Chapter One: In and Out of Hell
I stared at the wall of my motel room. I'd left Bobby's soon after we found out there was no way of finding Sam, but I still reminded Bobby I was okay every once in a while. I was, physically, but inside I felt like my heart had been ripped into pieces.
Watching those Hellhounds tear Dean apart was one of the most traumatizing moments I've ever had, and that's saying a lot. It had been two months since his death, me and Sam had basically begged Bobby not to burn him.
I stared, emotionless. The blank wall matching my expression. I was unable to cry anymore. All my tears had dried up and now I just stared. I didn't want to exist anymore. I looked down at my bracelet that I'd gotten from my dad before he died. It had the cross on it and on the back wrote "God works in mysterious ways" and I almost laughed. I quickly tore it off my wrist and threw it at the wall. It ricocheted to the floor and shattered; it was old. It was bound to break at one point. I stared at it for a minute before laying down on my bed.
"If there was a god why would he do this to me and Sam. What is the point of doing this?" I whispered. Closing my eyes, I listened to my heartbeat.
Why?
"I don't believe," I whispered.
All of a sudden there was a shatter and I stood up, grabbing my gun from the nightstand. There stood two men with black eyes, demons. I knew this gun would do jack to demons, only the colt can kill them. I hadn't bothered painting a devils trap or salting the entrances.
One demon smiled at me, a sickening smile.
"Hello sweetheart," He said before they both charged at me. I shot at them but of course, nothing. In no time they had me up against the wall.
"Oh well aren't you two sweet?" I spat sarcastically.
"Sorry doll, your brother ain't the only one going to hell," He said and my eyes popped wide.
"Even if you kill me, it's not a promise that I'll go to hell," I said. He smirked at me. "Are you working for Lilith?" I asked. He smiled at me, obviously impressed by my questioning, before it changed back to the smirk.
"You could say we work for a greater force," he answered, only leaving me with more questions. One took out a lighter and a brand and I started struggling as he heated the brand. The one holding me put his hands to my throat as I tried to get out of his grasp. My air was now clogged and I couldn't breathe. The demon with the brand grabbed my arm and the next thing I knew, there was scolding hot feeling on my arm. I screamed in pain and the demon covered my mouth. I hadn't realized I'd dropped my gun until the second demon picked it up and aimed it at my heart. I squeezed my eyes shut as a gunshot was heard and everything went black.
~~~
I woke up in a wooden box. Pine to be specific. I lifted my leg, my knee hitting it. It was weak and probably would've caved in, give it a year. I lifted the lid with great force. Smart move idjit. Gravel and dirt rained down on me. I clawed my way out, gasping for air when out. I climbed out, looking around. There were fallen trees surrounding a patch of nothing but grass and as I looked down, there was another grave right beside mine. I automatically recognized this as the place we buried Dean, but this was different. Why had the trees fallen? I was thinking when I noticed his had a hole in it too, as if he'd climbed out. I ran over and started digging at where there had already been a hole and when it was big enough to see the bottom, the coffin was empty. Had Dean gotten out too?
I ran in the direction I thought to be people, or at least a road and when I got there, everything seemed desserted. I found a phone box but I had no change on me. When walking for a while, I found a gas station. The whole thing looked like someone had shot out all the glass, but that was the only thing wrong with it. I walked in, not caring about the glass on the floor. I found a vending machine type thing and I opened it, gulping down two bottles of water, getting my shirt and face wet in the process, before moving on. I realized that I had died by getting shot and pulled the collar of my shirt, seeing no bullet hole or scar. Then I checked my arm where the demon had branded me, nothing, although I did feel a pain on my upper arm. Pulling up my shirt sleeve I saw a red handprint. I stared at it in confusion before spotting something else behind me. I found a newspaper and picked it up, reading the date.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2008
It had only been two months since I died? I dropped the newspaper and ran to the only place I knew to run to. Bobby's.
On the way I high jacked a car as Dean had showed me how to do. I drove way past the speed limit to Bobby's. Once there I found that the door was already open and I walked inside, hearing voices come from a room. As I walked closer I could make out what they were saying.
"-Your insides were slop, and you've been buried four months. Even if you could slip out of hell and back into your meat suit-"
"I know, I should look like a "thriller" video reject," I heard and my heart rate increased. Dean was alive.
"What do you remember?" Bobby asked as I inched my way closer to the door.
"Not much. I remember I was a hellhounds chew toy, and then lights-out. Then I come to six feet under. That was it," he said before there was a pause. "Sam and Henry's numbers aren't working. They're, uh, they're not-"
"Oh, Sam's alive, as far as I know," Bobby answered and I nodded, remembering that Sam had left. I heard a sigh.
"Good. Wait, what do you mean as far as you know? What about Henry?" Dean asked and I closed my eyes, letting out a silent sigh.
"I haven't talked to Sam for months," Bobby said, totally ignoring the fact that he brought up me.
"You're kidding, right? You just let them go off by themselves?" Dean said, obviously thinking I was with Sam.
"Not them, just Sam. And he was dead set on it."
"Bobby, you should have been looking after him. And just Sam? Where's Henrietta?"
"I tried," Bobby said, ignoring my name once again. "These last months haven't exactly been easy, you know, for them or me. We had to bury you," Bobby said.
"Why did you bury me anyways?" Dean asked. I let out a sigh, he had forgotten about me. It was a relief, I didn't want him thinking I was dead when I'd come back.
"I wanted you salted and burned, usual drill, but Sam nor Rhett would have it," Bobby answered and I remembered when we said we were going to get him back no matter what. It scared me, to think that Sam could've actually brought us back, but then again, no demon would bargain two for one.
"Well, I'm glad they won that one," Dean said.
"They said you'd need a body when they got you back home somehow. That's about all they said."
"What do you mean?" Dean asked.
"They were quiet... Real quiet, both of them. Then Sam just took off. Wouldn't return my calls. We tried to find him, but he don't want to be found."
"Oh dammit," I heard Dean groan.
"What?" Bobby asked.
"Oh, they got me home okay, but whatever they did, it is bad mojo."
"What makes you so sure?"
"You should've seen the grave sight. It was like a nuke went off. Then there was this, this force, this presence, that I don't know, but it-it-it blew past me at a fill-up joint," so that explains the gas station, Dean was at it before me. "And then this," he said causing me to peek through the door. I saw him lift up his shirt sleeve to reveal an almost identical handprint on his arm to the one on mine. Bobby stood up and walked closer, getting a better look.
"What in the hell?" Bobby asked. I hid back behind the wall to continue listening.
"Yeah, it's like a demon just yanked me out or rode me out," Dean said and I pulled up my sleeve, looking at my mark.
"But why?" Bobby asked.
"To hold up their end of the bargain," Dean said.
"You think Sam made a deal?" I heard Bobby, but very quietly.
"It's what I would've done," Dean said. I looked back to see them back away slightly. "And you never answered me about Henry," Dean said. I hid myself once more as Bobby gave a sigh as if to ready himself for what he was about to say.
"Two months after your death, demons found Henrietta in a hotel. I wouldn't had even known about her death if some maid at the hotel hadn't looked through her phone and called me," He said and it went silent. I looked back over to see a single tear roll down Dean's cheek.
"That was the other grave," he said, finally putting one and one together. I felt my hand slip and I fell in the room with a crash.
"Bad time, yeah?" I asked from my position on the floor.
"Henry?" Dean asked.
"Rhett?" there's Bobby. I stood up and brushed myself off.
"So, what the hell would pull one person out of hell, much less two?" I asked. I was crushed by a big bear hug by Dean and turned to Bobby. "And before you ask, I'm not a shifter, revenant, or a-" I said but was cut off by Bobby splashing holy water on my face. "-demon," I finished, spitting out water.
"Sorry," Bobby said before hugging me.
"So what are we going to do about this?" I asked, looking at them both.
~
After Dean called a phone place and tracked down Sam's new phone we drove there with Bobby and found out that he was in some whorey thing. I couldn't wait to make fun of the heart on his door. He may be taller than me, but I'm still older than him. We knocked on the door to be greeted with a woman.
"So, where is it?" she asked. Me, Dean, and Bobby exchanged confused glances.
"Where's what?" Dean asked.
"The pizza that takes three people to deliver," she said and I rolled my eyes. Bitch.
"I think we got the wrong room," I said.
"Hey is-" I heard my younger brother as he walked into view. He stared at us three for a moment before Dean broke the silence.
"Heya Sammy," Dean said, taking a step forward. In one second Sam took out a knife and lunged at Dean, the girl squealing, me gasping and running forward, helping Bobby get him off.
"Who are you?" Sam screamed at Dean.
"Like you didn't do this!" Dean yelled.
"Do what?" Sam yelled back. Yelling fight, damn.
"It's him. It's him, Sam. I've been through this already. It's really him," Bobby said as we restrained him.
"But..." Sam trailed off and Dean took a step forward.
"I know. I look fantastic, huh?" Dean asked and I scoffed. Sam hugged him and I just stayed to the side.
"It's fine, your sisters been dead too, but you know, it's fine," I mumbled so he couldn't hear me. When the hug ended, bitch chick started talking again.
"So are you two like... together?" She asked and I stifled a laugh.
"What? No. No. He's my brother," Sam said.
"O-oh. Got it, I-I guess. Look, I should probably go," she said.
"Yeah, yeah That's probably a good idea. Sorry," Sam said and the girl got dressed as we got comfortable. Sam walked her out as I stared at the ceiling.
"So tell me, what'd it cost?" Dean asked and I looked to him.
"The girl?" Sam chuckled. "I don't pay, Dean."
"That's not funny Sam. To bring us back. What'd it cost?" Dean asked again and Sam looked at me confused.
"Oh, yeah, your sister's been in hell too," I said. It made me angry that he didn't even know I'd died, but I kept silent about that.
"Was it just your soul or was it something worse?" Dean continued.
"You think I made a deal?" he asked.
"That's exactly what we think," Bobby said, except, I didn't think that.
"Well I didn't," Sam said.
"Don't lie to me," Dean said and I turned my attention back to him.
"I'm not lying," Sam said.
"So, what now? We're off the hook and your on, is that it? Your some demons bitch boy? I didn't want to be saved like this."
"Dean," I cut in. He looked at me and I rolled up my sleeve. "We were saved by the same thing, but he didn't even know I was dead. It couldn't have been him," I said.
"Don't get me wrong, I am gladdened that Sam's soul remains intact, but that does raise a sticky question," Bobby cut in.
"If he didn't pull us out, then what did?"
