August 7th, 2017

Dylan sat on his couch with his head in his hands.

It was about 1:30am about now.

He didn't feel like getting up to check.

He didn't care anymore.

It had began to rain, increasing the dismal feeling of the night.

Thunder here and there.

But silence in the house.

Knock. Knock.

"Dylan?"

The young man heard a voice outside the door and stood from his sitting position, moving steadily towards the entrance.

His hand reached for the doorknob.

The creaking sound of the joints whistled as he pulled the door open.

There stood a young woman staring up at him, wearing a raincoat on her back and her fuzzy pajamas underneath.

Concern was evident in her expression, not even caring about the rain soaking her cloths.

Dylan and Sam continued their trance eventually colliding into a tight embrace on the porch.

He held her in his arms, his tight breathing releasing.

She calmed him. He needed her.

She laid her head into his chest, letting the feeling of his hug overtake her worries.

He's okay... He's here with me now... He's okay...

...

"...I don't know why this is all happening. It's like she has a hold of my thoughts."

Dylan laid back on the sofa, becoming his girlfriend's patient as he vented all his concerns to her.

Samantha sat there across from him, listening to everything that fell out his mouth.

She was very understanding with what he was dealing with, even if she didn't quite get it.

"So you feel like she's going to keep us from having a better relationship?"

"Ah...in a way. It's weird to explain."

"You can't get rid of me that easily."

Dylan laughed at that, "I don't know how you deal with me."

"Trust me it's a challenge," she rolled her eyes and then smiled, "but I wouldn't change any of it."

He just watched her sit there in front of him contently.

"I don't deserve you."

"Oh shut up."

"No I'm serious. You're everything I ever wanted. You're strong, intelligent, incredibly gorgeous-"

She blushed at that, "Dill!"

The girl kicked the couch which made him smile even more.

"I almost took you for granted. I let my past affect our relationship. When you told me you loved me...I didn't know what to say. Jasmine would always say that to me and...and I didn't know how I could love anyone again after that."

Sam processed her thoughts and then spoke, "I really meant what I said, Dylan. And you can try to make me take it back but I can't. You're my best friend and I care about you too much to not say it. I love you, Dill Pickle. There's nothing you can do to change that."

Dylan Matthews couldn't fathom what the young woman stated.

She really loved him?

With all of his flaws?

Could he ever love anyone so unconditionally?

Could he exchange that same proposal?

"Sam, I...," he stopped, "I will never find another person that gives me the same happiness you do. Ever since I met you, there was something different that no girl I knew had. I can tell you anything without even worrying that you will judge me..." he sighed, reaching for Sam's hand, "I don't know why I tried to push you away, again. I'm so sorry."

She smiled, "I totally get it. You were working things out and you didn't mean to be harsh the other day."

Dylan sat up and leaned in to kiss her cheek, "You mean the world to me."

His lips met her cheek with a soft peck and he pulled away to stare into her complexion.

Samantha watch his eyes, confusion reflecting off of them, "...But you don't love me."

He felt his body turn stiff.

His eyes never left hers.

She waited for his answer.

Dylan open his mouth, his voice shaking, "Give me time..."

Samantha didn't say anything for awhile, unable how to correctly reply to that.

But she did, with slight uneasiness, "...I'm willing to wait."

"Thank you."

The two continued in their position, an unsettling feeling still in the air.

Dylan gripped her hands, his head resting next to hers, whispering, "Just give me time..."
