Chapter Nineteen: Time Travel? (Part One)
"You were referred to me by a Dr. Babar in Chicago." the doctor we were sitting in front of said. We had got a call from Martin, a hunter that had saved dad multiple times and was now, for some reason, in a mental hospital, or as I liked to call them, insane asylums. He'd called us about a monster that had been killing people and making it look like suicides.
"That's right." Dean confirmed. We had a fullproof plan. All we had to do was tell the guy about our actual life and he'd let us in. Dean wasn't too sure about it, but I thought that it'd be funny and Sam just wanted to help out Martin. The doctor put down his file on us.
"Isn't there a children's book about an elephant named Babar?" he asked and I bit my lip. Maybe Babar gave it away, or maybe it was the fact that our last name was Van Halen today.
"I don't know. I don't have any elephant books." Dean shook his head slightly, "Look, doctor, I-I think that...the doc was in over his head with this one, "Dean pointed at me and Sam, "Cause my brother and sister, they're, uh..." Dean twirled his finger around in a circle and whistled.
"Okay, fine, thank you. That's-That's really not necessary." the doctor said, holding up a hand to stop Dean and I snickered, "Why don't you tell me how you're feeling, Alex? Then we'll, uh, go on to you Val." he said and I nodded. I needed a name and the boys always use ones from bands or movies with no girls, as in there are no female Van Halen's so I had to use Eddie's wife and switch it up a little. Sam let out a sigh.
"I'm fine." He scoffed and I snickered once again, "I mean, okay, a little depressed, I guess." he said.
"Alright. Any idea why?" the doctor asked, writing things down on his clipboard.
"Probably because I started the apocalypse and my sister's a demon." he said and I rolled my eyes.
"Half angel too." I added and the doctor looked at us like we were crazy, which is what we wanted.
"The apocalypse?" the doctor asked.
"Yeah, that's right." Sam nodded. The doctor looked at Dean, who smiled and I rolled my eyes once again.
"And you think you started it?"
"Well, yeah. I-I mean," Sam sighed, "I killed this demon-Lilith-and I accidentally freed Lucifer from Hell. So now he's topside, and we're trying to stop him." Sam said and I looked at Dean, who was looking around.
"W-Who is?" the doctor asked, confused.
"Me." Sam said, "And her, and him. And, uh, this one angel." Sam said and I smiled, thinking about Cass and slightly wishing he was here.
"Oh, you mean like a-like an angel on your shoulder?" the doctor asked, trying to get things clear as he patted his shoulder and I snorted.
"No, no. His name's Castiel. He wears a trench coat." Sam said.
"And he's my soulmate." I added and the doctor just sort of gave us blank stares.
"See what I mean, doc? I mean, the kid's been beating himself up about this for months. The apocalypse wasn't his fault." Dean said and the doctor looked at him now.
"It's not?" he asked, still confused; probably more confused now than before.
"No. There was this other demon-Ruby. She got him addicted to demon blood. I mean, near the end, he was practically chugging the stuff." Dean explained, to which the doctor wrote something down on his clipboard, "Our brother's not evil. He was just... High."
"Not to mention, none of it would've started if this boy hadn't had been killed by hellhounds and sent to Hell, and started torturing souls, which unlocked the first seal, the things that stopped Lucifer from escaping Hell." I added and Dean rolled his eyes at me, "And Castiel let Sam out of the panic room so that he could kill Lilith. It was more of a group effort." I smiled.
"Yeah? So could you fix him up so we can get back to traveling around the country and hunting monsters?" Dean asked, but we all knew that he'd make us all stay, our plan exactly. He held up his index finger and reached for his phone, pressing a button before putting it to his ear.
"Erma... Cancel my lunch."
~
After a very thorough nurse did a check up on us, we met up with Martin. Honestly, he had no real evidence, and the only thing we could go by was some glimpses by insane people and his gut. In truth, Dean didn't believe him, I was in the middle, and Sam seemed to give him full trust.
Then the doctor came up to us and told us to come to group, but told us that he was splitting me, Dean, and Sam up. He put Dean in the afternoon group and me in the morning group and I couldn't help but sit and pout as I missed Sam after less than two minutes. Then Dean got thraped and we met back up with Sam who said some guy named Ted saw the creature and I immediately agreed to talk to him. Before we left, Dean got kissed by some chick named Wendy, which grossed me out.
We met back up later to go find Ted, but before we could get to him, he was dead and hanging from his ceiling. We later went back to the morgue part of the facility (I didn't even know why it was there) and looked at his body, finding a hole in his neck. The hole was deep enough to go through to his brain. Sam sawed through his skull as me and Dean kept watch outside.
We almost got caught as the creepy thorough nurse walked in on us, but Dean solved the problem by pulling down his pants and yelling, "Pudding!"
That was a sight that I could've lived without and would haunt me forever.
We met up with Martin the next day and told him what we found, and he told us what it was; a wraith. He also showed us a picture, which was absolutely horrendous. We found out how to kill it-by using silver-then all we had to find out was who it was. I was betting my money on either the doctor or creepy thorough nurse. Martin said that we'd be able to see it's true form in a mirror, so all we had to do was look at every single person in the hospital through a mirror. That is not as easy as it sounds.
Dean said that he'd seen Dr. Fuller in the mirror and told us that he was the wraith while me and Sam got silver plated knives. When we met back up with Dean and Martin, Wendy came back and this time, kissed Sam, which again, disgusted me.
Martin ditched us, so we continued without him, going into Dr. Fuller's office to find him not there. He was still in the building, so we continued searching. We split up and apparently, Sam beat up the doctor before Martin intercepted to tell him that Dr. Fuller wasn't the monster.
They put Sam on drugs and all I can remember from the talk we had is him booping Dean's nose because I bursted out laughing with no control after that.
~
I was walking down the hall to get to the day room with a sigh. Sam was under supervision, and Dean had been acting funny. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see Ted standing in front of me. My eyes widened as I backed up into the wall.
"T-Ted?" I asked and he glared at me.
"You and your brothers did this to me." he said, referring to the line across his neck and the opening in his skull, "You let me die. You let Jo and Ellen die. You'll let everyone here die." he said and I shook my head.
"N-No. We save people." I argued and he punched his fist into the wall beside me.
"Bull! You don't do crap! All you do is make lives worse!" he shouted in my face and I quickly ducked and ran out of fear. People kept staring at me, some tapping me to see if I was okay, but all I could do is keep running and beg them to stay away. I got to the day room and saw Sam being escorted out by doctors and nurses, trying to fight and begging them to leave him alone. I turned and saw Dean sitting at a table, looking afraid as I ran up to him.
"Dean." I cried and he looked up at me, slightly moving his arms as if to block from a punch that never came.
"H-Henry?" he asked and I nodded.
"It's me. Dean, something's wrong."
~
Dean and I went to see Martin, and they somehow came to the conclusion that Wendy was the Wraith. We went to her room, only to find creepy nurse with some kind of long spike thing in her neck. We tried to fight her, but it only ended in us getting locked in Wendy's room and finding out that Wendy was still alive. When people came in to get us, Martin fought them while Dean and I tried to follow the wraith.
We found her at the last moment, right before she stuck her spike into Sam. The last thing I remember was fighting her.
Apparently, Dean had broke off her spike thing before she could do anything and then stabbed her with the silver plated blades. Alarms went off and we made a break for it, before Sam stopped us and had a speech about how angry he is with everything. Dean told him to keep it inside, I hugged him, and we got in the car and carried on.
~
Sam and some satanic kid named Gary swapped bodies and Gary tried to kill me and Dean as Sam but we didn't notice it until after a hunt. Shall I say more?
~
"She's my cherry pie. Cool drink of water..." the song continued and I looked around, confused as to where I was.
"Oh, I take it all back. I love the devil." I heard and turned to see Dean sitting on a couch as a stripper dressed as a devil walked on a catwalk and did the stripper thing, and I tried not to gag.
grown man cry
sweet cherry pie oh yeah she's my cherry pie
put a smile on your face ten miles wide
looks so good bring a tear to you eye
sweet cherry pie yeah
I tried not to focus on the scene in front of me, looking anywhere but at them and trying to jam out to the song instead. Suddenly everything stopped and I looked back to see Anna standing there instead. I furrowed my eyebrows, first instinct to call Cass, but I didn't. I assumed this wasn't real life almost as soon as I saw the strippers and Dean didn't see me.
"Anna?" Dean asked, confused as he looked around, "I was just, uh, working on a case." Dean said, trying to come up with an excuse as Anna showed an extremely fake smile.
"This is what you dream about." she said, almost as disgusted as me. Almost.
"This is awkward." Dean whispered, looking down as if to avoid the angel standing right in front of him. I crossed my arms and looked at Anna, who seemed to glare at the sight of me.
I pointed at Dean and said, "Men, am I right?" to which Anna seemed to loosen up just a bit.
"Why are you gate-crashing my head? Why don't you just swing by the motel?" Dean asked as Anna walked down from the catwalk to sit next to him, knowing she couldn't interact with me because he wouldn't understand.
"I can't find you." she said and I immediately looked down, as if trying to see my ribcage through my skin as I remembered what Cass had done to me and my brothers.
"Oh. Cass did this thing." Dean said, pointing to his ribs as well and I smiled.
"Cass. Right. Now, there's a friend you can count on." Anna said sarcastically, with some sort of hatred towards Cass. I glared like a five year old.
"What?" Dean asked.
"He didn't tell you?" Anna realized.
"Tell me what?" Dean asked, still confused.
"Where I've been." Anna answered, raising her voice slightly, "Of course not. Why would he?" she asked, looking directly at me as if aiming the question at me. I held up my hands in defense as I didn't know the answer either.
"Where have you been?" Dean asked, still not getting it. Oh, Dean, dear brother, you are slow.
"Prison. Upstairs." Anna answered as if it pained her, nodding to the sky. I rolled my eyes, "All the torture, twice the self-righteousness."
"Why wouldn't he had told us where you were?" Dean asked and I moved closer.
"Cause he's the one that turned me in." she replied quickly as I sat on the couch next to them, the only one noticing being Anna, "Don't look so shocked. He was always a good little soldier. Did anything under orders." she said, looking annoyed.
"I didn't know. Are you okay?" Dean asked, worried. I would've made fun of him if Anna couldn't hear me. Anna stared off into space before looking back at Dean slowly.
"No. And I don't have long. I broke out--barely. They're looking for me. If they find me-" she began shaking her head in worry.
"Okay. What do you need?" Dean asked, cutting her off.
"Meet me. 225 industrial. And, please, just hurry."
I woke up, cuddling as close as I could to Dean until he pushed me away gently and sat up with a gasp and heavy breathing. I grumbled, rubbing my eyes.
"You're gonna meet her?" I asked, wondering if he actually would. He looked at me.
"You saw all that?" he asked. I bit my lip and nodded slowly.
"And really? Angel and Devil?"
~
Dean had me pray to Cass and when he appeared, we confronted him about Anna. Dean told him he was going to meet up with her, but Cass told us to stay out of his distrust for Anna. I obliged, but Sam and Dean had slight problems with it, more Dean than Sam. Cass pulled me aside and I looked at him, confused.
"Please make sure they stay here. I trust you." he said and my eyes went slightly wider.
"M-me? But Sam's twice my size and Dean's twice my muscle. What am I supposed to do?" I asked in a whisper as they were only feet away from us.
"I believe you'll manage." he said and vanished. I groaned, holding my arms out.
"Asshole!" I shouted at where he once stood before turning back to my brothers. "So, anyone up for a game of Twister? Perhaps charades? Maybe Monopoly or Clue?" I asked, fake smiling.
"Rhett." Dean said in a dangerously low tone, as if warning me.
"I don't like nor trust Anna, Dean!" I shouted, dropping my facade easily as I ran a hand through my hair. "She's too weird. Too nice. Too...good. You, out of all people should know that nobody that good exists." I said.
"Just cause she hasn't killed anyone?" he asked, seeming offended. "What about your angel? You look at him like he's the best thing in the whole damn world!" he shouted and I glared at him.
"That's different! Castiel and I are connected, it's not like your stupid little affair! I did not choose this and I can at least admit that he has flaws!" I shouted back.
"Sure you didn't. You know, I bet even if you two weren't angelically connected, you'd still be screwing him." Dean accused and I felt anger boil in me.
"I am not screwing him!" I shouted furiously. Without another second to spare, Dean flew back against a wall.
"Rhett! Rhett, calm down." Sam tried, slowly moving closer to me as I realized what I'd done. Dean fell from the wall and looked at me in horror. Not horror because I threw him against a wall, but horror because I threw him against a wall.
"I-I didn't mean to do that." I said slowly, shaking my head as I backed up from both of them.
Suddenly an image flashed in my mind and pain emerged from within me as I fell to the ground. A bright light flashed and I couldn't see anything but the vision. I saw Cass and Anna standing together, Cass holding his angel blade and Anna holding a regular knife, one I knew wouldn't work against Cass.
"Sam Winchester has to die."
Everything went back to normal as I gasped back into life, looking around to see my brothers knelt beside me. I grabbed onto them both to help myself up and steady, before looking at Sam.
"Sam Winchester has to die." I said and he looked at me in confusion and slight fear. "That's all I heard, that's what she said." I explained, grabbing my head in pain.
"What? Who?" Dean asked and I frowned, looking back at him.
"Anna." I said softly and he glanced at Sam before back at me.
"She believes Sam dying is the only way to avoid the apocalypse." we all heard. I looked behind me to see Cass as he walked up to us and pressed two fingers to my forehead. Suddenly, the ache in my head was gone.
Without another word, Cass got to work. He got chalk and other witch-y things and began drawing something on the table in the corner of the room, most likely a spell to find Anna. I stood up and Sam tried to lead me to the bed to sit down, but I waved him off and leaned against the metal in the middle of the room that made a sort of see through wall, other than the metal bits that came out to make patterns. Sam sat on the bed and Dean stood, trying to comprehend everything before speaking.
"Really? Anna?" Dean asked. "I don't believe it." he said skeptically.
"Well, maybe you should start." I said in irritation, looking over my shoulder at him before looking back at Cass who looked at us, most likely wondering what had happened before to make me so hostile towards my brother. When he noticed me looking at him, he went back to drawing his stuff.
"It's true." Cass said, not looking up at us again.
"So she's gone all Glenn Close, huh? That's awesome." he said sarcastically, either hurt or regretful, but I couldn't help flinching at his sad tone, feeling bad for snapping at him.
"Who's Glenn Close?" Cass asked, standing up from his leaning position to look at us all.
"No one. Just this psycho bitch who likes to boil rabbits." Dean explained, turning around.
"And skin puppies." I added, remembering her playing Cruella Deville in 101 Dalmations. Cass looked slightly confused, but didn't say anything about it.
"So, t-the-the plan to kill me-would it actually stop Satan?" Sam asked and I looked back at him in surprise and sadness.
"No, Sam, come on." Dean tried, but Sam barely gave him a glance.
"Cass, what do you think? Does Anna have a point?" he asked. I turned back to Cass, who looked at Dean and then me before back to Sam.
"No. She's a... "Glen Close." he answered, going back to his angel stuff.
"I don't get it. We're looking for the chick that wants to gank Sam?" Dean asked, stepping closer to Cass as he pointed back to Sam. "Why poke the bear?" he held his arms out in confusion.
"Anna will keep trying. She won't give up until Sam is dead." Cass replied, barely looking up from his work. "So we kill her first."
None of us said another word as Cass began speaking a foreign language. I looked back at Dean, who looked hardened, angry to hide his hurt. I'd seen it before. I frowned and looked back at Cass as he finished his words. He threw something into his small pot and red flames erupted from it. He then fell back and began breathing deeply, gaining his balance as he used a chair to stay up. I couldn't help but move closer to him, but stopped when someone grabbed me, pulling me back with them. I turned to see Dean, who looked worried as well, but just not as much, before turning back to Cass. His eyes were shut tight, but he slowly lifted his head.
"I found her." he said, his eyes opening.
"Where is she?" Dean and I asked simultaneously.
"Not where." Cass said, looking up more, but never looking at us. "When. It's 1978" he said, straightening up and finally looking at us.
"What?" Sam asked, finally standing from the bed. "Why 1978? I wasn't even born yet." he said and I looked at Dean.
"Neither were we." I added, catching on.
"You won't be...if she kills your parents." Cass said, troubled.
"What?" Sam asked and I shook my head, not wanting this.
"Anna can't get to you because of me. So she's going after them." Cass said, walking up to us.
"Take us back." I said, more of a demand than a suggestion.
"And deliver you right to Anna?" Cass asked, shaking his head. "I should go alone."
"Then you didn't understand me." I said, moving away from Dean. "Because I'm not asking." I said, staring up at Cass with narrowed eyes. As much as I cared for him, my parents would always be my parents, and I'd always love them.
"They're our parents, Cass. We're going." Dean said.
"It's not that easy." Cass said, turning around and walking away from us all.
"Why not?" Sam asked.
"Time travel was difficult even with the powers of heaven at my disposal." Cass said, turning back halfway, not enough for us to meet eyes.
"But you're cut off." Sam said, slowly catching on, as were me and Dean.
"So, what? You're like a DeLorean without enough plutonium?" Dean asked.
"I don't understand that reference." Cass said, turning back to us and raising his eyebrows. I bit my lip to stop from smiling. "But I'm telling you, taking this trip, with passengers, no less... It'll weaken me." Cass said sadly and I looked down at my hands, biting my lip as an idea came into my mind.
"They're our mom and dad. If we can save them, and not just from Anna-I mean, if we can set things right... We have to try." Dean said, striding up to Cass. He shook his head slightly before I piped up.
"If I'm part angel, do I have grace?" I asked and they all looked at me in confusion.
"Well, yes. It's part of where you get your powers from." Cass said and I nodded.
"Okay." I said and looked back to Dean and Sam, an idea forming in my head as I breathed in deeply. "Light-bulb." I said softly before gliding up to my soulmate. I tried to focus on my power as I pushed past Dean, close to Cass as he looked down at me.
"What are you-"
"Shut up and look away, Dean." I said, looking at him from the corner of my eyes. His eyes widened as he held up his hands in defense, him and Sam turning around. I looked back at Cass, who looked as confused as I was scared. "Dear God, please let this work." I mumbled before cupping Cass' cheeks with my hands, pressing my lips to his. He didn't even seem that taken aback as he quickly began kissing me back, which shocked me. I didn't let it catch me off guard for long as I continued to focus on my power, my grace.
Our mouths worked together like clockwork as I felt something electric run through my body, leaving me weak as he quickly wrapped his arms around my waist, feeling my body about to collapse on his. I slowly gained my balance again as I pulled away from him and looked up into his eyes. He stared at me skeptically.
"What did you just do?" he asked and I smiled weakly.
"Just gave you my train ticket." I said softly before everything went dark.
~
When I came to, I was on a sidewalk, someone holding onto me tightly and shaking. I looked up to see Cass, staring down at me. Blood was dripping from his nose, and I wondered what I'd miss.
"Cass?" I asked, moving to look at him better, hoping he was okay.
"Thank you." he mumbled, looking up at me. "If not for your grace, we might not have made it here." he said softly and I smiled weakly, biting my lip.
"Cass? Henry?" I heard from beside us and looked up to see my brothers, bags hauled over their shoulders as they ran to us, noticing how weak Cass seemed. "Hey, hey, hey hey, hey. Take it easy. Take it easy. You all right?" Dean asked, kneeling by us, behind me.
"I'm fine." he replied, looking up at Dean. "I'm much better than I expected." he said before coughing up blood in the other direction.
"Cass?" I cried worriedly as his eyes shut and his body went limp, blood dripping from his lips. Sam held his hand in front of his face.
"He's breathing... Sort of." he informed us and I looked up at him and Dean.
"What do we do?"
