Epilogue - A year later

Kellin Quinn wakes up to a sweet smell filling the room. He inhales slowly and instantly realizes the scent smells like recently made waffles, which makes him smile while he opens up his eyes. He turns to his side and cuddles into a pillow and looks at the closed blinds that are keeping the sunshine away from the room. It appears like it is going to be a hot one today and Kellin wouldn't have it any other way. He situates himself more comfortably between the pillows and that's when it downs him. Right.

He quickly checks his phone on the bedside table and confirms it, but before he can do anything else, the bedroom door opens and in walks the brown haired boy that he gets to call his boyfriend. The word still sounds unreal to him. Vic is his boyfriend. He's boyfriends with his best friend. The thought makes his stomach flip.

Vic is holding a tray with what looks like tons of breakfast food in it, and just at the sight of it Kellin's stomach grumbles. Vic walks a few steps towards Kellin when he realizes the boy is already awake.

"Baby," he whines and physically deflates. "Why are you already up?"

Kellin laughs and sits up on the bed, rubbing the sleep off his eyes.

"Something smelled really good," he grins.

Vic sighs and walks all the way to their bed and sits besides Kellin, placing the tray in front of him.

"Alright, let's pretend I just woke you up," he says and gives him a golden smile. "This is for you."

Breakfast in bed. Leave Vic to have the most overused but completely romantic idea for today. Only he would wake up at ungodly hours to prepare all this for him, for their...

"Happy anniversary, Kells."

He can't believe it's already been a year. Three hundred and sixty five days since that date that changed it all. To him it feels like it was yesterday, really. That dumb party, his run away from that dumb party, their kiss in the rain, the takeout they ate at Vic's place while watching movies all night after the rain stopped... it all feels so recent still.

He remembers everything so clearly, especially those three days he spent with Vic in Albany after, being the tourist he never thought he'd be. Vic showed him the city he grew up in from the most known places to the most secret ones he'd discovered as he was growing up. That had been Vic's plan all along, to get Kellin to know his hometown. Vic never expected to do it while holding hands with him though, or kissing anytime they had the chance. It was better than they could've ever imagined.

And so much has happened since then too. He guesses time likes to fly. But time is something he doesn't like to worry about at all, and it really shouldn't matter when you're spending it all with the best person by your side.

Kellin smiles at Vic and hugs him tightly, careful not to let anything fall from the tray. "You shouldn't have," he smiles against his shirt. He looks at him and his smile turns into a smirk. "Happy anniversary of the best day of your life."

Vic scoffs, "and yours."

"Yeah, I guess..." Kellin shrugs, but is smiling the whole time too.

Vic leans into him and kisses him softly on the lips, Kellin closes his eyes and savors the moment. No matter how many times they kiss, butterflies will always erupt inside him when their lips touch. Kissing Vic is his favorite thing and he feels like he could do it all day, but then his stomach grumbles again.

Vic pulls away and rests his forehead against his boyfriend's. "Someone's hungry," he smiles and Kellin rolls his eyes. That signature blush present on his cheeks.

"Okay, what did you make?" The dark haired boy looks at the tray still on his lap. Vic prepared all his favorite breakfast food and his heart warmed at the thought of him doing all this while he was sleeping. Vic sits in front of him with his legs crossed. He picks up the cutlery he had placed neatly on the side of the tray and starts to cut up the blueberry waffles with cream. He holds up a piece to Kellin's mouth.

"Seriously?" He asks, to which Vic eagerly nods.

"I'm going all the way romantic today, so be prepared."

Kellin laughs, "oh, Lord help us."

He takes the bite of waffle and has to close his eyes because they're that good. He never thought Vic would be so good at cooking, but within seven months of living together he's come to realize his boyfriend is secretly a chef. And he loves every bit of it.

"It's so good," he says with a mouthful and Vic smiles. He hands him his own cutlery now and they both start digging into all the food.

Vic had made the blueberry waffles, toasts, spinach and cheese omelets, dark coffee for himself and a cappuccino for Kellin, and he'd also served tons of fruit in a bowl and another one with yogurt.

"This is honestly so good, babe." Kellin hums as he takes a bite of the omelet. "Honestly." He repeats.

Vic chuckles as he takes a sip from his mug, "anything for you, love."

Kellin smiles and blushes at the nickname, but he doesn't hide it anymore. He got so used to it, he might as well be red all the time with Vic around. And that's only one of the few things that'd changed during their first year together.

The biggest one of those, they said goodbye to the coldness of New York City and embraced a new beginning in San Diego, California. Vic opened up his own bar downtown and it was doing pretty well, and Kellin started working at a publisher where he gets paid to read all day long, the best job, if you ask him. He's also been writing a lot too, finding more inspiration during the past year than ever in his life. He clearly knows who to thank for that.

They found an apartment near the beach and they've lived there ever since they moved to the sunny state. Kellin is still thrilled to be living somewhere so warm and different from the city and he feels like his life made a turn for the best the moment he let himself go and kissed Vic.

Thinking about that moment makes him laugh now, because he remembers being so terrified at what he'd done, and he understood why he felt like that then, but now it all just seems so simple. He kissed Vic because he had fallen so in love with him, he couldn't keep his feelings inside any longer, it all just became so much and with so many thoughts running through his brain and his heart more than ready to explode, he couldn't do anything else than give into what he wanted the most. And he didn't regret a single thing now.

He realized he couldn't live without telling Vic about what he felt; and even if he rejected him, Kellin would've been fine with Vic just knowing, it would definitely hurt a little less. He doesn't like to think about that possibility, though.

However, what's funnier to him is how it all happened in such an infamous date. The day he loathed most every year and the day he spent so much time bashing on became the best day of his life. It was like the universe played a bad joke on him, that whole day had been one, but the fact that it turned out to be his anniversary date took the prize. Anyway, it didn't matter to him then and it so doesn't matter to him now.

He doesn't hate it as much now, he didn't wake up feeling annoyed, he didn't even remember today was that day up until some seconds before Vic entered their room. February 14 isn't Valentine's Day anymore to him anyway, it celebrates something much deeper and important now.

It must be the ultimate cliché, to have your anniversary date be the same as Valentine's Day, but Kellin's become acquainted with clichés, he's embraced that sometimes life just becomes one, even when you don't feel like it's even possible. He's managed to look past the fact and he decided not to ever let it bother him. What is Valentine's Day anyway, right? This date was now a way to celebrate their love for each other, not because of some dumb society-invented holiday, but because of the moment that changed it all for them.

He wonders what Vic thinks about it though, so that's why he asks him.

"Aren't you going to..." He says nonchalantly, taking one last bite of omelet. "Mention the other thing?"

Vic looks at him and narrows his eyes, he knows what Kellin is hinting at and he won't fall for it. He's known about his hatred for the day ever since they met, so there is no way he's going to ever say happy Valentine's Day to Kellin, ever.

But, as always, he really enjoys teasing him, so he says, "what other thing?"

Kellin meets his eyes and deadpans. "You know what other thing Victor."

Vic chuckles and shakes his head, "nope, don't know what you're talking about."

And then Kellin realizes what he's playing at and rolls his eyes playfully. Vic gives a warm smile. He removes the tray with the finished food to a side and sits closer to him.

"You actually kissed me on your favorite day," he chuckles again and reaches for Kellin's hands. "That's on you, Kells."

Kellin rubs his fingers against Vic's and smirks, "I mean... someone had to eventually, right?"

Vic chuckles and nods, "about time you did."

Kellin gasps and slaps his hands, laughing along with him. "You could've done it too, you know. Any day, any time."

Vic grins and shakes his head, "no I couldn't." He takes his boyfriend's hands again and plays with his fingers. "You would've freaked out so much."

"I wouldn't have!" Kellin exclaims and Vic laughs.

"Yes you would love."

Kellin pouts and looks down and Vic gets all warm inside because that's just the cutest thing ever.

"You should be glad I lost my mind for five seconds, then." He mumbles as Vic interlaces their hands together.

"Trust me, I am."

Kellin smiles as he watches his hands interlock with Vic's. He never thought he would ever get to be with Vic this way and he's eternally grateful to whatever force up there that made this possible in the first place.

"I love you," he says quietly, looking from their hands to his eyes. Every time he says it, he feels his whole body fill with warmth and joy and it just feels so right, like those words were created for only him to say to Vic anytime he could.

"I love you too, Kells." Vic smiles too and kisses his hand. "So much."

Kellin leans in and kisses Vic softly, he lets go of his hands and lifts them to run them across Vic's hair and cheeks. Their lips move softly in sync with each other and Kellin pulls him closer, making Vic sit on his knees. The older boy pushes Kellin all the way until he's completely on top of him and they make out until they're out of breath.

"Let's stay in bed all day," Kellin whispers and slides a lock of Vic's hair behind his ear.

Vic pecks him on the lips, "As much as I would like to, I have plans for us." He says and Kellin pouts again. "We have a lot to do today so be ready," he winks and gets out of the bed. "Lots of romantic stuff waiting for us."

"Oh, come on," Kellin laughs and sits up. He sees Vic run to their bathroom and he stands up too, only to notice all the petals on the floor that are coming out of it. He can't believe it. Vic seriously went all the way romantic. He walks towards it, loving the scent the flowers are giving the room.

"Holy shit," he gasps when he sees their bathroom lit up with tons of candles, the petals forming a path all the way to their bathtub. Vic is standing beside it, watching it fill up with up water. He notices Kellin standing by the door and smiles.

"Second plan of the day," he says as he takes off his shirt. "Super romantic and relaxing joint bath."

Kellin grins and walks up to him, discarding his shirt in the process too.

"Best day ever," he says and they both take the rest of their clothes off to get into the bubbly water.

"I love your ideas," he groans happily as Vic massages his shoulders.

He's sitting in between Vic's legs, his back to his chest, foam covering every inch of the water around them. The light from the candles gives the room such an intimate feeling, Kellin senses that familiar warmness fill him whole as he closes his eyes and enjoys this moment.

He loves to feel Vic so close to him, like there shouldn't be any space between them at all, like it wouldn't feel right otherwise, like this is the only way he'll ever feel completely okay. With his tan skin melting with his own, the gentle touch of his fingers on his skin, his warm breath ghosting over his neck.

"And I love you," Vic whispers and kisses him there, making Kellin smile and sigh in relaxation. This is perfect. Completely perfect. He can't wait for the rest of their day, the rest of their lives.

Kellin Quinn hates a lot of things.

The mental list he has of all the things he hates just gets longer every day. However, there's one thing he doesn't hate. Someone, to be more precise.

Someone that could never hate anything, or anyone, for any reason at all. Someone that's always there for him no matter what messes he gets himself into. Someone who cares enough to go chase after him when he's lost, when he wants to lose himself. Someone that sees all that's good in the world, even in him. Someone who gives him hope that the future is actually bright and not a huge storm waiting to bring him down. Someone that would do anything for him and someone he would do anything for. Someone he fell in love with, without even realizing he was falling in love in the first place...

There might be a lot of things that Kellin hates, but there's only one person Kellin loves, and that person is Vic Fuentes.
