I manage to convince dad to help me track and trace down a private investigator, involved in Dean Coopers off-the-book bank transactions. He was brought in for questioning, which was dad's idea as I am on a time frame to help get a better and stronger case for Lucifer.
I tried my best to hide how stressed out I am feeling, it is not exactly suitable to show how I felt when I am in the interview room in front of a private investigator who can read emotions. I must look like a fool, muttering to myself, and I sat infront of Simon Halbrooks. Our new lead which who was watching me, bemused.
" So, in your file. It says you are the owner of your own PI company, that handles by, and off, the field operatives for whoever can afford to pay you."
" That is correct, officer decker. Built it myself. What? You impressed by it? From the look you are giving me I take it you're either A, shocked by how much I earn or you are trying to figure out why I charge those rates."
Simon chuckled, his hands folded in a way he gives an impression of superiority and is smug. It's not that impressive. " Mr. Cooper i see had made several transactions in the last few weeks and all of them are quite extensive. Six figures. Those are quite hefty, don't you think?"
I state, trying to maintain my composure and wanting to run out of the station to get more help from dad about this case. I couldn't afford to have an error made. " Those payments were off his books, not mine. I'm legit." He shrugged his shoulders answering me. His tone is a little off. He is hiding something. This is all shady. I clicked my ballpoint pen, the repetition of the clicks was irritating Simon. I could see his eyes crinkling. " Could you please stop doing that."
" You say your business, and your clientele, are legitimate. But what I'm failing to understand, here, is why they are hiding their payments?".
He sighed. I waited on him to answer me, and I had an argument ready to make Incase he did not choose to cooperate.
" Look. I understand it must be hard to comprehend this, Officer Ellie, but I take these precautions to protect what an individual pays me to protect. And thats is the one thing I can't tell you. I would be breaking a lot of trust if I did."
Simon explains, cryptically.
" Do you trust your fellow officers? Meaning, I ask, would you know if they'd rat on you, for an extra fee they don't earn, on the dime, the city pays to be a cop? Do you trust them? Hm."
Corruption, amongst other issues in the force, ran rampant in the police force. The system is incredibly flawed, that much I am aware of and he made a good point about dirty cops. There's several I could name. Malcolm Graham was an exemplary choice.
" I know what the dealings is like, when it comes to dirty cops. On a level that is far too personal for me to digress into. I want to know is, how do you.. do your job? I've encountered one other PI, in my line of work."
Reading Simon's body language, he's intrigued by my confession and leaned his torso closer to me.
" You asked the right question. Think of it.. as me being a professional tempter. I'm hired, by people, to find out if their R&D guy would be willing and influenced to sell secrets. Or if a famous couples nanny could be bribed for the kids, they babysit, pictures." Interesting. I just maybe could consider using Simon and how he can find information, about people, to help my case on Eleanor bloom.
" The rest I cannot tell you. Thats privileged information."
The entrance of the interrogation chamber was opened, Dad came in wearing his civilian worn clothes. He held his phone in one hand, a little conflicted. " It's Lucifer, Lil's. There is a report he's thrown an illegal party at Lux." Lucifer, oh no, what he is doing? He's lost his mind.
I got up from the interrogation table, though Simon spoke up raising a finger. As if in school to ask a question.
" Not to sound inappropriate but if I am done being questioned, is it possible I can take a chance and ask if you're okay with wanting to go out for sometime to eat? It will be my treat. No?" Seriously. He's asking if I would go have lunch with him? Dad begins to shake his head, indicating it wouldn't happen.
" Can't blame me for trying."
He laughed, adjusting his seat.
" Let's get to Lux, Nathan. Before it goes down badly."

The music blaring in Lux, and smell of alcohol potent enough I could smell it coming from the outside of Lux, came to a complete standstill. I heard irritated groans partygoers expressed, at the sudden complete silence. My fellow officers had infiltrated into the nightclub, as I arrived, I listen to Lucifers voice ring out. " You are the boys in blue, aren't you? The strippers are not due for another hour." He came into my view. I saw he had tried to use a wad of money, trying to bribe his way out the oncoming arrest.
His eyes shifted, as I approached with Nathan in close quarters Incase everything went wrong and I hoped it didn't. Lucifers face fell. " It's a.. it's alright. I know him, he'll listen to me. This doesn't need to be a big scene or anything. You can go. I have it from here." The officer, who've I met when I first became a rookie, glanced up at Lucifer then to me. As if to ask if I was sure.
" You don't need to be here, thank you though. I promise." He nods before he directs each and every other on-site officer, on the force, out of the place. The mood changes however still just a little tense. I turned to Lucifer and he is left stumped on why I was here. I put my hand up, a smile crept onto my lips which gave away my intentions. " Turn the music up, Luc. It's dead in here." His eyes visibly brighten and came to life. I heard dad in the back chuckling loudly.
" You heard the young lady, Turn up the music in here!" Lucifer exclaimed and cheers of relief flood the place. A spot light directs a beam of florescent lighting on the surface of my head, I never rid of my smile that widens at Lucifer as he picked me up. He spun us on the spot. " So this means you are on my side? and you aren't here, with the Calvary, to arrest me?" He asked while placing me back on the floor. He did not once let go of me however. " Right?"
" Lucifer. This place."
I looked around Lux, the oddest place where one feels free of life's limits and where you could come to let go of what the responsibilities they had momentarily.
" This's your home. I've always been on your side. You should know that, by now. I'm offended, really. Hasn't the past proved that."
Lucifer had on an expression of admiration, it was intensely and deeply evident in his dark eyes. I realised, now, his hands were holding me tightly in place. " Well if you are staying, you Must join me on the dance floor. You are the guest of honour, for tonight!"
My hand is strung together with a hand, that belonged to Lucifer as he drags me to the dance floor even with my protesting of being a bad dancer.
In the middle of the room, I take notice of how every single person and or girl is dressed appropriate for the night except for me. ' Well I wasn't planning on dancing but here we are.'
Lucifer is wriggling his arms, dancing with the beat of 'Should I stay or should I go?' Blaring, I giggled when he interlaced our fingers and we both had zero care in the world as we danced. I truely felt free when I was around Lucifer, the weight of my crumbling heart being broken by the grievances of my past slowly mending into a much fuller one each second I'm around him.
I rested my head in the crook of his shoulder, inhaling his scent. He felt like home. Even if I didn't understand why. The goddesses words I tried to repress were creeping back. His mate. His soul mate.
Speaking of the goddess, it has been a few weeks since our last encounter. The way I wanted it to stay, as shes displeased with my intervention and refusal to join her. I have a sinking intuition that she hasn't gave up her endeavours. I have a feeling it's nothing good.
I'll just enjoy this evening and worry more of it later on.

' I have the worst luck when it came to cases.' I all but think, throwing my head back groaning. Simon, the private investigator, I interviewed turned out to be a hired professional, who had been paid by Dean Cooper, to wreck Eric and Christi's marriage. Mr. Cooper didn't like that the fact Christi, I originally thought she was his girlfriend, and Simon had tested her loyalty to her husband. Lucifer was pissed off, that he would justify his actions as his line of work.
Speaking of Eric I was back at his home, with Lucifer, hoping for clarification on the whole case. His side of the story. Despite my strong, personal, feelings about him. Lucifer left the door open for me, I walked in pretending that I was bowing my head at his gentlemanly action.
" Mr. Cooper, hello again. I apologise, about our intrusion, we have a few more things we'd like to ask you about you and your fiancé. If she can vouch for your whereabouts and where you were the morning your father was killed?"
He is more conscious than last time. Which is a good sign, meaning he can actively tell us his side of what happened.
" No, she was looking at venues for the wedding. Why?"
Well that's a pretty decent hole in the timeline. Something I couldn't shake was the house felt colder. It was unwelcoming. I listened to the jingle of jewels, from bracelets, and Christ was coming back to Eric. A glass water jug in her hold for Eric.
" What is this? I thought Eric had been cleared of his charges."
" Yes, well that is because we know it was you in fact who killed your father-in-law. Aren't we right or are we right, Christi? Because of Eric's dear old dad creating fake evidence, showing off you being unfaithful to your soon to be the love of your short human life." Lucifer stated, I popped my hip out as the colour from Christi's face drained out in mortification. " Hate to say I am well impressed. You almost got away with it." Lucifer added on, adding fuel to the fire.
" No. it wasn't her. It was me, he showed me the evidence and I knew it was faked. Christi.. she would never.. and the fact he would stoop so low. I couldn't help myself."
Eric's heart rate machine was increasing, his stress levels were at a high because of the confession. If that's isn't an indication of love then I don't know what is. Taking the fall for your fiancé.
" No. Eric, it's alright. I did.. I did it. Not Eric."
Well this is turning out to be the most dramatic He said she said I've witnessed.
" Look. To save us all the hassle of this, frankly dramatic, mess. I am just going to say is if you two are confessing to this, both of you will most likely end up in jail. Right? Understand?"
I'm ready to leave now. I cannot for the life of me take this serious. Off to jail they go, then.

Coming back to Lux, smiling ear to ear with the intention of revealing the surprise research I did for Lucifer on the entire building, I found him relaxing under an ambience of soft mellow jazz seated at his piano.
" You know smoking is a real bad habit. You should stop now before it gets worse. Oh, wait, I forgot who I was talking to."
I chuckled at how ironic I sounded. He was the devil for crying out loud. He isn't hurt by it.
He distinguished the cigarette, quick.
" Well, I thought to myself, why not have one last night where I can enjoy the toxins of smoking. And a final drink in the one place that it's oh socially acceptable."
He is reluctant with his approach of humour, breaking the silence with a laugh. " I thought I'd say my last goodbyes my way."
" I thought this was worth fighting for, Luc. It's your home." I pointed out his own words. " the whole reason and lesson, of today, was that in any given situation you fight for what you love. Like Lux. This is worth fighting for, Lucifer." I placed, and rested, both of my arms on the top of Lucifers grand piano. Gazing sadly at him.
" Well. Darling, it occurred to me that much as I love this place, I can always build a new one. I mean it wasn't the walls that made it home.." I nodded, understanding where he was going with his analysis.
'The people. The people are who make a home, a home.' Which is true. " The people."
" Yes. Well, the women. I jest, of course, but I know they will flock anywhere that I go and be that as it may, I attract them quite easily." He joked, trying to avoid the fact I was glaring but playfully. " Come. Don't just stand there, Ellie. I saved you a space here beside me. Look."
" Well. This is awkward, then. And sorta makes all of this anti-climactic." I opened the blue file I had on hand. Eyes twinkling in mischief.
" I went to the Los Angeles historian offices and I found out there are historical records, that show Lux has been named a heritage site by the county. Yeah I did some Thorough researching and well.."
In response to my statement, Lucifer takes the file in disbelief of what I had done for the bar.
" I might or might not have inspired the city council, and Charm them. Using my inner Lucifer charisma. Hm."
I toss my hair, feigning the sensual look of seduction Lucifer uses when he did his Power of suggestion and desire. " You can thank me, later on." I winked, giggling. " But to be serious here, Lux is now protected. No one can touch it or even think about bulldozing it down for any reason."
My smile wobbled, faltering as I see a touched expression shadow on Lucifers face. It appeared he wasn't expecting me to do this for him.
" You saved my home, Ellie." He said, his voice thankful. " I don't know what to say, darling. I am usually the one doing favours. It's never at all reciprocated, and the favours aren't regular returned. If not at all."
I would do anything for Lucifer. I couldn't let him lose the one place he called home. Especially to someone as deviant as Eleanor bloom. I put my hand on his knee.
" Well. I am your best friend after all. It's what I do." The word sounded foreign of me to say. I feel like it was More than just the feelings that a friend shared, when it came to Lucifer and I. " Besides." I shyly laughed, embarrassed I will admit this. " This place has grown on me. I like coming here, breaking out of my shell and the hot guys here are good to look at. I'm joking."
I chuckled when he disapprovingly shook his head, at the mention of 'Hot Guys.'
" Hey, if you can have all of those beautiful women on your arm. I can peak all I want, Luc. Did I tell you how Simon tried to ask me on a date?"
He almost shattered his whiskey glass, the minute I uttered the word 'Date'.
" He did WHAT?! That conniving son of a bi.."
" Lucifer. Don't you finish that sentence.."
JASMINE SPEAKS;
Ellie is getting more and more sassier. I loved writing her parts in this book, so much.
Her & Lucifer are by far the greatest couple I've done. He gets jealous so easy, when it comes to Ellie & the fact other men/boys are attracted to her.
He's gotta stop playing around with her smh.
What did you think of their little moments?
