Chapter Ten: Endless Hallways And DW
After hours upon hours of hearing nothing but Sams screams and shouts, I couldn't take it. I walked up to Dean.
"Can I borrow the impala for an hour?" I asked and he turned to me. I'd gotten no sleep so I probably looked horrible.
"Where do you want to go?" he asked.
"Anywhere. I can't take this." I said. He nodded and held out the keys. I took them and started walking away.
"Don't hurt my baby!" he shouted and I nodded.
So that's why I'm here, hours later, in the streets. Everything was blurry and I could only see the outlines of people.
"Woah, are you okay?" Someone I ran into asked me. I shook my head and ran past them, into an ally. I leaned against the wall, coughing up vomit or blood, maybe both. I took out my phone and with shaky hands I dialed Deans number.
"Henry?" he asked.
"Dean," I said with a croaky voice. "Dean, I think something's wrong." I cried.
"Okay, okay, calm down. Where are you?" he asked.
"I-I don't know. I was at a bar but I left." I said.
"What bar?" he asked.
"Uh, um, some pub not too far from Bobby's." I said before coughing up more grossness.
"I'll come get you. Stay wherever you are." he said and hung up. I was still leaning against the wall before I heard a click behind me. I turned to see a guy standing there with a gun and held up in two shaky hands.
"Wha-What do you-" I asked before a gunshot went off.
"I-I didn't mean to do that." he said and I looked down. There was a pain in my leg that caused me to collapse and when I looked at it, I saw that it was bleeding. I winced and coughed up some blood. The guy walked over and started patting me down before taking something from my pocket. I closed my eyes and laid my head down, holding my aching leg as the guy turned around. I heard a shriek that caused me to open my eyes. There I saw the guy get laid onto the ground by another figure that I could vaguely make out as Cass. He walked over to me, limping slightly. He lifted my torso and put two fingers to my forehead. I closed my eyes and the pain went away. When I opened them I could see better and I wiped my mouth.
"Be careful." he said, putting something in my hand before he vanished and I looked around.
"Henry!" I heard a voice.
"Dean!" I yelled back and after a minute he appeared and ran to me.
"What happened? Are you okay?" he said and helped me up before realizing the guy on the ground.
"I-I-I think I was roofied." I said and looked from the guy to him. He looked back to me and pulled me, making me walk with him.
"Where's the impala?" he asked.
"Uh, at the pub, I think." I said, rubbing my head.
"Bobby's gonna take you back while I get that." he said as we reached a van. He put me in it as I was still drowsy from whatever drug was in my beer. Dean slammed the door and Bobby started driving and I swear I heard him mumble 'idjit' under his breath. I opened my hands and looked at whatever Cass had put in it. It was my wallet. I sighed and leaned my head on the window, wanting nothing but to sleep.
~
I'd fallen asleep on the couch back at Bobby's from the drug I had, but I wasn't throwing up anymore, which was good. I opened my eyes and looked around. Bobby was nose deep in books and Dean was nowhere to be found. I stood up and stumbled my way to the door. I doubted he was upstairs or downstairs, so he must've been somewhere outside. I searched around until I heard him.
"Cass! Come on, Cass!" I heard a deep, but hoarse voice. I followed the sound and hid behind some tires as I saw Cass standing there, with Dean. I was still a ways away, but could hear them. "Well, it's about time," Dean said. "I've been screaming myself hoarse out here for about two and a half hours now."
"What do you want?" Cass asked coldly.
"Well, you can start with what the hell happened in Illinois." Dean said as Cass walked forward.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"Cut the crap. You were gonna tell me something." Dean said as Cass got near him, looking around in my general direction, making me duck.
"Well, nothing of import." he said.
"You got ass-reamed in heaven. But it was 'not of import'?" Dean said.
"Dean. I can't. I'm sorry," he said, walking in the direction I hid. I hid a little better and listened. "Get to the reason you really called me. It's about Sam, right?" he said and I peeked over to see him skimming the place I was hiding. I realized I eavesdrop a lot, but it's better to learn than not.
"Can he do it? Kill Lilith, stop the apocalypse?" Dean asked.
"Possibly, yes. But as you know, he'd have to take certain steps." Cass said and when I looked over, he'd turned towards Dean, but Dean could still see me at any moment.
"Crank up the hell-blood regimen." Dean confirmed.
"Consuming the amount of blood it would take to kill Lilith would change your brother forever. Most likely, he would become the next creature that you would feel compelled to kill," he said and my eyes went wide. "There's no reason this would have to come to pass, Dean. We believe it's you, Dean, not your brother," Cass walked toward Dean. "The only question for us is whether you're willing to accept it. Stand up and accept your role. You are the one who will stop it."
"If I do this, Sammy doesn't have to?" Dean asked and I smiled. I mean, it hurt that I wasn't in the whole conversation, but still.
"If it gives you comfort to see it that way." Cass said and Dean scoffed.
"God, you're a dick these days," he said before he started walking in the general direction I was. "Fine. I'm in."
"You give yourself over wholly to the service of God and his angels?" Cass asked.
"Yeah, exactly." Dean said. Good God, it sounded like Dean was submitting to Cass or something, made me grimace.
"Say it." Cass said and Dean turned to him. There was a silence before Dean spoke.
"I give myself over wholly to serve God... And you guys." he said, walking toward Cass. Okay, now I feel like a full on spy.
"You swear to follow his will and his word as swiftly and obediently as you did your own father's?" Cass asked.
"Yes. I swear," Dean said. "Now what?" he asked.
"Now you wait. And we call on you when it's time," he said and they just... Kind of... Stared, at each other for a minute. "Is your sister okay?" he asked and I knew I was in trouble if Dean finds out Cass was there and I didn't tell him.
"What? You know about that?" he asked. I started inching back, ditching my hiding spot.
"I healed her." he said before looking around. I ran, stumbling over things, knowing he probably still saw me. I got in the house, my chest rising and falling rapidly. I calmed down and walked back to the couch, plopping down and closing my eyes as I heard the door open and close.
"Henry," he said and I started fake snoring loudly. "I know you're awake." he said.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I said in between fake snores. I heard him groan and tap me. I opened an eye and he was glaring at me.
"So, apparently Cass was there with you when you got mugged." he said and I sighed.
"Yeah, he put the guy to sleep and healed me, but that was it." I said.
"Are you sure?" he asked and I rolled my eyes.
"I'm sure Mr. Needs to know everything." I said.
~
Dean told Bobby and me what I already knew, but he didn't know that I'd eavesdropped, which was good. We found Sam, flung across walls. We tied him down. At night, I couldn't sleep. I was too busy worrying about Sam, about Dean, even about Cass because he's not even acting like himself. I stood up off the couch and walked to the kitchen. I grabbed my pack of cigarettes from the counter and walked outside. I lit one, putting it in my mouth. It seemed like I'd started smoking more now. I walked slightly farther away from the house to smoke. I stared at the piles of car parts and cars until I heard the slight flap of wings.
"Those are bad for your health." I heard the deep, gruff voice before my cigarette and pack was gone. I rolled my eyes and turned around.
"A dollar wasted." I said, he stared at me.
"I know you listened when I was talking to Dean." he said.
"And I know that he basically told us everything you talked about anyway, so?" I asked. He stayed silent but took a few steps closer. I took a step back each time until I hit a car. He kept walking forward.
"You should be respectful." he said and I rolled my eyes.
"Oh Mr. Hot shot, I got it! I dragged you out of hell, I can throw you back in? Is that it? Would you really." I rambled.
"No," he said. "I couldn't." he said. I tried to think of something to get him to back up a little bit. I could smack him, I could knee him, but those wouldn't hurt him of course, he's an angel. So I did the last thing any normal person would do. I kissed him. Just for a split second before backing up. He did back up, taken aback by my movement. I looked down and when I looked back up, he was gone. I sighed and walked back to the house.
I noticed Bobby was missing and I furrowed my eyebrows at that. I walked downstairs to find him not there. I walked to the door and opened the little eye thing, standing on my tippy toes to see through it. Sam was gone. My eyes went wide and I ran upstairs and out the door. I looked around before hearing a car drive off. I ran in the direction and found Bobby on the ground, a shotgun next to him. I kneeled down and tried to wake him up. I groaned as it was no use and ran back to the house to wake up Dean.
~
I stayed with Bobby to help him look for Sam from the house. Dean knows what's been happening with me whenever I even see a demon, it's not good, and with Ruby it's twice as bad. As I was scrolling through things on Sams laptop I felt a pain in my arm and winced. I put down the laptop and walked to the bathroom. I pulled up the sleeve of my shirt and looked at the handprint on my skin. It was still there, but slightly smaller and less red. In the middle of the handprint was something that I hadn't noticed before. There was a tiny heart in the palm. I stared at it for a minute.
"What the hell, Cass?" I mumbled.
~
I was sitting on Bobby's staircase, watching Dean through the rails. Thinking. Waiting.
"Dean?" Bobby brought me out of my thoughts and I perked up. "Dean. You listen to a word I said?" Bobby asked and I stood up.
"Yeah, I heard you. I'm not calling him." Dean said as I walked into the room they were at.
"Don't make me get my gun, boy." Bobby said and Dean turned around, facing us both.
"We are damn near kickoff for Armageddon. Don't you think we got bigger fish at the moment." Dean said. I watched them from the side and frowned.
"I know you're pissed, and I'm not making apologies for what he's done, but he's your-"
"Blood?" Dean cut Bobby off. "He's my blood? Is that what you were gonna say?" Dean asked.
"He's your brother, and he's drowning." Bobby finished his sentence.
"Bobby, I tried to help him. I did. Look what happened." Dean said and I rolled my eyes.
"So try again." Bobby said. Dean walked forward to me and Bobby.
"It's too late." Dean said, walking past us.
"There's no such thing." Bobby said.
"No! Damn it!" Dean yelled, turning around to face us. "No. We got to face the facts. Sam never wanted part of this family," he glanced at me. "He hated this life growing up, ran away to Stanford first chance he got. And now it's like déjà vu all over again. Well I am sick and tired of chasing him," he sat down. "Screw him. He can do what he wants."
"You don't mean that." Bobby said.
"Yes, I do, Bobby. Sam's gone. He's gone. I'm not even sure if he's still my brother anymore. If he ever was." Dean said and I stayed silent. I walked over, and instead of following the urge I had to slap him, I just stood there. I turned to Bobby just in time to see him throw off all the papers and books from his desk. They landed on the floor with a loud clatter as he turned back to Dean and me. I jumped.
"You stupid, stupid son of a bitch!" Bobby yelled and Dean stood up, towering over both of us. "Well, boohoo! I am so sorry your feelings are hurt, princess! Are you under the impression that family's supposed to make you feel good, bake you an apple pie, maybe?" he asked. "They're supposed to make you miserable! That's why they're family!"
"I told him 'You walk out that door, don't come back,' and he walked out anyway. That was his choice!" Dean said and I cringed remembering that was the last thing dad said to him before Sam left for Stanford.
"You sound like a whiny brat," Bobby said and Dean scoffed, walking to the other side of the room. I walked up to beside Bobby, watching him. "No. You sound like your dad. Well, let me tell you something, your dad was a coward." Bobby said and I looked to him, in a wide eyed glare, if that was possible. Dean turned around, anger radiating off him.
"My dad was a lot of things, Bobby, but a coward?" Dean asked.
"He'd rather push Sam away than reach out to him. Well, that don't strike me as brave. You are a better man than your daddy ever was," Bobby said and Dean scoffed. "So you do us both a favor. Don't be him."
I took a few steps to Dean as he turned toward the window. He turned back and his eyes went wide. I turned around to see a totally different room. Instead of Bobby's messy house it was a clean white hallway with paintings on both side. We took a few steps forward and stared in awe.
"Hello Dean, Henrietta," I heard. We both turned around to be faced with Cass. I smiled until I realized just how serious he looked. He was always serious, but right now he looked double the serious, if that was even possible. "It's almost time."
He disappeared and I looked up at Dean. He looked down to me and we started walking. We walked to the end of the room before turning back to see hamburgers and beer sitting on a table. Dean walked up and picked one up while I stared at it.
"Hello Dean. Hello Henrietta," we heard. We both looked up to see a man who was bald at the top of his head, wearing a suit, Zachariah I presumed, with Cass behind him. "You're both looking fit." he said and I glared.
"Well, how 'bout this. The suite life of Zach and Cass," Dean said, putting the beer back."It's a... Never mind. So, what is this? Where the hell am I?" he asked. I looked around, turning 180 degrees before back to them.
"Call it a greenroom. We're closing in on the grand finale, here. We want to keep you safe before ShowTime. Try a burger. They're your favorite. From that seaside shack in Delaware. You were eleven, I think." he said, walking up to us and picking up one of the burger. I looked to Cass, who didn't return my gaze, before back to the two men in front of me.
"I'm not hungry." Dean said.
"No? How about ginger from season 2 of Gilligan's Island? You do have a thing for her, don't you?" he asked and I was just wondering while I was here.
"Tempting. Weird." Dean answered.
"We'll throw in Mary Ann for free." Zachariah tried.
"No, no. Let's... Bail on the holodeck, okay? I want to know what the game plan is."
"Let us worry about that. We want you focused, relaxed." Zachariah said.
"We'll, we're about to be pissed and leaving, so start talking, chuckles." Zachariah sighed.
"All the seals have fallen. Except one." he said, walking around us and I grabbed a beer, which Dean took out of my hand and put back.
"That's an impressive score. That's... That's right up there with the Washington Generals." Dean said as I glared at him.
"You think sarcasm's appropriate, do you? Considering... You started all this?" he asked, turning to us. I'd really like a smoke right about now. "The final seal," he walked up to us, patting Dean on the back. "It'll be different."
"Why?" Dean turned to him.
"Lilith has to break it. She's the only one who can. Tomorrow night, midnight." he answered.
"Where?" Dean asked.
"We're working on it."
"Well, work harder."
"We'll do our job. You just make sure you do yours." Zachariah said.
"Yeah, and what is that, exactly? if I'm supposed to be the one who stops her, how? With the knife?" Dean asked.
"All in good time."
"Isn't now a good time?"
"Have faith."
"What, in you? Give me one good reason why I should." Dean demanded. Zachariah took a few steps forward.
"Because you swore your obedience. So obey." he said, getting way too close to both of us for my liking. I glanced at Cass once more and he looked down, almost like he was guilty.
"Okay, and why am I here exactly?" I asked, taking the spotlight from Dean momentarily.
"Not sure, honestly," he said and shifted so he was looking from Dean to me. "You're just a screwed up-" I was teleported somewhere before he could answer. It was still in the place, just a different room. I turned around, 360 degrees, and when I turned fully around Cass was standing there.
"What happened?" I asked and he didn't answer. "Cass, please." I begged. He disappeared and I groaned. I started walking around.
"He hasn't told you yet." I heard behind me.
"Go to hell." I spat, not turning around.
"He hasn't told you what you are." Zachariah said with amusement. I rolled my eyes, turning to him.
"He has, I'm part angel." I said.
"That's not all of it. You're the best weapon on this Earth." he said.
"What does that mean?" I asked, taking one step near him.
"You're not just part angel. You're part demon. 40% demon, 50% angel, 10% human. You're the thing you hunt." he said, I rolled my eyes.
"That's impossible." I said.
"Is it? Ask your angel, don't you think there was a reason he got you out of the room before I could tell you the truth. Or maybe that constant feeling that you have that he's keeping something back." he said and I backed up before turning and running through the halls. Every turn, every door. My chest was tight and I couldn't breath. I leaned against a wall and gagged. When I calmed myself I straightened myself. He's lying. He has to be. It's not possible to be that, it's not. I started walking, still stumbling a bit. When it stopped stumbling, I continued walking, looking for Dean, or Cass. I was afraid for my brothers to find out, I'd be dead. I came across a shelf with a statue of an angel and stopped and stared.
"Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast. Faster than you can believe. Don't turn your back, don't look away, and don't blink." I spoke, not blinking at the statue. I walked closer. "Whatever you've got planned, forget it. I'm the Doctor. I'm nine hundred and four years old. I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. I am the Oncoming Storm, the Bringer of Darkness, and you are basically just a statue, aren't you? Okay, carry on. Just a general warning," I said and picked up the statue. I put my hand up in the air and let out my inner child as I ran around with the angel statue, pretending it was flying. I was about to go through a door and I swear I just blinked and it became a wall, which I ran into... Face first... The angel statue fell from my hand and smashed on the floor, making me make a face that I make when I ruin something. "Oops."
"I'm sorry," I turned to see Cass. "That was mainly for Dean." he said. I walked up to him.
"Is it true?" I asked and he tilted his head.
"Is what tru-"
"What am I, Cass?" I asked, getting closer and closer to him. He stared, not answering. I grabbed a hold of his trench coat. "Answer me, don't you dare disappear on me. Not right now." I said, tears threatening my eyes.
"You," he began, choosing his words carefully. "You are my soul mate." he said and I scoffed.
"You know that's not what I'm talking about." I said. He lifted his hand and I watched as he pulled up my shirt sleeve. He put his hand over the light handprint on my arm and stared at me before removing it.
"You've seen the heart." he said and I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, what's that for?" I asked.
"Where you were imprinted," I furrowed my eyebrows at him. "You could've had anyone- any angel as your soulmate, don't you wonder why it was me?" he asked and I stared at him.
"Y-You said you didn't know."
"I didn't. At the time, I didn't. Now I do," he said and I gave him a questioning look. "It's because I was the first one to touch you. I claimed you, in a way." he said.
"That's kind of creepy, but please do go on." I interrupted him and if he could do a bitch face, this was it. He stared at me in annoyance before clearing his throat to continue his story.
"If any other angel would've gotten to you first, you would have been their soulmate."
"Ew, if it was Uriel or Zachariah that pulled me out..." I trailed off, cringing. "Thank you for pulling me out instead of them." I said. He sighed and looked down when I realized I was still holding onto his trench coat. I let go and patted his chest before looking back up into his blue eyes.
"A while ago, you..." he trailed off. "You kissed me. Why?" he asked.
"Well, uh, er, you see, that was, um, what was that?" I asked, turning in a circle before back to him and patting his cheeks before looking at my hands and wiping them on his shirt. He stared at me in confusion as I did my little dance. "That was a thing that I did." I said.
"Yes, I know, Why?" he asked again and I remembered he doesn't have any sense of humor.
"I don't know... I just did." I said and he nodded. I looked down at my combat boots. I felt his index finger on my chin as he made me look back up to him as he leaned in, pressing his lips to mine. I closed my eyes and leaned in, melting into the kiss. It felt like the world around us stopped and the only thing that mattered was this. When we parted I noticed we weren't in the same room. I turned to see Dean and backed up from Cass, even though his back was to us. Cass put his index finger to his lips, indicating for me to be silent. Dean started to turn around and Cass grabbed him, pushing him to the wall and covering his mouth. I saw him take out his blade and I took a step forward before he looked at me, giving me a slight warning look. He backed up from Dean and slid up his sleeve, tracing the blade on his arm and making it bleed. He started drawing something on the wall, the same thing Anna drew on the mirror by the looks of it.
"Castiel!" We heard and turned around to be met with Zachariah. "Would you mind explaining just what the hell you're doing?" he asked, walking forward. Cass hit his hand on the symbol and Zachariah disappeared, I became dizzy at it and fell into Dean.
"He won't be gone long. We have to find Sam now." he said and I straightened myself, giving Dean a reassuring smile.
"Where is he?" Dean asked.
"I don't know," he answered. "But I know who does. We have to stop him Dean, from killing Lilith." Cass said.
"But Lilith's gonna break the final seal."
"Lilith is the final seal. She dies, the end begins."
In a flash we were in another room. I turned in a circle before Dean stopped me as we looked at Chuck.
"I'll take 20 girls for the whole night," he said and I grimaced, not even wanting to imagine what he was talking about. He listened to whoever was on the other end before talking again. "Lady, sometimes you got to live like there's no tomorrow," he turned to us and looked almost terrified. I was a bit terrified too, because of what I just heard. "Wait. T-T-This isn't supposed to happen," he said before listening to the phone. "No, lady, this is definitely supposed to happen, but I just got to call you back," he hung up. "I..."
"I wanna say we need your help but now I'm kind of scarred." I said with another grimace.
~
"Sammy! Sam!" Dean and I had been banging on the door, but we had a feeling he wasn't going to open it.
"God, I knew I hated Ruby for a reason." I sighed as Dean backed up, looking for something to open the door. I grabbed a giant hammer looking thing and gave it to him. He started bashing on the door while I stood back. We finally broke through to find a dead Lillith on the floor with her blood in a pattern. Ruby looked ecstatic. I glared at her as she stood and looked at us.
"You're too late." she said smugly.
"I don't care." Dean answered and Sam stood up, holding Ruby as Dean plunged the knife into her
"Nighty Night." I said before Dean pulled out the Knife and Sam threw Ruby to the floor. Me and Dean looked to Sam as we stood there, shocked.
"I'm sorry." Sam said, his voice breaking. A bright white light emerged from the floor and we turned to look at it.
"Sammy, Henry, let's go." Dean said, grabbing me and Sam.
"Dean," Sam said, stopping, grabbing me and Dean. "He's coming."
