Chapter 16: Falling Apart
Your P.O.V.:
It's happening again. Everything is seperating at the seams, and everything is falling apart.
Somehow, Medusa had managed to take control of you once again. You just couldn't understand. Why you? You'd already gone through so much. Every single time everything had gone back to normal, she had shown up to shake things up once more.
"(Y/n)?" Yukine asked, shaking you out of your panicked thoughts.
You hesitated to respond, just continuing to loom and stare at the ground.
You felt as if you'd let him down, and that it was your fault things had gone this way.
After all, with Medusa's plan, you would never be allowed to see Yukine again, let alone finish what you'd started together.
"Is everything okay? You've been acting weird all day.." He spoke up, turning his attention away from the cotton candy he had been enjoying.
"I'm fine.. just feeling a little queasy." You mumbled quietly.
"You know, I can tell when you lie. Something's up." He eyed you suspiciously.
You perked up, anxiously rubbing your cold arms. "I'm not lying.. I just don't feel well."
You wanted so badly to tell him the truth. To explain to him that you didn't want to leave him, and there was nothing you could do. You yearned that this all was over.
To think, this would probably be your last night with him. Your last night serving Yato. Your last night being acquainted with Hiyori.
It would be your last night being (Y/n).
"I don't believe that, (Y/n). Now really, what's up? Do you think that after all we've been through together, you still can't tell me what you're going through?" The blonde asked with anxious eyes.
You gulped at this, almost on the verge of tears.
No. You can't cry. You're doing this to save him.
"I'm just a little sad that we have to leave Capypaya Land so soon. I had so much fun..!" You boasted with a faux grin.
Yukine's suspicious aura disappeared as his thin lipped expression faded into that of a smile.
"You didn't have much fun on the rollercoasters, now did you?" He chuckled.
"Nah. I think I liked the smaller rides a lot better." You said quietly.
"That's good. Y'know, I had a lot of fun with you, (Y/n)." He said happily, and threw one of his arms around your shoulders.
You squeezed your eyes tight, as you pushed him away from you in a fit.
"(Y/n) what'd-"
"Yukine, I love you. I love you so much. Please don't ever forget that." You exclaimed, before pressing your lips sharply against his.
His eyes widened in surprise, but he kissed back, slowly wrapping his arms around your waist.
You melted into each other, refraining from letting go. Though, you never wanted to.
You were gonna miss him. Every single part of his being. The bright shimmery tones of his satin blonde hair, how he seemed to dawn a blush of pink each time he had been around you, or his sunset toned eyes that you'd fallen in love with the moment yours fell into sync with them.
The way he was stubborn sometimes, and the way he would stare at you in wonder before you had woken up as if you were the most beautiful sunrise he had ever had the pleasure of witnessing. Every single part of him.
"Heyyy kids, cool it on the lip." Yato said sarcastically, with Hiyori in tow. It appeared that they had come from a ride close by with a sudden announcent about their presence.
Your lips slowly pulled away from his, as he looked at you with wide eyes and a vibrant red blush.
"Uh... I l-love you t-too, (Y/n).." He stuttered, as you could still feel the rushed pace of his breathing brushing against your lips.
Hiyori squealed, interrupting the locking stare you'd had with each other.
"Oh my gosh, sooo cute!" She chanted exitedly.
Yato then seductively waggled his eyebrows, whilst snaking an arm around her waist.
"Say, Hiyori... why don't you ever kiss me like that?"
**************************
Later that night, you had all returned home to Kofuku's.
Yukine and Yato had both gone to bed, and you were left alone with your thoughts, and an empty backpack. A place you'd never imagined you'd be in.
You couldn't imagine bidding farewell to them. Yet, that was what you were about to do.
You gazed at Yukine, his terse breaths causing his chest to rise and fall softly with a steady pace.
You smiled solemnly, carefully pulling a blanket up over his shoulders before pressing a small kiss to his forehead.
All the while, tears began to stain your skin, as you began to pack the bag.
'You don't have to do this. You don't need to this. You don't have to leave your family behind.'
Your mind attempted to convince you, but you knew there was no way to get out of this one.
You began to place all your belongings in your bag, quickly doing so. You didn't wanna have to explain to Yukine or Yato what you were doing had one of them woken up.
After a few minutes, you'd finished packing everything up, the only thing left being a few silly pictures you and Yukine had taken at a photo booth earlier tonight and the scarf that he'd both you a few months ago.
You admired the item, allowing your memories of recieving it to flow back into your brain.
Yukine had saved up just to pay for it for you, and gone all the way across town just to get it.
You cherished it, but you just couldn't bring yourself to put it in the bag along with all of your other belongings.
You sighed, placing the pictures into your backpack and leaving the silk scarf out. Despite your mind pleading with you to stay, and every single atom in your body attempting to hold you down in your very spot, you knew what it was time to do.
You glanced back at Yukine once more, a soft blush coating his cheeks.
By tomorrow, he and the others would probably be searching all over the city for you.
But it'd be too late. You would be gone.
You walked over to his bed again, carefully placing your scarf on his chest.
"Don't forget about me," You whispered, before quietly making your exit.
**************************
Successfully, you'd snuck out of Kofuku's place unseen and unheard, despite the fact that once you were down the street you'd lost it.
It was all gone. Every single memory from the moment you'd met the god-regalia duo to merely an hour ago was gone.
The first time he smiled at you, he dawned a blush and spoke with a stutter. The first time you kissed, you were soaked in rain water thought heat continue radiate between the two of you. The time he held you in his arms until you stopped crying, whispering how everything was going to be okay, and how you believed it would be. When he'd bought you the scarf, your joy practically radiating off you as you collided into his arms with happiness. The first time he'd uttered the words, 'I love you.', and you knew that you felt the exact same way.
He was the light to your darkness, the very thing you feared going back into. Darkness had consumed you before you began to serve under Yato, and even made its fair share of appearances when you were serving under him.
Somehow, it had gotten you in its clutches once again, and it wasn't letting you go this time, though you wished desperately that it would.
"Perhaps thats because its what you are, Kuragari." Medusa had turned up out of the blue once again.
You snapped around, frantically looking for her. "Why me, huh?! Why did you choose me?!" You screamed.
She placed her chilled hand on your shoulder, causing you to yelp in surprise.
"You hold a darker power greater than anything I've ever seen. That is why I named you after the darkness. I believed Yukine would prove to be a potential source of strength as he is a blessed regalia, but no.. you hold something much greater. Yato has no idea what power he had once yielded."
Your eyes fell to the name that had tainted your skin, glowing faintly in the night light.
"Don't you see, (Y/n)? All you ever bring those two is pain. You couldn't even allow Yukine to find his past, and you're blighting that Yato god constantly. You're destined for evil. You're destined to be with me.." She continued, leaning her face close to yours. Unlike every other time you'd had encounters with her, a surprisingly calm aura surrounded her. It began to cradle you, as if you were an infant and it was the blanket.
You breathed silently, not bothering to say a word. She wss right. She was completely right. Maybe it was better that your past with Yukine had never existed.
"You tried to kill that dear Yukine of yours. Send him into the eternal darkness that he once wished to escape. You are the thing he fears, Kuragari."
Tears that fell from your eyes were warm, but carried no emotion with them.
"Y-you're right.." You whispered.
"There's no need to cry, darling. It's just time for me to show you where you really belong." Medusa said warmly, holding her hand out to you. You stared at it blankly for a while, considering what you would be leaving behind.
It was wrong to put Yato and Yukine through everything that trailed behind you.
You took her hand, leaving behind everything you had once known.
Down on the sidewalk, lie a photo of a blonde haired boy and a (h/c) haired girl, smiling.. happy. You would've believed they were destined for eachother.
Though, maybe snow and darkness just aren't meant to go together.
The End.
