Woozi stared at them, shock written all over his face as the two tried to straighten themselves.
"Explain yourself" He said angrily.
"Calm down" Seungcheol whispered.
"I'm calm!" Woozi answered. Seungcheol slowly told him everything. The small man listened with fury shining through his eyes. He was really surprised. He couldn't believe what he had just heard.
"So you two are married?" He yelled.
The two said nothing.
"So it's because of him that you decided to avoid me? You forgot everything about us because of Jeonghan? because his parents got broke? You hated him!" He screamed.
"Woozi!" Seungcheol whispered in a tired voice.
Woozi choked, his voice breaking in between sobs. "You've always known how I felt about you. I have always loved you and waited for you to love me back but you..."
His face was bright red. He turned towards the door, his entire body shaking.
"I'll make sure everyone knows about this"
"Please don't, I'll leave" Jeonghan whispered
Seungcheol held Jeonghan's hand glaring at him.
"You're not going anywhere" He said sternly and looked at Woozi. "If you want to tell the world, then go ahead"
Jeonghan stared at Seungcheol and wringed his hands off from him. "Are you crazy? What are you doing? You really want everyone to know about us?"
Seungcheol looked indifferent with a look of determination on his face.
Woozi stared at them bitterly unable to say another word. He left immediately, banging the door hard.
"What did you do?" Jeonghan screamed.
"Jeonghan, it's better this way. We can't keep living a lie" Seungcheol said and Jeonghan just scoffed.
"This is a lie!" He shouted.
Seungcheol looked hurt but that expression vanished almost immediately from his face, watching Jeonghan whose entire countenance was filled with anxiety.
"I don't know what's wrong with me? I don't understand why I keep acting this way because of you" Jeonghan said running a hand through his head.
Seungcheol smiled "Just admit it. There's something between us. You... "
"Stop right there Seungcheol! We have nothing between us. We never will" He shook his head madly. "Just because you and I....Just because we happened to be in some peculiar situations doesn't mean anything"
His eyes was unfocused, he was breathing really hard.
Seungcheol couldn't say anything to his words earlier. His heart felt broken as he watched Jeonghan storm into his room.
The next morning at school, there were whisperings and murmurings around Jeonghan. It was obvious that everyone already found out about his secret marriage to Seungcheol. He ducked his head trying to avoid attention but it was clearly impossible. Everywhere he went, people talked. This was what he had been avoiding. A couple of girls even gave him death glares as he passed by.
Joshua wasn't at school and he had been trying to find him. He knew that by now, the news must have gotten to him. But somehow in a strange way, he felt relieved like he could finally breathe. Though he hated Woozi for spilling the news, he felt somewhat happy he exposed them. He had been feeling stiffled having to hide and lie to Joshua. Now, he felt a bit better. Later that day, he decided to visit Joshua so he went to his apartment to see him. When he got to the tiny room, he was astonished.
"Joshua...." He whispered. Joshua and Seokmin where locking lips intensely. They quickly backed away and looked at him as soon as they discovered his presence. Joshua stood up. He didn't look guilty even a tiny bit. He just looked impassive as he placed both his hands inside his pocket, seeming calm.
"So now you know." He said and shrugged.
Jeonghan sighed and came closer
"How long?"
"It's been about two weeks now" Joshua responded and crossed his arms non chalantly. His eyes darkened.
"But this doesn't compare to your lies and treachery" he said through gritted teeth
Jeonghan gulped looking absolutely miserable. "I can explain"
Joshua snorted "Can you? Really?"
Jeonghan couldn't answer. There was nothing he could say. He had lied and decieved him. That bit was so true
"I can't believe you are married to Choi Seungcheol, the campus bad guy, the one you hated with a passion all because your family got broke?"
Jeonghan hung his head. "There is nothing I can say to redeem myself but I want you to know that the marriage means nothing to me. It's a fake one. We will be divorced by the end of this year"
He was still trying to decieve himself.
Joshua laughed bitterly. "Are you really that oblivious? I know you Jeonghan, no one can make you do anything, especially something you don't want to do. A part of you wanted the marriage, if not you would never have succumbed to it!"
He bit his lips hard. "I feel so stupid. I kept wondering why you where acting the way you where. I would never have imagined it was because you had married him. No wonder i always found it difficult to get close to you" He scoffed looking impatient. "And here you are telling me that the marriage means nothing to you"
Seokmin who had been shifting uncomfortably in his seat stood up.
"Let me leave you two...."
But Joshua held his hand "The one who is leaving is him" He said gesturing to Jeonghan.
"Joshua... " There were tears in the blonde's eyes.
Joshua pulled Seokmin closer to his chest. "I have fallen in love with Seokmin. He was here when you weren't, when you abandoned me, probably because you were too busy wrapped up in Choi Seungcheol's arms"
Jeonghan sniffed watching them. He knew deep down, he no longer loved Joshua but it still hurt seeing him like. His former lover finally softened.
"Go home Jeonghan and figure out what it is you really want. But as for you and I, we are really over"
Jeonghan nodded "I understand and I truly hope that one day you'll forgive me for lying to you. I'm really sorry"
He bowed his head and left the room. Tears filled his eyes as he walked home. He called his boss at the cafe and asked him for a few days leave. The man obliged because he had been working so hard this past six months. Jeonghan entered the house but as soon as he entered, he felt empty like something was amiss. He called out Seungcheol's name but there was no response. Then he saw a white folded paper lying on the center table in the living room. He picked it, opened it and read it. It was a handwritten note from Seungcheol.
Jeonghan, I will be away for some time. I really don't know when I will be returning. After yesterday's turn of events, I decided to clear my head and give you some space and time to think. I don't really have much to think about. What I do know is that I really like you Jeonghan. Actually I had liked you a long time ago but pride and ego changed everything, kept me away from you but now, living with you brought clarity into my life. I was able to reexamine my self and I realized I have not been living well. But with you, it's different. You make me want to be a better person, you make me want to protect you, you make me want to do anything like eating crabs just so I can have you close to me"
At that, Jeonghan chuckled but his heart was hurting.
"But most of all, you make me happy. I really wish we could forget all the prejudice of the past, our family problems and just be together. You and I have a connection but I know I can't force you to accept me. I can't live with you knowing that I cannot express myself to you so I need you to think about what you really want because when I return there is only one thing to do. It's either we get a divorce or we stay together. I wish you happiness and I hope you choose wisely...until then
Yours
Choi Seungcheol
Jeonghan almost wanted to cry again but he held back his tears. He remembered all the terrible words he said to Seungcheol last night. Thinking back, he really regretted them. He didn't mean them at all. He was just really confused of his feelings. Now, he couldn't help but wonder how long Seungcheol was going to be away. He moved around in a daze that day. That night when it was time to sleep, he tossed and turned in bed but sleep did not come. He was extremely restless. He stood up and found himself walking towards Seungcheol's room.
"What am I doing?" He whispered to himself as he entered the room. The window was open and the cool breeze was blowing the papers scattered on the table to and fro. Jeonghan quickly rushed to close the window. As soon as he did that, he turned when his eyes caught something. It was a beautiful drawing of him. In fact there were several. Jeonghan perused through them. He saw one sketch of himself cooking, another one of himself doing his assignment, his head bent over in concentration but the one that really caught his attention was the one of him sleeping in the basement. Seeing the clothes in the drawing, he discovered it was drawn on the day he ended up in Seungcheol's bed, that night things turned a bit heated. He was shocked. He could imagine Seungcheol sitting down on this table with nothing to do, his head bent in concentration as he drew his portrait. It was a bit creepy but he couldn't deny it was so sweet of him. He had no idea Seungcheol's feelings for him ran this deep. He felt hot tear droplets fall from his eyes. He picked up the drawing and placed it on his chest. It was as though he could feel what Seungcheol had felt when he drew this picture. Holding the picture tightly to his chest, he laid down on his bed. He could perceive Seungcheol's scent all over him and he suddenly realized...
He missed him. He missed him so much. Now, it was more heartbreaking because he was going to feel this way till the time his husband decided to come back.
The following day went on like a drag. Jeonghan no longer cared about the voices or the side talks. No one had dared to say anything straight to his face. Despite everything, he came from an influential and recognized family. He knew that as soon as they get back on their feet, they would be powerful once again so there was no need for him to feel intimidated. He held his head high. People noticed it and some were impressed. One of his female lecturers stopped him after her class.
"Congratulations, you should have invited me to the wedding"
Jeonghan forced a smile "It was a simple one!"
"But you are married to Choi Seungcheol. There is nothing simple about that silly" She giggled and walked away.
It was then it dawned on him that being married to Seungcheol was actually a huge deal, not nearly as bad as he thought and as his spouse, he was untouchable and was looked upon both with jealousy and admiration because half the school wanted to be in his shoes. His head swelled for a moment. His steps began to bounce but it faltered when he remembered that he wasn't going to see Seungcheol when he got home. He thought of going to see his other friends especially the noisy Seungkwan but they were all angry with him because of two things. First he married Seungcheol and secondly, he didn't tell them. No one was ready to see him. He was definitely not welcome in their abode. He was tempted to call Seungcheol but he held himself back from doing so. He wasn't going to give in so easily.
He breathed deeply and headed to his house but he stopped when he saw a figure scooting down in front of the gate. His heart leaped.
"Seungcheol?" He cried and rushed to the gate but he was even more surprised when he saw who it was. It wasn't Seungcheol. It was his sister Jessica.
"Jessica!" He whispered. She looked up at him and stood up looking relieved.
"What are you doing here?" he asked. She didn't respond. She looked dirty and haggard as though she's being wandering around for a long time.
"Come inside. You need to freshen up" He said holding up his nose. She had a slightly unpleasant odour. They both entered the house.
"Are you hungry?" Jeonghan asked. She simply nodded and Jeonghan flew to the kitchen.
"While you're at it, you can take a bath in the guestroom" He shouted.
She seemed oblivious as she looked around the house.
"You've never been to this house before?" He said and she shook her head.
Jeonghan was a bit alarmed but he just shrugged and pointed to the guest room.
"Go in there, I'll get you some clothes" He said.
Jessica nodded and entered the guest room while Jeonghan brought her some clothes. A big pull over and jump shorts. He placed them on the bed and returned to the kitchen. By the time she was out, he had almost finished cooking. Jessica went to the living room, sat down and began to watch TV. Jeonghan looked at her. It felt like she was in her own world. As he stared closely at her, he knew something was wrong with her. He noticed the marks on her neck which seemed as if she had almost been strangled.
Jeonghan was finished with the pasta and set it down on the table.
"Food is ready!" He called out to Jessica and she rushed to join him. Immediately she sat, she began eating as if she had starved for days
"What happened?" Jeonghan asked.
"Where is Seungcheol?" She suddenly interrupted. Jeonghan felt slighted by her interruption but he adjusted, no trace of annoyance evident on his face.
"He travelled but he'll be back soon"
She simply nodded and returned to her food, minding her own business. Jeonghan noticed she wasn't ready to talk so he left it that way. Jessica remained silent throughout that day, just watching TV calmly while Jeonghan tried to focus on anything but Seungcheol.
It was the same thing the following days till it was almost a week. Jeonghan finally returned to work but Jessica said nothing to him and he decided not to push her though he was worried about her. The marks on her neck was slowly fading after he had given her medicine for it but she had refused to tell him the cause. He wasn't one to push. It was more than two weeks and there was no sign of Seungcheol so he decided to put down his pride and call him. He got to voicemail so he decided to leave a message.
Hey Seungcheol, it's me Jeonghan. It's been more than two weeks now and I haven't heard from you. I have finally decided and you need to come home in other to hear my response. Your sister is with me. She's alright but I'm worried about her. She has marks all over her body and she won't say where it's from but I'm taking care of her. She's getting better now. I hope you are doing fine. Please be safe where ever you are. Bye.
Jeonghan couldn't believe himself but he had done it. He had allowed his feelings take over him. There was no response for the next three days and Jeonghan was beginning to worry endlessly. One afternoon, he sat close to the pool with a faraway look in his eyes when he felt a presence beside him blocking his shadow. He was shocked to find Jessica sitting close to him on the long bench.
She smiled warmly. "You seem different from all the other people in my brother's life" She said.
Jeonghan was shocked to hear her voice. She seemed to even be in a good mood. He calmed down and smiled.
"Do you miss him?" She asked.
"I guess!"
She breathed deeply "Do you love him?"
Jeonghan was quiet but Jessica waited patiently.
"I don't know...." He whispered lowering his lashes.
"It's okay. We are all confused at a certain point in our lives" She said. "I have something I want to say but I will wait for my brother to return"
She gritted her teeth "I have lived in silence for far too long and now it's my turn to speak"
"What are you talking about?"
Jessica just smiled, stood up and left. Now he knew that there was nothing mentally wrong with her. She's only a woman who loves to keep secrets.
That night, Thunder threatened the sky. The rains wanted to pour. Jeonghan laid in Seungcheol's bed clinging onto the sheets when he heard a soft voice whisper his name. He ignored it and closed his eyes as he wept slowly.
"Jeonghannie!" The voice came up again as he felt a dip on the bed. Jeonghan startled. There was only one person who added Hannie to his name. He turned abruptly and saw Seungcheol sitting down looking at him.
"Seungcheol!" He screamed in happiness.
"It's me, I'm back" He whispered looking lovingly at him. Jeonghan flung himself into his outstretched arms feeling his warmth.
"I'm sorry Seungcheol. I really missed you"
"I missed you too.... So much I almost went crazy"
Seungcheol held his hands and looked him deep in the eyes.
"Do you feel the same way?"
Jeonghan scoffed. "Choi Seungcheol, I'm in your room, lying on your bed with tears in my eyes. I think it's pretty obvious"
Seungcheol hugged him tightly. "You have no idea how happy you've made me"
Jeonghan pulled away and hit him lightly on the chest. "Don't ever take off like that again. I was worried to death"
"Alright, I'll never do that again"
"Promise?"
"I promise"
He kissed him lightly on the forehead and laid down beside Jeonghan on the bed wrapping his arms around him.
"Goodnight Jeonghan!" Seungcheol whispered into his ear giving him a final kiss on his cheek
He smiled. " Goodnight Seungcheol!"
The rain started to pour and for the first time in a long time, he slept like a baby.
