Twenty two
It's not the standard for witnesses to testify. If anything, from what I learned growing up in a family of law enforcers and spending my youth in police stations, it was their given right to say a simple 'No'. If the court had enough evidence to clear the witness.
For me, today, I was given no choice in the matter. I was the one that had refused to back down, from facing Perry smith. That is where I ended up being seated at a witness stand, Lucifer sat before me. Charlotte had caught me in the hallway, of the court house, pretending she cared for my mental health and the fact it's not looking good for the case against Mr smith.
I called her out on her referring to me as a lost little girl, who is up against something bigger than I could handle undermining the strength I had. I'm way stronger than she thinks i am. I didn't need to her to tell what I can and cannot do. Court was proceeding, at the usual speed it would, and Charlotte arises out of her place at her table. Eyes from the court were focused on me, awaiting for me to break under pressure.
" Officer decker, Lucifer Morningstar is your partner, correct?" She inquires, knowing well enough of his status to me and the precinct is, eyeing me down.
" It has come to attention he was originally believed to be your aunt, Sorry I correct detective decker, supposed partner but ultimately switched sides and decided he wish to be yours. Which I find intriguing. You have a little over a year, in the academy and at the LAPD, with no prior experience. Yet, he chose to be your partner when he could have just as easily chosen to be detective deckers."
'I see what she is trying to do here.' I thought, holding my fists under the bench. ' Control yourself.' I can't let her cynicism affect me and how I approach this case.
" That's right, miss Richards. Lucifer is my partner, he is actually a civilian consultant, which's part of the precinct at LAPD. We work well together. I think rather highly of him."
I truthfully said.
" I don't understand, how the amount of years I have been in the force correlates to this trial. Is there a question that you'd like to ask?"
I shouldn't smart mouth her but her presence was irritating me.
" Yes, apologises, miss decker. I just want wish to know what Lucifer is like at his job? Is he as reliable as I hear? Does he add to the job well? I mean of course if he wasn't he wouldn't be on the job."
Charlotte cranes her head towards me as she calculatedly strides up, leaving a path of deceit in her path. With each step she takes, it is as if she is challenging me to make a move.
" He understands people, to a level of where he can personally make anyone express their desires to him. It comes in handy, when there's a difficult situation or person that refuse to do a simple request."
I answered, it's the half way truth and not an entire lie. He could get people to confess. Aunt Chloe, who's situated beside a smiling Lucifer, couldn't help but slightly glare at Charlotte for her unconventional questions.
" And in addition to that, I assume he's studied law enforcement?"
" He has no prior knowledge, or experience, of working in police enforcement but we all gotta start somewhere. Don't we?"
Earl, I had learned his name after he introduce himself to me on lunch break, did subtle nods of enforcing courage mouthing 'Keep going'. It would be stupid of Charlotte, to continue doing these charades when she is just going on about what she had learnt in her time here. This'll be all over before I knew it.
" But he has a professional background which is somehow relevant to law enforcement? No? That would mean he has unlawfully obtained a job, which takes extensive background checks, and he somehow slithered his way into this job without so much as a second glance. From the very law enforcement officers in charge."
How ironic. I raised my left eye brow, though it was caught by Lucifer who was also smirking at how the idiocy of charlotte's words were.
" I do know he owns a club. But that is entirely up for debate on whether that is relevant or not. I am sure you've been to plenty of clubs in your lifetime."
" Okay, continuing on from what I was saying. I bet his previous job was more of a relevance, than his role as a simple civilian consultant for the LAPD. Right?"
Leaning in the wooden chair of the stand, my legs cross over one another, a smug expression of sardonic laughter silently left my mouth but I was careful to not let anyone hear it. Expect it was by Lucifer.
" Lucifer did have another job. I discreetly remember him mentioning he was the king of hell.."
I pretend to show confusion, for the court, and fake concern when Charlotte starts to choke and gag on her glass of water.
" Then yes. He is a mastermind of punishing the bad guys. He does the job well, Miss Richards. I don't doubt him for a second."
Got you. Judge Estrada did a briefed glance at me, faintly humming at the sound of chuckles.
" I'm confused. Are you suggesting, to me and the court, that Lucifer is delusional? That he's lying to you, and to everyone, and that he's the king of hell?" Charlotte pondered on her own question, not trusting the truth that I'm gonna say, slightly glaring at me. I'm not intimidated.
" Lucifer is many things, Miss Richards, but he is definitely not a liar. Unlike some people who pretend, and impersonate others, Lucifer is the one man in my life besides my uncle, detective Espinoza, that I can rely on who tells the truth. I was first on scene, with detective decker, and truthfully I know I shouldn't have been on the scene, that day."
I inhaled, smelling each dust shards of the decaying wood bench and the sun rays of radiation from the sun.
" My aunt Chloe or should I say detective decker, was the one to try and stop me from coming to the scene. But I insisted on joining her despite knowing there would be a conflict of interest."
For my next words, I face Lucifer himself as he remained carefully watching me. Boring into his hauntingly, beautiful, eyes that shadowed how he candidly felt was intimidating however I have come to fact I've grown fond, of how he looks at me. I felt seen when I'm with him. He faintly smiles.
" Lucifer Morningstar is, if not the greatest person, the best partner any girl or guy can have. I wouldn't have it another way. He Changed my life. I don't where I would be if I didn't meet him, when I did." My life didn't have a definite meaning, to it, before meeting Lucifer. " And I hope he can trust me, and count on me, as much as I count on him."
Lucifer appeared touched by my statement. He had leaned over, just a little to stare into both my eyes and my face for any slight change but when he saw I was telling the truth there was a emotion I could have sworn I am imagining. A look of Love. It couldn't be though.
" Your honour, we request the jury be instructed to disregard officer Elisabetta entire testimony." Earl countered, standing up, which I understood to dismiss charlottes unlawful act of questioning about Lucifers background. He nodded at me, indicating I did a good job with answering questions.
" We'll take a ten minute recess."
Estrada said, making her verdict clear and slams her gravel to make her point. Jurors, along with a whole big percentage of the courtroom audience, are to decide the verdict. I exhaled, with all of this seemingly over I had a feeling Perry smith was going to walk out of this a free man.
Reporters were outside of the courthouse, each waiting on the renowned warden framed with killing a officer of the law, and I couldn't help but stare in disdain at the idea he was getting a shot of fame. The world is as horrible as it can be. 'Oh shoot. Here comes the cameras.'
I said, mentally groaning, as Perry smith passed and I hear reporters asking questions directed at me.
' I am out of here.'
Dad, Uncle Dan, Aunt Chloe with my grandma were all murmuring among themselves talking about the case and uncle Dan had a hand out for me to take.
" Let's go, Honey bee. Trixie is wanting to see her big sister, it's been a little while since you both got to properly get to have a day together."
Uncle Dan chuckled.
" Sounds good to me."
~•~
Trixie was over the moon to have finally got to see me, it felt like forever ago I moved out of home, even if the last was a little month ago to be exact on Halloween night. She told me her school had her draw a diagram, of a family tree to show and tell who is in her family if it be any siblings or distant cousins.
She added Ana and Aiden along with Amy on it as her 'siblings.' It is honestly a hard choice not to come clean with who they were to her. Aid's reaction made me giggle, he had been flattered by her inclusion. I smiled lightly, at the picture of his face in my mind, stepping out into the main foyer of Lucifers penthouse.
I watched him distractedly bump into me, with a bottle of expensive branded wine in hand. I put a hand on his forearm. The sparks flicker at my contact. " Woah, there."
He stared at me for a split second, realising I was standing in a dim lighted assortment of decorative lights.
" I would ask where you are off too, Luc. But that probably will be an answer I don't want to hear cause if I do I might walk out those elevator doors."
I admittedly giggled, though I was shy.
His stare morphed into a full blown smile, he showed me the wine.
" No, actually. I was on the way to see you. I believe I owe you dinner, my darling."
Lucifer raised a brown paper bag. I could smell the contents inside, which sent an overload of flavourful air in my nose, and that made my stomach grumble. I leaned over, to try and get a closer sniff, but with one shake of his head he grinned. " Let me set us up a little table. And I will put on some music, it will really set us in the mood for this little dinner we're having."
Lucifer had taken time to set two porch seats, facing each other, infront of the view of Los Angeles that overlooked his penthouse view. I listened to all of the night life below, a honk in the distance coming from all of the folks out at night working or coming home from late night rush hour. I lifted my wine cup, crossing both of my ankles at the feeling of the cold tile that made the veranda.
" Okay. Okay. That is quite enough, Luc. Look I know I can't get drunk, it doesn't mean I want to have a lot. I'll be drunk flying instead of driving."
I laughed at my own pun. He grinned, finding my terrible pun short of amusing to match his humour.
" I heard it's hard to get a reservation at this place. You are in luck, that you have this handsome devil, to get all those reservations in spite of the difficulties."
I 'Ah' at his teasing, it was making me giggle at how ridiculous he is acting.
" I hear the fries, at this place, are the Bomb." He impersonated an American accent.
" Oh, yeah, definitely agree with the fries. They are the bees knees of fries."
I popped one fry in my mouth and wink. He laughed out loud, the sound was like music to my ears. Then it all of it came to a silenced standstill. His gaze turned exceptionally monotoned compared to how he usually acted. His hand found its way to mine.
" Ellie, Darling. What you said in the court.."
He quietened his voice, staring and piercing his eyes into my eyes. They say the eyes were a gateway to the soul. A gateway of who one was and how you can tell what they were feeling. It was the truth with Lucifer, as I stared longer in his eyes the more I could see they were shining morosely darker than before. " That was every word of the truth, Lucifer. I meant every word I did say." I said before taking a big inhale in.
This might be the most reckless idea. I know I would eventually come to regret, what I am about to do, this action and it might ruin what relationship I have with Lucifer.
However it is something I won't know until I actually do it.
With Lucifer sceptically inching his head, as if waiting for me to decide to back out of doing it and I would change my mind, forward I slowly move with an anticipation of kissing him.
" Oh, bloody hell, fuck it."
I heard him whisper, I have never heard a swear word like fuck leave out of his mouth, and he put a hand delicately behind my head. Our lips connected. This was my first kiss with Lucifer.
The kiss is something I had to describe in one word, magical. It's cliche but it felt like a kiss straight out of the one scene in Enchanted when Giselle and Robert shared their first one.
Lucifer gently swooped me off my porch chair, setting me on his lap hovering both my legs over the sides to each of his calves.
I swept my hair behind one ear before deepening the kiss. I was inexperienced, with the whole Kissing a boy — No a man. I didn't know how to do it.
I feel relief when Lucifer held my head in one spot, arching my back on an instinct to feel his taut body and muscles under his shirt and did infact let my hand wonder down the buttons of his shirts.
He allowed his reflexes to stop me, I feel his fingers graze my own pulling away, out of breath. He didn't need to breath properly, it was one the traits of being immortal, but it did not stop him from panting as he paused. He is gentle with his words.
" Much as I would like to do that, Darling. You know I wouldn't do that, without your consent, and I know you aren't exactly ready. It was the heat of the moment. Maybe next time, if there is and you'll allow this to happen again."
I rested my head on his shoulder, sighing out in a dramatic relief to the thought of losing my virginity in a heat of the moment but that will have to wait. I creepily smiled, leaning in to his face, crinkling my nose like a bunny rabbit and he smiled cheekily.
" You want to date me. You want to go out with me. Next time? You say?" I giggled, and I feel a hand crepe around my waist. His touch made a feeling of content burn in me.
" Do I get to pick the restaurant? Next time?"
" We will see about that, my darling."
JASMINE SPEAKS;
Yes, I changed the scene. I changed the way it went down, I had to. I couldn't resist it and it felt right to me. I love these two so much, that I wanted them to kiss earlier in the season and I know technically this would alter what is to come but I have a few ideas of what to do with it. Did you catch the reference?
What did you think of the Court room scene?
Lucifer and Ellie's kiss?
