"This is why we can't have nice things"
Blake felt like crying. He also felt like laughing. He could proudly say that this time it wasn't his fault. It was Charlotte's idea to play Hot Potato with the basketball. Granted, he should have remembered how excited Charlotte could get. So, if anything it's only a little bit Blake's fault, and a lotta bit Charlotte's fault that Lilo newest vase broke.
Blake should have been more careful. He knew that Lilo really liked that vase and was going to take it into the city to sell it. And Blake knew that that vase would have sold for a fine amount of money.
Blake sighed, going into the kitchen and grabbing the trash can. "Don't worry about it, Charlie. Dad won't be that mad."
"Are you sure? I'm so sorry, Blakey!" Charlotte pouted as she got on her knees and started helping Blake.
Blake entered the living room and set the trash can next to the broken shards. He gave Charlotte a one sided hug, trying his best to convey a message that said, It's fine. I forgive you.
"Don't worry about it, okay? Dad's on his way home so you should head back home to okay?" Blake advised, standing up and offering Charlotte his hand. He'd finished cleaning up the vase when Charlotte left.
She stood up taking his hand and threw away some of the shards. She felt so guilty. "Okay... But you call me tonight and tell me what happens."
Blake chuckles and nods his head leading her through the front door. "I will. I'll see you later, kay? Love you!"
"I love you too!" Charlotte responded getting on her bike and pedaling home.
Blake sighed and closed the door getting straight to work.

Door swung open and Lilo tossed his bag onto the couch. "I'm home, Blake!"He called, kicking off his shoes.
Blake ran down the stairs and immediately threw himself on Lilo hugging his tightly. "Dad!"
Lilo groaned. Blake was very definitely getting bigger. "Missed you too, kiddo."
Blake released him, and Lilo walked into the kitchen opening the fridge. "What's for dinner kid?"
Blake giggled, climbing on top of the counter. "Pancakes!"
"Pancakes?" Lilo cried, turning around. "For dinner?"
Blake nodded smiling hugely at his father. Lilo shook his head but nevertheless got to work.
An hour later, filled with flour fights and Blake stealing spoonfuls of the batter to "taste-test!", they were ready to eat. Lilo sat at the table cutting his pancakes when he brought it up.
"Hey, I have to leave early tomorrow. That alright with you?"
Blake nodded not looking up from where he was drowning his pancakes in syrup and powdered sugar. "Okay."
Lily's nose wrinkled at the sight of Blake's pancakes. "Save some syrup for next time, yeah? And I finally have a buyer for the vase. You know, the pretty one you liked?"
Blake sighed putting the syrup down. He swallowed, and started cutting his pancakes slowly. "Oh yeah? That's... good."
"Mhm. However, I can't find it. Do you know where it is?" Lilo asked swallowing a bite.
Blake reluctantly nodded. "In the trash," he mumbled.
His father's top lip twitched. "Why?"
He couldn't do it. Blake couldn't lie to dad. The truth would have eaten him alive and he was sure Lilo knew that. He told his dad exactly what happened, and was choking on his tears when he finished.
Lilo already knew. He was well aware that vase was broken. There has never been someone waiting to buy the vase; that merely a way to approach the topic. Charlotte cracked as soon as she got home, instantly ringing up the older man. Though Lilo had to admit, he was shocked his son lasted that long.
He stood up from the table, pushing his plate away. He walked over to Blake picking him up and carried him like a baby to the couch. "Kid, it's fine. Stop apologizing."
"You're not mad..?"
Lilo shook his head. "This is why we can't nice things. I knew that already. I just," he shrugged, "forgot I guess. But don't worry Blake. It happens to the best of us okay?"
Blake nodded, hugging his dad.
Lilo kissed the back of Blake's head then pushed the boy off him. "Now, go shower Rugrat. It's bedtime."
Blake giggled running up the stairs smiling.
A/N: This was supposed to end with a lot more humor, but of course Lilo had to prove he was good dad material (tm)
