Secrets Revealed...
Picking up things we shouldn’t read
It looks like the end of history as we know
It’s just the end of the world
Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as love, you could, you can
Into a place where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it’s nine in the afternoon
And we know that it could be
And we know that it should
And you know that you feel it too

“Well what do you want to do?” He asked and flopped down on his bed.
“Move over,” I told him but he smiled and crossed his arms behind his head.
“What’s the magic word?” He sang teasingly.
I huffed, “You’re so mean to me today.”
“That’s not the magic word.” His face scrunched up with mock confusion.
“Shut up, Brendon,” I hissed.
“That’s not it either.”
“Fine. Can you please move over so I can lay down?”
“Nope.”
Smack
“Ow! Izzy!”
I laughed and looked out his window. When I noticed the pool in the back my eyes widened.
“Why didn’t you tell me you had a pool?” I demanded.
“Because it never came up.”
“How rich are you?” I asked him.
“I’m not. You wanna go swimming?”
“I don’t even have a bathing suit.”
He rolled his eyes at me. “That’s an easy fix, Izzy,” He snorted. “Just borrow one of my sisters.”
“That’s weird,” My face scrunched up. “I don’t even know you’re sister.”
“She won’t mind,” He assured me.
“If you’re sure.”
“I’m sure,” He laughed.
*----~----*
“Are you really just going to float the whole time?” He whined.
“Yes, yes I am. It’s relaxing. Something you should try.”
“Relaxing is boring. Let’s play a game,” He said excitedly.
“You’re such a kid,” I groaned. “Fine, what game?”
“Attack the girl in the red bathing suit,” He grinned wickedly and lunged at me.
“Brendon!” I screamed trying to get away from him but it was too late. He had already grabbed me. “What are you going to do?”
He didn’t answer me. Instead he carried me out of the pool and climbed up the ladder to his diving board.
How did he do that while carrying me?
“Are you ready to meet your doom?”
“I’m not scared of heights, Brendon,” I lied.
“Liar,” He smirked.
“How do you know?”
“Bree told me.”
“Dammit,” I groaned and he laughed. “Seriously Brendon I am deathly afraid of heights.
“That’s just cause you haven’t had the right person to help you get over it,” He said. “And now you do,” He set me down on the diving board next to him. “It’s not even that high.”
“I still don’t want to jump,” I said firmly.
“C’mon Izzy. Jump with me,” He urged and held out his hand. I stared at it for a while before shaking my head.
“No.”
“Izzy, jump with me,” He looked me dead in the eye.
“No.”
“Yes.”
“I’m not jumping, Bren.”
“C’mon take a chance, Iz,” He held his hand out again. “For me.”
…
…
“You suck,” I growled at him.
“I’m guessing that means yes,” He laughed and I grasped his hand.
“If I die…”
“You’re not going to die, Izzy,” Brendon rolled his eyes. “Believe me.”
“I believe you.”
*----~----*
I was currently lying on his bed just staring blankly up at the ceiling while Brendon was softly strumming his guitar while he sat on the floor next to the bed.
“You know, if you keep doing that, I’m going to fall asleep pretty soon,” I yawned. He chuckled softly but kept strumming.
“Sorry. It’s a force of habit. I always have to do something with my hands when I’m thinking,” Brendon explained.
“Yeah, I can see that,” I yawned again. “What are you playing? I’ve never heard it before.”
“Just some notes I was messing around with.”
“It’s pretty,” I said softly. “You should write them down. Make a lullaby or something.”
“A lullaby?” He chuckled but then he stopped. “Yeah, maybe I should. How’s about I turn this into a lullaby for you?”
“You’re going to write a song for me?” I smiled and I could feel my eyes droop. He stopped playing. My eyes opened and I saw him smiling gently at me.
“Yeah, I guess I am.”
“That’s sweet,” I said around another yawn. “You’re sweet.”
“You should go to sleep, Izzy.” He suggested. “I’ll wake you up in a little while.”
“M’kay.” I closed my eyes and let the blackness surround me.
*----Brendon----*
I ran my finger softly against her cheek before shutting off the lights and taking my guitar downstairs. I began playing the lullaby.
I thought about the lyrics and I smiled as I wrote them down. Sure it was only a few sentences and most of it repeated but that’s what lullaby’s do, right? They’re short, sweet and they put you to sleep.
“So where’s the girl that borrowed my bathing suit?” Kara asked.
“She’s asleep,” I said. “I put your bathing suit in the wash.”
“You actually let her in your room? You don’t let anyone in there. Except Ryan,” Kara said amazed. Then she smiled. “Are you guys…”
“No!”
“Jeez, no need for yelling,” She chuckled and gave me a knowing look. “You can tell me, Brenny bear. It’s your big sister, you can trust me.”
I groaned. “When do you go back to college? I don’t think I can take another day with you and Mase home.”
“Where is Mase?”
“I don’t know. Probably crashed in his room,” I shrugged.
“Not anymore,” A voice drifted down the stairs. Mase came out in only his boxers rubbing his eyes. He sat down next to me and ruffled my hair. I leaned away from him and shot him a look. “Hey there, Brenny bear.”
“I wish you guys would stop calling me that,” I glared at them. They just laughed.
“So, what’s this I hear about a chick?”
“Nothing. Just Kara assuming things again,” I sat back down on the couch.
“I’m not assuming,” Kara told Mase. “Guess where she is right now.”
“At home,” He guessed.
“No, dummy. She’s still here and she’s in his room,” She emphasized room. His eyes widened and he came over to me to clap me hard on the back.
“Dude! You’re not a virgin anymore!” He cheered. I could feel my face flame up and I narrowed my eyes at Kara.
“Not like that you idiot!” She hissed. “She’s asleep.”
“Oh, dude,” He gave me a pitiful look. “Did you bore her to death?”
I punched his arm. “No. She was just tired from swimming and I was playing my guitar so she sort of fell asleep to it.”
“So you serenaded her to sleep? Sweet,” He approved. “Girls love that romantic crap.”
“It’s not crap,” Kara slapped the back of his head and he winced.
“You always have to hit me!” He accused and pointed a finger at her. She shoved his arm away. “Don’t shove me!” He shoved her a little.
“Don’t shove me,” They began shoving each other and I slapped my forehead.
“You guys are so immature,” But I had to laugh at the sight of them on the floor wrestling each other. “And it’s not like that. We’re friends.”
“Looks like more to me,” Kara said while Mase helped her up.
“We’re close.” I shrugged.
“Yeah, I can see that,” She teased.
“Bro, she’s asleep. In your room. That doesn’t seem like just friendship to me,” Mase commented.
“Yeah well it is,” I couldn’t even keep the disappointment out of my voice. Truth was, I liked Izzy. A lot. More than a best friend should. I wanted to tell her but I didn’t want to risk our friendship. It wasn’t worth it. I needed her too much to mess it up and not have her in my life. Having her in my life meant everything to me. Even if it meant staying in the friend zone.
“You like her,” They said together and I frowned.
How did they do that?
“Because it’s written all over your face,” Mase laughed.
“You suck at lying, Brenny bear,” Kara chuckled as well. “I think you should tell her.”
“I can’t.”
“Why not,” She asked.
“Because I don’t want to screw up our friendship.”
“Yeah, but you’re stuck in the friend zone, dude,” Mase said it like it was the worst thing imaginable. And it was. “Once you’re in the friend zone, you stay in the friend zone.”
“Mase that’s not even remotely true,” Kara rolled her eyes at him. “Well if you don’t want to tell her then what are you going to do?”
“Stay friends,” I said firmly.
“That sucks!” Mase chortled from the kitchen. I could hear him rummaging around in the refrigerator.
“Maybe you should give a shot,” Kara suggested.
“I’ll think about it,” I told her but in reality I just really wanted to end this conversation. I glanced at the clock. An hour passed since Izzy fell asleep. “I’m gonna go wake her up.”
“You do that bro,” Mase called again. “Awake thy sleeping beauty with thou’s true love kiss…” He said in an accent.
Smack!
“Ow, Kara!”
I shook my head and ran back upstairs to my room. I opened the door and approached her but kept the lights off. I didn’t want to blind her. I bent down and placed my hand on her arm. “Izzy.”
She grumbled softly and I smiled. “Izzy, time to wake up.”
“5 more minutes, mom,” Her voice was thick with sleep.
“I’m not you’re mom, Iz.”
Her eyes shot open and she looked at me with big eyes.
“You’re adorable when you wake up,” I told her and she blushed. “You’re also adorable when you blush.”
I ran the back of my hand against her cheek and she grinned at me. “How long was I asleep?”
I helped her sit up. “Just an hour. It’s almost 9. I didn’t know if you wanted me to take you home now.”
“I’m too lazy to move,” She said quietly and slumped back down onto my bed. I laughed as her hair covered her face. I gently brushed them out of her way.
“Did you want to stay here?” I asked. “I can ask my mom.”
“I really want to...” I was sensing a ‘but’. “but, I can’t. My mom is expecting me home.”
“Did you want me to take you home now?”
“No,” She smiled. “She’s probably still at her party. Why don’t we hang out a little more?”
“And do what?”
“Hmm… I don’t know…” Her voice trailed off and she smiled slyly.
“Izzy? What are you thinking?”
Suddenly I felt her grab my shoulder and pin my down to the bed. Then she began to tickle me in all of my tickle spots. I couldn’t help the roaring laughter that escaped me as well as the tears. She giggled along with me and said, “This is pay back for the pool.”
“Izzy I can’t breathe!”
“Oh I’m sorry what was that?” She cupped a hand around her ear.
“Izzy get off!” I groaned through my laughter and tried to get out from under her. She was unmovable. She had straddled my hips and pinned my arms above my head. “How are you so strong?”
“I, I, I work out.” She sang and that’s when the laughter came out full force.
“Did you seriously just sing, I’m Sexy and I Know It?” I gasped. “Oh god, my stomach hurts.”
Izzy collapsed on me from the force of her laughter and I felt something wet drip on my cheek. I looked up at her and saw her eyes streaming with tears from her laughter. She finally let go of my hands and I snaked my arms around her waist before pinning her below me.
“Gotcha,” I smirked at her and her laughter stopped.
“Hmm, I don’t really trust you in this position buddy,” She raised an eyebrow.
“Oh really?”
“Mmhmm,” She nodded.
“And what do you think I’m going to do?” I asked her and leaned in so our faces were only centimeters apart. Her breath stopped and her eyes widened.
“I… Um…”
“I knew it!” A voice exclaimed from the doorway and the lights turned on. Both of our heads snapped up and I stared shocked at the faces of Ryan, Bree, Landon, Rain, Jon, Spencer, Kara and Mase.
“Hey guys!” I laughed nervously and Izzy tapped my thigh with her hand. I realized I was still on top of her. “Sorry.”
I got off and I could see her flushed face.
“You guys are together!” Rain exclaimed.
“No, we’re not,” Izzy protested but it even sounded weak to me and I knew it was true.
“Then would you like to explain why you guys were nearly…” Ryan started but Landon cut him off.
“Nearly making out?” He questioned.
“We weren’t. We were just playing around,” I tried to tell them.
“Yeah, what Brendon said,” Izzy second me.
“That’s not what it looked like,” Rain chuckled.
“Yeah, looked pretty intense to me,” Jon said with a goofy smile and Spencer wacked him.
“If you guys are together, why don’t you just tell us? We’re you’re friends.” Spencer said.
“But we’re not together!” Izzy yelled exasperated.
“What are you guys even doing here,” I asked them.
“Well Rain, Landon and I went to Izzy’s house to basically ask her what was up with you two but when she wasn’t home…” Bree trailed off.
“We figured she was here with you,” Rain finished.
“Looks like we were right about that,” Landon chuckled.
“What about you three?” I asked Ryan, Spencer and Jon.
“I left my lucky guitar pick here,” Spencer shrugged and stepping in the room to grab it off of my desk.
“I saw all of them on your porch so I figured something was going on and I went to go check it out,” Ryan explained.
We all looked at Jon. He stared at us blankly, “What?”
That broke the ice and we all shared amused glances and a laughed a little.
“Oh, Jon…” Izzy smiled at him. “You always know how to cheer people up.”
“Thanks.” He smiled brightly at her. Then he frowned. “What’d I do?”
I guffawed loudly and shook my head, “Just forget it Jon.”
“So seriously, nothing is going on with you two?” Ryan asked.
“Absolutely…” Izzy started.
“Nothing,” I finished.
“You guys are even finishing each other’s sentences! How is that not something,” Bree narrowed her eyes at us.
“Sweetie,” Ryan said gently to Bree. “Just let it go.”
Bree huffed but caved.
“I think I could use that drive home now,” Izzy told me.
“Alright, let’s go,”

Into a place where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it’s nine in the afternoon
And we know that it could be
And we know that it should
And you know that you feel it too
‘Cause it’s nine in the afternoon
And you’re eyes are the size of the moon
You could, ‘cause you can, so you do
We’re feeling so good, just the way that we do

Beginning are always so rough for me to right. Most of my stories start off shaky but as soon as I get into the hang of things and start getting the feel of where I want my story to go, it gets good :) At least, I'd like to think so. I just finished writing the 10th chapter to I'll Believe In You and I can guarantee you that if you stick it out with me and continue reading my story... You'll be glad that you did.
