Part 6 - The Truth Revealed

Hoya lifted her up and they carried her to the infirmary. “Hyung!” they called out as they entered the room.

Dongyup looked up from the paper he was reading and saw them carrying Seohee. “Put her on the bed over there.”

Hoya laid her down gently and they all turned to the nurse. “Is she okay?” Sungjong nervously asked.

Dongyup looked at the group and asked “What happened?”

“We were on our way to gym class when she took off” Woohyun offered. “We caught up with her as she was leaving the bathroom. We asked if she was alright, but she said no and passed out.”

“Is she going to be alright?” Sungyeol asked.

Dongyup didn’t know what to tell them. They were obviously concerned about her, but she had made him promise not to say anything about her condition. “She probably just needs to rest” Dongyup smiled.

“Can we stay with her?” Sungjong asked.

“You should probably go back to class for now. You can come back later to check on her” Dongyup said. The group all nodded and reluctantly shuffled out of the room. Dongyup turned to the unconscious girl and said “Now, what am I going to do with you?”

When Seohee opened her eyes she was greeted by seven very concerned pairs of eyes. “Hyung! She’s awake!” Dongwoo called out and Dongyup came over to check on her.

“Could you guys please wait outside” Dongyup asked. The guys all nodded and slowly filed out of the room. Dongyup then turned his attention to Seohee. “What happened?”

“I had another spell” she admitted.

“They are getting worse” Dongyup sighed. He looked at the door to the infirmary and said “You should really tell them.”

Seohee looked at her uncle and said “I suppose you’re right.”

Dongyup smiled and patted her on the back. “I’ll let them back in.”

“Okay” she said as she sat up.

“Seohee!” Sungjong shouted as he ran over to the bed and hugged her.

Sungyeol and Myungsoo walked over and pulled him off her and sat on the bed next to hers. “How are you feeling?” Sunggyu asked.

                “I’m okay” she replied.

“You really had us worried” Woohyun added. “What happened?”

“I think you should all sit down first” she said and they did. “You know how you guys are always wondering why I don’t participate in gym?”

“Yeah” Hoya said and they all nodded.

“The reason I can’t is because I’m sick.”

“What do you mean by sick?” Hoya asked.

Seohee sighed “I really don’t know how to tell you guys this, so I’m just going to say it.” She took a calming breath before saying “I have cancer.”

                “Cancer?” Myungsoo asked.

                “Yes” she replied.

Hoya wasn’t sure if it was appropriate, but he had to ask “How long have you known about it?”

Seohee looked at him and said “Since before I transferred.”

The guys were all shocked. “Why didn’t you tell us before?” Sunggyu asked.

“I didn’t know how to tell you guys and I was afraid.”

                “Of what?” Myungsoo asked.

“That you guys might not like me anymore.”

Suddenly, Dongwoo came to a realization before the others and asked “Then why are you telling us now?”

Seohee looked down at her hands nervously. “Because…” The atmosphere in the room became very tense. “The doctor said that my cancer is progressing.”

“What does that mean?” Sungyeol asked.

“It means her cancer has gotten worse.” Myungsoo said. Then he asked “How long did they say you have?”

                “A few months.”

“What?” They all screamed. “You’ve got to be kidding!”

She sighed “If we could find a donor, the doctor said that there is a chance of curing it, but we haven’t had any luck.”

“What kind of donor are you looking for?” Sunggyu asked.

“We need a bone marrow donor” she replied.

“What if we all got tested?” Myungsoo asked.

“You could try, but it is very difficult to find matching non-family member donors.”

“Still, it’s worth a shot” Sunggyu said. “Who knows, one of us just might be a match” he smiled and the guys all nodded.

Seohee started to cry “Thank you guys.”

The next day, they all skipped school and went to the hospital. “Hi Seohee” Dr. Park greeted her. “Who are these young men?”

“They are my friends” she smiled. “They said they wanted to get tested to see if they could be a donor for me.”

Dr. Park smiled “You have some really good friends. Come with me.” He led them down to the lab and said “We will need a vile of blood from each of you and it will take approximately three days before we will know whether or not you are a match.” The guys all nodded and rolled up their sleeves.

Three days later, the results were placed on Dr. Park’s desk. He quickly scanned through the paperwork and smiled sadly as a tear trickled down his cheek. He stood up and put on his jacket before leaving the office. He walked downstairs and proceeded to the funeral hall.

He walked into one of the rooms that was occupied by mourners and deposited an envelope. Then he took a flower from the basket and approached the mantle that held the picture of a beautiful young girl. He placed the flower on the mantle and bowed to pay his respects. Then he turned to the family and bowed once more.

“Thank you for coming Dr. Park” Dongyup smiled sadly.

Tears began to fall from the doctor’s eyes as he looked at the group of young men standing beside Dongyup. He walked over to them and said “My only wish is that Seohee could have met you all sooner.”

Confused by what the doctor had said, Dongyup turned to him and asked “What do you mean?”

Dr. Park pulled out an envelope and said “I just received your test results.” He stifled back his tears as he handed it to them. “It appears that you all were a match.” Then he bowed one last time before leaving the room.

After hearing what Dr. Park had said, Dongyup collapsed to the floor in shock. Sunggyu grabbed the envelope from his hands and quickly opened it. As he read over the results for himself, tears began to fall from his eyes. One by one, each of the members looked over the results and collapsed to the floor with tears in their eyes.
