Chapter 13- Free
Clairs POV
It's been over a week since Aiden and I had that moment in the cafeteria. Today I actually went the entire day without thinking about him. I'd say I'm making good progress.
"Hey Clair wait up!" I turn around and am almost knocked over by Dean.
"Hi Dean." I know we used to be friends but after what he overheard the other day I've kind of been avoiding having this awkward conversation.
"Would you like to go out with me on Saturday ?"
"Um.. huh.. I.. what?" Did he seriously just ask me out?
"I'll take that as a yes." He starts walking backwards towards his car.
"No wait Dean I can't." As much as I would love to go out with Dean or any guy for that matter I don't think I'm there yet.
"Oh come on I know you're not busy."
"Whats that supposed to mean?"
"Clair we used to hang out I know what you do every Saturday." Well that sounded creepy.
"Thats kind of weird Dean."
"You know what I meant. Just go out with me Saturday you wont regret it."
"I can't I'm sorry." I get in my car before he can say anything else.
I can't believe I just turned down the Dean Middleton. No one turns down Dean. I mean seriously he's the hottest guy at our school. When word gets out that I turned him down everyone will surely go back to hating me. Talk about being the laughing stock of the school.
***
Today was day two of successfully not thinking about Aiden, as for avoiding Dean, that didn't go so well. He came and sat with Lucy and me during lunch. It was so awkward for the first two minutes until his friends joined him. He thankfully didn't bring up the date thing but he kept giving me these looks as if he was waiting for something. Probably for me to beg him to take me on a date, which I was this close to doing, just kidding I'm not that desperate. However having lunch with him and his friends was actually a lot of fun and maybe might have made me want to go out on a date with him. Although if he asked I'd probably still say no.
I had just finished putting my things in my locker when I feel someone standing behind me.
"So I was thinking I'd pick you up at around ten on Saturday."
"Saturday? Whats going on on Saturday?" I knew that was the day that he wanted to go on a date but if I remember correctly I said no.
"We are going on a date."
"Dean are you forgetting the fact that I told you no."
"Oh I remember I'm just not taking no as an answer." Of course he's not, this guy has never been told no a day in his life.
"Dean..."
"Look Clair I know you're worried about using me for some reason, I overheard you last Monday in the cafeteria, and I don't need to know why, what ever happened between you and Aiden it's none of my business, just go on a date with me? Please."
"Dean I can't I'm sorry." I slammed my locker and ran to my car. I actually ran from Dean Middleton, what is wrong with me? I should say yes but I know I'll hurt him and I can't do that, he's actually one of the good guys. Although he says he doesn't care what happened with Aiden so maybe he's not afraid of me hurting him, or he doesn't know how messed up I really am, or he's not really that into me, ugh I need a guys opinion on this. Times like this I'm so thankful for Josh. He answers on the first ring like always.
"Hey Clair Bear."
"Hi Joshy."
"Ugh I told you to never call me that."
"And I told you to never call me Clair Bear so..."
"Whatever thats not happening, how did your day go?"
"Good but thats actually why I'm calling I need your advice on something."
"Well you know I'm always here to help so lets hear it."
"Ok so last Saturday night, well Sunday morning really it was like 2 A.M, but anyways Aiden was at my house when I got home and we got into a huge fight. He tried talking to me, you know more lies all of the usual and I was just so fed up and I kind of went off on him and told him that I was done." I paused to catch my breath. "Josh that was the first time I said it and actually meant it. On Sunday I gave myself a huge pep talk and on Monday when I saw him I didn't feel that, that longing like I usually do. I spent the last week getting over him and for once I think I'm making progress."
"Wait why are you just now telling me if this happened over a week ago?" He sounded a bit angry for some reason.
"Because Aiden is a bad subject for us to talk about, and I didn't want to tell you until it was real. I always say that I'm going to move on but I never can."
"And now its real? You're over him?"
"Not exactly, I'm not even close to being over him but for the first time I feel like I'm actually taking steps in the right direction."
"Clair... Wow... Thats awesome. I gotta say it's about damn time."
"Yeah I feel so, I don't know free, its liberating."
"You should feel free, you're young, and talented, and beautiful, you have the whole world waiting for you. You are way to good to be hung up on a guy that doesn't know what your worth."
"Being free is an amazing feeling, I feel like I should do so many things."
"Like what?"
"I don't even know, like maybe go to a party, get drunk, go on a date where the guy actually likes me, I just know I don't want to spend my last year of high school like I did the last three."
"Go out on a date huh?"
"Yeah thats actually what I need your advice on. Do you remember Dean Middleton? He's in my grade, well he asked me out and at first I said no because I didn't want to feel like I was just using him to get over Aiden, but now I think it might be good to go out on a date."
"Go out on a date yes, but not with Dean thats for sure."
"Why, whats wrong with Dean?"
"He's just I don't know, I just find it weird that he's never had a girlfriend."
"Well it's just a date Josh, it's not like I'm going to fall in love with him, although with my reputation who knows."
"Please don't fall in love with him I can't...."
"Hey Josh I gotta go I just got home and Luke and Addison are fighting I'll talk to you later."
"Clair wait I...."
THE END!!!!
*Authors note: Totally kidding this story is only half way done, I pretty much have most of the chapters written at this point or at least a basic outline of what I want to happen in each chapter, so the updates should be faster now. By the way that whole thing about how it just ended in the middle of Josh saying that could just be simple Clair hanging up the phone or it could mean something much worse. Any theories???? Comment away!!! Hope you are enjoying the story as much as I am enjoying writing it. - Chels
