Part 6
After you dress you wander out of the room. The halls in Stark tower have multiple doors, and so many twists and turns it makes your head spin. You continue walking. You find an elevator, and discover you're on the 40th floor. You hit the button, and curse when it asks for identification on the screen just below the up and down buttons. How the hell has Loki been getting around this place, you wonder. That's when the screen fuzzes out and back on to reveal Tony Stark's face. He looks grumpy, and you feel your stomach drop.
"So, you did betray us," Tony says flatly. "Tell me, how did Loki get in?"
You cross your arms. "To be honest, I have no fucking idea, but I finally just got away from him. I haven't betrayed you, but things are a little complicated," you explain. You try to keep your expression blank, and your appearance laid back.
"Like I'm going to believe that," Tony replies, his dark brows furrowing in anger. "And do Asgardians really talk like this?"
"Ugh," you smack the heal of your palm against your forehead. "I spent nine years of my early childhood on Asgard. Then I lived in Midgard until last year. Okay? Now, do you want to find out what Loki is doing with the Tesseract or not?" Tony looks at you suspiciously, but he nods. You lean closer to the screen, and lower your voice in case someone decides to come down the hall. "He's opening a portal. I don't know what for, but knowing Loki it won't be good at all."
Tony clears his throat. "Okay, I still don't trust you, but you're the only person we've got on the inside." He stops for a moment, obviously deep in thought. "I'll tell Fury you're accounted for, but here's the deal. You're going to go up to the fiftieth floor, (I'll grant you access through the system), and then you're going to go the bar and wait there. I'll be there soon." As he cuts off, the elevator opens, and you step inside. The whole thing was gray, cool, metal, and screens popped up if you stood in certain spots. Tony popped up again. "Lie to him if you need to." You nod uneasily, and then Tony disappears again as the elevator shoots up.
*
The doors open into a gold colored room. You step out and look around. There is a circular area with a red sofa in the middle. It's all coffee tables, and clean table tops. There is a bar like Tony told you. You press your lips to together, stride across the room, and go to sit on a barstool. You adjust your clothing, and rest your elbows on the table. You clasp your hands together and cross your legs. Now, you wonder how long you will be waiting.
You don't have to wait long for, though. Loki exits the elevator. His face contorts when he sees you. Obviously your little spat is still a fresh wound in his mind.
He's dressed fully, helmet and all; scepter included. "How did you find your way up here?" He asks incredulously as he wanders over to the opposite side of the room near the large windows. You realize, like a slap to the face, that he's trying to keep his distance from you.
You don't answer, you just let your hair fall into your face. A sickness weights your stomach. You wish he wouldn't look at you like he is. His eyes piercing; accusing even, and his mouth set into hard line. Usually when he looks at you he isn't this cold; he isn't so rigid, so unforgiving. It scares you. It terrifies you to think you're breaking him further.
"So," he looks out at the city, now sunlit skyline. You could imagine looking down at the little ant-people.. "Who did you contact to get up here? The man of iron?" Loki looks bored, almost aloof as he gazes at you from across the room. He turns, and furrows his brows in anger. "Answer me!" He shouts. You jump. Loki has never so much as raised his voice towards you. "Dammit, woman!" He growls and turns around. "Dammit all to hell."
You're still quiet, sitting as you have since he entered. He turns back to you, and you can see his eyes shining with fresh hurt. . . And. . Newfound hatred.
"Why do you refuse to speak?!" He yells. "You, a half midgardian woman, have brought me to my knees. We've bedded together, and now you refuse to give any utterance of what is going to happen to us? I'm going to rule this Earth, and you choose strangers over me, your man?"
You sigh, and blow a strand of hair out of your face in exasperation. For some reason you're extremely calm, and have managed to compose yourself. Of course, you don't know why, but you go with it. You stick to your instincts. "Loki, that sounds rather archaic." He looks at you in frustration. You continue anyway. "I wish we could talk about this, but we can't. This was my home as much as Asgard is. I don't want it ravaged by an alien race. I don't want you to dictate these people. This world is already full of enough sadness and chaos as it is."
Loki laughs. "Humans were made to be ruled." He grins. "Freedom is an illusion to these pitiful creatures."
You frown. "Loki. . . . ." You don't know why you keep saying his name, but somehow it's helping. "I'm half of one of those 'pitiful creatures.' Without Earth, and without humans, I wouldn't exist." You suddenly feel enraged, unclasping your hands, and slamming one against the counter top. "Your 'darling,'" you spit acidly. "Is half human. I'm a pitiful creature madly in love with a damned monster!" As the words leave your lips, you let out a small, pathetic, cry of despair. What have you done? What have you said to him? "L-Loki," you whimper, getting off of the stool. He is blank-faced; shocked into silence. You lift a hand towards him. "I-I-I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it." You're stuttering and shaking uncontrollably.
As you try to think of something to say to fix this, a sound that reminds you of a mini jet engine is heard. You follow Loki's gaze to Ironman, landing his own airway. Mechanical arms take the suit off of him. Loki shakes himself to clear his thoughts, and goes out to greet Tony.
And I'm going to have to stop it here, sorry guys.. I promise to have this part done by tomorrow or the next day
