Chapter 2
Snow covered the now dead grass, being shoveled off of the sidewalk and driveways. I wrapped my dark green scarf closer around my neck and coat collar, trapping the heat. Thin layers of ice cracked underneath me as I walked over it, leaving my bootprints behind.
Soon a big sign appeared, reading"Maria's Local Park".
Walking through the entrance, I took a breath, hearing children's playful screams and laughter. Slowly, I made my way towards the abandoned swings and carefully shook off the light pile of snow. Sitting down, I pushed myself slightly. I tilted my head up and breathed out. Closing my eyes, I felt the icy air blush my frozen cheeks as the swing lifted more from the ground. Its not a everyday sight really, to see a twenty four year old man on a swing set. But I just don't care. I opened my eyes and slowed myself , a quite creaking sound escaped from the set as I stopped completely.
I jumped off and started towards the exit, bored. Suddenly, something caught my attention. A little boy sitting underneath a large pine tree by himself. He looked cold. I followed his longing gaze to find running children. ' He wants to play...' I thought to myself and started walking towards him.
I don't know why I did what I did, it happened as if I was meant to. I sat down next to him, scaring him slightly." Look kid, if you want to play with them. Just go ask." I said, taking off my scarf."...U-uh," He stuttered." I don't think they'd want to."
I stared at the dark shades of green on my scarf, thinking.
" you wouldn't know that unless you tried." Great, now I sound like a mom.
"..."
" Are you cold?"
He didn't respond.
I looked over at him, he was only wearing a big black hoodie and gray jeans, and dark blue boots.
I felt bad for him. I stood up and patted his blonde messy hair.
Quickly, I wrapped my warm scarf loosely over his shoulders and tossed the end over his face, covering one of his big bright green eyes.
I turned my head and spoke.
"Well what are you waiting for, go and get them!" He looked up at me and soon formed a big smile. "O-okay!" He stumbled to his feet, barely above my elbow. I watched as he ran towards the others, but the stopped and turned to look at me." Thanks mister!" He yelled and started running again, a small blush on his white cheeks.
I laughed slightly and walked out of the park, already knowing he'd be just fine.
