AJ's POV

I craned my neck as I stepped out into the arrival lobby of Suvarnabhumi Airport. I hoped that my parents were not late in picking me up.

"AJ!"

I turned in the direction of my father's voice.

I quickened my footsteps and rushed over to where my parents were waving to me.

I gave both my mom and dad a hug and a kiss.

My father took over my luggage and my mom and I followed him towards the exit and into the parking lot of the airport.

"JJ was not yet home when we left the house to pick you up." my mom informed me even before I could ask why JJ was not with them to meet me at the airport.

"Did he even remember that I was coming home today?" I asked with just a little bit of resentment creeping into my chest.

"I reminded him about it when he called to say that he was going to have dinner with a classmate at the mall," my mother informed me.

"Did he have to do that today of all days?" I asked. My resentment was full blown now.

"He perfected the end of semester World History exam and a classmate of his wanted to congratulate him with a free dinner," my mother said in an appeasing tone as if begging for my understanding towards my brother who didn't seem to care much whether I was around the house or not.

"He promised not to stay out late and that he would be home in time for your arrival," my mom said, running her hand gently up and down my back to make me feel better.

My conversation with my parents during the trip from the airport back to our house was mostly about my school experiences in London and about my host family, the Garretts.

I informed my parents that Mr. and Mrs. Garrett were a very kind couple who had agreed to accommodate me in their house for the length of my stay in London. They had a son who was in the same class as myself who was just as nice as his parents.

Soon my father had reached our residence and had started to get our gate to open with his remote control.

"Hey isn't that Euro?" I asked my parents when I saw someone walking a few distance away from our driveway.

"I believe so," my mother replied, squinting to get a better look at the approaching person.

"Hold up, Dad," I said, jumping out of the car.

"Euro!" I called out, waving to him.

"AJ!" he yelled back, half running, half walking towards me.

As soon as he reached me, we both gave each other a hug.

Just at that moment, JJ arrived from the other side of the street and saw me and Euro hugging.

A dark scowl appeared on his face.

I broke apart from Euro and scowled back at JJ.

"You couldn't be bothered to come home in time to accompany Mom and Dad to pick me up at the airport," I said before he could open his mouth to speak.

"Yeah, he'd rather spend time with his new best buddy than meet you at the airport," Euro spoke up.

Did I imagine a bitterness cross Euro's face. It was so fleeting that there was a chance that I had just imagined it.
