I Doubt That

The next day Reaper was back at the mountain, despite Reaper acting strange toward Wally's family they still didn't hate him. Iris even gave him a hug, and some food in a container which confused him greatly but he didn't complain. Wally had apparently told the others about his knowledge of stars but none of them brought it up to him.

Now, however, he was about to receive more news, Superman came in and asked to talk to him, he didn't think this would be fun. Superman looked at him, "Lois invited you over."

Reaper gave him a strange look, "What?"

"She and my parents want to meet you, and Batman said he was okay with it since you might get more used to this world."

Reaper sighed, "Let me guess, there's no way I'm getting out of this?"

Superman gave him an apologetic smile, "Not really."

Reaper would have messed up his hair in frustration but his mask stopped him from doing that so he didn't do anything. Now he was sitting in the living room after the conversation, he was sure Superboy knew about the plan. He heard Superman telling him about it afterward and he was going too, he was going to hate this.

He was watching the news but didn't pay attention to much of it, Robin sat next to him and looked at him. "Why do you always watch the news?"

Reaper shrugged, "Old habits, it was the only thing I was allowed to watch." Robin gave him a sad look and he got slightly irritated, "Don't give me that look, I never really wanted to watch anything else anyway."

Robin sighed, "Doesn't any of that bother you?"

"What, you mean the restrictions I had, not really."

They were both quiet for a minute before Robin broke the silence, "So, are you okay?"

"Meaning?"

"Well, we kind of know about your condition now."

Reaper rolled his eyes, "You're going to have to be more specific that can mean a lot of things."

"Well, Flash said your cells-."

"Are in a state of simultaneous decay and regeneration at a hyper accelerated rate."

Robin looked away, "Yeah, and Kid Flash, Wally, said that would be painful."

"Like I'm constantly dying, I'm used to it, after so long I learned to live with it, I barely think about it now."

"But are you okay?"

Reaper thought for a second, "I don't know."

Robin gave him a sad smile, "Well, it's a start."

They both started watching TV again and Reaper just got lost in his own thoughts, he wasn't thinking about anything in particular though. Superman eventually came back to get Reaper and Superboy, the masked teen wasn't sure how to feel about this. It didn't take too long to get there, they were standing in front of a farmhouse, Reaper knew this is where Superman's parents lived.

Superman knocked and a woman opened the door, she hugged Superman and Superboy, or Clark and Conner. A cat walked out of the door behind her and went right up to him, she looked up at him and he knelt down. He was about to pet her but he stopped, animals had never hated him but he was afraid of hurting them.

Maybe afraid wasn't the right word, or it fit all too well, either way he didn't think it would be a good idea. Clark, Conner, and Martha all watched him and were confused, but before they could really ask about it Clark's dad, Jonathan, came out. He smiled, "You must be Reaper."

Reaper nodded, Lois then came out and smiled at Clark, "You got back quickly." She looked at Reaper, "It's nice to finally meet you."

Reaper was going to say that she technically already had but decided not to, after all he hadn't intended for her to ever know it was him. There was a dinging sound inside and Martha went back in, he guessed that she left something in the oven. Jonathan looked at them, "I'd offer to let you watch TV but it's not working."

Clark smiled, "It's fine, we'll find something to do until dinner."

They went inside and Reaper thought for a second, he turned to smoke and went to the roof, this wouldn't be hard to fix. It took about five minutes, if that, and when he went inside he turned on the TV, it was working again. Martha had come out of the kitchen and she looked surprised, "When did the TV start working again?"

Reaper spoke, "After I fixed the antenna."

Connor looked at him, "You fixed it?"

"It wasn't hard." Reaper looked at a small bookshelf on the wall, he'd never seen most of these books before. He hesitated before taking one out, He looked at the title and Jonathan looked at him, "It's a good book if you want to read it."

Reaper looked at the man, then at the book again, and he opened it, books were some of the only things he had to pass the time in his universe. He stood next to the couch and when Lois walked in and saw him she walked over and gently had him sit down. Reaper didn't take his eyes off the book, well, they were pretty sure he didn't but they couldn't exactly tell.

Martha would glance at the teen every so often and he seemed to be reading the book fairly quickly. She smiled, "Do you always read so fast?"

He didn't even look up, "Yes."

Jonathan laughed a little, he looked at Martha, "I'm going to try and get the tractor working before dinner."

Reaper finally looked up, "Is that not working either?"

Jonathan shook his head, "No, I've been trying to fix it all morning."

Reaper hesitated, he spoke slowly, "I could try to help."

As soon as he got all of the words out he regretted saying it, maybe it wasn't too late to turn into smoke and leave. Before he could figure out what to do Jonathan smiled at him, "Sure, I could use some help."

Reaper felt himself calm down and freeze at the same time, he hadn't expected that response at all. He put the book down and followed Jonathan out to a nearby barn, the tractor was there and it had seen better days but could still run. Jonathan walked over to it and sighed, "I don't even know what's wrong with it."

Reaper looked at the machine before turning into smoke, it made it much easier to see what might be wrong. After a few seconds he changed back, "I know what's wrong."

He looked around and found what he guessed was Jonathan's tool box, he grabbed a few things out of it and started working. Jonathan stared at him for a minute, "You seem to be pretty good with machines."

"More like tech in general, I had to learn over the years and I'd appreciate it if you didn't ask why."

Jonathan smiled, "I won't, but I'm glad you do because it would have taken me forever to get this working again."

Reaper stayed silent, he wasn't sure how long it took to finish what he was doing but when he did he told Jonathan to try it. The tractor started up and the man seemed happy, "You're a life saver."

Reaper stayed silent but he doubted that, Jonathan turned the tractor off and they both went back to the house. Reaper continued reading the book he'd taken out and Jonathan told Clark and Connor about how Reaper fixed the tractor. They were both surprised but Reaper didn't say a word, not long after that Martha told them that dinner was ready.

They all sat at the table and Reaper kept reading, he was already almost done with the book and he was done by the time all the food was on the table. Reaper closed it and turned to smoke to go to the shelf and put it back, he then went back over to the table and sat down. Martha and Lois looked surprised, Lois was the first to get over it and she smiled, "Is that how no one saw you?"

"Yes and no."

Martha spoke, "How did you do that?"

"It's complicated."

Clark gave her a look that said not to press the matter and she didn't, they started eating and Reaper didn't take off his mask. Jonathan looked at Reaper, "So, how do you like the book so far?"

"I finished it, it was interesting."

Martha looked surprised, "You finished it?"

Connor spoke, "On one of our missions he memorized the information we had in ten minutes."

Reaper stayed silent and Lois looked at him, "So are you really smart or just have a good memory?"

Reaper raised an eyebrow, "Does it matter?"

Clark smiled at her a little, "Don't interrogate him, he's not a story."

Lois looked at him, "But he's interesting, you can't tell me you aren't curious."

"I am, but if he doesn't want to talk about it he doesn't have to."

Reaper was getting slightly irritated now, he wasn't too happy about the fact that they were talking about him like he wasn't in the room. In the end he decided to turn to smoke and sneak away, he went out the window and just walked around. He didn't have a particular destination in mind, he just wanted to think for a bit and didn't want to stay in one spot.

He just walked around the farm thinking about, well, everything, he never imagined anything like this would happen. Sure very few people probably think they'll end up in an alternate universe but he didn't think he'd ever have a chance to do any of this. He never thought he'd be able to just walk around a place like this, even if he probably shouldn't.

Jonathan was the one that eventually found him, Reaper had gone back to the house and sat on the porch. Jonathan sat next to him and spoke, "Weren't too happy with the conversation huh?"

Reaper felt irritated again, "Not particularly."

Jonathan sighed, "Sorry about that, Lois just goes into journalist mode when she meets people sometimes. But Martha and I are more then happy to have you here, Martha wouldn't stop talking about it."

Reaper glared at nothing, "Somehow I doubt that."

Jonathan sighed but didn't try to argue, Clark had mentioned how Reaper was stubborn so he knew there was no point. After a few minutes they went inside and Jonathan brought Reaper to the room he was staying in. He didn't leave the room after that, he was a bit tired but he couldn't sleep so he just stared at the ceiling.

It took a few hours to fall asleep, when he did he had nightmares, he could never seem to catch a break.
