Chapter 2

10 Years Later

You woke up with a start, groaning and holding the side of your waist. You looked around and remembered that you had fallen off a roof as you were being chased, a pile of rubbish was the only thing to break your fall. You E/C orbs fell onto some stolen goods resting by you.

"Shit!" you grumbled while scrambling up off the hard ground and collecting the items. Just in time because only about 10 or so MPs and Garrison's were on your ass. Eh it wasn't that many... just the usual amount today. Nothing too drastic, you thought.

You mumbled some incoherent words and ran in the opposite direction with your goods. Despite running away to the underground after your mom died, life was worse. You had to steal everyday, you made unspeakable deals with people to get food or to survive either way, but one thing you enjoyed about it was, after getting the attention of any military sector, you could finish off a majority of them. Impossible, right? No. After watching your own mother get murdered, you swore to get your vengeance. By eliminating each and everyone of them. Of course it wasn't easy at first, after all you were just a kid at the time with no experience with killing or even handling a knife. But 10 years is plenty of time for practicing.

Once you were decent and had a few things down, your mind had gotten the better of you, killing every single thing that even looked like it had an MP jacket. Even if you weren't an MP, if you looked like one, tough luck. You're dead.

That's how you got a bit of a reputation. On the other hand, you used your free time to be one of the most notorious thugs in the Underground. Goodbye innocence.

You took a sharp turn into a dark alleyway, hearing the familiar shouts. The ones you've been hearing for the past 10 years. The ones you've loathed. The ones you heard after they killed your mother.

You couldnt see a thing but kept running. After about 10 years you were pretty sure you knew your way around. The underground was a large place and you were pretty sure you hadn't explored the entirety of it yet.

The squad was right behind you. Shit. You turned right, ran some more, and then turned left. You thought you were in the lead, laughing as you flipped the ones who managed to keep up with you.

"You guys just don't learn do you? Ten long years and you still can't catch me! Come on, I'm even going easy on you! All you have to do is catch me and I'm all yours!" you taunted, turning around and running backwards.

"I think I just did." a voice from behind you said.

You bumped into him, well more like slammed into the dark figure. You fell down onto the hard ground, dust rising up around you as you had a pissed off yet slightly surprised look on your face. Before you could jump back up and start running again 2 soldiers grabbed you by the arms, restraining you. More soldiers landed some of them in green cloaks.

"You're... You're them..."

"The Survey Corps? Yeah. And you're just a little girl."

"No I'm not! Let me go! Now!" you started struggling and kicking, soon being able to get free from their grasp. You jumped at the figure as he pulled out his blades and readied himself. Kicking under his legs, dodging his attacks, performing an up knee, and going behind him to do an elbow strike. He quickly dodged it, grabbed your arm and threw you to the ground. You grabbed your spare knife, yes you had a spare, and jumped back up.

"Die you filthy bastards!" you screamed.

The man grabbed your wrist and twisted it slowly. "Your pretty strong for a little gir-"

"I'm not a little fucking girl!!" you caught him off guard by stabbing him in the hand. The other soldiers were wide-eyed and one quickly grabbed you again, 2 others joining in. They pushed you to ground as the cloaked figure held his hand and chuckled. "No ones ever hit me before, you would be the first. Congratulations. But that still doesn't change the fact you're a dirty little criminal," You glared at the man as he pulled off his hood, revealing a tall blonde with blue, piercing eyes. His face was grim yet the slightest bit of amusement etched on his face. "But, considering your strength and speed, I'm willing to make a deal with you. One I made with someone a while back." he paused and held his hand.

"Well? What the hell is it?" you spat.

"I can drop you charges... If you join the Survey Corps."

"Excuse me? Why would I do that? If you mean I go there and kill everyone, then I like this plan let's do it!" you said hopefully.

"Um... no killing your comrades."

"You mean the son's of bitches who killed my mom? Tch. You military scum are all the same."

"Yes or no?" he inquired.

"If I refuse?"

"Let's just say you won't be treated very nicely." he replied.

"I'd rather die. Besides it's typical for you military brats to manipulate people to do what you want. But not me. So try what you want but I wont do it. Never in a million years. Kill me for all I care but I wouldn't even DREAM of joining you after what you did to my mom after she stole one little thing to make sure we wouldn't STARVE to death."

He seemed not to care. "Well a crime is a crime... Anyways, if you don't decide to join, you'll be held prisoner and we'll give you 3 days to decide whether or not you can join. I admire your strength uh..."

"Y/N" you exasperated.

"Y/N, and I'm Erwin Smith."

"Pleasure." you grimaced.

"So you're answer is still no? We could use your wits and stre-"

"I'm flattered but no. How does this benefit me in any fucking way?"

"Your charges will be dropped and you'll be able to live rather than throwing your life away."

"Which is exactly what you survey corps members do with those damned titans."

"It's for humanity!"

"Yeah and I'm a fucking princess. You're not gonna stop bugging me about this, are you?" you pointed out, your head still to the ground.

"Glad you noticed, nope,"

"Oh my god fine I'll join your damn occult."

"Good choice."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only other things you remembered was being escorted out of the underground (trying very hard not to kill anyone) in your dirt-stained clothes, the yellow and orange hues hitting your face for the first time in almost 10 years. You had a tiny flame of joy in your heart. It was lighting up what little happiness you had left in you. You silently beamed as you sauntered over to the awaiting carriage. Erwin was already sitting down and peering at you. You draw in cautiously before settling on the opposite side.

The carriage starts to move when Erwin signals to the driver. The ride lasts for a while, you take that time to stare out of the window. It wasn't much but the sight was more than enough. Citizens walking around, little kids chasing after each other, and people living normal, happy lives. The part that made you clearly disgusted was the families. Sickeningly happy. Still, you were secretly jealous. Mostly mad at your mom for leaving you, but jealous of those who still had a family. Jealous of those who weren't affected by the MPs demeanor. You turned you outstretched neck back towards Erwin's curious eyes. "You look like this is the first time you seen society.."

All you did was mouth some... not so nice words.

He nodded and leaned back into the comfy as hell seat. You leaned back too and tried your hardest not too, but soon dozed off. You jerked up every few minutes, looking around, then falling back asleep. Not even one inch of peacefulness or relaxation showed on your sleeping form.

You barely got 10 minutes of sleep by the time you arrived, not that much but better than nothing. It actually took you a few minutes to wake you up. Usually, you were a very light sleeper, but, with the guarantee of your safety and dropping of your charges, somehow, you could relax just a little. Even though you didn't want to show it and even though you still didn't trust them.

"Y/N? Y/N we're here." someone started to shake you, assuming it was Erwin, you flipped him off.

"Shut the fuck up before I slap your eyebrows into a chinstrap. Now let me sleep you fucking dumbass nerd!"

You heard silence for a minute until Erwin mumbled something to probably one of his comrades. Not being able to comprehend what he said, you continued to hibernate. That is, until, you were dragged out of your slumber by one of the cadets. "WHAT THE ACTUAL FLYING FUCK I SWEAR TO GOD I CURSE YOU TO THE END OF TIME IN THE NAME OF WALL MARIA YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST DRAG ME OUT OF A CARRIAGE WHILE IM ASLEEP WELL YOU THOUGHT WRONG YOU MOTHERFUCKING BASTARD I HOPE YOU DIE WITH YOUR FAT DAMNED EYE-"

"Y/N we're here, calm down."

"We are?"

"Yes," Erwin retorted, he seemed to be unscathed by your outrage but the others who surrounded him, including the ones who ran up to see what was going on, were clearly taken aback by this "new girl". "Everyone, this is Y/N, she's from the underground, kind of like Captain Levi, she has incredible strength and I have decided to let her join the Survey Corps. The thing is, I feel she isn't safe around just anyone for now, so Hanji, I am trusting her under your supervision" Erwin explained to the surrounding soldiers.

"Yessir!" a girl with auburn hair, glasses, and a very eager expression ran up.

"Y/N this is Hanji, she'll be supervising you until you can manage not to kill any of the cadets."

"Well fuck you too, Eyebrows."

"Wait killing her comrades?" Hanji exclaimed. "Hold on... are you THE Y/N? Like the underground revenge mass murderer?"

"Guilty. And hey, I don't kill unless I have a reason. Which I do. But, do you by chance just kill anyone without reason?"

Hanji shook her head. "Good but I'll keep an eye on you four-eyes. I can't trust anyone."

"You trusted me," Erwin said from behind you.

"Erwin, can you please go fuck yourself?"

Hanji just stared at you and started laughing. "What the hell is so funny?" you demanded from the hysterical girl.

"Wow! You really are something, Y/n. I can't believe the resemblance between you two! Oh my god!" Hanji giggled.

"Resemblance between who? What the fuck are you talking about?" you hissed.

"Captain Levi of course! You two are so alike!"

"Who the fuck is captain Levi?"

"Ahem... Y/n as much as we would love to hear your rainbow of vocabulary, I think it's time Hanji shows you to the barracks." Erwin interrupted. You turned your head, your H/c hair whipping you in the face. Erwin took a look at your poor excuse for clothes too. "And a shower. Or two." he mumbled that last part.

"Excuse me?"

"Nothing. I said nothing."

"That's what I thought."

"Um... Y/n the barracks are this way..." Hanji pointed to the opposite direction.

"Right. I knew that," you swing around and approach the brunette with a grim expression. Hanji shook her head and lead you to the right direction with soldiers scrambling away from you. The sun had just begun to set with orange and pinks rising up and covering the blue sky. You took a moment to stare, but by the time you looked over at Hanji, she was halfway to a large building. Trudging after her, you mumbled to yourself.

Hanji was holding open the door for you falter into the dark room. Your tired eyes traveled the space. The bouncy figure came up by you. Does she ever calm down? "Most of the trainees are already in their bunks or eating dinner. Some of them take the time to train some more too. You have to wake up around 5 AM, get ready and be out on the training grounds around 5:30. After about 3 hours of morning training, breakfast will be served in the mess hall, after that you do hand to hand combat, vertical maneuvering equipment training, lunch, a little bit of free time, more training, and dinner is served about 2 hours later." Hanji explained.

You nodded as she showed you to the first room. "You'll be in this room. Well I guess you will because this is the only available one. I mean, I didn't even know you were coming obviously! There's an empty bed over in the corner." Hanji points to the barren, light grey bed standing alone in a dark corner. You walk straight over and plop down on it. "Ow my ass!" The bed was hard, pretty much solid. "Welcome to the military life sister," Hanji laughed while crossing her arms, an amused smile on her face.

"Well the military life is a bitch." You snarled, glaring at the poor excuse of a bed.

"Get used to it." She mused.

"Do you want me to "accidentally" snap your neck?"

Hanji laughed out loud, "Oh god I love this girl! I can't wait for her to meet Captain Shorty!"

"Um.. I still have no idea who you're screaming about." You set a threatening glare on the girl.

"Ahh of course! Nobody told you?"

All you could do was let out a frustrated sigh and wait for Hanji to continue.

"Well, The captain is know as humanity's strongest to most people which he kinda is. But in my opinion, he's just a really short man with anger issues. He loves to clean, he also treats the cadets pretty bad, I guess it's just to toughen them up or something but the most interesting thing about him is he used to be an underground thug. Just like you! " Hanji explains, trying not to laugh.

"Is his name Levi? The one you were talking about earlier?"

"That's the one!"

You made an "uh huh" sound and said, "He sounds like a bitch."

Hanji gasped, "No ones ever said that about the captain!" She laughed again and made her way over to you. "Y/n I think we're gonna be friends."

You pretended like it was nothing, but inside, you were kinda excited to have a friend. "Yeah yeah." You looked down trying to hide the smallest smile on your face. Hanji continued to ramble on, something about titans, until a few girls walked in, one with a brown ponytail and some potatoes in her hands, a small girl with long blond hair and blue eyes next to a stoic girl with shoulder length, black hair. "Oh! Squad Leader Hanji!" The three stopped in front of her and did a salute. "At ease," Hanji teased.

The three went back to a more natural stance. "So I have to do that to my superiors?" you groan and run your hands down your face. "That's to much damn work!"

The girls fixed their eyes on you, "Y/n these are some of the cadets that you'll be sharing your room with. The girl with the potatoes is Sasha Blouse, The short girl is Historia Reiss, and the quiet, sorta emo one is Mikasa Ackerman. Girls, this is Y/n, she'll be training with us from now on."

"Hi!" Sasha piped, taking a bite of her potato.

"H-hi," Historia gave a weak smile.

Mikasa stayed quiet. "Well nice to meet you too, Mikasa." you mumbled.

"Heh she doesn't talk much," Hanji explained, earning a small glare from the stoic girl. "Hey you guys have a little in common I guess. Even though you haven't even met the captain, yet, Y/n you both don't like him equally!"

Mikasa peered over at you, matching her grim face you nod. She gave a hint of a smile a went to her bed. The other girls went too waving some and talking excitedly. A few more filed in, some ignoring you and some giving quizzical looks over at you.

"Well I'll leave you to settle in, see you in the morning, Y/n, bright and early!" Hanji walked out, her messy ponytail swaying back and forth. You groan once more and lay down on the bed, forgetting it was solid as a rock, "OW SON OF A BI-" At that moment, it was as if a thousand eyes were on you. You sigh, "I'm just gonna go take a shower..." you mumble quietly. You walk out and turn right, "Um the showers are that way!" someone called out, their finger pointing to the long hall on the left. "I knew that!"

A satisfied groan left your lips as you stepped out of the shower with a white towel wrapped around you, a warm aura rising from the hot steam. "I could get used to this" now all you needed was the sleep that had haunted you for years. Just a full eight hours. That's all you needed. Considering how you believed live had a bone to pick with you, that refreshing sleep was not coming anytime soon. It took a while for you to find the bunks, taking too many wrong turns, opening the wrong doors, you even opened the door that lead to the room where the guys slept. After letting out a frustrated scream, you seriously considered sleeping on the floor in the middle of the hall. After some more wrong turns and continuous banging of your head on the walls, you finally found the room. After finding your bed, you passed out on it, not giving a damn about anyone or anything except sleep.

You woke up, stretching until you heard a satisfying snap. You yawned and closed your eyes, slowly being dragged back to your sleep. "Y/N IT'S WAKE UP TIME!" a voice, probably Hanji, screamed in your ear. You fell out of the bed onto the floor, startled and flipped the young woman off. "HANJI WHAT THE FUCK."

"You're late!"

"For what?" you yawned again and stood up, trying your hardest not to slap the girl to tomorrow.

"For breakfast, of course! You have 20 minutes, chop chop!" Hanji lay a uniform on your bed and walked out. "I'll be waiting!"

You mumbled some "not so nice words" to the girl and slipped on the short, light brown jacket with the badge of the Wings Of Freedom, as Erwin called it, on both shoulders, on the front left pocket and on the center of the back, a light-colored shirt, a dark brown sash around the waist covering the hips, white pants, and dark brown knee-high leather boots. After letting your H/l, H/c hair fall on your back, you walked out, your prize stoic expression resting on your slightly tired face. "Finally! I've been waiting for like an hour" she accentuated the time and lead you and your glare to the mess hall. The place was surprisingly clean, top to bottom, and the mess hall almost sparkling. You walked in, surveying the area, seeing the typical soldiers socializing and eating what looked like bread and soup. Your E/c orbs landed on a steel eyed stranger who sat at the head of a table in the back, superiors sitting in the empty seats around it and scanning the room. So this was Captain Levi, he stared at you with the same exact stoic expression you had on his face. "That's the captain?" you whisper to Hanji who nodded and grabbed your hand. "You two should meet!"

"Wait what?"

Too late. The over excited woman dragged you over to the table, the superior's eyes now fixed on you. "I don't want to meet the damn shorty!" you hissed.

"What was that, brat?" Hanji stopped and smiled at the captain, who was now standing and heading towards you.

"Levi, this is Y/n. She's basically your twin."

"I am not!"

You whipped your head back to the shortstack after punching hanji in the arm. "He's so short oh my god." you whispered to Hanji, she nodded in approval. "Did you hear that Levi? She hasn't even met you and she's already called you short!" You cross your arms and roll your eyes at the girl. Levi burned a hole through her head with a glare. "Oh and she also called you a bitch!" Cue the gasps. You didn't notice, but the whole entire room was fixated on the scene.

"She said what?" Levi growled, turning his gaze back to you. A very pissed off one, in fact. "I said you were a bitch. God are you deaf?"

"Now listen here you little shit, I am your superior and you don not talk to me like that," he grabs your collar, "I will not tolerate this disrespect."

"Do you thing I give a shit? Why not you go accidentally drink bleach or something and do not touch me!" Levi kept his stoic expression while you grabbed his wrist and tried to pry it off of you. Levi threw you to the ground, "What the FUCK was that for you damn sadist?!"

"This is just my cherished opinion, but I think that pain is the most effective means of discipline. What I think you need right now is not lecturing, but precept. And since you're on your knees, you're in just the right position to be easily kicked." Levi warned, inching closer to you.

"My god I've barely been here for five minutes and I've already been attacked by a dwarf!"

"Tch, brat say that one more time."

"Say what one more time? The fact that you're an angry midget with emotional issues?"

That did it. Levi slapped you. He SLAPPED you. "Next time you should keep your dirty little mouth shut, brat. You're lucky I don't call Erwin to charge you for assaulting a superior."

"The cherry on top of my large deli-fucking-licious sundae. Drop dead!" you growl and lunge on top of the small man, getting ready to punch the daylights out of him. He grabbed your wrist but you quickly raised the other and brought it down to his stoic face, before you could make any contact, Hanji jumped in. "Okay that's enough you two! Playtime's over for today." Hanji winked at you as you stood up and brushed off some imaginary dirt. Levi got back up, "I don't get why Erwin let her come here. Total disrespect. Tch."

"Why did he let you here, I wonder?" you said with mock enthusiasm. "After all you were a thug just like me."

"Who told you that?"

"Our very own Hanji Zoe that's who."

"Hanji I swear to god I am going to kill you later."

Hanji backed up with an awkward smile on her face and brought you with her. "Ooh better not lose your temper, Levi." you taunted and flicked his nose.

"I swear to god touch me one more time and-"

"And you'll what? Mop me to death?" A few chuckles were heard, supposedly from the other cadets. Levi glared at the table where it came from which Mikasa sat at with two other boys, one with black hair and one with blond hair and they shut up immediately. "Wow what a hold you have on the kids here. Disgusting. And you're what? Like 12?"

"Excuse me?"

"You're excused."

"I don't give out my age to inferior children." (yeah ima make him 20 something in here)

"But aren't you one too?" You tilted your head, just waiting for the man to explode.

Levi glared daggers at you, a look you got a lot so you returned it. A glare that made most superiors tremble in their boots but not Levi. He said what he had in his mind, never smiled, and was a major bitch to everyone. Kinda like you.

Shit.
