Falling into Place
Ona's Perspective
Chewing on the end of my pencil, I don't know what to think. The fact that Taehyung hasn't made some sort of communication in over week has me worried. I don't know what's happening, no one tells me anything, and the fact that I have midterms already in my classes is another huge slap to the face. I don't have time to worry about art projects. It just hasn't been worth it to care.
"Ona," I look up from the blank sketchbook, pencil slipping out of my fingers as I see Jin hovering over the back of the couch, lips in a straight line and eyes looking almost as tired as mine. We both shared the lilac prints that showed how stressed we were. "You've been sitting there for a good hour and a half, just staring at the paper. Why don't you just put it down and come to the coffee shop with me and Jimin?"
The sweet taste of coffee did sound like the perfect medicine, but I couldn't bring myself to wiggle out of my cozy corner that I've basically claimed for the past few days. I've never felt this drained in my whole life, as if an energy vampire came and sucked it all out of my body.
"I'll take a rain check." My voice was hoarse as well and I coughed a bit to clear it.
Jin sighed, hand on one hip and holding his hand out. "I didn't say no was an answer." Taking one look into his brown eyes and I knew he meant business. No one could say no to this man. Ever.
"But my art project?" I whined.
"What project? It doesn't seem like you have an idea of what to do. Which means you need to get some fresh air and loosen up a bit in order to think of something good. Go get some shoes on and meet us in the lobby downstairs." He offered me a small smile to show he wasn't trying to be too forceful before grabbing his coat near the door and leaving the apartment.
I felt like, besides Jin, I was the only one feeling the weight of stress when it came to Taehyung. Yoongi and Hoseok have been away for sometime, either working on music or sleeping, Namjoon was always with Sky, Jimin was out doing many things, and Jungkook enrolled back in school after Jin demanded him to. It's been too quiet in this house and when it was loud, it was over first person shooters. I guess everyone was just trying to not think about what was currently happening.
Sighing, I did what Jin requested and pulled on my shoes, trudging out to go meet them. Jin and Jimin sat in plush chairs in the lobby, talking quietly amongst themselves. As I came up to them, Jimin smiled lightly at me, his eyes turning into crescent moons as I gave him one back. I bet, out of the three of us, I looked the worst as I knew my eyes were blood shot and purple smudges underlined my under eyes. I should have put on some make-up, but that seemed like too much of an effort.
"There she is," Jin shot straight up and wrapped an arm around me. "Trust me, you need this."
"Yeah, Ona," Jimin chuckled, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead. He then looked down at me, giving me a look that agreed with Jin, basically saying 'you could use the light, you vampire'. "I will buy you anything you want today, so take advantage."
As we made our way out into the world, the bright light of the burning sun blinded me, making me cover my eyes with my arm and breath in the fresh air that I hadn't been surrounded by in a long time. I will admit, it did feel nice. Being couped up in the apartment was cozy, but I didn't realize how suffocating it was until I stepped outside. I needed this. For sure.
The boys led me down a few blocks, talking randomly about new songs and even where they wanted to go clothes shopping. I sat back and just listened to their voices as the coffee shop came into view, looking abandoned and quiet even though the streets were teeming with life.
This was when I wondered where Taehyung was at the moment. If he was okay, if he was alone, or maybe running from the police. This all seemed like some crazy, sappy drama, nut it was real life. As I missed him so much, I would visit our house, the one he so sneakily bought and made possible for the two of us. Of course, we were too young to live together, but nothing would make me happier now than to just have the both of us living there now. Some days I wold go back to that house and just dip my feet in the aquamarine waters, light the scented candles we had stashed, and just sit on the hardwood, dusty floors inside of the house. It's crazy what the little things can do for a struggling soul.
"Ona?" I looked up, shaking out of my deep thoughts as I saw the two boys staring at me, Jimin holding the door open for me without me knowing. "Come on." He smiled and pushed me through. The immediate scent of strong coffee beans hitting my nose and making my tired brain ignite with the need for the bitter taste.
"What do you want today? Hey Jimin! How are you?" The man behind the counter asked. His eyes were big and the deepest brown I had ever seen and his cheeks puffed when he smiled, making him look like the softest chipmunk. I looked at his tag and saw the name Minseok printed on with a smiley face sticker next to it.
"Great," my brother smiled, but his eyes were directed to the busy girl in the back, her hands scrubbing away at coffee bean tubs, hair falling in her pretty face. "Just the usual."
"I'll have a black coffee with some cream on the side." Jin smiled as well.
"And for you?" Minseok looked to me, his eyes smiling more than his mouth, making a blush to appear as I realized I had mean silent and basically acting like a robot this whole time. I needed to get my head out of the clouds.
"Uh," I tried to think of something quick, but my mind was scattered and not even able to think of just a single drink. "Anything." I looked at Jimin for help.
"She'll just have the same as me," He nodded and handed Minseok his card, waving over to the girl, who I now see is Seo. She smiled at him, holding a finger up as she heads to the back while removing her black apron that's around her waist. From what I have heard, Jimin and Seo have been really inseparable which makes my insides warm with the thought. After what happened with his last relationship, I was just glad the wound was being mended by Seo's gorgeous smile.
The three of us decided to sit at a table near the window facing the street, the rumble of the cars and the people on their work being the aesthetic for this small cafe.
"Aren't you happy to be out of the apartment?" Jin asked, slinging his arm across the back of my chair and giving me a warm smile.
"It is nice to have a different scenery." I agreed, nodding my head in agreement.
"We know how hard all of this is," Jimin leaned forward, clasping his hands and trying to form a smile for me. I could tell his eyes were sad. He missed his best friend. "I've been asking Yoongi to try and talk with his friend, but he keeps telling me that they won't answer back."
"Which is weird considering that they told us they would update all of us on their whereabouts." Jin butted in, shaking his head as if disgusted by something.
"Here you go," I looked up to see Seo bringing over our drinks, a large smile on her face as she places them on the table for us. "What are you all up to today?"
"Bringing the hermit out of her cave." Jin chuckled, causing me to roll my eyes as I sipped my drink.
"How are you holding up?" She asked, sitting across from me and beside Jimin who looked at her like she was the only girl in the world.
"How you would think." I laughed bitterly. I had no problem with her knowing the situation. If Jimin trusts her, then I had nothing to really worry about. What I didn't like was talking about the subject as nothing was resolved or known. I felt like I was in the world's biggest cage; the knowledge of the situation was there but not being able to get out of it was suffocating. Never knowing when something was gonna end or if it even was going to was too much for my brain to handle.
"Let's not talk about it," Jimin pushed which I was very thankful for. "We are here to feel stress free, okay?" He looked at Seo who nodded and smiled shyly.
"Sorry," She nodded. "Well, I know a few places we can do after I get off work--" I tuned her out as she starting speaking about the places as my mind focused more on the outside world. The sky was the same baby blue that it has been for the past week. Puffy, white clouds painted the sky like balls of cotton and the sun was a ball of golden flame that seemed to be almost fake. What I wouldn't give to be burned about it.
My eyes then focused more onto the actual street that was bustling with city life, even during the late afternoon. Sometimes I wished that could just get a car and drive off for a bit, not knowing my destination but just driving and ending up somewhere random. Of course, I would want Taehyung with me. He would make that drive more fun and unpredictable.
As I focused in on more of the people, I couldn't help but glance towards the police station that was across from us; the same one Jackson worked in. I hadn't been in contact with him since Mickey and I spoke to him last. I never knew any updates, if he had any, or if Jimin perhaps spoke to him at all. I was kept in the dark. It was tempting to make my way over there, to see if anything new had been uncovered, but as I let that thought drift away, my mind was captured by something more intriguing.
A girl across the way, her hair falling pretty long in dark chocolate waves and black knee socks seeming to slip as she walked, was making her way towards the station. She wasn't alone though. A man, way taller than her in a tailored, blue suit and with bangs that most likely blinded him, walked beside her while another man with a mop of brown hair dressed with a plain black shirt and jeans followed behind. I narrowed my eyes for a second as I tried to investigate each face, trying to see why I was so invested on their movements.
And that's when the second man turned his head to look behind him. Taehyung.
I didn't realize I was on my feet until I heard Jin and Jimin call out my name, but I wasn't paying attention as the man across the way was more important than answering any questions they were asking. I waved my hand at them and made my way out the door, staring wide eyed at the three as they made their way up the steps of the station, the girl inking her arms through Taehyung's and the other man's. Was she Yoongi's contact? Or maybe the other guy was? All I knew was that I had to follow and see what was going on. To be fair, I was never the curious type or did things like this, but if it had to do something with someone I cared about, especially Taehyung, then I needed to know.

Taehyung's Perspective
I wasn't too confident in our plan. B and Daesung seemed all over it, but on the drive further downtown, I was getting more nervous as each building passed us. Going to the police station was probably the last place I should ever turn up, especially when the force was digging deep to figure out my destination, but Daesung reassured me I wouldn't be placed into handcuffs on arrival. Should I trust him? Probably not, but what else could I do?
"You know, you need a better pokerface." B smiled up at me as we got out of Daesung's car.
"Wouldn't you be nervous?" I asked, running a hand through my hair as I huffed out a slow breath to try and calm myself down.
"Mm," She turned her head side to side to think about it. "Not if I had the confidence in the two people that are there to help," She then coughed twice. "Which happens to be us, silly." She motioned to her and Daesung who smugly smiled as he locked his car.
"Your friend is right," He nodded, switching the tooth pick he had in his mouth to the other side. "Have a little faith." We then started to walk down the street, my heart race going a mile a minute as I looked around me. Trying not to be suspicious was harder than you think.
I let out a low chuckle, shaking my head in disbelief. They don't understand the pressure and intensity of this situation. The fact that they expect me to go in there, announce my presence, and be okay with being interrogated is a bit too much. They assured me that the things they practiced for me to say would be enough and that they would handle the rest was impossible and beyond belief. I wanted so bad to just run back to the apartment from here, to be welcomed back by my friends and to fall in the arms of Ona. I imagined she was doing well in school while I was gone, drawing up pictures that represented her thoughts and mood as I knew she was an emotional artist, but also someone that loved to draw her favorite actors or singers. She was that type of artist that kept you wanting more.
"Listen, if things get a little carried away," B started as we made it to the front of the police station, linking arms with both me and Daesung. "We'll just use Daesung's money."
Daesung looked over at her, eyes moving behind the fence of bangs he had. "You just assume my wallet is out in the open and ready to be used by anyone?" Even though he tried to sound serious, a smile was lifting on his face.
"Maybe not to you, but I know someone who can get your bank numbers before you can even guess my actual name," She smiled big, as if that person she mentioned was the highlight of her life. Yoongi, I'm guessing and wouldn't be shocked that he knew how to do that. "Anyway," she continued as we made our way up. "Tae, you have nothing to worry about. You'll be getting out of this easily."
"I think you forget who my father is." I told her.
"It's hard to forget a little shit like that," Daesung laughed, opening the door to let us in. "Especially when he stole my business." Even though his smile was clearly there, a fire was in his eyes as he thought about that man.
I stared at the door for a second, feeling the nervous sweat on my brown beginning to form as I didn't know what would happen once I passed the threshold into a room of armed officers that were searching for the main target: me. I wanted to just run away or even faint to avoid something like this. What has my life come to?
"Hey," I looked down to see B giving me an actual genuine smile, her brown eyes softening as she looked at me. "I get it. It's scary. Just think about locking up your scumbag of a father and getting to see your girl again. This will work. We're with you until the end of line." Even though I feel like she stretched her truth on the last part, I felt my anxiety fade a bit to be replaced by confidence. It was a good enough amount to hopefully get me through what I was going to do.
I nodded, making her smile grow bigger and more determined.
The three of us then walked inside, the two of them standing before me like a couple of bodyguards and I would have laughed if it wasn't such a serious situation. I could sense the tension in the air like a cloud of thick fog and it wasn't the best feeling in the world.
"Kim Taehyung?" The man at the front looked me over, his eyes widening and his mouth agape as he took me in. I breathed out deep, walking passed B and Daesung, holding my arms out to show I was turning myself in. I don't know, I never watched cop shows or whatever shows like the sort. All I knew was to show I was handing myself over.
Before I knew it, two police came over, immediately handcuffing me with the silver cuffs. To be fair, the cuffs weren't that bad, not as hurtful as I thought they would be and I couldn't deny that my heart was racing worse than it did when I got out of the car only minutes beforehand.
"We are Mr. Kim's representatives." Daesung said as the two cops pushed me down in a waiting chair. I felt like this was the beginning of some shit drama where I would be the anti-social second character. Lord, have mercy. Although I could see Daesung was really enjoying this to no end.
"Yeah," The man at the desk said, his eyebrow raised and an unsure expression crossing over his face. "The man with the clip on bangs and the little 10-year-old girl with knee stockings. Sounds legit," He huffed before crossing his arms. "You're lawyers?"
"Yes we are, dear," Daesung smiled, pulling out neatly folded papers from the inside of his jacket, handing them over as B just glared at the man. Probably from calling her a child. I honestly felt so stupid sitting her as I watched this comedy act. "I happen to be a very well known lawyer and best in the business. This lady here is actually my assistant, but learning on the job."
B looked up at him, obviously fuming as the original plan was for her to be just as equally in power as him, but of course, Daesung changed the plan like a director would a script.
"Actually I am a lawyer--," She started, but Daesung stepped in front of her, cutting her off.
"Lawyer-in-training." Daesung playfully rolled his eyes and smiled at the man at the desk as he looked over the papers.
"I don't know. I've never heard of you and how do you happen to be here at the same time?" The man looked over at me, an almost hateful look that could make anyone feel dead inside.
"You don't get out much do you? Should I change that?" Daesung chuckled, tilting his head to make his bangs part a bit to look closely at the man.
I sighed as I couldn't stand hearing Daesung's flirting game commence. I swear this guy dreamed for his life to be a real soap opera. I glanced around myself, being aware of the closeness of the two cops that were ready to throw me into the cells at any moment. The atmosphere inside was depressing, a little too stuffy for comfort and definitely too hot to think clearly. I swear you could cook an egg on the front desk if you kept this heat up.
"Sir, you're giving me a headache," The man at the front said, rubbing his temples with his hands, but even I could see a faint blush on his pale cheeks. "You'll just have to wait until--"
"Kang Daesung?" A raspy voiced called out and I looked up to see a very familiar face. Jackson Wang, mine and Jimin's old school friend. Well, that's where he turned up, a brother in blue. He didn't look too different, except his head was shorter and a way lighter brown, but he was still built the same and his smile was just as soft.
He came through a door to greet Daesung, shaking his hand and patting his shoulder as if they were the closest of friends. He then looked over to B, nodding to her and then his eyes grazed over me, his smile lifting more for a bit before collapsing to give me a serious look.
"Jackson, you know him?" The man pointed at Daesung.
"Yes! Best lawyer in town," Now I was really confused. Daesung was far from a lawyer and only pretending to be one, so how the hell was this playing out? "Is Mark giving you trouble? Sometimes he can be a tight ass."
The man, Mark, looked horrified as he opened his mouth to say something, but closed it once Jackson glared at him before turning back to Daesung and grinning. "Nah, just trying to play hard to get." Daesung chuckled which made Officer Mark seem to want to die right on the spot.
"Well, I'm glad we can do this," Jackson nodded. "Mark, Mr. Kang here called to say he persuaded his client to turn himself over. Apparently, he has some things to confess." Jackson the n looked over to me, his eyes seeming to be very friendly, but his whole face was set hard as if he was trying to intimidate me. I will say...I was fucking confused.
"Oh, well," Mark nodded. "I guess that makes sense."
"Take him to the interrogation room." Jackson nodded to the two cops beside me. They both nodded as they helped me up. They started to drag me across the room to take me to the room I would be interrogated with. That's when I turned my head to see my two comrades but instead caught a glimpse of chestnut locks brushing against a face I hadn't seen in what felt like eternity.
