CONFRONTATION

"Don't say a word or I will shoot you!" she pointed a pistol right at me, where did she get that from. What did I do to her now? What does she have against me?

"Susan..."

"Not a word, just come and sit." I did as she asked me to, while I was about to sit behind her she snarled and asked me to drive. I mentally sighed; I could have easily killed her if I sat at the back.

"But, I don't know where" I mentioned, she placed her fingers against her lips, indicating me to silence and I sat at the front while she moved towards the back.

"Just go straight." her voice was rude, and her gun was placed right on my forehead. One false move and the trigger would be pulled. The sun was going back to its home, lucky him. Unlike me, I started to run before he showed up, I was running when he showed up and I'm still running even when he's gone. My life is so not right.

She ordered me to take a right towards Bagalur cross and later left. A few metres further we reached a modest-looking house, with stylish rooftops, and pink walls. Why did she bring me here? She nudged me to stop and get off the bike. I turned the engine off, took the keys and she nabbed it away from me while I placed the stand of the bike.

Using the tip of the gun, she pushed me to walk forward. Instead of heading towards the entrance of the house, she proceeded downstairs and into what looked like an old rusted basement that didn't compliment the house in any way.

Descending the stairs was the tricky part, the bruises hadn't hurt until now, but as I stepped down the contraction and relaxation of my muscles seemed to be bothering the wound.

We reached the basement, it looked old, rusted and the wood boards creaked with every step. It was so similar to The Conjuring basement. It didn't have any artefacts thought; the huge cupboard was covered with cobwebs and dust. There weren't any mice or mouse but huge rats that ran at the dark corners of the cellar, rotten smell that would linger around you even if you leave the room.

Had she killed people here? The smell makes me want to throw up all the biryani that had been processed. Covering my nose with the back of my hand I twirled around to face her.

"Why here Susan?" She shoved me to sit on the chair that had a broken handle; I hoped all its legs weren't like mine. I sat on the broken one while she pulled a perfectly fine rocking armchair for herself and sat opposite to me, facing the gun at me.

"Why did you bring me here Susan?" She started to cry out loud, I had to move my hands from my nose to the ears. Her wail was worse than the disgusting smell. A fear crept within me, was she possessed?

"Why? Why did you do it?" Oh my gosh! How many times do I have to tell to these people, are they so blind even with perfect eyesight. They seem to believe everything those two grown-ups say.

"For your record 'I DIDN'T DO IT! Even you want the money right, that's why you are blaming his death on me. Are those three still alive? Did you save them?"

"You killed everyone Nats, do you even realise what you're doing? You're getting uncontrollable. You have to listen to us." Another round of tears burst out from her dam.

"You killed my Joy, Why? We were all set to fly to Los Angeles. He insisted on visiting you before leaving and..." She stopped in between her tracks. This girl was so irritable. Why does she shed tears after every sentence?

"...and what?" I probed.

"You killed him."

"I didn't ..." Why does everyone tell me this. I know I didn't do it.

"I saw you kill him Nats, everyone says your innocent but I know you are not. Let me tell you the truth, because your brain seems to create imaginary stories that are fake" Her voice echoed thought the floor. Fake...fake...fake...the words created a whirlwind inside my head.

"Joy and I were on our way to Los Angeles for his new project, do you even remember what the project was about? It was a dedication to you; I had seen his eyes light up like a firefly, when he spoke about it." She proceeded to crack her knuckles, finger by finger. Even when a finger didn't pop, she still stretched out her fingers.

"We told you that we would be there for three or four years since it's a huge project we are working upon and if we succeed in it, we would visit India occasionally. Ever since that day, you pestered Joy to stay, you said your parents would kill you if he left. You begged him, you said you loved him and he's all you got. You came up with different stories every day. "

"No..."

"Just ... Shut up." She ordered.

"We visited the hospital; the doctors said you have been diagnosed with schizophrenia."

Have I heard her right? Is this part of their plan to kill me? I'm perfectly fine, I'm not imagining things nor am I delusional. She is lying.

"The symptoms had been mild. You hated Mr and Mrs Hedge from the start, and it only worsened with age. None of us paid any attention, we assumed you just misinterpreted things and you would understand everyone better shortly. You were under medications; the treatment was on process, doctors were yet to find out if it was genetic.

You believed your parents are evil when they weren't. Everything that they did for you, you visualised it differently. Joy leaving you was something you couldn't take in." A loud thud was heard, I turned towards my back. I couldn't make out anything in the dingy room. The monster-sized rats must have tripped over something.

"You were admitted to a mental institute, Joy and I came to visit you, you acted all nice and told him you were fine. You said you wanted to view the stars with him one last time and you took him to the hospital terrace." I couldn't remember any of the events she said.

"It was taking a while, and you hadn't returned, when I came up I saw that you were seated on the railing. He was smiling at you, and you were talking to him, Pointing towards the stars, his eyes twinkled with every word you said. I was glad to see both of you beaming in delight; I was convinced you are fine. But, then I followed your other hand moving towards his back, he wasn't holding onto the railing, his legs were swinging back and forth. With one hard blow you pushed him...

...you killed him."

My mind raced with thoughts, I wasn't able to accept her tales. It felt unreal. I wouldn't have done that. I wouldn't have killed Joy.

"I... I...I lost consciousness, I would wake up in a hospital bed, panic and scream at the thought of Joy's death and they would drive me off to sleep. By the time I was completely fine and I came back home, no one had known the truth. Everyone believed your version of the story that he jumped on his own and that you tried to stop but he pushed you out of his way." Her voice was deadlier than He-who-must-not-be-named.

"I knew the truth, I told them the truth. They didn't trust me right on, but they did once we showed them the CCTV footage. It's all there you dumb head." How dare she scold me? Just cause she's my bro's girlfriend surely doesn't give her the rights to be so harsh at me.

"I wanted you to rot in jail, but they didn't inform the cops, they told me you were sick and you needed treatment. The doctors informed it was a serious medical condition. Everyone tried to protect you..." once again the tap was on, her constant tears bothered me, and at this rate she might create a flood inside this place.

"You killed everyone instead." her voice cracked, she sniffed her nose using her long sleeves.
