Dylan arrived at Samantha's apartment that summer night, dressed in his best attire.
They were going on a double date with Kevin and Angela to some decent restaurant that he's never heard of before.
He stepped out of his vehicle, fixing his button up shirt and walking up to the building steps.
The night was cool and peaceful, the sun gone and the moon shining in the heavens.
He stretched his arm to ring the doorbell.
Ding Dong.
Surprisingly enough, he wasn't nervous.
He felt comfortable.
Soon, there were footsteps heard from the other side of the door, then the twisting of the doorknob.
The door swung open and there she was.
Sam stood there wearing a short white dress, her hair dancing over her shoulders, and her wide glasses sitting on her nose.
She looked beautiful.
A big grin formed across Dylan's face seeing her standing there.
The girl in front of him looked down at herself and shrugged, "Is it too much?"
It was silent as the young man stepped closer to her, leaning his hands to her cheeks. He bent his head down and kissed her forehead, "You look perfect."
He pulled back, seeing her blush to herself. Sam smirked, "You get sappier and sappier everyday."
"I can't help it," Dylan took her hand, wrapping it in his.
"Come on, I'm starving!" She pulled on his arm towards the car while he laughed behind her.
...
A burst of laughter came from the table of four inside the high class restaurant. Dylan, Sam, Kevin and Angela were having a fun time together, throwing away the worries of the world. Just having some fun.
"No way, Kevin! That's not how it went," Angela said, pointing her fork at her fiancee, "You were engulfing all of those cakes as if it was a buffet! The workers faces were priceless!"
"Hey, if I'm going to choose the perfect cake for our wedding, I have to do some deep research.."
"By eating 20 bites of each cake?"
Sam joined in the banter, "In Kevin's defense, why waste perfectly good cakes by only eating a single bite?"
"Haha good point!"
Dylan rubbed his stomach, playfully licking his lips, "Man all this cake talk is really making me crave some dessert.."
Kevin smirked, pulling open the dessert menu, "Then why don't we have some....how does chocolate mocha cake sound to everyone?"
The other shook his head, "No, I'm fine, Kev. I have no more money to spend tonight."
"Don't worry, Dylan. This is on me," he said with a smile.
Dylan was about to argue but then he pulled back, choosing to take this kind gesture, "Thanks man."
"No problem."
...
"This was such a fantastic night," Angela said as they all walked out of the Italian Cuisine.
Samantha agreed, giving her new friend a hug, "It was! We should all do this again soon!"
"Of course!" The tan young woman clung onto her lovers arm, her head resting on his shoulder.
Dylan looked over at Sam who just stared back and him. This was a good night. It felt like the young man wasn't so lonely anymore. He found a great group of people he could just spend time with. It felt nice.
Kevin sighed, "Well, I think Ang and I are gonna head out. We have a rough next few weeks prepping for the wedding. Did you two get your invitations?"
"Yes, just a few days ago," Samantha replied, fixing her dress.
"Great! I hope you two have a good night," he winked at them causing Dylan and Sam to blush.
They waved at the couple as they went their separate ways.
The boyfriend tilted his head towards his vehicle, "Ready to head off?"
"Ready when you are," she said as took his hand.
...
Dylan walked Sam up to her apartment, their feet slowly taking each step.
He didn't want this night to end.
The thought of going home molded a pit in his stomach.
He'd be alone.
He held his girlfriend's hand tightly, reaching the top of the steps.
Sam pressed her lips together with an exhale, "Welp, I guess I'll see you at work tomorrow."
She turned towards him and noticed the sadness in his eyes, "Hey...what's wrong?"
Dylan didn't meet her eye contact.
This was dumb.
He shouldn't be so selfish, "It's nothing...I'll see you tomorrow."
The young man turned away, but a hand still held him in his place.
Sam's.
"Where do you think you're going like that?"
Dylan bent his head down.
"Look at me."
He did.
She stared into his eyes with the most loving gaze.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, "I'll see you soon, Dill."
Dylan said nothing, putting his own arms around her waist, embracing her.
It felt like they were almost swaying. Swaying to the same rhythm, the same song. This was right.
They held that position for a while until they pulled back.
Sam gave him a smile.
And he then returned it.
He couldn't pout at that cute smile she always gave him.
Dylan lifted his hand, stroking through her locks, leaning his head into hers.
They held their kiss,
remaining in that moment,
they cared for each other,
they were good for each other,
this feeling felt like it will last forever....
will it?
