𝟎𝟎𝟎 late night shifts

Prologue,

late night shifts

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

Citlali was overwhelmed she practically spent thirty minutes just begging her coworker to not leave her alone in the cafe, she despised closing, especially when she turns off the entire lights, it was always a drag for her, especially when she had to use her white cane, and slowly moving it around and sometimes bumping into the ends of the table of the chairs.

She didn't like her white cane, though it was the closest thing she had for helping, especially when she's alone.

She had finished up sweeping the ground, and tossing everything in the trash can, as she had placed everything on the ground, flinching a bit when she had heard the sweeper fall in the ground, "Shit, again." There were moments of her where she accidentally wouldn't place the sweeper against the wall, and it would drop, as she would use her cane and moving it around to see where it landed, so she can go and pick it up afterwards.

The sound of the cafe's landline phone was ringing, she found it strangely odd since the bakery is already closed, though perhaps this person wasn't aware of that, so she slowly had made her way on over to the counter, gliding her hand on the counter in search of the phone until she had felt it, picking up the phone and placing it in her ear, "I'm so sorry, but we're closed for the night." She sweetly responded to the unknown caller.

A very disoriented voice was heard, "I'm sorry, I just wanted to hear your voice again. . ." Unknown caller confessed, it was the truth since he came into the cafe earlier today, "You're a gorgeous little thing, aren't you?" He seductively called out that instantly made her uncomfortable.

"Oh. . ." She had nervously chuckled, and instantly rubbed the palm of her very own hand on her pants, she was uncomfortable by what she had heard, "I should really get going, goodbye." She was attempting to disconnect from the line only for this unknown caller to resort in full anger.

The unknown caller spat, "You hang up little bitch, I'll kill you. . . and, you won't even see it coming." He taunted her before he let out a humorous laugh, "Who knows I'm probably already inside and hiding just waiting for you, Citlali." Her face had paled at what she heard.

Stumbling with her words, "I — How do you know my name?" Her eyes were roaming around, and despite not being able to see she can still see figures, but she hadn't even seen anything passing by her, "Please, stop. This prank call isn't funny." Her voice had simply cracked.

The voice snickered in amusement, "I'll stop these calls when your mommy tells you the truth. . ." He revealed to her before he continued taunting her, "Citlali, or maybe the fun is barely starting because bitches like your sister and you don't deserve to live." He angrily yelled out.

She was highly confused on this unknown persons outburst, perhaps he somehow had the call wrong, and there's also thousands of other girls with the same name as her. Because she  didn't even have a sister, she's an only child.

"I think you have the wrong girl. . ." She anxiously bit her bottom lip, "Goodbye now." She was about to hang up until she heard one last thing.

"I think I have the right girl. . . and, you'll see very soon, Citlali." The line had ultimately went dead, that sent immediate shivers down her own spine, despite placing the phone back down.

She has nervously sat down in one of the chairs that was closest by, her heart was just pounding rapidly, a part of her wanted to call her mom, but she had the night shift — She was a nurse, and she didn't want to interrupt her mom because of this weird prank call, so she had just remained lost in her own head, and processing everything.

The sound of the cafe doors bell was heard, and opening instantly that made her flinch and call out before the unknown person had made their presence known, "We're closed, please leave!" Her voice slightly raised as she was a bit terrified.

A familiar girls voice, "It's just me, Anika. What's the matter, you sound terrified?" Her childhood friend had casually approached her, placing a hand on her shoulder, Citlali had flinched before relaxing at her friends touch.

Citlali sighed sadly, "There was this weird unknown caller, his voice was disoriented and was saying all this weird shit. . ." She rambled casually to her friend, "He wouldn't leave me alone, but then he just randomly hung up on me afterwards." She finished her sentence.

Anika had let all of that information sink in her head, gently speaking to her friend, "Don't you be answering the phone at your job here so late, especially on creeps like them, and don't be attempting to entertain them." She lectured her friend.

Anika already knew how her friend is, she had a tendency of being a sweetheart to strange people, and she didn't like that one bit. She was always afraid of someone at some point taking advantage of her friends kindness, and casually mistakingly for something else.

Citlali had an offended look, "I don't keep creepy people entertained." She had retorted.

   Anika hummed, "Sure. . ."

"Shouldn't you be getting ready for that Halloween party?" Citlali changed the subject with her friend.

Anika had a grin casually plastered on her own lips, "I should be, but I came to pick you up." Crossing her fingers that Citlali agrees on going, she seen how stressed her friend always was, she wanted her to let loose and have fun this once.

Citlali had sighed to herself, she couldn't help, but think that maybe it won't be so bad to enjoy a night out, and have fun with her friend.

"We won't be back so late?" She had raised her own eyebrow at her friend, "I have a shift here at work at nine in the morning." And, she couldn't miss any days off from work because she's almost reaching her goal to get her guide dog.

Anika had placed her hand on her chest despite her friend not able to see that, and confidently speaking to her, "I swear, we won't be there so late, and I can introduce you to my girlfriend and friends." She had grinned in excitement.

Citlali's lips curled upwards, she heard all about Mindy, her friend would constantly rant about her, and she had excitedly spoken to her friend, "Sounds fun."

Anika had casually looped her entire arm around her friends arm, and helping her down from the chair, "I just have to turn the entire lights off from here before we can go." She had gently told her friend.

Anika who had sincerely spoken, "I'll do it, you have the keys with you, so I can close up the place?" Citlali had dug her hand into her own jean pockets and casually handing it to her friend, and patiently began to wait for her by the doorway.

Citlali had heard the lights suddenly completely flickered off, and instantly felt her friend loop her arms around her arm, "Let's go." She excitedly told her friend, the two girls leaving the cafe, "I already have a Halloween outfit picked out for you." Anika had grinned in pure excitement.

Citlali groaned, "Scared."

Anika let out a light chuckle, "You'll have someone fall in love with you." She teased her friend.

"I'm already seeing someone, Anika." She reminded her friend.

"Ah. Mystery boy." Anika had teased her friend, it was also mostly because her friend wouldn't give her a name, and would blush like a fire truck, "Who knows maybe your mystery boy is at the party, and I can interrogate him." She hummed.

"Don't do that." She groaned in slight embarrassment and attempting to hold back her laughter despite Anika who began to laugh at her friend's embarrassment.

Especially, considering she's always
heard him rambling on about a
