Chapter 14

A/N: New chapter!!! I'm slowly coming to writing again and I missed this so much. Also, I may or may not be working on a book that's absolutely not linked with the Love Therapy universe. I'm still figuring some stuff out but I hope I can announce it soon. :)

Opulence, that was all Shreya knew how to describe Rohit Seghal's house. No! Hers was a house, his home was nothing short of a mansion.

"Mom!" Kavya called out, excitedly. "Check this out! The pool is huge!"

Shreya could only gawk as she made her way through the house. When she finally made it to where Kavya was, she was met with more grandeur. There was a sundeck leading down to the pool area that suited a hotel more than a house. A little further away was a curated garden area, she guessed, for garden parties.

Shreya felt awkward standing at the edge of the sundeck. She felt as though she didn't belong to this world. Sure, her fashion business was doing well but it was nowhere near Rohit Sehgal's level of rich. His money was dynastic.

"Do you think dad would let me get a puppy?" Kavya asked, pulling Shreya out of her thoughts. "Look at the size of this garden."

"And who's going to take care of it?" Shreya retorted. "Absolutely not."

"Mooooommm," Kavya whined and pulled out her best pout.

Shreya knew Kavya has Rohit wrapped around her fingers. In order to stop this discussion, she was the one who had to put her foot down.

"Kavya," she chided. "You're going to start school very soon. There's going to be homework and extra-curricular activities and friends... You do realize you're not going to have much time left to look after a puppy, right? Also, reality check, not every puppy is like Tuffy from Hum Aapke Hain Kaun."

"Fine," Kavya sighed, dramatically. As she made her way inside the house, she silently added. "Maybe I should ask dad."

Shreya silently groaned; she had expected this. Rohit Sehgal had better say no to Kavya, if not, he is going to be the death of her.

"Daadi (Grandma)," Shreya suddenly heard Kavya call out and she immediately froze in her place. She knew she had to face the Nandini Sehgal one day but she wasn't expecting her to be here.

"Where's your mother?" Shreya heard Nandini ask.

Shreya made her way into the house and she came face to face to Nandini.

"Namaste," Shreya greeted

"Mmm," Nandini nodded, as a sign of acceptance of Shreya's greetings. "Miss Kapoor, can we please talk in private?"

Shreya gave Kavya a look that was supposed to indicate that told her to leave. However, Kavya has never seen her mother so shaken up before and so she stayed planted. She was suddenly very protective of her mother.

"Kavya," her mother begged. "Please?"

Kavya gave one last look before she made her way back to the pool area. Only once Kavya was out of earshot, Nandini spoke. Kavya couldn't hear the conversation at all, but she knew was that her mother was in trouble. She followed her instinct, pulled out her phone and immediately dialed for her father. After a few rings, he picked up.

"Kavya," she could hear Rohit on the line. "I'm almost there."

"Daadi's (Grandma's) here," Kavya blurted out.

"What?" Rohit sounded confused and a bit concerned. "Do you know why she's here?"

Kavya shook her head but then realized her father couldn't see her.

"No," she verbalized. "Mom and her are talking."

"And where are you?" Rohit asked.

"I'm outside by the pool," she answered. She could hear his car speeding up. "They wanted to talk privately."

"Is anyone else with her?" Rohit questioned.

"No," Kavya replied. "I think her driver might be outside but other than that no one else is here."

Rohit mentally cursed himself for letting this happen.

"Can you hear what they are saying?" Rohit followed up.

Kavya strained her ear to listen but she couldn't hear anything.

"Do you want me to go in and listen?" Kavya asked in return.

"It's ok," Rohit responded. "Just stay where you are."

Rohit wanted to know what was being said but at the same time, he didn't want to expose his daughter to one of his mother's insulting spree. He knew she's had it out for Shreya ever since the court announced the custody situation. She wanted wanted Shreya out of his and his daughter's life. Suddenly, it struck Rohit why his daughter had called him. She was afraid for her own mother.

"Kavya," he comforted her. "Everything's going to be alright. Nothing's going to happen to your mom. Sun (Listen), I promise I'm not going to let anything happen to her, ok? I promise."

"Ok," she replied. Kavya felt more reassured now that her father had promised her.

"I'm just around the corner so I'm going to hang up," he told her. "Everything's going to be alright."

"Ok," she repeated.

"See you in a while," he said.

"See you," she answered and heard the phone click as Rohit hung up.

True to his words, it didn't take long before she could hear her father's voice reverberating throughout the house.

"Maa!" Rohit called out.

Kavya took this as a sign to make her way back into the house. She was greeted with the sight of her mother looking less scared and more angry at her grandmother. It wasn't long before Rohit stumbled upon them.

"What are you doing here, maa?" Rohit spat.

"I just wanted to clear a few things up with Miss Kapoor and see my granddaughter," Nandini answered calmly. "That's all."

"Let me make myself very clear," Rohit warned. "Shreya might not be my wife but she is the mother of my child. And, she should be treated with the amount of respect she is due."

Nandini shrugged as if those words did not bother her.

"I have to get going," she then said. "Nice to see you again Kavya, Shreya. Rohit, bring them home for dinner sometimes, will you?"

It wasn't until the door closed behind her that anyone in the room dared to take a breath.

"Mom," Kavya fretted. "Are you ok?"

"Miss Kapoor," Rohit apologized, simultaneously. "I'm sorry."

"It's ok," Shreya replied first to Rohit and then to Kavya. "I'm ok."

"Let me show you to your rooms," he changed topics. "I don't know why the staff didn't do that. The movers are 5 minutes out, I asked the guards to help out."

Shreya nodded. She could tell Kavya was a bit shaken up so Shreya put a reassuring hand on Kavya's shoulder.

"Come on Kavya," Shreya encouraged. "Let's go see our room."

Rohit led the two ladies upstairs and stopped at the second door on the right.

"This is Kavya's room," he said as he opened the door.

Kavya peeked behind Rohit and her jaw dropped. There was a poster bed against one wall and the wardrobe was directly in front of it. There was a writing desk  sitting below the window opposite the door and on top of it sat the latest MacBook. It was spacious and had more than enough space to fit everything she brought.

Kavya flung her arms around Rohit and hugged him.

"This is amazing," she squealed. "Thanks dad!"

Rohit hugged her back and ruffled her hair.

"You're welcome," he replied. "I'm glad you liked it."

Kavya let go of Rohit and launched herself onto the bed. Rohit and Shreya shared a laugh at their daughter's antics.

"Let me show you to your room," Rohit muttered to Shreya. "It's next door."

Shreya nodded and allowed Rohit to lead her. He opened the door and like Kavya, Shreya was in awe.

The room had a similar layout to Kavya's but instead of a desk at the window, the area was a slightly partitioned off to create a home office space.

"Woah," Kavya said, startling both parents who were unaware of her presence.

"Do you like it?" Rohit asked Shreya.

"This is..." Shreya hesitated slightly, she didn't know how to put it in words. "You really shouldn't have done so much. Thank you."

Rohit gave a curt half smiled in return. The doorbell chose to ring at that moment.

"Must be the movers," he said and excused himself.

"Mom," Kavya said as she stood in front of Shreya, stopping her physically from walking away. "Are you really ok? What did daadi (grandma) say?"

"It's really nothing," Shreya answered. "She had some... concerns but I had cleared it out with her. I am fine, Kavya, you don't have to worry about it."

Kavya nodded.

"I'm going to help your father with the movers," she continued and pivoted her daughter out of her way. "You can still check out you room for a bit but don't forget you still have boxes to unpack."
