Chapter 6~Never Stop Moving
My math teacher-I forgot his name-droned on about some sort of math concept. I was working on the work sheet he handed me. The only reason I had no idea what he was talking about was because I already knew what I was doing. This stuff is child's play. I did nod every once in a while to make it look like I was paying attention.
Just as he finished talking, I handed him the sheet. His eyes widened, but he glanced over the paper to make sure it was done.
Woah, he mouthed. Then he stood up. "That's your last lesson of the day," he said, gesturing for me to stand up. "You are free to do whatever you want. The students are in the rec room."
I nod my thanks and exited the room.
I glanced at my wrist and realized that it had been a couple of days since I had last called Sonic. I should probably do it soon, so I don't worry him.
I sped walked to my room. I have never been so happy that I didn't have to share a room.
I opened the door and walked in, tense until I realized that I was alone. Maybe students have to clean their own rooms instead of someone doing it for them. I hope so.
I took off my backpack and dumped it on the bed. I was given the backpack to hold all of my books, instead of having to rush back to my room each time classes switched.
I opened the drawer, and sighed in relief, glad that the Chaos Emeralds were still there. I might be acting paranoid, but I don't trust anyone in this world to handle them. I have no idea what the effects would be to the people here.
I sat down on the bed and pressed a few buttons on my communicator watch.
"Hey Tails." I could hear Sonic breath a sigh in relief.
"Sorry I hadn't called in a couple of days. I had been pretty busy, but I'm free now."
"Good. Have you made any progress on finding the Chaos Emeralds?"
"I have managed to find one more, but I'm pretty sure the rest aren't anywhere near the school. I might have to go to travel to the nearest city, and even then, there's no guarantee that the rest are there."
Sonic was silent. I could tell he was still angry with Dr. Eggman, even though his voice gave no indication that he was. I just knew Sonic that well.
"Don't worry," I finally broke the silence. "I'll be home in no time."
I could hear Sonic let out a long breath. "I know... I... I just wish I was there with you. I should be!"
"You can't steal all of the adventures," I said jokingly, hoping that will calm him down.
After another moment of silence, Sonic spoke up again. "I have to go now. Call me back soon, alright?"
"Yeah," I said quietly. "I'll try."
A buzz came from the watch, indicating the call ended. I slumped against the wall. I was only here a few days, and I can't wait to get back to him. But where can I find the Chaos Emeralds?
~•~•~
I suddenly jolted awake.
"Huh?" I looked around confused. Then I remembered where I was. "Oh yeah..."
I had accidentally fallen asleep while working on Eggman's machine. I think I understand it better than I did before, but now it seems even more likely that I need the Chaos Emeralds to power it.
I checked my watch. It was only 4:30. I still had time before dinner.
Earlier, I had eaten lunch with Cosmo. Throughout lunch, I could feel eyes watching me. And it wasn't just the students. I couldn't find anyone watching me. The weird thing was, it felt like two people were watching me.
I had figured Shadow was one of the people watching me, mostly because of the incident with him after I met him. But, who else would've been watching me? I didn't see anyone.
I stood up. My legs were feeling kind of cramped, so it would be good to go for a walk.
After hiding the machine, I walked out of my room and started to head outside.
I passed a few people on the way, like Sticks. She still wouldn't trust me, thinking I was an alien. Well, I guess that technically I was.
I went straight to the fence and slowly walked around it.
"How am I going to find the Chaos Emeralds?" I murmured to myself. Not only am I not allowed to leave the school without looking suspicious, but I don't even have an idea on where to look!
I sighed before I realized something. I could use my Miles Electric to help me find them! I've done it before, so what's stopping me from doing it now? "I'm such an idiot," I face palmed. Then I ran back towards the school.
I went to my room as quickly as o could. Once there, I pulled out my sweater, searching each pocket frantically.
"Whew," I sighed in relief, pulling out my Miles Electric. I was lucky it was here.
I turned it on, and went straight to where I needed to go.
"What the...?" I looked at it confused. It was detecting three emeralds in the school, not just the two I found. I'll have to sneak out again to find it.
I checked my watch again. It was almost time for dinner. I had accidentally spent more time outside than planned. Still, at least I have a plan.
I walked out of my room, looking for Cosmo. I had promised we would be eating together.
I saw her down the hall. My mind raced, jumping between the Chaos Emeralds and Cosmo.
Maybe I should enjoy being around here while I still could...
