Chapter 32
Everyone made their way up to the top of the beach where there was a giant hut with all of the food, tables, and staff for the reception. Servers served ribs as the main dish along with some of the most decadent food on earth with everything but asparagus....Jamie knew Dakota hated asparagus and made sure there was none in sight.
The cake sat on a table all its own. It was decorated with pearls outlining the tiers and had red roses on top of each tier. The happy bride and groom piece sat on top where everyone could see.
The friends and family gathered around the buffet tables as the bride and groom posed for pictures for the photographer. They had managed to escape paparazzi but still planned to announce their wedding and give some pictures to certain papers they approved of. Dakota had hoped it would make the cover of the New York Times wedding section even though they were having it in Europe.
Once everyone in the wedding gathered for photos, they too sat down for their meals.
"I can't believe you were able to keep all this secret from me," Dakota whispered to Jamie.
"I'm just glad it worked," he grinned as he took her hand in his and kissed it gently.
Millie heard them. "I'm surprised he pulled it off as well. I was afraid you'd catch on when I left you that day with Dulcie," she added.
Dakota shook her head, "No, this was a total surprise....and the best surprise I could have ever imagined."
Jamie put his hand on his bride's cheek and turned it slightly to kiss her again. "You make my dreams come true and I wanted to yours to come true as well."
Dakota put her head down as she replied, "My dreams came true the day I met you...this wasn't necessary. It's the best day of my life, but you didn't have to do it."
"I know," he replied. "I wanted to."
With that Melanie and Antonio showed up beside them. "My baby," Melanie exclaimed. As Dakota stood up to greet her Melanie pulled her daughter into an embrace. She started crying again. Dakota glanced at Antonio who just smiled and shook her head.
"Mom, it's fine...Why are you crying?"
"I'm just so happy for you!" Melanie dried her eyes. "I can't believe you're all grown up!"
Dakota laughed and looked at Jamie who just grinned. "Mom, I've been grown up for awhile now."
"I know, baby, but you just don't understand. You can't. You won't until you see your children walk down the aisle at their wedding," Melanie explained.
"Oh wow," Dakota whispered under her breath. That would be awhile, she thought. She figured she'd let her mom have her moment.
"I'm sorry," Melanie added, wiping her tears away again. "I'm just so happy for you!"
Dakota hugged her again, "I know, Momma...thank you." She kissed her cheek.
"Time to cut the cake," someone yelled out from the crowd.
Jamie looked over and grinned at Dakota who started over towards the most gorgeous wedding cake in the world, and probably one of the most expensive. Jamie followed close behind and together they took the knife and cut the first piece into it. They both took a piece with their hands and smushed it into each other's faces before devouring the rest of their piece. They had saved back a mini cake that was identical to the top tier minus the bride and groom statue to put in their freezer for their one year anniversary.
Once everyone had their slice of cake, Dakota lined up the ladies to throw the bouquet.
"Oh, I hope I catch it," Stella exclaimed.
One of Jamie's sisters was rubbing her hands together, "Nope, it's my turn next," she joked.
Dakota closed her eyes and turned around away from everyone lining up. She then threw it straight back but it angled to the left a little. She then heard a big gasp from the crowd. She turned around to see what had happened. Of all people, the bouquet landed right in front of Dulcie who was bending down to pick it up.
"Not my angel," Jamie jokingly cried out running to pick up his little princess and give her a big smooch. "You're not allowed to get married until you're 50," he told her.
Everyone burst into laughter.
"Well, I guess it's going to be awhile," Stella replied as Jamie's sister nodded.
The rest of the evening went smoothly as the steel drum band started playing and the sunset lit up the sky over the ocean in beautiful pastel pinks, purples, and blues. The hut was lit up with decorative lights that made the impending darkness seem further away.
The next morning, Jamie and Dakota were on a private jet about to land in Rio De Janeiro. At the back of the secret wedding album with all the plans Dakota dreamt of, she had stated her dream house to rent on the beaches of Rio that she wanted to spend her honeymoon at. Jamie was more than pleased to arrange the visit in advance.
"Jamie, you've left me breathless. I mean, how on earth could you have done all of this? And for me of all people..." She was shaking her head in disbelief as the pilot began the landing process.
"You're the only person I'd do it for. I want to make you happy," he started.
"You already have," she interrupted covering his mouth with her hand to shut him up.
He moved her hand and continued, "I want to make all of your dreams come true," he finished, kissing her deeply.
The plane landed and everyone got off. Dakota and Jamie's car promptly arrived and they headed off to the gorgeous house they were staying at.
Jamie tipped the chauffeur and politely asked him to get the bags. He told Dakota to stay still for a moment as he got out and ran around to her side of the car. He then processed to open the door, lift her up bridal style, and carry her over the threshold and into the house.
"Jamie, this really is unnecessary," Dakota started, while trying to hold back her laughter.
"Shhh," he whispered, "Let me do this." He continued carrying her until he got to the bedroom of the suite, then gently laid her down onto the bed that was covered in red and white rose petals. He reached up with his hand and cupped her cheek as he kissed her tenderly on the lips.
"Mmm," she moaned into his mouth. "Can we just stay like this for the entire honeymoon?"
Jamie chuckled as he pulled away. "Whatever you wish, my love."
As the plane prepared to land, Dakota could see the Christ the Redeemer statue outside the small window. "Rio? We're actually in Rio de Janeiro," she asked. Jamie just smiled in response. Dakota was touched that Jamie remembered. Awhile back in a conversation with Jamie, she had mentioned how beautiful and perfect it would be to honeymoon there.
"Oh when my baby, goes to Rio," Jamie began to sing in response. Dakota chuckled and gave him a side hug.
Author's Note: I'm deeply sorry for the delay. It has been a crazy year and a lot has happened. As I've told some of you previously, I promise I will not give up on this story. I never intended to be this long between updates. I will continue to work on it and plan to start working on the next chapter in just a few minutes actually. Thank you to all of my readers. I've missed talking with all of you. xx -A
