August 10th, 2017

Samantha stepped out of the ballroom, distancing herself from the people dancing inside.

It was only quarter till 9; she wasn't tired.

She just needed to think.

The young woman stood outside, crossing her arms across her stomach. The air was warm and the slight wind chill felt good on her heated face. The amount of bodies in the room made the air thick and hot. Especially with the dancing.

Sam let out a sigh.

She didn't feel like herself. It's been like this for a while.

Even though she always put on a tough appearance, she felt broken and confused most days.

She had trouble distinguishing things and usually pushed her insecurities deep within but they all have been bubbling out lately. She usually only shared them with people she cared about, like Dylan.

She left him in there.

He had been talking to Kevin last she saw him.

Besides, she wanted to be alone.

Suddenly, there was a creaking sound from the door opening behind her.

Sam paid no mind to it and continued to look ahead at the night sky.

"What's a beautiful girl like yourself doing alone out here?"

She looked back and saw Dylan stand there casually.

"I just needed some fresh air.."

Her boyfriend walked up next to her.

"It's nice out here..not so many people."

Sam giggled, "Yeah, thank goodness."

Dylan laughed as well, his arms reaching for her.

He wrapped his arms around her torso, stood behind her with his head leaning on her shoulder.

The young man began to sway to the sound of the muffled music from inside, taking the girl with him.

It was a soft song, very peaceful.

"This is nice..."

"It is..."

They let the silence along with the faded music carry through as they snuggled into one another.

But the Dill Pickle ceased the moment, his feet fidgety, "Let's head to the dance floor."

Sam felt his warm body pull away from her back and she groaned softly, "Not yett..."

"Pleaseee...let's go, babe."

"Dill, I don't feel like going in there."

"Come on, let's dance to one song," he said reaching for her hand, really trying to persuade her.

Her eyes locked with his, the trance drowning her.

He put one finger up pleadingly, "One song."

Samantha stared at his smile.

How could I say no to that smile?

"Fine," she said although Dylan was already pulling her towards the door.

They both stepped inside and it was like a college-meets-classy style after party. All the guests wore party dresses and suits. Each and every person was up on their feet and dancing like nobody was watching.

Sam felt out of place.

So did Dylan.

He watched his girlfriend look at all the people around them with an unsure look in her eye.

"Hey," he started trying to get her attention, "just pretend that no one else is here but us."

She turned her head towards him.

"It's just you and me."

Right as he said that, the song had shuffled and it sounded very familiar.

[You can play the music right here if you want doesnt matter😂]

It was Sam's favorite song.

She started to squeal as her ear caught the tune, "What are we waiting for?? Move your feet, Dill!"

Soon Sam began to bounce up and down to the beat while Dylan followed her, sort of caught off guard.

The two danced around like dorks, but they didn't care. It was just each other.

Samantha felt her heart ease.

This was actually a blast.

She was glad to be there with him and they were having fun like old times.

Back when they first started hanging out.

Dylan grabbed Sam's hand, twirling her around in a circle and dipped her in his arm.

As he did, the two laughed in unison at how quirky they were.

He brought her back up, but didn't let her go.

Dylan felt his heart leap out of his chest watching Sam smiling and laughing.

It was infectious.

He loved it.

Sam stopped laughing and saw Dylan gazing at her and gazed back.

"You look so perfect standing there..."

The music rang through their ears, the base vibrating their chest.

"You have no idea how incredible you are," Dylan stated in awe.

The girl felt herself flush but remained silent.

Dylan placed his hands to her cheeks, pulling her face into his.

Sam didn't resist.

Their lips landed on each other, a kiss forming between them.

Why did she have doubts?

They kissed again.

He really cared about her.

And again.

They had fun together.

And again.

She couldn't have anyone better.

"Whoa, get a room you two!"

They pulled away in embarrassment to see Kevin and Angela not so far away from them, smirking at the scene.

"Ah...sorry man," Dylan replied sheepishly, his face flushed.

"No worries, just don't get too carried away there," Kevin said with a wink.

The newly weds walked away as randomly as they came.

"Wow," Sam said feeling awkward, "I didn't mean to get too carried away like that."

"No no that was all me.."

"I've just been feeling strange and confused I-I, I shouldn't have done that..."

"Sam," Dylan reached for her hand, "It's okay. If you're not comfortable with anything, you just have to tell me. I'll understand."

She put her other hand to her face and nodded solemnly.

She already knew he'd understand. He always did understand. Could she understand herself?

"Okay...let's just go get some food."

Samantha walked away quickly towards the table of treats while Dylan watched her feeling like a doof.

I made her feel uncomfortable, I'm such an idiot.

He moaned to himself and followed behind her.
