Part 2
They led him away in cuffs. You watched from behind a glass wall as they did. You were in the lab with Thor, Tony Stark, and a doctor by the name of Bruce Banner. Stark and Banner were working on tracking the Tesseract at the moment. The meeting you had just attended left you with the task of trying to get Loki to talk. You had uncomfortably been forced to tell the story of you and Loki's time together the previous year. This left you the ill task of trying to get him to tell you where the Tesseract is, and Agent Romanoff the task of trying to figure out what he wants on this S.H.I.E.L.D ship. It hadn't surprised you when it lifted itself out of the ocean and into the sky, propelled by high powered turbines.
Now you stand in a corner with your arms crossed , as Thor whispers instructions to you. When Loki disappears from your view you decide to begin your mission. You touch your brothers arm, and he gives you a small nod. You stride across the room, feeling everyone's eyes on your back. As you open the door, you look back and your eyes connect with Stark's. You can feel the distrust rolling off of him in waves. In fact, none of them trust you but Thor. You frown and shut the door behind you, not releasing a breath until you hear the definitive click of the bolt.
You brush your hair out of your face, and roll your shoulders back, mentally preparing yourself for the exchange that is about to happen. You walk down the hall, your boots clanging against the metal floor as you do. You start to perspire, feeling your palms go clammy. You wipe them off on your breeches, and suddenly the white walls seem too bright. Your breathing picks up as you round a corner, and finally end up in a large room. A glass prison is held above a closed surface. You bite your lip, and take a breath before trudging out onto the catwalk connected to the holding cell. You pass a board with numerous buttons, you have a feeling it controls the robotic arms that keep the cell suspended.
Loki turns, and sees you. His eyes narrow, and he walks across the room, leaning against the glass wall. You swallow again, and slowly approach him. You look up at him, and he looks down at you, studying you meticulously. You rest your hand against the cool glass, and surprisingly, he rests his on the other side of yours. His forehead rests against his arm.
"They sent you here," Loki says. You can't detect any note of emotion in his voice, but his facial expression is a different story. His green eyes looked pained, and his narrow mouth is set into a grimace.
"Yes," you hear yourself admit. Even though you know he would lie to you without a second thought, you can't bring yourself to do the same thing to him. "Loki. . . ." You look at the grated walkway beneath your boots. Your confidence has failed you. You know you can no longer go through with this.
Instead, Loki speaks and saves you the humility of trying to act like you're the spy everyone wants you to be. "The last woman who was in here actually played me like a card game." He scoffs and shakes his head. "Do you remember," he mumbles, making you lift your head to look at him. Your hands are still placed in the same spot. You wish you could touch him. "When we were children, and you did that to me?" He's smiling, and in turn it makes you smile.
"It never happened again," you laugh. Loki nods, and his smile slowly disappears.
"(Y/N)," Loki says in a hushed voice. "I know neither of us are in the best position right now. . ." He shakes his head. "But I never forgot that promise I made you." He sighs, and for once you actually see true remorse splayed across his facial features. "And I know you will never stop loving me. I'm sorry it has to be this way."
You bite your bottom lip, and continue to stare into his eyes. Somehow, you feel you'll get use to seeing him like this. In a cage. It makes your stomach turn. You know he deserves it, but it still pains you to think about it. To think he'll never see the beautiful skyline of Asgard again. To think that maybe they'll be harsher, and they'll kill him.
"Loki. . ." You choke up, and your throat tightens. "I wish there was Something I could say to get you to stop this insanity, and I know I'll never get you to talk." You shake your head. "How odd is it that we both love each other so goddamned much, but we trust each other as much as an ant would trust a spider?"
Loki smirks. "You always were one for eloquent similes." He says to himself. "Even when we were children."
You feel yourself smiling despite the seriousness of the situation. "Why do you keep mentioning our childhood?"
He frowns, and presses his hand into the glass so that his hand has turned white from pressure. "Things were much simpler back then."
At that moment, the ground lurches under your feet and you stumble forward. "What was that?" You say frantically. Loki looks at you sympathetically.
"Get out of here," he tells you. His voice is stern and commanding. For once he does sound like a leader, but you will have none of it.
"Why?" You challenge him with a sharpness to your voice.
"I didn't think my 'friends' would show up this quickly." He cross his arms. "Now get out of here." He looks calm, but there's an urgent tone in his voice. You know he's begging you. "Please (Y/N), get to a safe place. It's either that, or you join me against your will." You chew your lip, what does he mean by that? You don't need to wait long for an answer because you hear an odd noise, and then you feel an explosion of pain on the back of your head. "Be careful with her!" Are the last words you hear before slipping into a world of darkness.
