Chapter 4 ❣︎︎ Jam!
   Michael's  POV

California, 1993

I was working on projects in the studio for the upcoming "Dangerous" tour. I was waiting for Selena and her family to arrive to begin to work on her songs.

I had told my manager that I might have found a big new opening act for my show. Selena. I had to help her create her first album first then get the band ready. Then she could go on tour with me.

I had a feeling I had discovered something huge with Selena. I could not wait to hear if she could sing. To see if her band could play. I had a restless night and now I was drinking a ton of coffee. I tried to get a hold of Lisa. I was going to be on the road soon. You think she would want to spend some time with me.

Her house keeper told me that she was again out with her twins and the dad. Was she back together with Danny? Did she not bother to tell me? Was she cheating on me? Or were they only hanging out as she claimed?

I did not have time to worry about Lisa Marie. I would deal with her once my tour was over with. If she did not make time for me soon then I would assume we were over with. That she was back with Danny. I just was always the last to know these things. I cared about Lisa. Though the fizzle had died between us. We would always be friends.

No matter what happened between us.

I grab the phone to call one more time before Selena gets there in the studio.

"Hello?" Danny answered. In Lisa Marie's personal phone.

"Who is it Danny? Come back to bed?" I hear a sleepy Lisa saying.

I fume inside.

"Hello?" Danny asks again.

I slam down the phone. There was my answer. She was fucking around on me with her baby daddy. She was not going to get away with this. I thought she cared about me. About us. Bitter tears try to surface. I brush them aside.

"No then it starts como la florrrrr" I hear Selena singing as she comes in with her band.

"Did we have the right day?" Suzette worries when she spots my face.

"I just was having a rough day come in in" I tell them as I snap myself out of it.

"This is your studio? Wow man" AB says as he admires the place.

"This is the place" I brag. Selena looked fantastic. Again.

She smiled at me making my heart ache a bit. Then I force myself to smile back at her. She had perkey red lips. Bright brown eyes. She had a cute little blue crop top on that showed off her middriff. She had her makeup flawlessly done and had her nails.

"Are you sure you are okay?" worries Selena. "you look a little upset"

"I will be fine" I say. "let's get started"

"I will be on drums" adds Suzette. "this is my boyfriend Chris Perez he plays gutair. He also has his own band" brags Suzette.

I shake hands with Chris. He had long hair pulled back. He smiles at me. "Pleasure to meet you all"

"What song do you want to hear first? We have so many" mentions AB as he sits beside me. He shows me a play out of songs in his notebook.

"You guys wrote all these?" I say as I read them over. They nod.

"Sure did" says Selena as she stuffs her hands in her pants pocket.

"Can you play a practice song first? So I can see how you sound?" I ask them.

"How about Funky Town?" Selena asks me.

"Sure go for it" I say.

She nods then they get the band ready. Next thing I knew they had a beat going. Selena was belting out to Funky Town. They were so good. I was tapping my toes. She smiles as she sings. She had a fantastic voice. I sure had discovered something great here.

"Wow you guys sound fantastic!" I brag on them. I was blown away.

"You really mean that? You are not just saying that?" Selena wants to know.

"I truly mean that. You guys are fantastic" I say. "I have to have you on my tour"

"Wow!" hoots an excited Chris. "sign me up"

"Me to!" says Suzette.

"Let's make that album first. Then we need merch to sell" I explain. "I will have my manager discuss a contract with you all to look over as well if you join my music label"

"Alright" says Selena. "I will be happy to"

"I will get things drawn up. In the meantime let's get to work on music" I say.

We work on a few songs. I get some recordings in. Selena had a beautiful voice. Lunch time comes. I was going to order something to eat for us all to enjoy. But I was not sure what everyone would like. I go over some menu's I had laying on my desk.

"This is the best pizza place. Let's order from here" Selena says as she grabs a menu from me.

"Sounds good to me" agrees Chris.

I call and then order a few pizzas and salad. Bread sticks to. The food comes. I pay for it. Then Selena gives me half the money for it.

"I wanted to" she says with a grin.

We sit down to eat. I notice the Chris fella putting something on his pizza.

"Chris" sighs Suzette.

"Spicy!" he laughs.

"What is that?" I wonder.

"Hot sauce. Want some?" offers Chris.

"I will pass" I chuckle.

"He puts that sauce on everything" Selena warns me.

"Everything?" I laugh.

"Not everything" Chris laughs. "It does not go with chocolate cake" he jokes.

Everyone groans.

"Chris!" laughs Selena.

I was enjoying being around this family. Before they packed up for the day I was listing to what they recorded. Selena sounded amazing. She had no need for back up vocals. Her cords were powerful.

"How much?" she offers.

"For what?" I ask her. I was confused.

"For time here in the recording studio how much?" she asks me.

I frown. "Nothing it is on me" I say.

"No in every studio they charge" she points out. "so how much?"

"Nothing it is on me" I add.

"No, I always pay my own way" she argues.

"Alright then I will send you a bill" I tease.

"You better" she adds.

"Can you all come back tomorrow?" I ask. I will have a contract drawn up by then"

"We can be here" offers AB.

"I look forward to it. See you soon Selena" I say before they head out.

"Bye Michael, I had a blast today" she says before smiling at me. I smile back as she heads out with the others.

The phone rings.

"Hello?"

"You wanted to talk? So, talk"

Lisa Marie!

"What is going on with Danny?" I demand to know.

"Have your little spies follow me? Is that it? Don't you trust me?" she snaps.

"I called before. Your boyfriend answered the phone" I snap.

"Oh, look we are only having fun. It was nothing serious. I still only love you Michael. Just things happen. I was bored. You were not here it meant nothing" she lies to me.

"Sure Lisa" I sigh.

"Michael we can work this out, my kids miss you. Want to get together before you go on tour? Like we talked about?" she offers.

I wince. "Sure, we can do that" I agree. Then I could break things off with her in person.

"Great, I can throw you a going away party" she offers.

"No thanks Lisa I would like to get together and have a small dinner party. Family only" I say.

"No, it will be amazing. We can call Madonna Whitney everyone to have a big party" she brags. "it will be the party of the year" she tells me. "I gotta go"

She hangs up. She never listened to me. Ever. She only cared about what she wanted. Not what I wanted. It was all one sided.

I was so ready to break things off with her. It was not working for us. This was over with. I wondered if Selena had a boyfriend? Surely someone as beautiful as she was had to have a man in her life right?
