Chapter 26 - My Badass Ex-Coworker
I only have one word to explain my hiatus: .......finals
enjoy! ;)
"Anger, hate, aggression," Dr. Wells says, scrolling through the data I brought to STAR Labs.
"A Jedi craves not these things," Cisco says almost giggling before his smile slightly fades away when no one laughs. "What? No one is feeling that quote?"
"Maybe not the right time Cisco," I say a little reassuringly.
Barry sighs, rubbing the back of his neck. "Everyone in the bank went total savage for, like, five minutes. And then they were fine again."
"I pulled background checks on all of the people who were in the bank when I was at CCPD," I add. "Other than the guy with more speeding tickets than I dared to look into, they were all just regular, law-abiding people with no criminal background or history. Something made them act this way."
"Anger can be a powerful emotion. If this meta-human can engender irrational feelings of anger in his victims, he can do a lot of damage," Dr. Wells responds.
"Rani and Detective West also helped get a copy of the cat scans the hospital did on everyone at the bank," Caitlin says. "Take a look."
"Well, look at this, the emotion centers of the brains are still showing signs of being overwhelmed. Particularly the area that controls executive function. That's the part of the brain that stops people from doing whatever random and potentially destructive thing that pops into their head."
"How do you think the meta does it to them?" Barry asks.
"That's the 1/2 million dollar question," Dr. Wells says as a slight buzz distracts Barry.
"Hey, if you guys figure it out, just give me a call, okay?"
"Is The Flash off to another rooftop rendezvous with Iris?" Caitlin probes and I avert my gaze away from the conversation to my keyboard.
"No," Barry says, before realizing Caitlin's unbelieving expression. "Yeah, but she probably just wants to ask me... I mean, you know, him... about meta-human stuff for her blog."
"Do you want some advice?" Caitlin offers.
"No matter what I say, I'm getting the advice, right?" Barry asks, and I stifle a snort from my computer.
"Don't get involved. As The Flash or yourself. You don't want to be the one to blame for their breakup or someone else's heartache." Caitlin responds and I smile to myself.
"Okay. I hear you." Barry says before speeding off.
Caitlin looks in the direction that he ran before plopping down next to me, "I'm sorry Rani."
"Don't worry about it," I respond, furiously typing away. "I appreciate what you did there, but right now we've got bigger problems than Barry being pissed at me. Plus maybe it's for the best."
"How could this possibly be for the best?" Caitlin asks gently. "You two have pretty obvious feelings for each other."
I glance up at her. "Perhaps, but I know that Barry likes Iris and I don't want to be his side girl or something that he gets with until she's free."
"Uh huh, preach," Cisco mumbles and we both turn around to him, eyebrows raised. "What? Don't tell me you've never had that experience?"
"Been there done that," Caitlin adds and I giggle.
"Actually up until this, I never had that problem," I respond.
"Really?" Cisco asks a surprised look on their face.
I shrug with a smirk on my face, "I always taught them a lesson before they got the chance."
"Damn, girl." Cisco remarks. "You were a badass even before Starling City."
I chuckle, "Never change Cisco, never change."
"And scrap the chance of becoming even more awesome? I think not."
"Rani you better take it back."
"Agreed."
"HEY!"

"Finally!" Cisco mumbles.
"What are you talking about Cisco? You're still losing." I respond, spamming my mouse as my attention is still on the video game.
"No not that, you're a spawn killer and this is why I need to stop playing with you. I was talking about the stolen money; the tracker finally came through."
Caitlin and I perk up from out spots as Cisco calls Barry.
"Barry, are you there?" Caitlin asks. "The police got a ping from the tracer hidden in the stolen cash. SWAT team's closing in on the 1600 block of Pass. Now stop ruining Iris' love life and go, Rani's going to meet you there."
I look over at the stand with my suit before back at Caitlin and Cisco who both smile confidently at me and nod.
"Well, I guess that's my cue," I say before racing toward the suit, slipping it on and sprinting out the door in one quick flare.
Hehe, I had to.
I meet Barry inside the warehouse and the two of us carefully creep in. After a minute we link up with Joe and the team sent to take down the meta and stay in the shadows behind them, unseen but ready if we're needed.
"Freeze!" Joe shouts as the SWAT team surrounds the meta. "Hold it right there! Hands up."
"Is there a problem, gentlemen?" The meta asks, standing up slowly from his seat, and I notice sunglasses shielding his face.
"Cetro," Joe says, looking to the SWAT member in the front and the man moves forward.
"Turn around!" Joe says and the meta turns to face the SWAT team, his face blocked by Certo in front of us.
Then Certo doesn't make a move.
"Certo, what are you waiting for?!" Joe asks. "Cuff him!"
Certo turns around an angry look on his face and aims the shotgun he has directly at Joe and his team.
"You don't tell me what to do!" Certo yells and my eyes widen in shock as I see him cock the gun.
Well.......shit.
"Get down!"Joe yells and Barry and I sprint into action as Certo fires.
Barry runs to get the team and Joe out of the line of fire, while I carefully try to scoop up the shotgun pellets, running back and forth so I don't miss a single ball barring before stopping right in front of the man, hand outstretched toward him.
There's the slight thump of something on the roof, and footsteps that sound a little too familiar to be the meta.
But...there's no way he's here.
Right?
"You don't need to do this," I say, stalling to see if my suspicions are correct.
Then a faint 'thwip' sound comes from the corner of the room and I freeze, as two arrows fly right beside me, connecting into Certo in front of me.
Joe, Barry and I whip around to find the one and only Arrow behind us, framed by the window light behind us.
"Nice masks," He says, and I chuckle.
"Nice aim," I say back and his expression goes from smug to surprise as he recognizes the voice. He nods at me before jumping out one of the nearby windows as Joe and Barry glance from the window to me.
"Don't look at me! I didn't call him." I respond.
"So let's find out why he's here," Barry responds, sending an apologetic smile to me. I smirk back at him before saying "Race yah there," and quickly sprint out of the building, Barry on my heels.
Joe, now alone in the warehouse, looks around before his gaze finds Certo, unconscious on the ground with the two arrows still in his vest.
"Damn."He says, picking himself up before calling for medical to his location.
"Never make friends with any speedsters," He mutters. "they're always gonna find an excuse to run somewhere and leave the rest of us with the cardio."
