~Chapter 1~

You groaned, rubbing your head as you sat up. Frisk laid on top of you, still knocked out. You shook him gently and cooed to him. "Come on Frisk, wake up."

He groaned, batting your hand away. You shook him again and he literally growled at you. Rolling your eye and laughing, you shoved him off your legs and let him panic as his head hit the ground. "Ouch! What was that for?!" They asked.

"You growled at me, ya dingus. I just shoved you off my legs."

"But it hurt!" He whined.

"Oh wah, grow up you big baby." You teased.

He huffed and sat up, looking around you. You mimicked him, examining your surrounding. "Where are we?" He asked, awestruck.

Your hand brushed over the golden blooms below you and you began to pluck them, weaving a crown. Frisk stood and walked around, looking for an exit. Quickly finishing the crown, you laid it on his head and pointed to a dim path. "I think that's the only way to go." You said.

"Are you sure?" Frisk asked.

"Well did you suddenly turn into spiderman and gain the ability to climb walls?" You retorted sarcastically.

"No..."

"Then there's your answer!"

Frisk rolled his eyes and crossed his arms sassily. "You're a jerk." He huffed.

"Tell me something I don't know." You snorted, ruffling his hair playfully.

You led the way down the dimly lit path, your vision much better than Frisk's in the low lighting. As you entered the first chamber, a circle of light gave way to a single patch of grass. You watched as a flower arose in the middle, swaying gently as it looked at you.

"Oh! It seems we have two humans! That's new!"

Your eyes widened and Frisk gasped as a faced appeared to match the voice. "We're new when you're a talking flower?!"

The bloom snickered and your confusion grew. "Well, you clearly don't know anything about the Underground. How about I explain the basics to you?"

You glanced at Frisk and shrugged. Putting your weight into one hip, you nodded. "Couldn't hurt could it."

The flower smiled. "Let's start with names. Hi! I'm Flowey, Flowey the Flower."

You concealed your snicker and grinned. "My name is (Y/N), and this is Frisk."

Flowey nodded and contined. "Well (Y/N), Frisk, welcome to the underground! I know it might be a little weird but don't worry, I'll explain everything!"

You felt the atmosphere shift and your vision flickered. Darkness crept into your eyes until you could only see Flowey. Two glowing hearts appeared in front of you, one red and one (S/C). You gazed at the two hearts, awestruck.

"These are your souls! They thrive on two things: beat and love!"

The thumped in unison and you smiled at Frisk. "I guess we really are in sync shorty."

He giggled and nodded. Flowey seemed annoyed by your interuption, but continued like it never happened. Around him, small white pellets appeared, spinning in place. "These are friendliness pellets! By absorbing these with your soul, you can get stronger! Many monsters will try to battle you, but these will make you harder to beat. And because you're new, I thought I give you some to start off.

The white pellets glided smoothly towards your soul. You smiled gratefully for his help. Boy were you wrong. The pellet was absorbed and you waited. Seconds later, white hot pain laced your body. Your eyes moved to Frisk and you swept your leg towards the pellet, knocking it away from his soul. He fell backwards as a hiss fell from your lips.

Flowey's face twisted into an unnerving grin. "You fools! In this world, it's kill or be killed. Now die!"

The white pellets surrounded you. In a moment of quick action, you grabbed Frisk and threw him in the air, like you did on occasion to help him practice. He sailed over the ring of white pellets and landed on his feet, though he was surprised by your actions.

"Frisk run!" You called, eyeing the ring of incoming pellets.

"(Y/N)!"

"Go!"

Stalling a moment, determination filled his eyes as he turned to escape. Flowey turned slightly towards the him as he escaped. You removed your shoe and flung it at the flower, nailing it in the face. He roared, turning his full attention to you!

"Hey! Who do you think you are?!" He snapped.

You didn't respond, instead focusing on shrinking your body away from the pellets. Flowey cackled evilly as you squeezed your eyes shut, awaiting impact.

In an instant his laugh cut off, giving way to a shriek of pain. Your eyes flew open just in time to watch the bloom uproot and fly into the shadows. The pellets fizzled out of existence and you relaxed. Your eyes lifted to find Frisk racing towards you, a new monster behind him. Frisk hugged you and you dropped down to his level. Hugging him back you smiled.

"Thanks Frisk! That was getting intense!"

"Don't thank me, thank her." He said, pointing to the monster.

You looked up as the monster stepped into the light. In front of you stood and tall, white, goat-woman. She had gentle, magenta eyes and a sweet smile. A purple dress bore an official-looking emblem covered her curvy body. She offered a paw-like hand which you took cautiously.

"Hello children, my name is Toriel. Welcome to the Ruins." She said sweetly.

You couldn't help but smile. "Thank you, Toriel. You saved me."

Toriel laughed, placing a hand on Frisk's head. "You are lucky Frisk acted so quick to seek out help." Her gaze faltered, looking briefly to the spot in which Flowey disappeared. "Such a miserable creature, preying on such innocent humans."

Her eyes returned to you and a smile replaced her grimace. "Anyway, follow me. I shall bring you somewhere safe."

Upon hearing the word safe you celebrated internally. Toriel took one of your hands each and led you through the so called 'Ruins.' Puzzles littered every so often. You let Frisk solve them, you yourself finding them too trivial.

Toriel spoke to you about the monsters in the Ruins. She talked about how to act when entering a battle, seeing as most monsters were obsessed with proving their skill.

About halfway, Toriel left, leaving you and Frisk to navigate the rest of the Ruins yourself. You protected Frisk through the battle, taking the damage since you were thick-skinned. Frisk seemed happy with your adventures, befriending the monsters you faced.

As you walked along, almost reaching your destination, you found an odd monster. Before you, resting on a pile of leaves, a ghost swaying lightly wearing headphones. His eyes were closed and he didn't seem to notice you, though he seemed harmless as well.

"Hey, uh, excuse me? Can you please move?" You asked softly.

Not hearing your request, the ghost still swung around smoothly. You sighed, rolling your head backwards. You looked at Frisk, shrugging. He snickered, wagging his finger at you. "Watch and learn." He chimed.

You raised a brow and watched Frisk as he jumped to action. Using his graceful moves, he twisted gently towards the ghost. You watched with both pride and awe as he twirled with the ghost. The spirit seemed to feel Frisk's presence and opened his eyes. He seemed distraught as Frisk smiled, doing one of his drill dances with him. They both danced, the ghost's expression getting lighter.

He began to smile as tears fell from his eyes, defying gravity and creating a hat for him. You smiled, watching as they slowed and ended there dance. Each bowed, as per proper dance etiquette. The headphones disappeared and he smiled at Frisk.

"Wow, you dance really well." The ghost said. "My name is Napstablook."

"Hi! My name is Frisk, and she's (Y/N)!" Frisk said, smiling brightly.

Napstablook turned and looked at you shyly. A light blue blush dusted his face. "Oh! I didn't notice someone watching us. Hello (Y/N). What's your style?" He asked casually.

You furrowed your brow. "What's my... style?"

He blushed more and nodded. "Y-yeah. How do you dance?"

You sat silent, confused by his question. He asked the question like it was common. Frisk noticed your hesitation, and jumped to your rescue.

"(Y/N) doesn't dance. She performs!" He chimed.

"Oh, that's cool." Napstablook said. He looked at you and Frisk, making an 'oh' face. "I apologize for being in the way." He said. "I'll just go."

Frisk tried to stop him but he was gone faster than the other man when the boyfriend comes home early. Frisk seemed disappointed but you moved him along. A few more puzzles and a lot of walking later, you found a quaint looking home.

Hidden behind a bush of golden flowers, Toriel worked happily, picking a bouquet of flowers. You approached her and cleared your throat, grabbing her attention. She looked at you and jumped up.

"Oh my children! You have arrived! Sorry for leaving you on such short notice. My surprise took longer than expected." She blurted.

"It's fine, no problem here." You reassured.

Frisk nodded in agreement and smiled. Toriel sighed with relief standing. "Well, follow me! I've made you a treat!"

Frisk squealed and followed Toriel right on her tail. You trailed behind them, smiling at Frisk's excitement. As you followed, you noticed how fluidly Toriel moved. She was light on her feet and moved like morning fog. Was everyone in the Underground this graceful?

She sat you in the living room and presented plates of mystery pie. You lifted a fork and started on the pie, rendering yourself pleasantly confused by the flavor. Frisk was elated with the treat, devouring it at an inhumane rate.

You laughed. He moved with the grace of a cloud with the precision of a sniper, yet when he wasn't dancing he was just a child. He still had his childhood ahead of him. He just had to keep the innocence he had kept in tact so well. You wouldn't let a terrible fate ruin his place in society. You wouldn't let him loose the love he felt for his passion. You had limited your passion, becoming exclusive and secretive of it. His gift would be shared, just as his passion would be praised.

That's why you needed to protect him, so he'd find his happy ending.
