Forty

It took Amanda only a few weeks to gain back her lost memory. She was able to find herself a medical consult before anybody notices her odd behavior.

It turned out that she had a retrograde amnesia. The type where the brain has the inability to retrieve information that was acquired before a particular date, usually the date of an accident or operation.

Thankfully, she was able to recover sooner than she expected though there are still bits and pieces which she doesn't remember. But, all in all, most of her memories returned. Especially, the reason why she had the accident.

Amanda's anger fumed and her hands balled into fists when she remembered how it felt so that one of her closest friends betrayed her of the truth.

She still has no idea why Romeo, her creepy neighbor, and Jessica were together in one place. And Jessica? How come she wasn't as perky as she used to be? Did she have some identity crisis or just plain toying with her feelings?

Amanda gave her trust to her friend  and yet, there are things she doesn't know about her. Or him.

Was Romeo stalking her? How are the two related?

Amanda stared at the house in front of her. Still undecided whether to knock or just enter without notice, she blew out a breath.

She noticed that the house was silent as she took a step towards it. Quietly, she closed the gate.

It can be seen from the window if someone is inside, hence, she was able to enter it freely.

The entire house was quiet and Amanda did not waste her time looking around it hoping to find the connection and truth between the two guys. She knew the risk of getting inside but she also believes that they will not hurt her.

She glanced at the clock as it reads 10:30. She made her way to the kitchen and found a tidy sink and there were even fruits sitting on the kitchen island.

The ticking of the clock sounds like music to her ears as her fingers traced the beautiful ceramic display on the mini-lounge located at the far end  corner of the dining table.

Curiosity found her system when she noticed a door beside it. She hesitated for a bit but pushed it open.

Inside was a beautifully orchestrated grand piano and a guitar leaning on its stand. Music sheets were neatly placed on top of the piano as if somebody just played it.

Amanda, satisfied with what she saw, exited the room. She looked at the stairs leading to the rooms of the guys and bravely went up.

When she was on the second floor, there were three doors that welcomed her. Two doors were painted blue and only one was painted black.

Taking a deep breath, she held the doorknob of the blue door on her right but it was locked. She tried wiggling it again but to no avail.

Turning to the door on her left, she turned the knob and it opened. Amanda smiled triumphantly.

Gently stepping inside, she marveled at the beautiful arrangement of the wallpapers. Black and blue seemed to be the room's motif. Starry sky at the ceiling and black on the accessories like chair, study table and even the wardrobe cabinet.

A slim android television proudly stood across the bed as if it was waiting for his majesty to turn it on. Aircondition  was placed at the topmost part of the wall beside the window adjacent to the bed.

What caught Amanda's eyes was the corner of the paper coming out of the drawer under the study table.

Curious as she already is, Amanda went towards it and pulled out the drawer. She neatly flattened it out before placing it back to close it but it just wouldn't budge.

"Bakit ba ayaw mong masara?" Amanda frowned and pulled the drawer out again.

She heard a sound and found a wooden box inside. She suddenly remembered her own inside her room.

Frowning, she opened it and found pictures of four kids at a familiar playground happily smiling in front of the camera.

Amanda's eyes widened in realization that it was the exact same picture she has with her childhood friends.

She turned the picture and read the writing at th back.

December 12, 2001

The picture was taken on her eight birthday at the orphanage. This was exactly fifteen years ago.

In two months time, Amanda will be turning twenty six.

Is it possible that Toniboy whom she has no idea what happened to him after almost a decade is Jessica?

Is that the reason why Romeo and Toniboy were fighting? Does Romeo  know about Jessica's real identity?

Unbeknownst to Amanda, Romeo was on his way to his house forgetting about a certain document who seems oblivious to the fact that Toniboy was trailing him too. They were exactly thirty minutes away from each other.

Amanda returned the wooden box inside the drawer and managed to snap a picture from her cellphone of Toniboy's copy. She was about to close the drawer when she caught a glimpse of the paper indicating the acquisition of a land title.

Deed of Donation of a Portion of a Land

Amanda skimmed the document and gasped when she came across Happy Smiles Orphanage.

Jesstoni Del Mundo
Romeo Buenconsejo

Anger resumed her system again and snapped another photo of it before returning it to its place.

Amanda made sure to return everything to its proper place before leaving the room.

She was about to step out when she heard the car being parked into the large garage.

Without having second thoughts, Amanda immediately closed the door and frantically looked for a place to hide herself.

She remembered the room with a black door between the blue rooms which she had entered earlier.

Thankfully, the room with a black door was open and Amanda managed to let herself in.

Amanda heard loud voices from the garage and assumed Toniboy drove with Romeo also.

Amanda heard them entering the living room and clinking of glass probably bottles of liquor being placed inside a refrigerator.

Amanda struggled stepping back from the door and muffled her scream of surprise when she saw who was inside the room with her.
