Chapter 12: A New Adventure
Lucy's POV
"So your telling me that you found Natsu and he was alive when you got there?" Erza asks, dumbfounded. "Yeah...." I look down. "Why are you so surprised? It takes a lot to bring this dragon slayer down!" Natsu exclaims proudly. Erza and I chuckle at his childish ways. Another thing I missed for those 5 days he was 'dead'. "All jokes aside, how are you still here? I though you died?" Gray asks. "Yeah, from what I heard, there was no life source or magic power coming from your body, not even a trace or movement. It should be impossible!" Wendy questions, walking up to us. "Hey, I wish I knew, but I don't so..." Natsu trails off. We all stay silent for awhile before Wendy breaks the silence. "Hey, we should go on a job! Just the five of us, like old times." "Good Idea." Erza nods. "I'm in." Gray adds. Natsu and I agree and we head to the job request board. We end up picking this job request to help investigate a flooding of a nearby village. I head home. Natsu walks me there so we could catch up on the way. When I get home, I bid Natsu goodbye as I walk into my apartment. So much happened today, and I'm going on a job tomorrow, so I could really use a break.
The next day comes quickly. I pack my belongings and walk into the living room when I see Natsu sleeping on the couch. "AAAAAAAAAH! N-NATSU!" I blush. "HOW'D YOU GET IN??!??!?!" The boy rubs his head. "Geez Luce, way to wake me up." He groans. "Whatever pervert! Anyways we have to go, we're leaving for the mission." I look beside him and see a missing blue feline. "Hey where's Happy?" I ask. "He went early to go see Carla." Natsu answers. He then smirks and pins me to the wall. "EEp!" I whimper. "Why? Is there something I should know." Natsu smirks. "N-Natsu get off! We're going to be late." He shrugs and lets go. Baka, I groan in my head. We then walk to the guild, ready to embark on our new adventure.
"Oh, you must be the Fairy Tail Wizards! Come on in!" A little girl about the age of 7 says. She leads us through the huge house till we reach a study, specifically her fathers. "Father will see you now." She grins and opens the door. A peculiar looking man with brown hair and slanted eyes welcomes us in. "Ah it's the Fairy Tail wizards! Right on time to say the least!" He pipes while sitting in his chair. "Now to get to the mission."
We eye each other, then look back at the man whose twiddling with his mustache. "Let's see, about a week ago, some villagers of our town started to disappear. I know you think they just decided to move, but this was different. When they left, everything in their house would be on. Their lights, there stove, everything. It was as if they just, vanished." We stand in silence for awhile before Erza steps up. "Don't worry, we should be finished by the end of today." We all stare quizzically at Erza, but then nod. We don't want to get on her bad side. I guess some things never do change.
"So Erza, what'd you have in mind?" Gray asks. Erza nods. "We're heading to one of the houses." "Um.. on second thought I'm good!" I stutter. Wendy shuffles behind me. "Me too!"
Erza looks at us. "We have to. It's our only lead."
When we get to the house, Erza stops and turns around. "Natsu." Erza looks at Nastu before continuing. "Could you possibly use this to sniff out the missing people?" "Well why didn't you say that sooner?" Natsu grins and Erza slightly blushes. I can't help but feel a small ping of jealousy.
Natsu walks around the house for awhile before returning outside to us. He points in a direction. "That way, I can definitely smell it." Natsu explains. "Thanks, Natsu." Erza nods. "Well what are we waiting for?" Gray says. "Yeah, Let's go!" Wendy cheers. "Hai!" we all say, and head in the direction of the prisoners.
We arrive at a place that looks like a small cave. "Really? That's it?" Natsu questions. "Idiot! That's what they want us to think. Haven't you ever heard the phrase don't judge a book by it's cover?" I pout. "Huh? I thought it was the bunny by its whiskers?" Natsu scratches his head. I grumble. Erza steps forward, ignoring our little quarrel. "Gray, Natsu, and I will distract any form of guards while Wendy and Lucy, you two will go find the prisoners and free them. Understand?" Erza explains. We all nod and head into the cave. Wendy and I were a little behind them so that we couldn't easily be seen.
"Hey! Over there!" A random guard calls out. "The village sent reinforcements. Seize them!" One head guard says. We all nod at each other and the first half of the group starts to attack. Wendy and I take this chance and run into the tunnel behind us. "Hey, you there!" A guard yells at us. Crap! "Hey, isn't your attention supposed to be on us?" Gray asks before blocking the entrance with ice. Thank goodness, I think. I'll have to thank him later. I smile and run off into the dark tunnel with Wendy.
"Can you smell it Wendy?" I ask her. "A little. Not as well but I can still smell it. We're in the right direction." Wendy assures me. I nod. I start to see the tunnel end into two different ways. We walk a little ahead before I feel something grab me. "Lucy, wait!" She grabs me just in time before seeing a guard walk past the intersection. "Wow that was close, thanks Wendy." I say. "Oh! It was nothing!" Wendy waves her hands in front of her nonexistent chest before holding it self-consciously. I chuckle. "Shall we?" I grin. She nods and we continue down the hallway.
