Part 6

Dizziness swirled inside her head. Faye tried to move her body, but it was too heavy. Her wrist ached and her mouth felt like sandpaper.

She forced her eyes open. The first thing she saw was the wooden floor she lied on, and then, five feet away from her, a broken window frame leaned against the wall. Somehow, the place was oddly familiar.

Faye tried to move her hands, trying to push herself off the floor. A bad choice. The gesture was so painful, she groaned loudly. She must have been in that position for a long time, since her hands felt both sore and stiff. Her hands were tied to the foot of a cupboard behind her back.

Realization started to settle in. She just woke up unconscious at an unknown place! Who knew what could happen to her.

Faye desperately tried to pull her hands out. It hurt like crazy, but she kept on shaking her hands, trying to free them. The more she yanked, the more panic surged through her.

It doesn't work! It doesn't work! Why won't it work?

She pulled harder. Her hands screamed with pain. Faye could feel something wet and warm tickling her skin. Blood. The rope had cut her wrists.

"Stop struggling."

Faye turned her head towards the voice. Alex stood in the corner of the room. He was casually leaning against the wall with hands in his pockets, as if this was just another normal day.

"You can't escape me," he said with a smile. His voice was strong and firm, confident in his authority.

Fear seized her chest. Alex... he looked so terrifying. The Alex in front of her was did not resemble the Alex she met in the infirmary. The face was the same, but his eyes were different. His eyes looked dead. It was as if the kind and charming Alex didn't exist at all.

"W-why?" Faye managed to ask.

"Why, you ask," he said calmly. He took out his hands and pushed himself off the wall. "Well, that's a good question."

He approached and squatted down before her. "The answer is quite simple; you disgust me."

He smiled a lifeless smile. His eyes stared into hers with intensity. Faye felt her skin crawl and her body tremble. His gaze scared her, no, everything about him scared her. Turning her head didn't help. She could still feel his gaze. Even breathing became problematic. She begged and prayed that he would stop looking at her like that.

"I actually loved you, you know," Alex said. His tone was suddenly soft and barely a whisper. He gently touched her cheek with his fingers. Faye flinched at the sudden touch. Alex, who was provoked by her movements, grabbed her chin and forced her to look at him.

"Did you hear me?! I loved you! I loved you like crazy and you don't even remember me!!" Alex shouted at her face. The grip on her chin fastened. Faye gasped when his nails dug into her skin.

"I don't understand what you're talking about," she said desperately. Her cheeks were burning.

"We used to be classmates. In elementary school. Everything I told you in the infirmary was true, except when I said that I haven't met the person who saved me again." Alex seemed to calm down. His still held her chin, but his grip loosened. "You were the one that saved me."

Faye thought about what he said. Really? Did she know Alex before? There seemed to be a small memory somewhere back in her mind, but she couldn't quite grasp it.

"Then why?" she asked. She still couldn't remember him, but she wanted to know why he did all those things to her. "If I saved you, why did you stalk me? Taking pictures of me, sending them back to me and then act like you were concerned about me?"

Alex laughed. "Oh, Faye, you don't give me enough credits. I also sent you the fake letter about Jack and made sure he saw us walking home together," he said.

"You-" Faye started. "You ruined our relationsh-!"

"SHUT UP! You think I'm insane, right? You think I'm messed up, RIGHT?!" he shouted. "Let me tell you this. You are nothing better than me. You are as crazy and heartless as I am!"

Alex pointed a finger at her. "The one ruining the relationship was you! It's not my fault that you chose to believe an anonymous letter rather than your own boyfriend."

Guilt punched her in the gut. Alex was right. She just wanted someone to put her blame on. In the end, it was her fault.

"Feeling guilty, aren't you?" Alex laughed, looking satisfied. "Listen closely. It's true that Jack lied to you about basket practices, but guess why he did that." He paused for a short moment, letting Faye chew on the words.

"He was working at his part-time job, so that he could buy something expensive for your birthday." He chuckled. "My, aren't you cruel?"

The shock and guilt that displayed on her facial features pleased him, but Faye didn't care at that moment. She was shaking her head, tears on the edge of her eyes. No, no, no! What have I done?! She was only thinking of herself, and didn't even try to understand Jack. She just went and accused him, while he was working for her sake. Horrible. I'm absolutely horrible.

"The old Faye would never think ill of anyone, especially those who are close to her, but here you go ahead accuse your own boyfriend," he said with disgust.

"Do you still consider yourself the victim? These past years, I've been changing myself, just so I could be worthy of loving you. I stopped eating, I trained until I bleed, I studied as hell, and I wasted my whole damned childhood so I could match up with you. And here you are; the total opposite of whom you used to be!"

He leaned closer, and once again, seized her chin with his hand. "You only think of yourself! Your grades sucks and you're selfish! You don't see anything beyond your own problems!" Alex had raised his voice and tightened his hold.

"Although you know that there's bullying at school, you act like everything is alright! You know that Tori always date the wrong guy, but you don't care. What about Erika's problems with her drug addicted parents? You don't give a shit!"

Faye could barely breathe. She was choking after breath. Her head shook desperately, trying to escape from his hand, but he didn't loosen his grip. It was as if he didn't feel it at all.

"WHAT THE HELL HAVE YOU DONE TO THE FAYE THAT SAVED ME?!"

Alex slammed his fist into the cupboard behind her. The hit was so strong; the whole cupboard shook until teacups fell. One after another broke as it hit the floor. Faye ducked her head, afraid of getting hit by the cups.

Tears stung in her eyes, but not because of the pain. She felt terrible. Rotten to the core. It's hard to admit it, but every single word he said was true. She had been self centered these last years, blocking the world outside her own. She knew of Tori and Erika's problems. She knew, but she didn't care. She didn't want to care.

It just happened. She just suddenly stopped caring about things that didn't concern her. Things just changed when life got tougher in high school. Now that her way of living was described by Alex, Faye realized how wrong it was.

While lost in her thoughts of guilt, she didn't notice that Alex had let go of her. He stood three feet away from her, his smirk had returned. In his right hand was a bottle of glass. Alex let the bottle fall to the ground, and a transparent liquid spilled out.

Faye's stomach turned when the smell of gasoline filled the small room. Alex laughed and squatted down.

"Let's play a game, Faye!" he said with an excitement that brought chills to her spine. He pulled out a box of matches from his pocket, and lit up three matches.

"Tell me, Faye, are you broken?" he asked, while studying the flames with interest.

"W-what are you talking about?" she asked, silently hoping that he wouldn't let it near the gasoline.

"Wrong answer!" he shouted playfully. "The right answer is yes, you are broken." His eyes turned dark when he, through gritted teeth, whispered: "And whatever that's broken should be destroyed."

Alex let the matches fall from his fingers. As soon as it touched the floor, the tiny flames exploded into a huge fire. The heat hit her so hard; she felt her body slam against the cupboard. More cups and glasses fell down.

"My, aren't you cute? Just look how frightened you are!" Alex laughed.

It's over.

She's going to die.
