Chapter Sixteen: Castiel Action Figures Now In Stores
Sam, Dean, and I went after a ghost that killed it's fans and stuffed them with seeds, that turned out to be a pagan God. We were currently on a case about old myths that children listened to, coming true. So far, one girl had scratched her brains out due to itching powder in her brush and another had been charred from a joy buzzer. Dean had tested out a joy buzzer on some ham afterwards, burning it. We made the guess that it was a witch in town, cursing objects. We checked out the store they were bought from, burning a rubber chicken in the process, which terrified the guy working there. Then, some guy got all his teeth removed by "the tooth fairy". Some kids got stomach ulcers from mixing pop rocks and coke. Another guy... His face froze that way (if you'd been there, Dean gave a very great example of his face). Then we began to believe it wasn't cursed objects at all, and instead, a Trickster. We figured out that everything that had been happening was happening within a two mile radius. With a little extra information from Dean about a hot nurse, we checked out a house in the center, finding nothing but a kid named Jesse who was left alone and very smart compared to most kids his age.
We figured out that Jesse was the one controlling all the deaths, but he probably didn't know he was. Sam dug up his birth certificate, finding out that he was adopted. We decided to give his mom a visit to find out that she got pregnant by a demon. Not a demon possessing another persons body, but a demon possessing hers. We decided to call Cass, even though I was a little uneasy with that plan for some reason.
"Guys, I really don't think he should know," I said looking at them from the back of the car. Dean was already dialing the number.
"What happened to you wanting to be anywhere that he is?" Dean asked, looking at me with a raised eyebrow as I laid down across the back seats.
"First of all, that's not what it is, and second of all, I just think it might be a bad idea. I mean, the kid is a demons child, what if-"
"Henry?"
"Yes Dean?"
"Shut up," he said and I nodded, letting him call Cass. When we got to the motel we were staying in, Sam walked in first, then Dean, and me last. As I was closing the door, Dean tapped my shoulder and I turned around to see Cass.
"I take it you got our message," Sam said, sitting down at the small table in the room.
"It's lucky you found the boy," Cass said and I stood behind Dean, looking down.
"Oh, yeah, real lucky. What do we do with him?" Dean asked.
"Kill him," Cass answered simply. I looked at Dean with a look that said 'I told you so'.
"Cass," Dean said.
"This child is half demon and half human, but it's far more powerful than either," Cass began walking towards us, "Other cultures call this hybrid cambion or katako. You know him as the Antichrist," Cass stopped and looked me in the eyes. I bit my lip and he sat down, looking away from all of us as we all heard a loud fart noise. Sam and Cass shifted uncomfortably as Dean raised an eyebrow and I tried to hold in a small giggle. Once it finished, Cass pulled out a whoopee cushion from under him, "That wasn't me."
"Who put that there?" Dean asked, grinning slightly. I gave him a high five low enough so Sam couldn't see with a smirk.
"Anyways, I don't get it. Jesse is the devils son?" Sam asked and Cass almost seemed to roll his eyes.
"No, of course not." Cass said as if Sam had said the stupidest thing he could've said at this time, "Your bible gets more wrong than it does right. The Antichrist is not Lucifer's child. It's just demon spawn. But it is one of the devil's greatest weapons in the war against heaven," Cass explained and I bit my lip once again.
"Well, if Jesse's a demonic Howitzer, the what the Hell's he doing in Nebraska?" Dean asked and I nodded as if agreeing with his question. Can you even agree to a question?
"The demon's lost him. They can't find him. But they're looking." Cass explained and I shifted the weight on my feet uncomfortably. I didn't want to kill this kid, I wanted to save him, but Cass was making it seem like there was only one option.
"And they lost him because...?" Dean trailed off questionably, as if waiting for Cass to answer.
"Because of the child's power. It hides him from both angels and demons. For now." Cass said, looking from Dean to Sam, then to me, his stare lingering on me for a minute, and then back to Dean.
"So he's got, like, a force field around him. Well, that's great. Problem solved." Dean said and Cass leaned over the table slightly.
"With Lucifer risen, this child grows strong. Soon, he will do more than just make a few toys come to life--something that will draw the demons to him. The demons will find this child. Lucifer will twist this boy to his purpose. And then, with a word, this child will destroy the host of heaven." he said with wide eyes.
"Okay, calm down, drama queen." I said as he seemed very serious about this. I didn't doubt him, I just thought that he was being a tad bit over the top.
"You're saying that-that Jesse's gonna nuke the angels?" Dean asked, trying to get everything that Cass had said straight and cleared up.
"Well, yeah, are you deaf?" I asked, looking at Dean. He did a fake and mocking laugh before we both turned back to Cass.
"We cannot allow that to happen." Cass said, leaning back in his seat. The room went silent and I looked around at my brothers before back to Cass with furrowed eyebrows. Did he really expect us to kill a kid?
"Wait." Sam said, pushing his chair back to stand up. He pointed at himself, "We're the good guys. We-we don't just kill children." he argued. At first, Cass looked almost disappointed, but then he stood up, staring at Sam with a cold look in his eyes.
"A year ago, you would've done whatever it took to win this war." Cass said and I got closer to Dean, somewhat to see Cass better since Sam was in the way and somewhat because I didn't exactly want to see my brother and my soulmate fight.
"Things change." Sam argued once again. I looked at the three boys before stepping in front of Sam as Dean pulled him back, both of us feeling the tension in the room that could be cut with a knife.
"Cass, we aren't going to kill the kid. That's-that's not what we do. We protect people, so that's what we're going to do. We can't let him stay here, we know that. We'll take him to Bobby's. He'll know what to do." I offered, trying to come to an agreement with Cass.
"You'll kidnap him?" Cass asked and I shrugged, looking at my brothers, "What is going on in this town, it's what happens when this thing is happy. You cannot imagine what it will do if it's angry." he said and I began to feel how small I was compared to this angel in front of me, "Besides, how will you hold him? With a thought, he could be halfway around the world."
"So we-" Dean started.
"So we tell him the truth." Sam cut in and I nodded, thinking that was a better plan, "You say Jesse's destined to go dark side-fine. But he hasn't yet. So if we lay it all out for him-what he is-the apocalypse, everything-he might make the right choice." Sam explained with some kind of hidden anger behind his voice that wasn't hidden very well. Cass leaned in slowly, closer to Sam.
"You didn't." he said harshly. Yeah, Cass, just go and put a little more salt on that wound, won't you (note the sarcasm), "And I can't take that chance."
I could see Sam getting visibly more uncomfortable as his nostrils started flaring and I quickly stepped in, pulling Cass away from him gently. He looked at me before vanishing and I groaned, walking to the door.
"Where are you going?" Dean asked as I opened it.
"He's going to kill him, hurry up." I said, storming out and to the impala with the boys hot on my trail.
Once we got to the place, I ran to the door and without checking if it was locked, kicked the handle with force, knocking it off before kicking the door open. I looked around, seeing Jesse standing there looking terrified. I knelt down to be his eye level.
"Hey, you okay? Did you see a man wearing a trench coat anywhere?" I asked and he pointed to the floor in front of me. I looked down and my eyes widened as I saw a Castiel action figure. I picked it up carefully to see it was holding a knife and I sighed, "Stupid bastard." I grumbled under my breath, turning to my brothers before back to Jesse, who looked terrified.
"Was he your friend?" Jesse asked as I kept inspecting the action figure, hoping Jesse would be able to change him back.
"Huh?" I asked, looking up, "Him? No." I said quietly, not exactly lying. He was more than a friend to me.
"I did that." he said in disbelief as I went back to inspecting the toy, "But how did I do it?" he asked and I sighed.
"You're not human." I said and Dean and Sam both gave me a bitch face.
"You're a superhero." Dean fixed my mistake and I smiled slightly.
"I am?" Jesse asked in surprise. I set the toy down on the fireplace mantel and nodded.
"Yeah. 'Course you are." I said and knelt by Jesse, "Only a superhero can turn a bad guy into a toy." I smiled at him.
"You're superman." Dean added, "Minus the cape and the go-go boots." he said and Jesse frowned slightly. I backed up and let Dean do his thing, knowing he was good with children whether he admitted it or not, "See, my-my partners and I, we work for a secret government agency." he said, crouching down to be eye level with Jesse as I picked the action figure back up, "It's our job to find kids with special powers. In fact, we're here to take you to a hidden base in South Dakota, where you'll be trained to fight evil." Dean created a cool and convincing story, even though it wasn't exactly all true.
"Like the X-Men?" Jesse asked quickly.
"Exactly like the X-Men." Dean said and chuckled as Jesse smiled, "In fact, the, uh, guy we're taking you to--he's even in a wheelchair. You'll be a hero. You'll save lives. You'll get the girl. Sounds like fun, right?" Dean asked. Jesse seemed to be contemplating it when I felt something. Like a dark presence. My stomach churned and Dean was thrown to the wall. I quickly stood up, putting the Cass toy back on the mantel. I turned to the door to see Jesse's mom, except it wasn't his mom, it was a demon possessing her.
"They're lying to you." she said, waving her hand and throwing Sam to the wall with Dean and me to the wall opposite of them. I grunted and tried to fight against the demon's force, but she was much stronger than me, "Stay right there, dreamboat." She said to Sam, "Can't hurt you. Orders." she said and looked at me and Dean, "You two, on the other hand. Hurting you's encouraged." she grinned maliciously and I fought harder. She held out her hands and threw us to each others walls.
"Hey Sammy." I muttered before she pulled us back to the walls we were on originally.
"Leave them alone!" Jesse shouted and I groaned.
"Jesse." the demon said quietly, walking up to him and kneeling by him, "You're beautiful. You have your father's eyes." she said and I fought once more, causing her to turn to me, her eyes black as I began to lose oxygen.
"Who are you?" Jesse asked, clearly scared.
"I'm your mother." she said.
"No, Jesse." I croaked out.
"No, you're not." he said, shaking his head. She hummed.
"You're half human... Half one of us." she said, holding her hands out.
"She means demons, Jesse!" Dean said angrily. The demon turned to Dean and lifted her arm, silencing my brother immediately as she did the same thing that she did to me--depleting his oxygen supply.
"Those people you call your parents-they lied to you too. You're not theirs, not really." she said, shaking her head. He glared at her.
"My mom and dad love me." he said.
"Do they?" the demon asked, "Is-is that why they leave you alone all day? Because they love you so much? These people-these imposter's. They told you that the tooth fairy was real and that your toys could hurt you and a hundred other things that aren't true. They love you so much, They made your whole life a lie." she said harshly and he looked down, "Look into your heart, Jesse. You've always known you weren't theirs. You've always known you were different. Everyone has lied to you. They're not FBI agents." The demon looked and Sam and Dean and then at me. She then looked back to Jesse, "And you're not a superhero." she said and I struggled against her hold once more.
"Then what am I?" Jesse asked.
"You're powerful." she answered vaguely, "You can have anything you want. You can do anything you want.
"Don't listen to it, Jesse!" I shouted and she turned to me, holding up her hand and clenching it in a fist and causing me to lose even more of my oxygen, before she looked back at Jesse.
"They treated you like a child. Nobody trusted you. Everybody's lied to you. Doesn't that make you angry?" she asked and I growled despite the pain growing. I saw Jesse clench his fist as the house began shaking and the fireplace lit up like a Christmas tree. The demon looked up happily, "See? It does make you angry." she said with a smile that I wanted to rip off of her face, "But I'm telling you the truth, Jesse. Wouldn't it be better if there were no lies? Come with me and you can wash it all clean. Start over. Imagine that--a world without lies." she said as things began breaking. A picture frame fell off the wall and the wall between Sam and Dean cracked, as well as the one I was pressed against.
"She's right." Sam said and I looked at him with wide eyes, "We lied to you. But I'll tell you the truth." he said as the demon looked at him and raised a fist, hurting Sam as I glared at her, "I just want," Sam gasped, "to tell..."
"Stop it." Jesse told the demon and she did. Sam fell to the floor with a grunt,, "I want to hear what he has to say." Jesse said and looked back at Sam.
"You're stronger than I thought." the demon said before looking at the boys as I exchanged glances with them.
"We lied to you." Sam started, "And I'm sorry. So here's the truth. I'm Sam Winchester. That's my brother, Dean, and my sister, Rhett. W-We hunt monsters."
"Except when you are the monster. Right Sammy?" the demon asked and I growled.
"And that woman right there, her name is Julia. She's your mother. But the thing inside of her, the thing that you're talking to-it's a demon." Sam explained and, boy, did the demon look pissed.
"A demon?" Jesse asked.
"He's done nothing, but lie to you since the moment you met him. Don't listen to him." the demon argued and I smirked, "Punish him." she said and the smirk dropped into a scowl. Jesse turned to her.
"Sit down and shut up." he said sternly and she did so as a chair slid up to her. She couldn't even move.
"There's, uh, kind of a... a war between angels and demons, and... you're a part of it." Sam said.
"I'm just a kid." Jesse said, almost pleadingly and I frowned.
"You can go with her, if you want. I can't stop you, no one can. But if you do... Millions of people will die." Sam explained slowly.
"She said I was half demon. Is that true?" he asked quickly.
"Yes." Sam answered hesitantly, "But you're half human, too. You can do the right thing. You've got choices, Jesse. But if you make the wrong ones, It'll haunt you for the rest of your life." Sam said and I looked at him. Was that how he felt because of the demon blood thing with Ruby? That wasn't his fault...
"Why are you telling me this?" Jesse asked loudly, his voice cracking.
"Cause I have to believe someone can make the right choice, even if I couldn't." he said and I struggled. Me and Dean were still being held up against the wall, but I wanted nothing more than to run up and hug my brother right now. I saw Jesse clench his fist again as he turned to the demon.
"Get out of her." he said and the chair backed up against the wall beside me as the demon fled. Dean and I fell to the floor and as soon as I got my balance, I ran up to them and hugged them both. I then turned to Jesse.
"How did you do that?" Dean asked. He shrugged.
"I just did." Jesse replied simply.
"Kid..." Dean smiled slightly, "You're awesome." he said and I grinned before looking at Cass, who had fallen off of the mantle.
"Hey, you don't think you could do me a big favor, do you?" I asked, picking up the action figure, "He's kind of close to me, so is there any way you could fix him?" I asked, holding the action figure.
"He tried to kill me." Jesse said and I nodded.
"Yes, but he's a good person, he was just a little confused. He didn't want to hurt you, truth be told." I said. Jesse stared at me and I nodded, "I get it, we can talk about it later." I said and put the toy down sadly.
Dean, Sam, Jesse, and I discussed what we'd do now. We decided we'd take him to Bobby's to train him and he had wanted to bring his parents, but we told him how dangerous that would be for them. He asked to go say goodbye and we let him.
"He's not coming back, is he?" I asked, putting down the Cass doll as Jesse had been taking a while to say goodbye. I exchanged glances with the boys and they both raced upstairs, but I stayed down, looking back at the action figure. I sighed and turned around before feeling a hand on my back. In an instant, I was upstairs and the boys were standing in front of me once again.
"He's gone." I heard Cass' voice and turned to see him standing behind me. My eyes widened as I wrapped my arms around him in a hug before clearing my throat and pulling away awkwardly.
"Where?" Sam asked.
"I don't know. Jesse put everyone in town back to normal--the ones still alive. Then he vanished." Cass explained and I sighed, looking around his room.
"Hey." Sam said, picking up a note off his bed.
"What's it say?" Dean asked curiously.
"That he had to leave to keep his parents safe, that he loves them, and he's sorry." Sam said and I sighed.
"How do we find him?" Dean asked Cass.
"With the boy's powers, we can't. Not unless he wants to be found." Cass explained and I looked at the big poster for surfing in Australia.
"I bet I can guess where he is."

A/N: Hey, I'm thinking about stopping these whole Author's Notes unless y'all want me to keep them. I'm also almost done writing the book as a whole and hopefully sometime soon I'll begin weekly updates on this one again.
Last QOTD: What was your favorite school memory?
I'll be graduating school soon. I'm currently writing this A/N during the coronavirus ordeal and it's got me thinking about a lot of memories I could have made in school that I'm missing out on, so I wanted to know y'alls.
Also I've been working on this book since my 6th grade year and I'm about to graduate so if that doesn't prove loyalty, I don't know what does.
Thank you for reading!
Goodbye my lovelies <3
