Chapter Twenty Eight: That's What You Get Working With A Demon

(A/n sorry I love Crowley)

We had started investigating anywhere that there were a lot of illness cases, looking for Pestilence. We were always two steps behind, and Bobby only knew that he was heading East and nothing more. That was until Crowley showed up, telling us he could get us Pestilence and telling Dean to hold me and Sam back from ripping his throat out. I listened, but I wasn't happy. We needed Pestilence, though, and I wasn't about to let my anger over Ellen and Jo get the better of me. He brought us to his home, which was now burnt down, gave us a sob story about how demons are looking for him and ate his tailor, then told us that he knows the demon who knows where Pestilence is. We created a plan, my brothers and I were to find said demon, bring him to Crowley's disaster of a home, and let Crowley deal with him and get Pestilence's location.

Before we went, Crowley decided to uninvite Sam, purely because he didn't like him, but also because, unlike me, Sam couldn't put his anger aside for the mission. I understood why he was angry, I was too, and I knew Dean was, but if Crowley was our only chance at Pestilence, then I wasn't going to pass it up. So we left Sam in Crowley's home, after I gave him a hug and promised him we'd be back soon.

When we got there, we first scoped out the place. Crowley said everyone on the bottom was human shields, and when we started discussing going through the back, Crowley vanished and reappeared inside, a knife in his hand as he waved to us. I immediately knew what he was going to do, so before he had the chance, I zapped right next to him and grabbed his arm, pulling it down and pulling the knife out of it. The guy he was behind must've heard, because he turned around, looking up at us.

"Who are you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"My apologies. My... Husband got a little lost. Didn't you, dear?" I asked, watching him roll his eyes as I led him back outside, meeting up with Dean, who looked incredibly worried.

"Husband?" Crowley looked at me, smirking. Now it was my turn to roll my eyes as I let go of him, pushing him towards Dean a bit.

"We do this our way, not yours. Through the back."

We found a way through the back to get to an unguarded elevator. At the last second, Crowley said he wasn't going up, but I didn't trust him near the humans by himself, so I told Dean I'd stay and watch him as long as he got the demon. I gave him a hug before telling him to go as Crowley and I stayed behind. Crowley, once again, rolled his eyes and we waited around in silence.

"How do you know it'll work?" I asked.

"I don't," he said, just as the elevator dinged again and out came a very bloody Dean. I quickly ran up to him, looking him over worriedly.

"What happened?" I asked, just as we both got hit over the head. Out stepped the demon of the hour, greeting me now. I looked up, my vision a blur, but just good enough to see when I lifted my hands and threw him back into a wall. Right afterwards, Crowley appeared by the demon, throwing a bag with a Devil's trap on it over his head, then beat him over the head with a crowbar until he went down. I let down my hands as I felt liquid run out my nose and looked between Dean(who had fallen on the floor) and Crowley(who looked very happy with his actions), moving to help Dean off the floor.

"What the hell was that?" Dean asked, grabbing onto my shoulder as he stood.

"That was perfect," Crowley responded.

"Perfect?" I asked, thinking about the very obvious blood gushing from Dean's skull.

"He didn't want the rings. He wanted me," Dean added to my confusion.

"Imagine the surprise on your face," Crowley spoke proudly.

"What?"

"Your ignorance and misinformation--I mean, completely authentic. You can't fake that," he obviously saw the anger appearing on mine and Dean's face, "What? I-It went like clockwork."

"Not for me, you son of a bitch!" Dean shouted, and Crowley pointed the crowbar at us.

"That's what you get, working with a demon."

After that we made our way back, Dean drove while I tried to attend to his wounds and Crowley carved sigils and such into the demon in the backseat.

"Hey hot stuff, watch the upholstery!" Dean called to Crowley.

"Up yours, mate," Crowley said, finishing his carving before turning to continue talking to us, "this bit of carving will tie our friend here down. No zapping off, no smoking out--locked in the meat suit... An important piece of our bargaining strategy," I rolled my eyes and leaned back in my chair, slumping down, "Now, up here, we don't want I-50, take 93 North."

"What are you talking about?" Dean asked, confused as I craned my head to look back at Crowley once more.

"Look, we can't take this guy back to your brother."

"Why not?" I asked, cocking my head to the side, an interesting feature I'd learned from Castiel himself. When Crowley didn't answer, Dean decided to prompt him by exclaiming his name.

"They got history, all right?" As soon as he comprehended the words, Dean slammed on the breaks in the middle of the road, making the car come to a quick stop as I flung forward against my seatbelt.

"You want to go anywhere, you start talking. What history?"

Well, I'll just say, it certainly wasn't going to blow over well with Sam, but he was our brother, and we had to include him, even if the demon of the hour was one of his close friends in high school. We couldn't just leave Sam in the dark.

When we got back, we let Crowley have his talk with Sam as I helped Dean tie up the demon. When Sam walked in the room, I walked up and hugged him.

"Sam,  I'm really sorry," I said softly.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"We need you to stay on mission, okay? Focused." Dean said, coming up beside me.

"I don't understand. What's all this about?"

"We're doing this 'cause we trust you, okay? We didn't want to leave you in the dark, but we need the emotions to stay at the door tonight," I said, patting Sam's shoulder.

"Trust me to what?"

"Sam?" the demon asked, finally waking up and clearing his throat, "Sam, is that you?" Dean walked over to the demon as I stayed beside Sam. He took the bag off his head and Sam finally realized who it was.

"Brady?" the demon chuckled.

"Brady hasn't been Brady in years. Not since, oh... Middle of our sophomore year?"

"What?"

"That's right. You had a devil on your shoulder, even back then," I could tell Sam was starting to freak. His breathing was getting so heavy I could see the rise and fall of his shoulders. I rested my hand on his back and massaged small circles, trying to calm him down. I knew how big of a shock this must be to him, "All right, now, let it all sink in," Brady added, dragging out the word all.

"You son of a bitch. You son of a bitch! You introduced me to Jess!" Sam started shouting, making his way towards the demon as Dean and I tried to keep him back.

"Ding, ding! I think he's got it!"

"Damn it, Sam!" Dean growled.

"I'm gonna kill you!" Sam threatened the demon.

"Sam! You need to chill out!" I added, trying to keep my cool enough to cool down his flames. Dean and I finally got him out of the room and he tried to immediately walk back in, but Dean pushed him back.

"Hey! That's enough!" Bottles clanked as Sam's feet hit them and he tried again to pass us.

"Get out of my way."

"No," Dean said sternly.

"Get out of my way, guys."

"Sam, I did not argue with Crowley the entire way here about you being able to take this just for you to prove him right!" I shouted at him.

"There is only one way to win, and it ain't by killing that thing in there," Dean added. Crowley, who I just now noticed had been standing in the corner, made his way over to us, looking between us all.

"Well... Sounds like you got him all nice and fluffed. Thanks so much," Crowley said to Sam before walking away in the direction of the room Brady Bunch was in.

"Listen to me," Dean said to Sam, "We need Pestilence to get at the Devil, and we need Brady to get to Pestilence."

"Why? Because Crowley said so? Because we trust him now? Like I trusted Ruby? Or like I trusted Brady back at school?" Sam asked angrily.

"No, Sam. Because we don't have any other leads."

Sam started to calm down at that and looked around, as if for an out. I glanced at Dean before back at him and put my hand once again on his shoulder.

"Sam, why don't we go out. Come on. We can buy healthy foods and Dean will even let you drive baby, won't you Dean?" I said, looking at Dean in a "you better say yes" way.

"Yeah, sure, that sounds like a good idea," he held up the keys and Sam took them, nodding.

"All right..."

So we went for a drive. On the way, I tried to contact Cass, to no avail. I hadn't been able to get in contact with him since he carved the angel banishing sigil on his chest. I started to wonder about if he was okay, but I couldn't let it get me down. We had bigger fish to fry before I could worry about my soul mate. We stopped by a market not too far away so if Dean needed us we could get there soon.

"Hey, I'm gonna look in whole foods, you wanna find a pie for Dean?" he asked. I nodded happily and made my way to the pie section. After, I tried to find Sam, to no avail. I bought the pie and made my way into the parking lot, only to find that Baby was gone. Damn.

I zapped myself back into place we had kept Brady. I was standing behind Sam just as Brady was talking about all the horrible things he did to Jess, how he was the one who killed her. Sam rushed up to him, holding Ruby's knife to his throat. Brady egged Sam on to kill him, and Sam sliced his throat just a little. I wanted to trust my brother, so I stood back even though I so badly wanted to pull him off. Luckily, I didn't have to as he pulled away and walked away from Brady. I walked out of that room to meet him in a different one.

"Sam?" I said softly and he turned around on his heel, looking at me as he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck.

"Hey Rhett... Look, I'm sorry about leaving you at the store-" I hugged him before he finished and pulled away.

"Just don't do it again. Also, I have pie, so where's Dean?" just when I asked, I heard him bang on the bathroom door.

"Hey! Hey! Hey! Alright! Wait. I'm gonna open it," we made our way to the bathroom just for me to see that Sam had locked him in with a chair pressed against the door under the handle. Sam opened the door to reveal a very distraught Dean. I peeked my face around Sam to look at him.

"Sorry, Dean. I didn't know. I have pie as a peace offering!" Dean looked between me and Sam as he pushed past us both.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Nothing," Sam and I said in unison.

"My ass," Dean responded as he kept walking in the direction of the room we were holding Brady.

"Dean, I'm fine," Sam assured.

"Yeah? And what about Brady?" he asked, just in time to turn into the room to see Brady very much still alive as Sam sighed.

"Like you said... We need him."

"God," I heard and we all turned around to see Crowley standing behind us, very disheveled with blood splattered on his face and his suit torn, "The day I've had," he finally walked past us and in front of Brady, "Good news. You're going to live forever," he chuckled.

"What did you do?" Brady Bunch asked.

"Went over to a demons' nest--had a little massacre. Must be losing my touch, though--let one of the little toads live. Oops," I could already see where this conversation was headed, and it could be just what we need to get this guy to talk, assuming he hadn't already by the trouble Crowley seemed to be going through to make him, "Also might have given said toad the impression that you left your post last night because you and I are--wait for it--lovers in league against Satan," I snorted a laugh at that. Look, Crowley sucks, but he sure seemed like a fun time. Brady let out a disgruntled sigh as Crowley continued, "Hello, Darling. So, now Death is off the table. Now you get to be on the boss's eternal-torment list with little old me."

"Oh, no, no, no, no, no-"

"Something else we have in common--apart from our torrid passion, of course--craven self preservation. So, now, why don't you tell me where Pestilence is at?"

Just before Brady started talking there was barking and howling in the distance before some snarling.

"Oh, God, Crowley," Brady groaned, obviously getting a little bit frightened of the noise which we could all recognize.

"Was that a hellhound?" Dean asked. Crowley listened a second more before continuing.

"I'd say yeah."

"Why was that a hellhound?" Dean asked again. Crowley reached in his suit and groaned, pulling a coin out of his pocket.

"What's that?" Sam asked.

"Remember I was telling you about my crafty little tracking device?" he asked.

"Yeah?" I said with a questioning tone.

"Demons planted one on me."

"Crowley if I die again I'm gonna haunt your ass," I threatened.

"You're saying a hellhound followed you here?" Sam asked, anger growing inside him.

"Well, act- technically, he followed this." Crowley defended himself.

"Get me out of here and I'll tell you anything you want," Brady said in fear.

"Shut up," Sam and I said to him at the same time.

"Okay, well, then we should go," Dean tried to reason.

"Sorry. No one knows more about the hounds than I. You're long past the point of "go"," with that, Crowley flipped the coin at Dean, who caught it. When we looked up again, Crowley was gone.

"Damn it!" Dean exclaimed.

"I told you!" Sam shouted.

"Oh, well, good for you," Dean retorted mockingly. I hit them both and a thought came to my head.

"There's salt in the kitchen. Dean, with me. Sam, watch Brady Bunch over there," I said, happy I finally said the name I'd given him out loud. Brady started to say something smug and I pointed at him, "And you, shut up," with that I pulled Dean in the direction of the kitchen. I saw the table salt, but before I could get to it, the window bashed in as the hellhound jumped in the room. I backed up into Dean, "Back. Go Back. Now,"

I watched as Dean picked up a shotgun and then pushed me behind him so I wouldn't get hurt before shooting at the hellhound. It whimpered as I guess the bullets hit it, but it didn't stop moving. We backed into the room where Sam was untying Brady, and he looked up at us.

"Salt?" I looked at him and shook my head rapidly, staying behind Dean.

"Damn it, get me out of here!" Brady shouted in fear.

"Shut up!" all three of us shouted in unison.

"Great. Just great," he said as Dean cocked the shotgun once more.

"Hey!" we heard from in the direction of the kitchen. There stood Crowley.

"You're back?" Dean asked.

"I'm invested. Currently," There was a bark and Crowley continued, "Stay!"

"Wait, you can control them?" I asked.

"Not that one," he started patting what seemed like air, but it made a noise, "I brought my own. Mine's bigger," he grinned, "Sic him, boy!"

Suddenly there was a rolling fight of invisible dogs on the floor as we got Brady up and we all ran out of the house, leaving the hounds to do as they will.

"I'll wager a thousand my pup wins," Crowley chuckled as we got in the car, Sam and Dean in the front and me in between two demons in the back. Great.

We found a spot to stop to get the location from Brady. Crowley gave us a piece of paper with the place on it and he left as Dean was salting the little corner of a back alley we were standing in. I stepped outside of the salt just before Dean finished it and watched the scene play out in front of me as I stood back to let my brothers do the work.

"What is this?" Brady asked.

"All those angels, all those demons, all those sons of bitches-- they just don't get it, do they Sammy?" Dean asked and Sam shook his head.

"No, they don't, Dean."

"You see, Brady," Dean's words drowned out as I heard something close to a beeping noise before a ringing in my head. I backed away from the scene in front of me and to the impala, resting my hand on the car as I made my way around it, when I got to the side that they couldn't see me at, I saw a flash of white as I collapsed to the ground.

"When will my baby come back to me?"

"We're not sure yet, Mrs. Dixon. It could be months... Years, maybe."

"You know, she decorated her room like her favorite show. She's been surrounded by it ever since she was 13." Was that a... Heart monitor?

"That sounds lovely, ma'am."

"Henry?"

"Rhett?"

I opened my eyes to find I was laying on the cold ground, looking up at my brothers. I gasped into reality as they helped me to my feet.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Is he-" I stopped, looking to the left of me where the little corner of the alley was, and also where Brady's corpse lay.

"What the hell just happened?" Dean said, snapping me to look back at him.

"I-I'm not sure. I thought I heard something and then I just... Collapsed," okay, so, not the whole truth, but I honestly didn't know what just happened, how could I even begin to start explaining it to someone else?

"Are you all right?" Sam asked and I nodded.

"Yeah, yeah I'm fine. Let's just go."
