Chapter 19

"Seriously, Sirius?" 14-year-old Ginny glared at him though she looked like she's been caught in a huge crime.

"Did you just say my name twice?" Sirius joked reducing the tension, rubbing the back of his neck and smiled nervously.

"Why did you sneak into my room? How many times have I told you not to rummage through my stuff?" Ginny has her hands on her hips, looking tough and furious as she stepped inside her room.

"Twenty-one times, I guess, including this one. In my defence, Harry, your best friend, sent me here to fetch the Mortal Kombat game. I was helpless" he made puppy eyes and pouted.

"Oh, I know how dramatic you can get. I don't care. Just give me back those--" She pointed to the bunch of different coloured papers in Sirius's hand.

Sirius instantly smirked "By those, you mean, Valentine cards, huh? Love greetings to no one but my godson" his smirk only grew wider as Ginny blushed furiously.

"yes! You got your answer. Now, give me those! " Ginny leapt for them but Sirius was quick as he rolled off the bed and stood on the other side.
"not so fast, ginny. How about we sit first, then you bring me something to eat and we have a brief discussion on the present circumstance" Sirius is sure as hell enjoying the situation.

"Fine!" Ginny grunted.

A little later, Sirius has popcorn in one hand with coke in the other and Pringles when he got bored of the popcorn, and more different snacks spread around him.

"Sirius! I'm not waiting until you complete all this. We're talking now or I'm gonna take all these from you" Ginny warned and Sirius scowled.
'Ugh! He's a fucking 2-year-old kid' Ginny muttered to herself.

"Okay, Ginny. So, explain these love greetings you wrote for Harry, your best friend, who still thinks you're his friend but you fooled him! You love him!" Sirius got the face of an actor. He can be anyone anytime.

"If you don't stop exaggerating this, I'm gonna shove all the snacks in your mouth at once. Now listen to me, yes, I love Harry, I've been for a long time now. First, it was a crush- with him being protective, loving, caring and everything towards me all the time. But, it couldn't stay a crush when it has been four years already. I love Harry, Sirius. This is no joke"

Sirius looked flabbergasted. His mouth opens and closes like a fish but no word came out of it. He snapped out of it when Ginny threw an energy bar towards him.
"You..you..then why didn't you tell him? Why keep all these cards with yourself?"

Ginny gave him a half-heartened smile, "I tried. The first Valentine's card I wrote for him was when I was 10. I gave it to him--"

"And?"

"I didn't exactly give it to him. I posted it and it got lost in the numerous cards Harry received."

"That's the stupidest thing you ever did. Harry was your friend since you guys were in nappies, You are special to him, but still, you chose to post the card like all other girls."

Ginny covered the newly forming blush "I'm not special to him" she murmured.

Sirius rolled his eyes. "You are dumb, that's what you are"

Ginny hit him with a pillow and Sirius winced.
"So, you just kept writing the cards every year to keep them in your possession and cry every time you look at them and be a one-side lover forever. That's the plan?" he asked, chugging down the Coke along with all the chips like a hungry monster.

"No." Ginny looked sad and broken even, Sirius couldn't able to watch that and regretted what he said.

"Ginny, C'mon, we can tell Harry. He would jump into your arms and say 'Oh gin, I've been waiting for this time since I was born ' " he made those dreamy eyes, smiling brightly at Ginny.

"Sirius, I told you this isn't a joke. Harry doesn't love me like I do. He never wished me on Valentine's Day, he wouldn't even bother bringing me a flower or a chocolate or anything. For him, we are just friends. He celebrates friendship day like it's my birthday. I don't want to keep my hopes up. So, this is what I'm gonna do, I'll stop writing these stupid love greetings. We are starting freshman year, I'll start fresh and move on from him." Ginny tells like she has everything planned but looking into her eyes explains she's clueless.

"Ginny--" he was interrupted.

"No, Sirius, there's nothing else. Do me a favour and keep this a secret.
Harry and I... We don't belong together anyway"

"ew, I'm stepping on water. How is this place filled with water?" Sirius held his pants up as he walked on tiptoe, scowling at Ginny.

"Seriously, Sirius? There's no water here, what are you talking about?" Ginny said, rolling her eyes. She placed her phone aside, she didn't give a reply to Harry, unsure of what to say.

"Did you just say my name twice?" Sirius smirked and Ginny felt a rather odd
Deja Vu. "As I said, this place is flooded from all the streams of your tears. When did you get this moody? It's quite annoying" Sirius grunted as he sat next to Ginny.

"You know when" Ginny muttered looking away. "Anyway, what are you doing here?"

"Came for your birthday, of course. I expected a party with alcohol and food. Why isn't there a party?"

"I don't want a party, get lost"

Sirius laughed "What you want then? Harry?"

Ginny looked at him sharply "You're annoying"

Sirius laughed again "Yeah, I get that a lot. Even Harry just called me annoying a minute ago"

Ginny's eyes widened "You...you talked to him?" she asked hesitantly.

Sirius's smile dimmed but he quickly covered it with a weak snicker "Did you?" he asked instead.

"It was no use" Ginny shrugged, willing to avoid the topic.

"Who knows? Maybe it was worth it."

Ginny quirked her eyebrows in confusion "What do you mean?"

"...he was here"

Ginny's head snapped at him so quickly that she could have cracked it "What!?"

"What? He was here, my godson. When I arrived at his house, he wasn't there. Then I came to your house and you weren't there either. So, I called Harry and he said he's here doing god knows what. We chatted for nearly ten minutes, you know, godfather and godson things" Ginny snorted, if she haven't stopped by Claire's house, she would have reached earlier than Sirius, and maybe then Harry and her had a chance to talk. The fact that Harry was here for her birthday made Ginny's heart flutter.
"Then you arrived, looking like an old lady, lost in your world. Harry dragged me away, you see that tree there?" he pointed to a huge tree "We hid behind it. Apparently, Harry couldn't look you in the eyes and shit. I asked him what was so special about this place"

"We celebrated my birthday here last year," Ginny said at the same time as Sirius said "He said you both celebrated your last birthday here"

Ginny nodded. "What was he doing here?"

"The same thing you're doing here"

Ginny nodded again, mutely. "He left?"

"Mmm"
"You got a text"

"yes, did you send--"

"oh no, Harry sent it, of course. I was just the audience"

"and he's okay with you telling me all this?"

"If he knew I told you all this, you'd be attending my funeral." Ginny chuckled "I promised him I wouldn't tell, though you know me, I don't keep my promises." Ginny sighed and tried to recall if she ever made Sirius promise for her secrets.

"hmm"

"So, how's it going between you two?" asked Sirius as if he didn't already understand how miserable they both are.

Ginny laughed haughtily "That's a great question, Sirius. You know what, you are the only person here who understands how's it going between us. It's simple, I love him - he loved me and now he has a girlfriend who happened to be my friend. If I say our relationship is complicated, that'd be a fucking understatement" Ginny breathed heavily, close to getting sick, the only feeling that stayed by her side ever since Harry left.

"Okay, wow. Looks like you've compressed a lot of stress in there, Ginny. You could shout it out, you know, there's no one around, just scream out everything you've been feeling, trust me, it feels better. I'll uh I'll just hide behind the tree again"

Ginny considered it for a second but smiled shaking her head, no. "Why exactly are you here, Sirius? To cheer me up?"

"No. Told you I came for booze and food."

For the next five minutes, they sat in pure silence, enjoying the pleasant sunset, and how the world around them is painted in orange and yellow. It's beautiful, the sound of birds returning to their nests and the sky was ablaze with the fire of the setting sun.

Until Sirius killed the silence "He loves you, y'know"

Ginny snorted "Yeah, right. He told me to fuck off"

Sirius gasped.

"I mean - not the exact words but he said he doesn't care and he doesn't want to be a part of my life anymore. If that ain't enough to know he lost his feelings, I don't know what is. Besides, we're missing the main part here, he has a girlfriend now"

"No, That's not the main part. The main part is that he loves you. How stupid of you to think he was over you - just like that."

"I...I don't blame him, Sirius. After everything I did, he has every right to move on and Hermione - she's just perfect for him. I--"

"Hermione was my idea. I pushed him into dating her because yes, you've put my godson through a lot of trouble and yes, he's dating her but that doesn't mean he loves her. Wake up Ginny, he was here, in this rotten place--" 'Hey!' Ginny protested in between but Sirius ignored her "--since this afternoon when he could just go on a date or enjoy with his girlfriend. If he really did move on, shouldn't he be happy but he's just as miserable as you"

To Ginny, the desire to beat Sirius intensified or maybe just a quick smack on the head. He's giving her hope, that's not something Ginny wants right now.
"Sirius, just stop this, alright? I can't - I can't go back to loving him and getting my heart broken all over again."

"...but ginny, you are already there"

Ginny was stunned. She felt like all the air oozed out of her and she couldn't breathe. She tried to gulp down the tears but they just continued to flow without her consent.

"Ginny..." Sirius hugged her close, rubbing her arms lightly.

"How did I end up here again, Sirius? After all these years?"

"Maybe - maybe you never moved on from him. You--"

"I did!" Ginny shrieked "It was hard but I did move on" Her mind travelled back to being jealous of Elle, how she couldn't react properly when Hermione confessed her crush on Harry, how she always talked about Harry to Theo, how she thought she admired green eyes of Theo's but she dreamt of those emerald green eyes of Harry's. Bloody hell, Sirius can't be right.
"We can't, Sirius. Harry and I - we don't belong together"

Sirius groaned "Stop saying that, I've heard that enough times from you. Did you tell him about your feelings?"

Ginny shook her head. "I can't"

"you can and you bloody will"
