Part 5 - Things Get Worse
Days turned to weeks and soon six months had passed. The members of Infinite and Seohee had become close friends. Whenever they had the chance, they would invite her over to have dinner or to study.
Seohee was finally enjoying the life of a normal teenager, but she was anything but normal. She started to feel nauseous more often and her fainting spells were happening more frequently.
“Seohee” Dr. Park smiled “You’re not due to see me for another two weeks. What brings you here?”
“You told me to come back sooner if the spells started to happen more frequently” she replied. “I’ve been feeling nauseous just about every night and I’m finding it difficult to keep anything down.”
“Have you been passing out as well?”
“Yes, I have.”
Dr. Park looked over her chart and said “Based on what you have said……. It appears that it has spread.”
“How far?”
“I can’t say for certain without running tests, but if you are experiencing nausea every night, then I’d say that it has progressed to at least Stage II; possibly Stage III.”
Dongyup was shocked “How could it have progressed so fast?”
“I’m not sure” Dr. Park responded. “There is still much we don’t know about this type of cancer. We are still looking for a donor, but it is very difficult to find matching non-family member donors.”
“Still” Dongyup was agitated.
“Samchon” Seohee spoke up. “We knew that it was only going to be a matter of time. That is why you agreed to let me leave the hospital and attend school.”
“Seohee…”
She turned to the doctor and asked “How long do you think I have left?”
“Considering it has progressed this far already” he looked over his notes again “I’d say a few months at most.”
“What?” Dongyup screamed.
“Thank you Doctor” Seohee said as she fought hard to suppress her tears.
They left the office and Dongyup turned to Seohee. “Let’s get a second opinion.”
“Samchon…”
“No! I’m not going to accept that you only have a few months. I already lost your mother and father. I’m not going to burry you too!”
“You heard what Dr. Park said before” Seohee remained calm and rational. “Without a bone marrow donor, it would be impossible. Unfortunately, you’re not a match and it’s almost impossible to find a non-family member that is a match.”
“Still…”
“Don’t worry Samchon, I’m not going to give up hope” she smiled. “They could still find a donor.”
“True” Dongyup agreed.
“Samchon.”
“Yes, Seohee.”
“Promise me you won’t tell anyone about this.”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t want my friends to know about this just yet. Promise me you won’t tell them.”
Dongyup looked at her pleading eyes and said “I promise.”
The next day was like any other. Seohee went to school and was immediately greeted by seven handsome men. “Seohee!” Sungjong called out as he ran over to her.
“Morning guys!” she happily greeted them.
“You look tired” Sunggyu said “I told you if you had problems studying to call me.”
Seohee nervously laughed and said “I stayed up late to watch a movie.”
“You should have invited us” Woohyun said as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
Gently removing his arm, she chuckled as she said “If I’d have done that, I’d never have gotten you to leave after.”
The guys all laughed and then strolled off to their class rooms. Classes seemed to fly by fast and lunch came quickly. “Oppa!” the girls screamed as they ran over to the members of Infinite. “This is for you!” they all blushed as they handed over the lunches they had prepared for the guys. The guys all smiled and graciously accepted them.
“You guys are all really popular” Seohee giggled.
“Not as popular as you though” Myungsoo said pointing towards the group of guys that were standing in the front of the room staring at them.
Seohee playfully hit his arm and said “That’s not funny.”
“He’s not joking” Sungyeol said. “The guys in my class are always asking about you too.”
Seohee was shocked “Seriously?”
“Yeah!” Sungjong perked up. “They bug us all the time.”
“What’s really annoying is when they ask for your number” Dongwoo commented and they all nodded in agreement.
Seohee just sat in shock. “Don’t worry” Sungjong smiled “we’d never give it to them.”
“Enough about that” Sunggyu waved off the conversation. “Seohee, what are you going to do during gym today?”
“I hadn’t thought about it yet” she replied.
“I still don’t understand why you don’t participate” Hoya grumbled.
“Yeah” Woohyun perked up “Why don’t you ever participate in gym?”
Seohee became very nervous. “I ……. can’t.”
The guys were surprised. “Why not?” Sunggyu asked.
She took a deep breath and said “It’s not something I like talking about.”
“That’s okay” Hoya said “We shouldn’t have pried.”
“Thank you” she half smiled.
Lunch ended and the guys quickly changed for gym class and ran out to meet Seohee in the hall. “You ready?” Woohyun asked as he placed his arm around her shoulder.
“Yeah” she smiled “but can you stop doing that already?” she gently removed his arm.
“What?” Woohyun asked as he put his arm back around her.
“Nothing” she laughed.
They started walking down the hall together laughing and joking until Seohee started feeling nauseous. She ran away from the group as they shouted after her. She ran into the bathroom and threw up in the toilet. She sighed as she stood in front of the mirror. “I hope this isn’t going to keep happening” she mumbled to herself. She splashed a little water on her face and then went to find the guys.
“Seohee!” the guys perked up when they saw her coming out of the bathroom. “Are you okay?
She was about to say she was fine, when her vision became blurry. “I don’t… think… so” she managed to say as she passed out; falling into the groups’ arms.
