Relaxation can range from doing hot yoga, to a nice trip on the beach soaking up the sun. But I don't fall into those definitions, Nope. Instead I am a crime scene, staring down Lucifer as he sat on a black and gold throne that overlooked the active mansion full of detectives. I haven't got one single relax day since I've met Lucifer.
" Don't be making me repeat myself, Lucifer. For the last time, get out of the chair. Please we have a job to do." He insists on being the biggest pain in the ass to me. " Move it. Now."
I sound like a mother scolding her over grown man child, which he's acting like. I throw both hands up, giving up on getting him out of the damn chair.
" join me when you're ready then. Ugh."
" Come on, Ellie, Darling. It's been ages since I've sat in a throne."
Lucifer made a point to say, while his rushing steps followed behind me, and I hum watching my footing while all of staircase winding down, in a slope, came to an end.
" There's lots of personality here. Isn't there? Appalling personality, but quantity over quality, I suppose. You know speaking of thrones, darling, one of these I have to bring you to hell and you can have a peak at my throne. It's nothing which is of importance but I think you'd like it, Ellie."
Well there is a sentence you don't hear, come out of someone's mouth, everyday. What even is my life coming to?
I sarcastically, and rhetorically, said mentally. Though the thought was there for an instant, thinking of what hell is actually. It was a reality, my reality.
" Genuine medieval knight costume in a bel-air mansion. This mans home was definitely his castle." In the grand scheme of things, I hated to admit this house was built good. Everything extravagant, you think of, is here. Chandeliers, historical artefacts, a grand staircase. ' Not that impressive than Lucifers penthouse. I'll admit.'
" You know if you have questions for me, I will be gladly able to fact check any answer you might've been taught, Darling."
I looked over my shoulder, flicking my head to the on-going crime scene where forensics were chatting about the case, to Lucifer indicating I wanted him to follow me. " Aunt Chloe and my dad are waiting on us, Luc. Let's go. You know how aunt Chloe gets when she gets impatient."
Lucifer gained speed in his strides, as made an effort to keep up with me and eventually went into synchronicity with how I was walking. He stopped though once laying eyes on the victim, Dean Cooper. One of Los Angeles big time real estate owners turned tycoon. He ran the game when he was alive.
" Hang on a second. That's Dean Cooper, the Los Angeles real estate tycoon."
In my personal view of this case, this was likely an insurance pay-out gone wrong in the way I hate to think was possible. " yep. He owned the whole block we're investigating, and he is also responsible for most of the biggest developments the city is currently under as we speak. I wasn't a big fan of his." Lucifer's face was coloured with concern as if Dean, and his death, personally affected him. " what's wrong, Lucifer? You seem troubled with his passing?".
" He is the one that owns the lot Lux is on. He's an abhorrent, deeply unpleasant, man. Well it should be was a deeply unpleasant man. You wouldn't believe the deal I had to strike for my lease. All completely legal, don't worry, Ellie."
'Of course. Yes, he totally got his hands on Lux legally.' I rolled my eyes mentally, but grinned. I look like a total maniac smiling at the scene of a murder. " if somewhat, well, let's just say morally ambiguous." If Dean is dead, would it mean Lux is trouble of being taken over by the state? Lucifer would lose the one place he calls home. 'I can't have that.' I frowned, thinking of how he must feel.
" Well, that moral ambiguity that he was oh so famous for may have finally caught up with him. Ella, cause of death?" Aunt Chloe stated, I feel her join my side as she nudged my side so I knew it was her. Deans grey, pale, dead body is hunched over a tray table of vegetables. The opened champagne bottle opened, on the table suggested he was enjoying a feast fit for a royal pain in the ass that he was. ' Karma caught up.'
" Explosive exsanguination from the carotid, punctured by .. this." One small glass shard is extracted out of deans neck, the squelch of the sharp broken piece ejected out his skin made a visible grimace show itself on my face. ' This'll never be easy. Will it?' I chose this job, for the sole purpose I wanted to follow in my families legacy. But the fact is I still get shocked when I see things like this.
" like a champagne flute." Aunt Chloe mutters, slipping on a purple crime scene graded glove, looking for more clues.
" Mmm-hmm. Someone really popped his Cork. You know, like.."
Ella did a little show and tell, acting out someone coming up to her using the shard to lodge into her neck then the sound of a blood splatter followed. Creating an image I couldn't help imagine.
' Oh that is just.. great.'
I groaned, face palming. Lucifer snorts. " You guys, like, the bloods the champagne. Like when you open a bottle, his was.." I waved her off, understanding completely the image she is describing and imitating.
" I got it, I got it, Ella. Goodness you have a real morbid sense of humour. You and maze would be the best of friends, if well... you know maze wasn't maze." if I wasn't the only person who she tolerates. Is what I wanted to add, I've in the past tried to get maze to agree to meet new friends but each time it's failed. They'd be scared off.
" Did you.. did you end up getting some prints for us? The help staff have given their consent and we are currently getting some intel from them 'bout mister cooper."
" Killer wiped it clean." Ella got the dust brush, and finger print powder, out of her carry-on bag which she used to carry her gear. " If you can find any thing, remotely close to what the killer possibly used for the weapon, that will be a great help, Lizzie. Like in the trash bag for a starter."
I was inspecting pieces of the glass shattered, on the table, careful not to touch a single hair of Dean cooper so I wouldn't trigger my gift while mumbling to myself, about how my job would be easier if I didn't feel the pain of each victim. How they died in agony or in sadness. Either way it was horrible.
" What if you glue.. the pieces back together? That way you could.. I don't know get more than a partial print? The full print will be way more helpful and less of a time consuming process. It's just an idea."
Ella, as if a mental light bulb came to life, eyes lit up. " That is a genius idea. Glue wasn't just invented for no reason. Re-assembling would make it much better than wasting time. Good thinking, Lizzie! Can you come and help me? I usually do it alone but this is your idea and like I don't want to steal your Thunder. Plus I want company." Ella, though shy, admitted moving to make space for me. I joined her, crouching.
" I'm fairly certain there are people in hell that being forced to do exactly that right now. It is their own personal hell loop, which you'll most likely have to be prepared, to see once we'll go there, Ellie. Darling."
Lucifer reinstated, his too soon of a pun added in the mixture, and he grinned watching me focus on the glass. He'd hoped I'd react but i wasn't going to give him one or the satisfaction of ignoring my work for him. He grumbled.
" Oh, I was the kind of kid who did jigsaw puzzles, picture-side down. This is nothing new to me. I was more a loner growing up, the type of kid that preferred their own company. Though some of the times it wasn't by choice. Wow, that sounded real pathetic, way to go me and my inability to shut up." Ella scoffed, at her words, hiding her pain behind a smile.
" But, hey. I got Liz now and she is legit my first ever actual friend I've made who actually stuck 'round. So are you, Lucifer."
Lucifers phone buzzes from inside his pocket, in his suit, while I held the top of Ella's hand at her sentimental words. " It's from Maze, Ellie. She says there is trouble at Lux. I am gonna go and see what it is, before she undoubtedly goes and fixes this problem herself. I'll be back, tho! Later."
A problem at Lux? What is going on? I went to ask more about the problem, however Lucifer is already leaving out the brand hallway. But not before he left a little kiss on my head.
I instantly blushed, he had become bolder with his flirtation after the whole Tandem Doctor Linda session. And way bolder in public. " He loves you, Liz. He's just a flirty idiot that can't see it. Don't even try to deny you don't feel the same way. It's so obvious, Dude." Ella stated, I spluttered at her accusation as she smirked. 'In love with Lucifer? No. What? I mean, yeah, I did share an attraction to him. Who hasn't?' I wouldn't know the first thing about love. There hasn't been a time where I had experienced it.
No first love. No silly school girl crush, nothing but the love of my family. That is all I need.
" Let's just get the pieces back together. Ella."
~•~
It's one thing to take aways a person and their livelihood, from them, but to throw it in their faces after is another. Plain petty. Lucifer had informed me Eric Cooper, our main suspect in the case of Deans murder and his son, had now taken possession of Lux. Lucifers home. I don't know why I was feeling enraged, striding up to the building, walking past Lucifer however he did join me with his own disturbed and pissed off face. Though he hid it well.
" Now now, darling. Calm down. I called so you could peacefully join me as a witness, not go full on Angel of wrath, Ellie. Calm down."
" I can't just let this asshole take your home, it isn't right of Eric to march into Lux and claim he owns it. Besides now that I have evidence, I have an excuse to be here to look into." I quip, feeling vengeful. I never did feel this strong, or even knew I would care this much, for Lucifer losing his home. Losing lux. I would be angry if my home was taken from me. The safe haven I made for my family. My kids. " this is unjust."
" Much as I appreciate your passion for justice seeking, darling. I came here because Eric, the little shark, liquidated his father's assets. Only hours after his father's death. As I was telling you, he is after Lux and the building, I tried to get him to tell me his desires but that was too little of a hassle to deal with."
" Lucifer. You could have told me, at the crime scene, literally at the house. I would have went with you and tried to stop Eric. With me, there, you could've gotten leverage. Cause you know, I am a Cop."
I paused walking to catch him by his wrist. The single action alone caused the electrical shock waves to return, stronger than before. It's like each time we touch it gets more intense. He opened then closed his mouth. Before he could get out a word there is a yell then a thunderous sound of a body hitting a car behind us. Slowly I turned my neck around, to the source, and I pursed my lips in a paper thin line at Eric laid deceased body on a cars roof. He was thrown.
" Someone call an ambulance!"
A passerby had shouted, the public got their phones out as the car alarm persisted in ringing. Eric, groaning, barely lifted his head to look at me pleading to me to help him.
'Well he's not so dead after all.'
" Well this case just got Real dark real quick. Don't you think, darling? Just so you know, that wasn't me. Nor you. if we're questioned, we'll just tell them this is what happened."
" Can this day get any more confusing. Let's go and call this in."
~•~
Eric was hospitalised, at his father's house and had his own medical team on board. I'd say it's a bad idea, considering the amount of enemies his father had and who are still at large as they knew of his death. He is handcuffed to his bed, which Lucifer had made a sexual joke about, I for one think he should be strapped down. But that is just me.
" I mean, who leaps from the seventh floor? I say thirteenth is the minimum and this is the man forcing me from my home. He can't even make a proper suicide jump." Eric is in a full, I mean full, body shape cast and had IV fluid in his veins keeping him alive. Personally I think he was being treated too nicely. 'I sound like a total bitch. I don't care, quite frankly.'
" Is this really necessary?"
Eric's girlfriend had rushed over, once she heard of his accident. It was clear to anyone her act was a fake. I rolled my eyes subtly so no one could see me.
" Well, we had witnesses say they clearly saw your Eric Jump from a balcony on his own free will. To be honest, he got what be deserved for trying to take Lucifers home away from him."
" I don't know who you think you are, Little girl, but I don't appreciate your attitude or like, your opinion on who Eric is. He was distraught about his father's death! It doesn't mean he is a killer or makes him one."
She spat her words, eyes narrowed holding Eric by his hand, and I scowled. I'm not in the slightest intimidated by the likes of her.
" So, Shut up."
" Your Eric is not a crystal clean as you hoped, Christi. Evidence point to him engaging in the act of murder, of his father, which doesn't give him a good look. Don't deny it."
I snapped with a heated glare scorched on my face. I'm being a little unprofessional, scratch that a whole lot.
I couldn't allow this to happen. I wanna be out of this place, help Lucifer fight for Lux.
" We live in the same compound. I'm sure DNA is everywhere you look or whatever. You can't actually think Eric killed his own father for the money. That is ridiculous." Christi defended, I shot a quick glance at Lucifer sketching a little devil on Eric's leg cast which I gave a smirk to, but things were tense already so I take the pen.
" Let's not forget Eric's insatiable lust for dear old daddy's cold, hard cash. If he is willing to do something as monstrous as turning me out of my house, then killing his father isn't such a stretch. Is it?" Lucifer says, pouting his lips at the fact he couldn't continue graffitiing Eric's cast. A groan came out of Eric, pained. " Well, it looks like my left foot is trying to speak."
" No money. Dad ran the business into the ground. We were buried in debt. I thought by making emergency sales could save us, but..."
" But what, baby?" Christi cooed, leaning in to better listen to him and his painful breathing. " What is it. Tell us."
" There's nothing left. I'm sorry, I couldn't live with disappointing you."
He was ashamed, big time, for being broke. He wanted to take his life because of the shame.
I would feel guilty, for how I acted, if it weren't for the fact Eric would liquidate something the one thing important to Lucifer, out of his own greed for money.
" Well if that is the case. You could have come to me, instead of doing the ol' swan dive." Lucifer suggested, offering money to a man who had taken his home.
" I can't. The deal is made."
' That was a quick sale. Too quick.' I think, for a second I glance at my hand to find it in a fist, unclenching the tense muscles of my hand. " How could a sale be processed and conducted so fast? Your father, he died only yesterday."
I point out, the inconsistency of the timeline and events not matching. It was all planned out in advanced. Of course, that is the answer for all of this. " baby, is this that deal for all of that property on the strip? There's been this, like, buyer interested in that strip for years. It's the only reasonable thing I can give you. Eric's dad had it all drawn up and then just like let it sit on his desk." Christi explained, rubbing Eric on his hand soothingly. " He wanted to torture the buyer."
" You made the sale straight after your dad was found dead. You heard he died and you went to Lux, to rub it in the face of the one you are now taking it from." I said, strongly, condemning in the way I spoke to Eric.
Lucifer places a hand, on mine, to keep me from leaping on Eric and doing major bodily harm to the rest of his body that had yet to be broken.
" Dad couldn't block it anymore, but I didn't matter. It wasn't enough."
" We don't need to have the money, baby. We have enough already. We have each other."
Christi softly said, gazing into her lovers eyes, and I hated to admit that was kinda sweet but it don't excuse the fact he was a greedy man. It is true as the saying goes, the Apple definitely didn't fall that far from the tree with him. ' The only thing I like about her is how sweet she is. I was wrong to think she was here just for how wealthy Eric is. Now that his father is gone.'
" Seems like I can't blame Eric, now, for buying Lux. Whoever is responsible stood to gain, and achieve whatever victory they now have, from Dean Cooper and his death. Whom is the man or woman that bought Lux? Mr. Cooper?"
" Eleanor Bloom." Eric answered, he painfully shook his head. " I'm sorry, Man. Miss. I didn't want to cause you pain. But business is a rough game to play. I don't regret it." He is a man of contradiction and Lucifer could see through it.
" Let's go talk to miss bloom, shall we, Luc."
~•~
At Eleanor bloom's office, Lucifer and I were met with hostility from miss bloom almost at the start of my interrogation which raised just a few red flags. She is on a warpath and wants to take down everything Dean Cooper owned which includes Lux. I almost lost control over her less than self-appeased attitude of owning the place. Lucifer had to hold me by my waist.
Eleanor did inform of Dean missing out on the payments needed to keep the lot. Which lead a research into his finances.
" Dean Cooper was making large, off-the-books payments and he was hiding them from everyone. Seems like the big time tycoon is even more shadier, than we originally imagined he was." I flip the second, out of a several page long, sheet of his bank statement.
" Could be anything. Drugs. Blackmail. There's no shortage of bad deeds in Dean Coopers life. There are plenty of greedy humans, like him, here in LA. Some are just too good at hiding it from others." Lucifer, drinking from his flask, defeated and not his usual energetic self, said.
" I will run these through the system and we'll see if, maybe, our killer is on the other end."
I say, hoping I could bring a form of anything i can think of being good out of this. Lucifer, not too far from me as we began walking, manage to catch up to my pace. " Wonderful. While you do that, Darling, I am going to make my return to Eleanor blooms office to get my home back."
He said, well actually determinedly stated, and I couldn't disagree with him on the matter but I wanted him to do it the legal way.
" If she will not give it back, her world will be turned into a sphincter-loosening nightmare."
I don't know the meaning of that. However, if it's something sexual then I don't want to.
" Lucifer. I know this hypocritical, coming out of my mouth since I was close twice today but in my defence both were incredibly egotistical, you can't hurt her. You could get in serious, I mean serious, trouble legally."
I concurred my opinion on his future actions, which could have implications that would be irreparable, using a soft tone while talking.
" Please listen."
" then help me, Darling. I appreciate you and the fact you put your work on the line for me, thrice, today but I will be satisfied once I see a pair of handcuffs on her wrist. Arrest her!"
" It's not that easy, Lucifer. You have to listen to me! Eleanor bloom has the law on her side. I want to help you. I really do."
I was on a thin line of wanting to overstep the legal boundaries that were in place, and what I knew was the right move to make without any of the persecution in place. It was a hard call I needed to do. I didn't want to further taint the situation. " Lucifer, I.."
I sighed, as the elevator door rolled to a close. I banged my head on the shaft. The look on both his face and in his eyes I saw, while the doors were closing, broke my heart. ' I need to get all the evidence I can. This has to stop, right now.'
" You'll get your home back. I'll make sure of it, Luc."
JASMINE SPEAKS;
Ellie and Lucifer are so into each other, they're just not sure how to go about those feelings.
It is hard not to just jump right in to the whole ' I love you.' Love confession. At least for Ellie, I plan on her doing it in the final episode of season four following the canon timeline.
We all know Lucifer doesn't say it until more in the later seasons come season like five. It could be changed though depending on what I think the appropriate timing is. Then again I loved the whole admission of love Chloe did in the end, at the last few minutes, so that'll be an easier approach.
What did you think of the whole chapter of her basically being sassy, snapping at the girlfriend and Eric? And her being angry for Lucifer?
