Part 4 - At The Hospital

Seohee ran as fast as she could to catch the bus. “Thank God I made it” she huffed as she took a seat on the bus. “Hope I’m not late.” She said as the bus came to a stop in front of the hospital. She got off the bus, walked into the Hospital lobby and approached the registration desk.

“Can I help you Miss?” the receptionist greeted her.

“Yes I have an appointment with Dr. Park Sungmin” Seohee replied.

“Of course” the receptionist said as she pulled up the schedule on her computer. “Your name?”

                “Choi Seohee.”

The receptionist printed out a paper and asked “Do you know where his office is?”

                “Yes” Seohee replied bubbly.

As Seohee walked away, the receptionist sighed “She is too young.”

“Who is?” the receptionist next to her asked.

                “The patient I just registered.”

                “Too young for what?”

“To be seeing Dr. Park Sungmin.”

The second receptionist’s face suddenly became grave “Oh.”

Seohee walked to the office and took a seat. “Oh Seohee” the doctor smiled when he saw her.

“Hi Dr. Park” she smiled back.

“Come on in and have a seat” he gestured her into the room. He took a seat behind his desk and asked “How have you been?”

Seohee smiled and said “I’ve been good. Only, I had an episode yesterday, but other than that I’ve been good.”

                “How bad of an episode?”

“I didn’t feel good and ended up vomiting. Then, as I was on my way to the infirmary to see my Samchon, I passed out in the hallway.”

Dr. Park took a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh. “How often have you passed out?”

                “Just this once” she replied.

“Okay” he said, taking down some notes. “Everything seems to be okay for now” he said as he reviewed her chart. “If you start passing out more frequently, we may need to adjust your medications.”

                “Okay” she said.

“Good, then we will be seeing you in one month unless you have any problems” he smiled as he stood up.

“Okay” she smiled back as she also stood. They shook hands and she left the office. As she made her way to the lobby, she breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank God that is over.” Then her phone rang “Hello?”

“Seohee, how did your appointment go?” her uncle asked.

“He said everything was fine, but if I start passing out more then we need to see him sooner.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t come with you today.”

“It’s okay! I know how busy you are” she smiled.

“I’ll see you at school tomorrow.”

“Bye” she said merrily and hung up the phone.

“Seohee?” a voice came from behind her as she was about to leave the hospital.

She turned around and was surprised to see “Sunggyu? What are you doing here?” she looked around for the other guys that he always hung out with.

“Oh” he nervously giggled. “My throat has been bothering me, so I thought I’d get it checked out. What about you? Why are you here?”

Seohee became very nervous. “I came because I haven’t been sleeping well” she lied.

Sunggyu nodded “Oh.” Then he smiled and said “Seeing as we are both here, you want to hang out?”

She was surprised by his suggestion, but figured it wouldn’t hurt to hang out with him so she said “Okay, what do you want to do?”

Sunggyu walked over to her and grabbed her by the hand. “Follow me” he smiled as he dragged her from the hospital. They walked for a few blocks, until they came to a familiar restaurant. “Let’s eat here.”

Seohee was going to protest, but Sunggyu had already dragged her inside. “Welcome!” the owner greeted them. “Come have a seat!”

Sunggyu and Seohee took their seats and the owner brought over a pot of tea. “What can I get you?”

“We’ll have two bowls of Naengmyeon” Sunggyu smiled.

“Okay!” she said as she walked away.

“Where are the other guys?” Seohee asked nervously.

“Oh” Sunggyu chuckled. “They are probably back at the dorm by now.”

                “They didn’t come with you?”

Sunggyu shook his head. “They’d rather go to a karaoke box then come to the hospital with me.”

                “I see.”

                “What about you?”

                “Huh?”

“How come you haven’t been sleeping well? Are you okay?”

Seohee froze for a second, but quickly managed to come up with a lie. “I’m still trying to catch up on my schoolwork seeing as I just transferred.”

“Studying is important, but you should still get enough rest too” Sunggyu said with genuine concern for her. “If you need help studying, I could help you. I am ranked pretty high in the class ranking.”

Seohee giggled. “Thank you! That’s very kind of you to offer. I may just take you up on it” she smiled.

“Give me your phone” he said holding out his hand.

                “Why?”

                “Just give it” he pressed.

She pulled out her phone and reluctantly handed it over to him “Okay.”

Sunggyu quickly put his number into the phone and handed it back to her. “If you have any problems, just call me” he smiled.

Seohee smiled and said “You should be careful.”

                “Why?”

“You might just get sick of me calling” she laughed.

“Just try me” he laughed as well.

“Seohee?” a familiar voice called out to her.

Seohee looked up and saw “Dongho Oppa?”

The guy walked over to the table and looked at Seohee “What are you doing here?”

“Just grabbing a bite to eat” she smiled.

“Dongho! Stop bothering the customers!” the owner called out to him.

“But Mom! It’s Seohee! You remember Choi Seohee?” he called back to her.

She came out of the kitchen and looked at Seohee. Suddenly, she raised her hands up to cover her mouth. “Seohee!”

“Hello Mrs. Shin” Seohee bowed her head.

“OMO, why didn’t you say anything?” Mrs. Shin scolded her.

“I wasn’t sure if you’d remember me” Seohee nervously lied.

“Are you kidding? Your parents would bring you here so often, that Dongho thought you were really his younger sister” she laughed. Then her mood turned somber “It really is a tragedy what happened. How have you been?”

“I’m fine” Seohee smiled. “My Samchon has been helping me out.”

“Dongyup was always fond of his sister. I’m glad he is helping you out.” Then Mrs. Shin shook her head and said “You two enjoy your meal.” Then she grabbed Dongho’s arm and dragged him away.

When they disappeared from sight, Sunggyu turned to Seohee and asked “What was that about?”

“My parents used to bring me here all the time” she smiled sadly. “That was before they died.”

                “Oh, I didn’t realize….”

Seohee shook her head. “It’s okay. You didn’t know.”

                “But still….”

“Let’s just enjoy the food” Seohee smiled happily. “They really do have the best Naengmyeon!”

They finished their food and thanked the Shins before leaving. “Don’t be a stranger! You know you are always welcome here” Mrs. Shin pouted.

“Don’t worry” Seohee smiled “I’ll be back.”

They waved goodbye and started walking towards the bus stop. “Sunggyu!” a voice called from behind them.

“Oh, hey Hyung” Sunggyu smiled. “What are you doing here?”

“Looking for you” the guy said as he slapped him on the back of his head.

                “Sorry Hyung, I was hungry.”

“We have to go” he said “The President wants to see you all in the office right now.”

                “Why?”

“Don’t know, but we have to go now” the guy urged.

“I’m sorry Seohee, but I have to go.”

“Don’t worry about it” she smiled “I’ll see you at school.”

“Bye” Sunggyu waved as he ran off.

The next day at school, Seohee arrived and was greeted by Sunggyu at the gate. “Good morning Sunggyu” she smiled.

“Morning” he smiled back. “I didn’t get a call” he joked and Seohee giggled.

“Sunggyu, why did you leave without us?” Myungsoo asked as he approached the gate. When he saw that Seohee was with him, he froze in his tracks.

“Good morning Myungsoo” she smiled at him.

“Morning” Woohyun replied as he skipped over to her and placed an arm around her shoulder. “What are you guys talking about?”

“Nothing important” Sunggyu said as he turned and walked towards the school.

“What’s wrong with him?” Woohyun asked the other guys while pointing towards Sunggyu.

They all shrugged their shoulders and followed after Sunggyu. Myungsoo shrugged his shoulders too, but he saw the blush that had crept up on Sunggyu’s face before he had turned away. Does Sunggyu like her too?
