Chapter Twenty One: Hungry (Part One)

(A/N I had to split this up to two chapters and I'm probably going to do that for a lot of the big ones. Enjoy.)

Okay, this is a gross one, but also an interesting one.

It was Valentine's day, and yes, I was without a Valentine (Cass hadn't asked me and I certainly was not going to be the one to do the asking—I figured he didn't even know or understand the concept of valentines day to begin with), but even more important, we had a case. A very disturbing case, but a case nonetheless.

A couple had eaten each other, and I don't mean that in the sexual way. They literally ate each other, full on cannibalism. Sam had went to interview the witness as Dean and I went to the coroners to check out the corpses. Dean seemed disgusted, but I was just intrigued, getting up close and personal as I used gloves to look at anything I could, poking their stomachs, which were inflated they were so full. It was disgusting, but it made me wonder how they could do this.

We were going to meet back up with Sam at the motel when I got an idea. Dean and I were waiting for him so I sat on the bed, crossing my legs as I closed my eyes.

~

Suddenly I wasn't even in the motel room, instead in a white room. I looked around, kind of impressed as I stood from my spot on the floor.

"Rhett?" I heard and turned to see Cass, smiling as I went to hug him but stopped myself, clearing my throat.

"Um, hi Cass." I said and waved awkwardly.

"We're soul mates, Rhett. You're allowed to hug me." he said and I nodded, hugging him for a moment before pulling back. "What did you want to discuss?" he asked and I bit my lip.

"Well, it's Valentine's day, as you may know..." I trailed off and he looked slightly confused as to where the conversation was going. "And I don't have a valentine, obviously..." I tried to hint for him to ask me, but he still seemed lost. I sighed and shook my head. "Never mind, this was a stupid idea." I muttered, about to leave before I felt him cup my cheeks and kiss me. My eyes widened, even though we'd done this before. I slowly leaned into the kiss and kissed back, wrapping my arms around his neck as I stood a little bit on my tippy toes. How could he do this to me?

Once we pulled away, I was breathless. We just stared at each other for a moment before he looked down and vanished. I sighed and decided to leave as well. Nothing more for me here anyway.

~

I gasped back into reality as I noticed Sam was now there. Him and Dean both turned to looked at me and I just smiled brightly at them, deciding some things were better kept to myself. Sam nodded and looked away, as did Dean.

"Ghost possession and demonic possession are both probably out." Sam said, finishing whatever he had been saying before my gasp interrupted him. Dean hummed.

"That's where I was putting my money." he said and I tried to think of what it could be, coming up with nothing. There weren't any objects on them that could've been cursed and I didn't even know how they could've done it if they both didn't want to.

"Nope." Sam confirmed, bringing me out of my thoughts as I looked at them.

"Maybe it's some kinky cult thing," I said and they both gave me a solid bitch face each, to which I raised my hands in defense, "Well, what else could it be?" I asked as Dean stretched and rubbed his eyes, probably needing sleep but Sam and I both knew he wouldn't get it.

"Oh, dude! At the coroners--you didn't see these bodies. I mean, these two started eating a-and they just...kept going. I mean, their stomachs were full. Like--like...Thanksgiving-Dinner full." Dean described, looking like he was going to be sick, which made me hold in a laugh. "Talk about co-dependent."

I stood and moved to one of the chairs at the table as Sam sat in the other one.

"Well..." he sighed. "I mean, we got our feelers out. Not much more we can do tonight." he said before inhaling. "All right. I'm just gonna go through some files. You two can go ahead and get going." he said and I furrowed my eyebrows at him, wondering what he meant by that.

"Sorry?" Dean asked as I asked, "What?"

"Go ahead. Unleash the kraken. A-And you probably have something going on with Cass. See you tomorrow morning." he said to Dean and then me. I understood what he meant, knowing that Valentine's day was normally Dean's favorite holiday, but I just slumped down in my seat.

"Where am I going?" Dean asked, still not getting it and I snorted slightly.

"Dean, it's Valentine's Day. You're favorite Holiday, remember?" Sam reminded Dean, and I raised an eyebrow at him, wondering why he seemed so out of it. "I mean, what do you always call it--uh, unattached drifter Christmas?" he said and Dean nodded.

"Yeah." he scoffed, turning around and standing with a sigh. "Oh, yeah. Well... Be that as it may..." he trailed off, grabbing a beer from a cooler and I snatched it from him, making him glare as he got another one before shaking it off and continuing what he was saying. "I don't know." he twisted off the cap and threw it behind his shoulder as he leaned against the counter. "Guess I'm not feeling it this year."

"Who are you and what have you done with my brother?" I asked, popping open my beer before gulping down a lot, keeping my eyes locked and narrowed on him as Sam scoffed.

"So you're not into bars full of lonely women?" he asked. Dean did this frown thing and shrugged.

"Nah, I guess not." he said, drinking his own beer, and I almost spit mine out at that reply. Sam and I glanced at each other before looking back at him as he gave us both an annoyed face. "What?" he asked, annoyance in his voice.

"It's when a dog doesn't eat--that's when you know something's really wrong." Sam said and I stood up, pressing the back of my hand to Dean's forehead as if looking for a fever before he waved me off.

"Remarkably patronizing concern duly noted. Nothing's wrong. We gonna work or what? And what about you and Cass?" he asked me and I frowned.

"Yep, let's work." I said, not answering him. Not that I wouldn't love to spend my Valentine's Day with him, I just didn't want him to be confused and me to have to explain. It would be... Too much and way too embarrassing.

~

There had been another double suicide, so Sam, Dean, and I were at the coroners to investigate them. Sam had some weird stare off with some guy, which made me worry about him a bit, but he seemed fine afterwards. We met the dude who'd already put most of the victims organs in a freezer before he left and told us we had to close up.

We were currently looking at some of the organs and I looked at a heart, grinning as I looked up at my brothers, sliding the container over to them.

"Be my Valentine?" I asked, grinning ear to ear. Sam bitch faced and Dean tried to hide a smile before I pulled the heart back to look at it some more, my eyes widening as I noticed a familiar marking on it. "Sam. Heart." I snapped and he slid it to me. I looked at them both and knew he'd figured it out when I heard him go, "Oh, no."

"What?" Dean asked, trying to look at the hearts.

"It's enochian." I confirmed, but I couldn't read it or figure out why it was there.

"You mean like angel scratches?" Dean asked and I nodded, taking off my gloves as I reached into my pocket, pulling out my phone. "So you think it's like the tagging on our ribs?" he asked again and I shrugged, dialing the only number I knew that could help before holding it to my ear.

"Can't you just ask him in your mind and he'll be here?" Sam asked, not understanding the whole soul mate thing and I looked at him.

"One, that's not how it works, but probably. Two, let me have this, Sam." I said and he nodded, holding his hands up in defense as I looked away, waiting for Cass to answer.

"Hello?" I heard and smiled before quickly going back to being straight faced.

"Hi Cass." I said.

"Rhett? What is it? Has something happened? Do I need to be there?" he asked and I looked down, smiling again at how adorably protective he was.

"You can find me, right? Just show-" I stopped as I looked up and saw him in front of me, jumping slightly. "...Up." I finished.

"I'm there now." he said, looking into my eyes and I nodded.

"I can see that." I said as we both still held the phones to our ears.

"I'm gonna hang up now." he said and I nodded.

"Yep." I said and we both lowered the phones, hanging up and putting them away before I glanced at my brothers. Stay professional, Rhett! I held out my hand to shake his before realizing that was stupid and smoothly moving it up to run it through my hair, hoping none of them had caught that.

"Wow..." Dean said, most definitely catching it as he shook his head.

"Hearts!" I shouted, glaring at Dean before grabbing Cass' arm and pulling him to the hearts. "The markings on these hearts. They're enochian, aren't they?" I asked and Dean began snickering beside me, to which I kicked his shin, making him grunt as Cass narrowed his eyes at us before shaking his head and picking up one of the hearts without putting on gloves. What a dare devil (note the sarcasm).

"I'm not a... Dare devil." Cass said, reading my mind as I frowned and Sam and Dean smirked at me. After examining the hearts, Cass confirmed what I already knew. "You're right, Rhett. These are angelic marks. I imagine you'll find similar marks on the couple's hearts as well." he said.

"So, what are they? I mean, what do they mean?" Sam asked as I looked over Cass' shoulder to look at the hearts, having to stand a little bit on my tippy toes.

"It's a mark of union." Cass sighed and I looked at him with furrowed eyebrows. "This man and woman were intended to mate." he explained, putting the heart back down before trying to flick the heart juice off his hands.

"That's why we wear gloves." I mumbled and he looked at me, almost confused before Dean began to speak.

"Okay, but who put them there?" Dean asked and Cass wiped his fingers off on the sides of the container, making me hold in a laugh once again.

"Well, your people call them "Cupid"." he said and my eyes went wide a bit.

"A what?" Sam asked, shook.

"What human myth has mistaken for "Cupid" is actually a lower order of angel. Technically it's a cherub, third-class." he said, confusing me to hell as he walked away and almost refused to look at us as he spoke dramatically. My guess was that cupids, or cherubs, and maybe some different types of angels were third class, warriors like Cass were second, and Archangels like Gabriel and Michael were first, but then again, what would I know.

"Cherub?" Dean asked, confused.

"Yeah, they're all over the world. There are dozens of them." he said and I began to slightly understand, but I was still a little lost.

"You mean the little flying fat kid in diapers?" Dean asked, trying to wrap his head around the idea. Cass turned back around and looked at Dean in confusion.

"They're not incontinent." he said and I snorted a laugh but quickly covered my mouth as I bit my lip.

"Okay, anyways. So what you're saying-" Sam tried.

"What I'm saying is a Cupid has gone rogue. And we have to stop him--before he kills again." Cass said, raising his voice slightly as he walked back over to us, leaning a little bit over the table. I frowned a bit and looked between them all before shutting my eyes.

~

This time I was back in a pretty garden, that made the anxiety that I was feeling inside vanish almost completely. I didn't know why Cass raising his voice got so under my skin, but it did pretty much every time.

"Rhett?" I heard and sighed.

"Sorry. I'll come back to the real world, I just wanted to... not be in the real world for a minute." I said, trying not to face Cass, but he walked in front of me, putting his hands on my shoulders to keep me from turning away.

"Are you okay?" he asked, frowning and I nodded.

"Of course I am. I'm always okay." I said, putting on a fake smile, but I knew he could read right through me.

"You know I can read your thoughts." he said.

Big pink elephant. Big pink elephant.

"Stop thinking about big pink elephants." he said again.

"Stop trying to read my mind."

~

I gasped back into the real world again to see the boys standing by the door while Cass just looked blank, looking around after a moment without gasping like he knew how to control it much better (which he most likely did), and shaking his head as he looked at me, narrowing his eyes as if trying to figure me out.

Big pink elephant.

~

"So, what, you just happen to know he likes the cosmos at this place?" Dean asked as a waitress brought us food, but I wasn't very hungry. I didn't know if it was because of me being part angel or not, I just didn't really want the food.

"This place is a nexus of human reproduction. It's exactly the kind of..." Cass trailed off as he stared at Dean who was squirting ketchup on his burger while I just kind of stared at mine, pushing it to Dean a little, "...of garden the cupid will come to--to pollinate." Cass said slowly, staring at the food, making me hold in a giggle. Dean then picked up the burger and right before he went to bite into it, he paused and just... stared at it, then put it down on his plate and pushed it away. I didn't know why we were both not hungry now, but as I looked up at Cass I felt something draw me closer to him as I slid a little closer.

"Wait a minute." Sam said, slightly grinning at us both. "You two are not hungry?" he asked and I smirked.

"Hungry for something else." I whispered and my eyes went wide as I covered my mouth. "I didn't say that and you three didn't hear that." I added quickly as I felt my face heat up.

"Okay, gross. And no, to answer you." Dean said, shaking his head as he tried to get the image out of his head. Sam gave him a skeptical look. "What? I'm not hungry." Dean defended himself quickly.

"Then you're not gonna finish that?" Cass asked, pointing at both his and my burgers before grabbing the plates and moving them to him. I smiled, leaning closer as I rested my head on his shoulder. WHat was I doinG?

But I didn't want to pull away, so I didn't. Cass went to eat the burger before stopping and putting it down again.

"He's here." he said simply and I pulled away to look around while unconsciously putting my hand on his chest, playing with his tie.

"Where? I don't see anything." Sam replied, looking just as intensely as me as I noticed my fingers toying with his tie and I wanted to pull away, but I couldn't. I saw Cass narrow his eyes as he noticed something; a gush of wind blowing a napkin onto someone.

"There." he said and I looked at them as they began to make out.

"You mean the same-side-of-the-booth couple over there?" Dean asked and I glared at him as I was on the same side of the booth as Cass.

"Meet me in the back." Cass said and since I was holding onto him, when he zapped himself to the back, I came with. I immediately pulled on his tie, making him lean down a bit as I crashed my lips onto his and he kissed back for a hot minute before pulling away. "The cupid." he reminded me and I pouted, but let him go. I didn't even know why I was acting like this...

When the boys met us, Cass was facing a wall with his arm extended as I leaned against a pillar with my arms crossed, still pouting like a five year-old that didn't get what they wanted for their birthday.

"Cass, Rhett, where is he?" Sam asked and I shrugged.

"Angel boy knows." I mumbled and Cass seemed to glance at me confused before returning his focus to whatever he was doing.

"I have him tethered." he answered and I nodded. Then he started speaking in some other language, most likely enochian, but he hadn't taught me that yet... "Zodah kama mahrana." he spoke. "Manifest yourself." he added.

And nothing happened.

"Bit anticlimactic." I said and pushed myself off of the pillar.

"So where is he?" Dean asked, confused. Suddenly, a totally nude man appeared behind him and hugged him tightly, picking his feet up off the ground.

"Here I am!" he said excitedly, shaking Dean around and my eyes widened as I began to back away in fear, covering my eyes. I did not need to see more of this cupid than I had of my own soul mate, thank you.

"Sam, I'm scared." I said, making my way to him, moving my hands and hugging him so I wouldn't have to see as the cupid began laughing.

"Help!" Dean said, his voice sounding strained.

"Oh, help is on the way. Yes, it is. Yes, it is." the cupid said like he was talking to a puppy, which was pretty accurate, then started giggling once again. Suddenly it stopped and I looked up to see him drop Dean, looking at Cass. "Hello, you!" he said and pushed past Dean to hug Cass, which made me grimace just a little. Cass let out a grunt and looked basically done with everything as he was picked up as well.

"This is Cupid?" Dean asked, sounding fearful.

"Yes." Cass answered, his voice strained as well. The cupid put him down and turned to me and Sam and I moved away to make sure he was looking at Sam more than me, holding my hand up so that I could see, but covered his junk.

"And look at you, huh?" Cupid asked, walking to Sam, who looked absolutely mortified.

"No." he said simply and shook his head as the Cupid walked up to him, nodding.

"Yes!" he exclaimed happily. Sam turned around, mumbling, "no"s, but it didn't make a difference as the cupid zapped in front of him and hugged him anyways.

"Yes, yes, yes!" he said and I knew what came next, and I was not looking forward to it.

"Is this a fight? Are we in a fight?" Dean asked Cass, also terrified as Cass walked closer to us.

"This is... their handshake." Cass said.

"I don't like it." Dean said, still confused and seeming like he was trying to figure out what the Hell was going on.

"No one likes it." Cass replied and the cupid let go of Sam and looked at me, his eyes seemed to twinkle.

"You hug me, so help me, I'll call rape." I said, backing up.

"Oh, come on." he said, still grinning and I shook my head, holding out my hand to try to stop him, but he suddenly vanished and I felt someone squeeze me from behind, my eyes going wide as I looked at the boys for help.

"Penis!" I shouted and he let me go, to which I ran to the nearest person, which was Dean, grabbing his arm and hiding behind him. Now I'd not only seen, but felt that cupid and I just wanted to shower. The cupid sighed deeply and looked at us all with a big smile.

"What can I do for you?" he asked happily. To be honest, the first little bit kind of terrified me, but he didn't look like a killer.

"Why are you doing this?" Cass asked simply, straight faced and sexy. Okay, really, stop this.

"Doing what?" the cupid asked, the goofy grin never leaving his face.

"Your targets--the ones you've marked--they're slaughtering each other." Cass said and his smile faded as he thought about it.

"What?" he asked, almost sadly, with mostly shock. He definitely wasn't the one killing them, so who was? "They are?" he asked, looking at me and Dean.

"Listen, birthday suit, we know, okay? We know you've been flittin' around, poppin' people with your poison arrow-"

"Dean." I whispered, noticing the sad, almost grieving look on the cupid's face, but he didn't stop.

"-making them murder each other!" Dean shouted, not even hearing me.

"What we don't know is why." Cass said and I frowned. It obviously wasn't him, why couldn't they see that? The cupid looked at Cass, an even sadder face than before.

"You think that I..." he trailed off, his bottom lip beginning to tremble a bit. "Well, I, uh... I don't know what to say." he said, his voice breaking as he put his head in his hands and walked around us, beginning to cry.

"Dean, you're a damn idiot sometimes." I muttered, popping him over the head and he frowned.

"Should... Should somebody maybe... go talk to him?" Sam asked and I nodded, taking Cass' hand as I pulled him to the cupid. I just wanted him to be the one to get hugged if cheering up the cupid worked.

"Cupid?" I asked, pushing Cass towards him. "We didn't mean to hurt your feelings. They're just stupid and they don't see the signs right in front of them." I said, glaring at both Cass and Dean before looking back at Cupid, who turned around and grabbed Cass, hugging him and letting my plan work as Cass let out another grunt.

"Love is more than a word to me, you know. I-I love love. I love it! And if that's wrong, then I don't want to be right!" he sobbed into Cass' trench and I backed up, letting him handle it from here as he awkwardly hugged back.

"Yes, yes. Of course. I, uh... I have no idea what you're saying." Cass said, patting Cupid's back before he pulled away.

"I was just on my appointed rounds. Whatever my targets do after that, that's nothing to do with me. I-I was following my orders." Cupid said and I glanced at Sam and Dean for a moment before looking back at them as Cupid seemed to realize something. "Please, brother. Read my mind. Read my mind. You'll see." he said, patting Cass anxiously. They stared at each other for a moment before Cass turned to us all slowly.

"He's telling the truth." he said, walking over to us as Cupid let out a sigh of relief.

"Jiminy Christmas. Thank you." he said and I looked at Cass with furrowed eyebrows.

"You can read his mind too?" I asked and he nodded before standing next to me. Dean pointed at Cupid.

"Wait, wait, you said-you said you were just following orders?" he asked to make sure, walking closer to Cupid, who nodded.

"Mhm." he hummed.

"Whose orders?" Dean asked firmly and Cupid began laughing.

"Heaven, silly. Heaven." he said, literally waving off Dean's question.

"Why does Heaven care if Harry meets Sally?" Dean asked, confused.

"Oh, mostly they don't. You know, certain bloodlines, certain destinies. Oh, like yours." he explained and pointed at us and my eyes widened a bit.

"What?" Sam asked as I asked, "Huh?"

"Yeah, the union of John and Mary Winchester-very big deal upstairs, top priority arrangement." he said, crossing his eyes as he exaggerated the words before humming and nodding.

"Are you saying that you fixed-up our parents?" Dean asked, and I knew what he was thinking. It slightly worried me.

"Well, not me, but... yeah." Cupid said and chuckled. "Well, it wasn't easy, either. Ooh, they couldn't stand each other at first. But when we were done with them--perfect couple!" he said happily and I frowned, subconsciously moving closer to Cass as I thought about Mom and Dad.

"Perfect?" Dean asked.

"Yeah!" Cupid replied, a big goofy grin on his face as he nodded.

"They're dead!" Dean raised his voice and I looked down, suddenly finding my feet very interesting as Cupid lost the goofy grin.

"I'm sorry, but... the orders were very clear. You, Henrietta and Sam needed to be born. Your parents were just, uh... meant to be." he said and Dean looked at me, giving my the face that said he wanted to punch this guy in the face and I shook my head. "A match made in heaven. Heaven!" Cupid began to sing and do a little dance before Dean lost it and threw a punch, not doing anything to Cupid, but I heard something in Dean's hand pop as he immediately turned back around.

"Son of a bitch!" he exclaimed in pain.

"Dean!" I shouted at him as Cupid vanished. Sam and Dean both looked around, but if someone had punched me, I'd leave too.

"Where is he? Where'd he go?!" Dean shouted angrily.

"You punched the dude in the face, now you're wondering why he left?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at him.

"I believe you upset him." Cass said with an expression that basically said he was done with Dean's shit.

"Upset him?" Dean asked, having a pissy fit.

"Dean. Enough!" Sam said like a tired mother.

"What?" Dean asked, obviously not seeing what he had done wrong.

"You just punched a cupid!" Sam said.

"I punched a dick!" Dean retaliated.

"You punched our only lead!" I shouted over them both bickering and Sam looked at me before frowning.

"Um... Are we gonna talk about what's been up with you lately, or not?" he asked and we both looked at Dean worriedly.

"Or not." he answered and walked past us both. I frowned as Sam rolled his eyes and I turned to watch Dean leave.
