Chapter 27 - Dig throws some perfectly good fries
A/n: that awkward moment when you start writing the edit of an episode you forget you haven't gotten there yet XD thank you guys for sticking around with me through the chaos of senior year. <3
also sorry if the end seems a little thrown together, really wanted to finish this tonight
"You know, it's kinda comforting to know that no matter what city you go to, Big Belly Burger is always going to taste like Big Belly Burger," Felicity murmurs and Dig raises an eyebrow at her.
"You mean full of grease and salt?"
She looks up confused, "I thought those were the secret ingredients."
"Oliver's back," Barry says, suddenly appearing in front of the two. "By the way, we gave Oliver, like, 1/2 hour head start."
"Hi, Barry," Felicity says, not at all surprised by his sudden appearance.
"Hey, Felicity," He responds, before glancing over at the gentleman next to her. "How you doing, Dig?"
"You're fast," He says, and Barry has to stifle a laugh.
"Oh," Barry chuckles, spotting me coming not a moment later than we planned. "I'm not the only one who's gotten quicker."
I skid to a stop right in front of them, sending a glorious cloud of dust in the direction I was running in, before moving my mask to my forehead and sending a beaming smile to the trio.
"Hey, guys," I say, reveling in their awestruck expressions as I walk towards them.
"Guys?"
"I..I..you.....I thought you just ejected electricity?!" Felicity says, stumbling over her words.
"She does what?" Diggle says looking in between Felicity and me, even more, confused than before.
"Your word choice never fails to impress me Felicity."
"You know I can't help it!"
Barry quickly slides out his phone to take a picture of Felicity and Dig's expressions before glancing over at me.
"Did you not tell them?" Barry asks me.
I shrug. "Last week was a little rough, so it never came up."
Barry nods, trying his best to avoid Felicity's angry gaze.
"And plus," I add, "Some things just need to be seen in person," I finish glancing over at Dig.
We chuckle and Barry keeps her somewhat angry gaze fixed on Barry as an engine revvs behind us. I turn around and spot a very familiar archer with his mask off and hood down.
"Hey, Ollie." I greet, and he sends a small smile to me.
"Good to see you, Rani."
"Hey thanks for showing up back there," Barry says. "But I think we had that."
"Uh-huh," Oliver says in a disbelieving tone. "Rani had things under control, you, on the other hand, ran in blind."
"Awh you noticed," I tease and Felicity lets out a giggle.
"I was getting ready to make my move," Barry defends.
"What move?" Oliver questions. "The one to the morgue?"
"Wait, what are you guys doing in Central City?" I ask, the thought suddenly coming to me. "Because as generous as you are Ollie, I have a feeling that you didn't just drive six hundred miles to help us with a SWAT raid."
"We're here working a case."
"Suspicious homicide in the styling where the murder weapon is a boomerang," Felicity adds, pulling out a sliver boomerang from an evidence bag.
"Coooool," Barry remarks without thinking before realizing my pointed look. "I mean, awful."
"I found traces of iron oxide on it," Felicity explains. "I know it's a long shot, but Central City has the highest concentration of iron oxide in the country."
"Did you know Australian aboriginals use boomerangs to hunt?" Barry mentions, handing the boomerang back to Felicity. "Mainly on kangaroo, which is a surprisingly low-fat source of prot-"
Oliver clears his throat and Barry stops abruptly mid-sentence, glancing between the two of us.
"Oh sorry," He mumbles and I send him a smile.
"It's okay."
"Uhh, we were following up a lead when we heard the S.W.A.T. raid over the radio," Oliver explains. "I thought that I would come by...watch you....well, watch the two of you make your move."
"I had a cousin got hit by lightning once," Dig states. "He just developed a stutter."
"Huh," Felicity says and I try my hardest to hold in my laughter.
"Well, my team and I are after a nasty meta-human who makes people angry," Barry says.
"No idea how he does it yet," I add. "But he caused a bank full of people to go absolutely crazy for a couple seconds."
"Coooooool," Felicity says, with the same excited tone as Barry before meeting Oliver's gaze. "I mean, awful."
"Uh, well, since you guys are here, why don't we team up?" Barry suggests. "We can help you find your boomerang man, you can help us find our super rage-a-holic."
"See that right there is why Cisco does the naming," I say quietly and Barry playfully shoves me.
"We'd love to!" Felicity answers and Oliver glances over to her, almost a little panicked before speaking up.
"No, we'll handle our business and head home."
"You know the fastest way to find out everything we need to know about the boomerang is to stick S.T.A.R. Labs and Rani on it," Felicity argues.
"Enough people know my secret identity," Oliver tries and Felicity shrugs.
"Fine... I'll go," She says. "They already know who I am. You can drop me off, and I will meet up with you later."
"How about we give you a lift?" Barry asks before picking Felicity up and speeding away, probably off to S.T.A.R. Labs, leaving a stunned Oliver and Diggle in his wake.
"So that happened," I say, more to myself than anyone else.
"Man, that's not freaking you out?!" Dig says, sounding genuinely frustrated at Barry's quick disappearance.
I glance over to see Oliver's reaction but instead find him lost in thought.
"He needs guidance, Ollie," I say, Oliver, snapping out of his daze.
"What about you?"
"I'm his partner," I sigh. "There's only so much I can do, especially since I relapsed when I got my powers."
"Why didn't you say anything?"
"Didn't think of it at the time, but being alone got my head out of the clouds if you know what I mean."
"I just might. Barry didn't help you through any of this?"
"He tried, I pushed him away and he got upset."
"He did what?!" Dig exclaims and I chuckle.
"It's fine Dig, chill," I say, putting a hand out to him. "Honestly I can't blame him."
"You both looked fine tonight."
"I don't know, possibly had to do with being back out in the field," I remark, thinking back to when it seemed that he forgave me before turning to Oliver. "But what I do know is that Barry needs you so he doesn't have to learn from the same mistakes that we made."
"You want me to teach him?"
"More like train him the way."
"Throw in a sparring session with you and I'll think about it."
A smile grows on my face. "That excited to get beat up by a speedster?"
"More excited to beat up a speedster."
"You know I'm not as sloppy as I used to be."
"With the footwork, I saw tonight, I highly doubt it."
"Rude."
》》》》》》》》》》》》》》》》》》》》》
"We don't trust him."
"We don't trust who?" I say, poking my head into the treadmill room spotting Joe, Barry and Dr. Wells in a tense conversation that I almost want to walk far away from.
"Miss Raymond."
"Hello." I greet, glancing around the room. "Caitlin told me you guys were looking for me. What's this about?"
"They don't trust the Arrow," Barry answers before glancing back at Joe and Dr. Wells. "You guys don't even know him!"
"I know that he was wanted for murder in at least 12 different cases dating back three years. I know there's been at least two major terrorist attacks in Starling since he became active." Dr. Wells says before glancing over at me. "Correct me if I'm wrong Rani, you were there beside him after all."
I grind my teeth at his shot at me but say nothing, knowing full well that anything that comes out of my mouth right now isn't going to be civil.
"All right," Barry says, picking up on my frustration. "But the cops there are cool with him now. He doesn't kill people anymore." "
"And what about all the criminals that he put arrows through?" Joe counters. "Those, what, don't count?"
"He's a hero, Joe."
"You're a hero, Barry. You offer protection, hope, light. What that man does is carry out a dark reckoning for his city. It is a brutal, violent vision of justice, one we do not share. You truly think he's a hero, fine, so be it. But he's not the kind you should be looking up to.
Joe sighs rubbing his face with his hands before looking over at me, "Rani, what do you think?"
"Just so you know, the Arrow isn't someone I look up to," I say, catching Joe and Dr. Wells's attention. Barry looks over at me confused but I keep my eye contact level with Wells.
"Go on," Dr. Wells urges.
"I don't look up to him because of how well I know him, he's my friend and the thing about friends is that you bring each other up, not leave someone behind for them to look up to you. I don't look up to him because he treats me as an equal, not something lesser than him. And when Barry was around, I have a feeling he was the same." I say, glancing over at him.
Barry's confused look grows into a smile and he nods, gesturing for me to continue.
"You might think that he's the reason for the problems Starling City has, and that's okay, every person is entitled to their own opinions. But in all honesty, I'd hate to think of how that city would have survived without him. Those terrorist attacks you may characterize with his appearance would have happened with or without his involvement.
Barry and I....our faith in him isn't as misguided as you'd think. I've trusted him with my life before and would gladly do it again in a heartbeat."
"Ms. Raymond you speak of him so highly, but might I ask how can I trust someone behind a mask I don't know?"
"I honestly don't know how you would Dr. Wells," I scoff back. "You don't even trust someone behind a mask that you do know."
Wells narrows his eyes at me and is about to say something back before a high pitched scream stops us all in out tracks.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
Joe, Barry and I sprint to Cortex, ready to fight before we skid to a stop, an eyebrow raised at the scene in front of me.
The silver boomerang I saw moments earlier in Cisco's hands was now flying around the room, taking out almost everything in sight, before imbedding itself into a nearby pole.
"That's my bad!" Cisco says putting his hands up in defense. "That's...that's one me."
"Damn right it is," I say with a little smirk and Cisco's eyes narrow at me.
The glass window behind us falls to the ground, startling Joe before he looks over at us. "I want that Arrow out of my city, tonight."
Well......great.
