chapter 9
Wirt smacked his forehead and began to mumble to himself. "Look, just get to bed. I'll see you in the morning. Goodnight." Wirt says as he rubs the back of his neck. Beatrice was about to tell him he couldn't tell her what to do until she saw his face. She knew he wasn't in the mood to argue. Beatrice got under the bed sheets and began to think: "Maybe I should stay here. I'm going to school, I have a place to stay, and my best friends' at my side." "Beatrice? You’re still awake? Go to bed." Wirt moaned. "Did I say that out loud?" Beatrice asked. "Yes." Wirt said very lazily. "Can we talk about it? I really just don't know what to do." Beatrice said as she sat up. Wirt didn't even both to say anything. He sat up and turned the lamp light on so he wouldn't be as tempted to go back to sleep. "So, I’m thinking of staying here actually." Beatrice said nervously. Beatrice saw surprised by how Wirt was so.....happy? "Really? That's awesome! I'm sure my mom wouldn't mind letting you stay here." He said as he jumped up out of bed, about to tell his mom. "You would really let me stay here until the Beast problem blows over?" Beatrice asks in a flattered voice. "What are friends for?" Wirt asks. "Yah......Friends.........Well, goodnight." Beatrice says. "Is something wrong? You don't sound thrilled." Wirt said. "Yah, I’m fine. I'm just tired. Goodnight......again." Beatrice says awkwardly. Wirt just shrugs and turns the light off. Wirt had forgot completely about telling his mother. Meanwhile, that one word "friend" echoed in her head. The way he said it made it seem like he didn't care about her. She didn't know why she cared. It didn't matter right now though. She needed to get to bed or she would wake up late. The room became so silent that all she could hear was the sound of Wirt breathing so slowly. She almost felt hypnotized by the gentle sound. Her life was usually nothing but rush, rush, and rush! "Beatrice, fetch the water! Beatrice, make dinner. Beatrice, trudge 3 miles into the forest and fetch wood for the fire in 15 inches of snow while it's below 30!" "Beatrice?" Wirt said. "Yes, Wirt." Beatrice answered. "You do know you’re still talking out loud right?" Beatrice began to blush in embarrassment. Her mother always told her not to complain and the first time she decides to complain like a little baby Wirt hears. Beatrice didn't answer and tried her best to sleep. It almost seems to Beatrice like the morning had started the same way it started the day before. Wirt woke her up, she put her close on, and almost missed the bus. This time though, when those people tried to trip her she did just what Wirt said and walked on their feet. When she sat next to Wirt he began to laugh. The exceptions on those guys who tried to trip her was priceless. When they got to school this time though, no one stopped her from going to her classroom. That was where the good news ended. The rest of the day was worse than the first day. She forgot her homework! But luckily the teacher let her turn it in tomorrow. In 2nd period Sara's "home girls" began to tease her about her hair. They would have continued if Wirt hadn't jumped in to defend her. He really had changed since his last visit to the unknown. When she got home Wirt ran happily to his mother's room to talk about Beatrice staying at their house. He told her how Beatrice would need to stay there until her aunt came from Canada to pick her up. With joy the mother said yes. "It's been so long since I’ve had some real girl time!!!" The mother said with great joy. Wirt ran down stairs to tell Beatrice the great news. "All we have to do is find a way to figure out when it's safe to bring you back.....And find a way to get you there or whatever."
