Chapter 2: Games

Yvette's POV

As soon as I reached them lobby, Jeremy had already invited them in. As soon as I went down the stairs, Jeremy went beside me.

"Greetings." I said, a small smile playing in my face.

"Good morning, Lady White. I am Ciel Phantomhive, the Queen's Guard Dog." The navy blue haired boy introduced. He gestured to his butler. "And this is Sebastian Michaelis, my butler."

Sebastian bowed.

"Hello, Lady White! I'm Alois Trancy, the Queen's Spider! And this is my butler Claude Faustus!" The blonde literally shouted. I'm not deaf, you know.

"Please, no need for formalities." I said politely as possible. "I am Yvette Veronica White, the Queen's Clever Cat. This is my butler, Jeremy Valis."

I turned to Jeremy. "Lead them to the sitting room."

"Of course, Milady." Jeremy answered. "This way please."

I went first to the stairs and stopped halfway to look at a painting. My mother and father's last portrait. I shook my head and continued to walk to the sitting room.

Ciel's POV

Yvette is odd. I thought all women were like Elizabeth or Madam Red. She seems so collected and calm and not trying to be the center of attention just like what Alois is doing right now.

"Say Yvette, how long have you been in this house?" Alois asked out of the blue.

"I lived here almost all my life. except for that three years..." Yvette said, her smile fading as she whispered the last part. She must have thought no one noticed so she smiled again as if nothing happened. She continued to the sitting room.

I gestured for Sebastian to come closer. "Search everything you can about Yvette." It bugs me not knowing what happened.

"Lord Ciel, please stop searching for my master's file." Jeremy said, not turning or stopping. "You should try and let her trust you enough to make her tell you her past."

"Yeah, he's right, Ciel." Alois smirked. "I'll make sure she tells me."

"Is that a challenge?" I asked, a little pissed off. I really don't get along with Alois. "Cause I accept. I'll win."

"Okay!" Alois replied with a sinister smile. "We'll see about that."

And he continued skipping to the sitting room. Hmmp. Let the games begin.

"Lets play some chess, shall we?" Yvette invited. "I haven't been beaten before."

"We'll see about that." I said with a confident smile. "I haven't been beaten before too."

"Then let's see who's better." Yvette challenged. She's going down.

I moved my pawn first since my chess pieces are white. Yvette moved her pawn too. After a few minutes of moving pawns, rooks, bishops and knights, Yvette finally moved her queen. "Checkmate."

I looked over the board in shock. How did this happened? I've never been beaten before.

I looked up to the girl in front of me. She was wearing a triumphant smile on her face. The way her dark blue hair covered the left side of her cheek is beautiful. Wait, what did I just thought? Stupid Ciel! You have a fiance! You can't like Yvette!

"What, Ciel? Cat got your tongue?" Alois teased. I quickly regained my posture and drank my tea.

"I was just simply amazed that you beat me on the game I'm best on." I said, calmly as possible.

"Chess pieces are the same as people. Some are just pawns and while others are knights. Jeremy is both my pawn and knight. I am the player of this very chess of this cruel world. But in this game, there's no rules to abide so you can do anything to win. There's no such thing as cheating. There's only winning." She said, as if remembering something. Jeremy just stood beside her with concern in his eyes. This butler is indeed odd.

"Sebastian," I whisper-called. "Is Jeremy a-"

"Yes, he is a demon, master." Sebastian cut me off.

I looked over the suspicious butler. He has icy blue eyes and raven black hair just like Sebastian's.

"Find everything you can about them." I whispered back. I can tell Jeremy heard me and looks really unpleasant about it.

"Well then, Jeremy, is lunch ready?" Yvette asked Jeremy.

"Yes, milady. As you have wished." Jeremy smiled as he said.

Jeremy walked out of the room with Sebastian and Claude while Yvette just sat there looking really bored while staring out of the window. Alois walked to the chair beside her and sat as he looked at me with a smile on his face. The nerve of this person.

"Say, Yvette, why is your house colored black, gold and blue or dark colors while your surname is White? How ironic." Alois asked Yvette with the smile still there. Come to think of it, the manor really is far off from what I have imagined it would be. I thought it would be filled with light colors.

Yvette chuckled. "I've been told that countless of times by people who visited me in my manor. It's just that I can't really stand brightly-lighted areas. I've been living in the shadows for quite long and I thought I got used to it so I got the mansion really dark like this."

Ha. Alois thought he'd step forward in this game of ours if he asked that question. It might have relation to her past though. The butlers came back.

"Lunch is ready now, mistress." Jeremy said as he helped Yvette stand. "This way please everyone."

"Well then, we shall discuss the case after lunch." Yvette declared. Oh right. We were here for the case.

Right after that everyone, including me, dispersed out of the room and headed to the dining room.
