July 4th, 2017

It was 5:40pm when Dylan walked towards the house with the address that was in his phone. It was for Kevin's house. He had invited him and a few of his friends to hang out at the amusement park and watch the fireworks for the fourth of July..

Sam was invited too.

The young man had no idea what sort of feelings he had towards that girl.

Kevin thinks he really does like her more than friends..

He wasn't sure how he felt about it.

But why should how he act towards her change from the past?

They were just friends.

Ding Dong.

The door creaked open and there stood a slim, chocolate skinned young woman.

He smiled a little, "Hey, is this Kevin Burns's house?"

The girl beamed, "Yes it is!" She grabbed his hand and shook it, "I'm Angela, Kevin's fiancé! It's great to meet you..."

She waited for him to say his name, which he did, "Dylan."

"Oh! You're Dylan! Kevin has talked alot about you! And you're pretty handsome too; I should set you up with one of my single friends."

"Oh, I'm alright thank you."

Angela giggled, "Sorry, I get a little spazzy sometimes," she opened the door wider, "Come on in! Make yourself at home."

Dylan stepped through the front door and took in the scene. The house had alot of space, the wooded floors were in great condition, and the furniture looked to be almost brand new.

There was already people there. They all were crowded in the living room, chatting up a storm.

He slowly made his way towards the noise while Angela trailed behind.

Dylan scanned the heads of all the people and finally found a familiar face. He smiled.

"Hey Kev!"

The muscular man turned towards his direction and walked over.

"Hey Dylan," he wrapped one of his arms around Angela's waist, as well as shaking his friend's hand, "it's nice to have you finally over to our place. Has Angie treated you well?"

The other glanced at the girl and winked at him, "She's a keeper, Kev. Never let her out of your sight."

"I dare not to, haha."

Ding Dong.

Someone else was at the door.

Angela let go of Kevin and walked towards the entrance, "I'll get it!"

Dylan paid attention to the door.

The door opened.

"Hi, I hope this is the right place."

It was a feminine voice.

"Yes you have! Please come in!"

The girl came through the door.

It was Sam. She wore a orange turtle neck and ripped jeans. She had her hair down and her contacts were in. The young woman made eye contact with Dylan, her mouth bursting into a smile.

His heart stopped.

He felt his palms sweat.

What was happening to him?

He couldn't look away from her gaze.

She ran over to him, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"Dylan! Happy 4th!"

Dylan was startled as she embraced him.

He slowly put his hands around her waist.

"Hey Sam."

They pulled away and the girl turned to Kevin and quickly hugged him as well, "Good to see you, Kev!"

"You too, Sam."

Kevin winked at Dylan whom rolled his eyes.

The young girl nonchalantly asked the man of the house, "Sooo, when are we going to get the show on the road?"

"Right now, "Kev answered pulling out his keys, "Everyone head outside!"

...

Halting to a stop, the mini van parked into the lot of Wild Willy's Amusement Park. The group filed out of the vehicle and walked towards the entrance.

Dylan examined the scene.

The colors from the attraction were bright and almost chaotic, the music was blasting through the speakers, and the crowds were infested throughout the area.

Kevin came up next to him and smiled, "It looks great at this time of day," he patted his arm, "wait until tonight."

The big man then turned to his group, "We can all stick together for now but don't feel obligated to. If some of us want to split up we can meet at the ferris wheel after the fireworks. Good?"

The other 6 nodded and continued their walk to the entrance.

Kevin started to have conversations with the other three guys he invited, but since Dylan didn't know them he stayed out of it.

He just hung back next to Sam whom was in her own world, staring into space.

...

Once everyone had their sets of tickets, they all wanted to go on the Wild Willy Roller Coaster. It was a great purple coaster that would be a good start for all of them to ride. After a while, they were placed into their seats and fastened up.

It just so happened that Dylan sat in a booth next to Samantha. He looked over at her cautiously as she buckled her straps in.

"Why have you been so quiet today?"

Startled, Dylan replied, "What?"

She turned her head at him now, "Yeah, you haven't really talked as much as you used to. Is something on your mind?"

He didn't answer, feeling frazzled.

"Is it because of Jasmine again?"

Just when he was about to answer, the ride began to start and their attention was now on the ride.

Kevin yelled from the front, "Here we go ya'll!"

Everyone looked so excited, why couldn't Dylan be excited too?

The coaster was now setting it's course up the hill and Sam was starting to smile a little. The wind blew through her gorgeous mane as she yelled out to the others how frightened she was, yet she looked so calm.

Why was he staring; why couldn't he stop?

The coaster went down the hill and with all the loops and dips and spins. Dylan realized the coaster corresponded with his feelings, filled with so many twists and turns.

Sam laughed beside him as they plunged down and looped around.

That infectious laugh.

This made him realize he really needed to get his act together. He couldn't let himself ruin this night. It was time to have fun and not worry about something that doesn't matter.

Eventually the ride ended and everyone was going crazy over it.

Sam released a sigh, "Wow, that was intense!"

Dylan laughed, "You thought that was intense? The Ripetide is way more intense then this fella."

"Oh really now?" She asked, playing along with him.

"Yep, let's go on that next and I'll show ya what I'm talking about."

"Alrighty."

Dylan and Samantha sat in their seat waiting to be unloaded, but the worker never came.

The person had let everyone else off and they escaped the attraction and dispersed into the crowd.

Sam noticed this and shrugged, "Looks like it's going to be just us hanging out."

The man smiled after a moment, "I'm fine with that."

Finally, the coaster worker realized that he had left them both on the cart and headed in their direction, releasing them from the contraption.

The two looked at each other and immediately headed for the Ripetide.

...

Dylan and Samantha were having a great time at the amusement park. They rode on so many rides that made their stomachs twist and walked around to just stare at the scenery.

Suddenly, a new song began to play on the speakers that made Sam stop in her tracks.

Dylan looked back at her and raised an eyebrow, "What is it?"

"This is my favorite song!!"

He started to listen to the song, trying to indicate what it was. Then he recognized it; "She Looks So Perfect" by 5 Seconds of Summer.

It was a good song but he never knew she was into that music.

"You like this?"

"Of course! Don't you?"

"Yeah...it's really catchy," something caught Sam's attention and she grinned, "Ooh, what's that?"

Suddenly, she grabbed onto Dylan's hand and dragged him towards the direction.

It was one of those ball-and-target games where you try to win the stuffed animals that look like they were bought from a yard sale.

But Sam wanted to do it so Dylan rolled along.

"Three balls please." Sam said to the worker as she handed him three dollars.

He exchanged the cash for the grainy softballs.

The young man watched the girl set up her stance, hold one arm out and then let go.

She missed.

"Shoot."

Dylan crossed his arms, "You want some help?"

She scooted him away from her, "Wait wait I got this!"

He cackled and just leaned on the platform, listening to the music;

"Simmer down, simmer down
They say we're too young now to amount to anything else"

Sam threw the second ball and missed the target entirely.

"Wow, I'm really bad at this..."

The worker said to her, "It's your last shot, hun."

Dylan insisted again, "Sam..."

She looked at him with surrender, "Fine...can you please make this for me?"

"Of course I can.."

"I swear if you miss this..."

He cocked, "Don't worry, I have a perfected technique."

Sam teased, "Oh yeah, what's that?"

"All you have to do is close one eye shut and stick your tongue out, like this."

He showed her yet she still wasn't convinced, "There goes my three dollars—."

CRASH.

Dylan had thrown the ball and he nailed the target in the center, causing streamers to fall from the ceiling and the neon letters beside him glow up "WINNER".

Sam's eyes popped out.

The worker started reciting in a non-expressive tone, "Congratulations sir. Go ahead and pick a prize."

"How...how did you do that??"

Dylan smirked, "I did some little league back in the day. No biggie."

Sam beamed at him, "You're a crazy one, Dill."

The lyric of the song began to play into the air;

"You look so perfect standing there"

Dylan felt himself stare at her.

Her smile infected his motions.

Her laugh affected his emotions.

She was changing him.

He felt blush beginning to form on his face.

Dylan looked away trying to calm himself down.

Why was he getting so nervous?

Sam didn't notice and looked at the plush toys hanging from the tent, "So what stuffed animal are you going to choose?"

He turned towards her, "Why don't you pick?"

"Okay."

She scanned the options and smiled at something that caught her eye, "That's the one!"

The girl pointed at the green blob in the corner and the worker grabbed it from the back and gave it to her.

Once it came in full view, that's when Dylan got a kick out of it.

Sam picked out a plush pickle doll with sunglasses, wearing a Hawaiian t-shirt.

"No way that is awesome!"

She handed it to him, "Here, Dill."

"It's alright, you have it. You'll always have it for keep sake."

"Oh thanks," she smiled at it and hugged it around tightly.

...

It was now 9:00pm and Sam and Dylan were pooped from walking around and riding the crazy attractions.

They decided to end the night by going on the ferris wheel.

The two sat side by side in the caged platform and the wheel began to move up.

Sam sighed taking in a breath of air, "This is nice..."

She held her plush pickle and leaned her head on Dylan's shoulder.

This sent sparks through the man's skin as her body rested on him.

We're just friends.

We're just friends.

We're just friends.

"Are you doing okay, Dylan?"

She sounded serious.

"Yeah, I'm good..why?"

"It's just...we haven't been looking for girlfriends for you lately. I know how desperate you were to find one...I'm just worried that you aren't happy."

He felt himself stutter, "I...I am happy."

Sam sat up off his shoulder and made eye contact with him, "Are you happy?"

The young man stared at her for the longest time.

He wasn't looking for a girlfriend for a long time now.

It hadn't been on his mind..

She has.

Maybe he never realized it but all that he thought about was when he'd be able to see his friend next.

To be able to see her.

To be with her.

To make her smile that most beautiful smile she had...

Sam sat there, looking directly at him for an answer.

She really did look perfect.

Dylan finally had a grin on his face, "Yes, I actually am happy."

"Really?"

"Really."

That's when Sam started to calm down, "Thank you. You were worrying me there for a second-,"

BOOM.

Soon there were streaks of many colors bursting into the midnight sky above them.

They both looked up and started to crack up in relief.

"Geez that scared me."

"You're telling me."

They continued to watch the scenery shimmer in front of them.

It was breathtaking.

Sam sighed, "It's so perfect."

Dylan turned to look at her stare at the sky in awe, "Yeah..it is."

I have feelings for her...

The youtuber was surprised at his concluded thought but then smiled.

He had feelings for Sam...

Dylan then turned his attention back at the fireworks, feeling content with the night.
