place.
I stripped out of my loose t-shirt and sweats, carefully trying not to mess my hair up. Then I slipped into the gorgeous silver-white dress Ashton bought for me. I had no idea from where; I had never seen anything like this in the market. It fit me perfectly, hugged my curves on the right places.
I checked myself out in the mirror, making sure everything looked in place.
Then, I held my angel necklace in my palms and left my room with Maddison calling behind me, asking me where I was running off to. I stuffed my legs into my heels on the way out and descended the stairs.
I wanted the whole cliché show of getting down the stairs while your date waits for you, and he is in awe kind of thing, but I couldn’t, I needed Ashton, and only Ashton to clasp my necklace.
I ran out of my house and towards Ashton’s, I could have used the back lawn since it was far more easier, however I had a floor length dress and one that I had no intention of spoiling anytime soon.
I barged in through the front door, “Hi Lils, bye Lils!” I said as I passed Lily in the hallway.
I ran upstairs to Ashton’s room and stepped inside.
“Ash!” I called out happily, as I couldn’t see him around the room.
The next moment he came out through the washroom, wearing black dressy pants and no shirt.
Oh my holy flipping cheesecake
He is hot.
“Diana, what are you doing he-” he stopped mid sentence as his eyes caught mine. He then did an one over on me, his eyes leading a trail from my eyes down to my lips, to my breasts, to my waist, and all the way to my not so long legs, “wow, you look gorgeous” he said with complete awe.
I blushed, “Yeah sorry for randomly breaking into your room, but I needed for you to make me wear this piece of jewelry, it’s kind of like a tradition now”
He smirked, “So we have our own little traditional now?”
“Sort of”
I stepped closer to him and his hand shot out and pulled me flush against him. He then turned me around so I was now facing the mirror.
I was still processing what was happening, and Ashton breathing down my neck wasn’t helping either.
“The necklace?” he whispered beside my ears.
I closed my eyes at the sound of his voice, it send shivers down my spine. Ashton placed one of his hands on my waist, and that was the only reason I was standing straight because my knees were about to give up, and drop me down to the floor.
I subconsciously lifted my palms till my shoulders, giving him access to the necklace.
He took it from my palms and I let them fall to my sides.
His hands clasped the necklace, and he stepped away from me. I pouted in the mirror; I was hoping for a little more something-something.
He went back towards his bed where his white dress shirt, black blazer and silver tie laid.
He picked up the shirt and winked at me, “Care to do the honors?”
I shrugged, “Not really, can you just not wear it maybe?”
“Now you would like that, wouldn’t you?”
“A lot actually,” I replied with complete honesty.
“And what about the other girls who swoon over me?” he asked.
I cringed at that, so many girls were after him, it wasn’t even funny.
“If they ever dare to look, I will pop their eyes out,” I said like it was no big deal.
He laughed at me with amusement, “I don’t know if I should come kiss you or stay away from you”
“I don’t know, just put the shirt on, it’s hard to think when it’s not on”
He smirked.
Oh gods, I knew that half smirk with the glint in his eyes. He was planning on doing something.
He then slipped his hands through the sleeves, he left the shirt unbuttoned and walked towards me. Butterflies flew around in the pit of my stomach. I was nervous and not thinking right. He was looking at me with the expression I have always imagined someone looking at me with.
It was like how Nathan looked at Haley from one tree hill,
Or even better, the way Percy looked at Annabeth,
Or how Romeo looked at Juliet
The way the authors described, it was all happening right in front of my eyes. I always thought it was only book talk, but it wasn’t. At least I don’t believe so after witnessing it. It’s like time slowed down around me, his walk seemed to slow down to 1 second per movement. I don’t think that made any sense or that you understood what I meant, but gods, was it hot in here or what?
He finally stood an inch away from me.
His hands wrapped around my waist tightly, as he pulled me into a kiss. His lips smashed onto mine, parting them with his. My breathing got caught in my throat. My body responded immediately as I pulled him closer to me by wrapping my arms around his waist, from under his shirt. The unbuttoning helped, and now I was grateful for so.
His muscles tensed under my touch and I grinned because I caused that kind of reaction from him.
His hand trailed up to the back of my shoulder and then towards my hair. Then I pictured Maddison…
Maddison?
Maddison.
“Oh my god, Maddison!” I yelled, pulling apart from Ashton.
A confused expression flashed on his face.
“You’re kissing me and thinking about Maddison? Is there something I am supposed to know?” he asked me, not sure if he was serious or he was joking.
I rolled my eyes, “I said that because you touched my hair! She spent hours doing them, and if you even ruin a strand she is going to go all ape shit on your ass. I only saved you, thank me”
His eyes widened and he gulped, his Adams apple bobbed up and down.
“Alright, fuck, she is scary when she is mad”
I grinned at him, “Let’s get going?” I asked as I buttoned his shirt up, his toned body and abs very really, really distracting.
“Are you sure you want to dress me up, and not undress?” he asked, sending a wink my way as I looked up to meet his eyes.
“Well,” I gulped, “I don’t exactly want you to button it up…but sadly I need you to, so just do it fast and get dressed please, we’ll get late!”
“Does it look like I mind?” he asked me raising his eyebrow. Seriously I am never getting over this, I hate it, I absolutely hate it when people can do that. Like what the hell went wrong with my eyes? Did god forget to put an eyebrow raising muscle in my body? Do I have one muscle less? Because I am sick of it, I try every single time, and I fail. How much more failure can my poor eyebrows take? Like they have feelings too…
“I’m done, do you know how to tie a tie?” he asked me
I shook my head and scoffed, “does it look like I know how to tie a tie?”
He smiled, “of course not, who am I kidding?”
I sent him a flying kiss and strolled out of the room, knowing he’d follow me. We made our way down the steps only to be ambushed by Lily.
“Stop right there you two, not a step forward, you hear me? Not a flipping step forward” she warned
I looked at her, and then at Ashton, wide eyed.
He put a hand on my shoulder and then asked Lily, “What are you trying to do, Mom…this is a little bit creepy” he added later on.
Lily raised her eyebrows at him.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Two times in a row…twice…
“Okay sorry, you’re not creepy, not at all, I was just kidding” Ashton said with mock laughter.
I chuckled; they were so cute I could eat them.
Then Lily showed us the finger.
.
.
.
No, not the finger, she showed us her index finger-signaling us to wait a minute.
Then she whipped out her professional camera which I remember she got during her ‘photographer’ phase, she thought she was the best one in the world and she got about a million difference lenses along with stands and those light thingy’s, she had the whole set.
“Oh my gods, you’re going to make us have a proper photo shoot aren’t you?” I asked, groaning
“Yes dear, of course. It’s my two favorite people in the world’s first prom! I have been waiting for this moment ever since Ashton got you home for the first time to play, and you are just so cute I am going to die.” She cleared her throat, “sorry, I think the teenager inside me just popped out for a second there”
I burst out laughing. Lily was seriously so cute.
Ashton tightened his grip on my shoulder, “No, no way are we doing this, mom, we’re getting really late and Anns wants to make this grand entrance-”
I interrupted him “No I don’t!”
“-yes you do, now don’t interrupt me. Moving on-”
He was cut off again, but this time by Lils, “It’s funny how you think I will listen to you. Get your butt here you little thing, you’re still my son, and you’re not even 18, I can order you around as much as I want for 2 reasons, one- I’m your mom and two- I am your mom. I own you, I feed you, and you will listen to me without even raising one eyebrow or opening your mouth. Come on down, and stand here as I tell you.” She ordered, speaking in this firm voice.
Ashton was taken aback.
All voice left his throat, and he remained there stunned and speechless.
I gave Lily an air-five.
Before starting Lily fixed up Ashton’s tie.
After exactly 34 minutes of clicking pictures in different poses, I managed to get one selfie of Ashton and me, and upload it on instagram. Lily was the perfect photographer and she literally squealed and fangirled over the two of us.
Ashton dragged me out of the house and we entered mine.
“What are the two of you doing here? Where are your dates?” I asked as I saw Jeremy and Andrew raid my pantry looking for food to gobble up.
Before they could reply, “Chips are stalked up in the back”
Jeremy flashed me a thumbs up and both he and Andrew made their way to retrieve the food.
I waited for the two them to come back with a bag full of chips. They seated themselves on the chairs and began hogging up all at once.
With a mouthful of chips Jer said, “We’re waiting for the girls.”
“Lisa is here?” I asked.
Jeremy nodded, too engrossed in his chips to reply.
Just like every other group, we had booked a limo for the night too, it was like a prom tradition, I wasn’t so keen on it, I didn’t really mind going in our normal cars but according to the rest of my friends we’d all be too tired to drive.
That, and also they wanted to make an entrance in a limo.
I waited downstairs for Maddison and Lisa to be done; I didn’t feel like climbing up anymore in these heels.
The wait was finally over and the two of them finally came down, we gushed about how beautiful everyone looked: Maddison in her deep blue gown with silver linings, and Lisa in her violet flow-y one. We took a couple of pictures and stepped outside, where the limo awaited us.
We were all wearing colors of the night.
All the guys’ ties matched with our dresses and it all just felt so right.
“You look gorgeous, by the way,” Jeremy commented as he got into the car beside me.
I blushed, and thanked him.
Mason was riding with his date; he said he’d skip the limo opportunity because he wanted his date to be a surprise. I have a strong feeling that he doesn’t have a date.
The ride to school was short.
Prom was being held in the school’s ground, since everywhere in other schools, people had proms in big hall rooms or gyms, the organizing committee decided it would be a great idea for us to do something in the open.
For the entrance, there were white and silver satin curtains draped somewhere on top, that fell down loosely till it touched the ground, you had to push them apart and pass through the middle.
I gasped at what I saw in front of me.
There were lights put up, gelatin papers covered the stadium lights, there were these huge poles set up in a circle, creating a boundary, holding disco balls on top of them. There were some also scattered across the ground here and there. There were tiny little glow in the dark stars sprinkled all over the lawn, there were those torch light thingies that moved from one corner to another-we all got flashed with bright light at one point of time-there were little white lights twirling around the poles. On both the sides were rows of food set up, a chocolate fountain in the middle. The thing that surprised me the most was the dance floor.
It was on a level higher than we were, obviously, but it was decorated with cotton I am guessing since it was giving an effect of clouds. The floor was huge, and decorated with little star hangings all over on top; there was a makeshift night sky sorta thing when you looked up from the floor.
There was a dj blasting music to the left of the stage, who was set up on a higher level even in comparison with the dance floor.
There was a stage to the left of it, a long makeshift stage that leveled with the dance floor. There was a podium and a mike, and a couple of chairs where the teachers sat on.
If you haven’t guessed yet, the theme was Night with the stars.
