Chapter 55: Boom.
Song for the start of the chapter!
"Sherlock's phone your speaking to," John said on the other end of the phone that I dialed.
I turned down a road and quickened my pace. "Why do you have his phone? You know what, doesn't matter. This is a reminder call. Move a fourth of the treasure to the warehouse. He doesn't need to see it all to believe it's real," I said into the phone as I walked to meet up with Lestrade.
"Then Sherlock, Molly, and I will move all of it back to the van and replace it with old musty paintings," John said, making sure his plan a lined with mine.
"Hey, those were my old paintings that I made," I defended myself but in all reality, I knew they weren't my best works.
"And they're beautiful," John corrected himself.
I smiled as I looked at the Scotland Yard building. Time to set the plan into motion. "I'll give you a text when I'm ready for the fireworks."
"We'll be waiting."
"Oh and John?" I asked as I walked into the building.
"Yes?"
"Thank you for everything that you have done." I don't think I have ever told him thank you. I needed to, it had been a long time running and it was about time he heard it from me.
"That's what family is for."
I took a deep breath in and let it out slowly to calm my nerves, feeling jittery. Zane thought he could outsmart me, ha, I always found a way out. "Thank you. Well, I have go. I'll see you guys soon." I hung up the phone as walked out of the elevator.
I turned down a hall and pass different people, some of them I knew, but I didn't care to talk. I was in tunnel vision. I walked into Lestrade's office without even knocking.
He looked up from his papers he was reading and frowned at me. "Rori, I have been waiting for a while for you," he said and checked the time on his watch. "Three hours to be exact."
I frowned. Well it took me three hours to put this plan into order. "I've been busy." I looked at the clock on the wall amazed that it really did take that much time to set the plan in place. It was seven at night. I was surprised that he managed to stay in the office this long to wait for me.
"So about this boat yard. Are you sure you don't know any more about it?"
I had thought long and hard of what to say to him but I had to watch my words. "I haven't been honest with you about that."
"And what do you mean by that?" he asked as he leaned forward in his seat.
"Come and I'll show you." I walked out of his office waiting for him to follow me.
Lestrade didn't speak one word as we got onto and off the Tube. We walk to the boat house in silence and I was ok with that. Lestrade broke that silence however when we were almost there. "Where are we going?"
I held back a laugh, it wasn't until now that he asks? It was about time he started asking questions. "We're going to the boat yard." I replied simply. "You need to see it with your own eyes. I can't explain it in just words."
"Can't this wait till tomorrow?" he asked barely keeping up with me. I slowed down my pace, not realizing I was walking so fast.
I shook my head at him. This was going to end tonight. "No." I was ready for this all to be over. We got to the front of the large metal boat yard and I stopped. "This is it." I looked at him and then got on my knees and unlocked front door. We walked in together. In front of us in the open were loads different paintings also boxes boarded up. It really did look like valuable treasure but I knew half of these paintings were of my own making.
"I don't know what to say about this," Lestrade said as he looked at all of it.
"This is why we were here. This was the treasure that everyone wanted. I suppose that Zane told you that I knew about this because he wanted to take it away from me. But I want to give it up willingly. This is my choice." I watched him walk over to a painting and look at it in close detail. Thank goodness Lestrade didn't know a thing about art because that was my work he was picking up.
"We need to call this in."
I sighed, "That's what I thought you would say." I needed to not give in so easily. I needed to fight to keep some because that's what I normally would do. "But to be fair, I did find it. I want to keep some of it."
"And I suppose that the Nazis got it fair and square as well," he pointed out causing me to frown. He had a point. How could to trump that? "No promises."
I shook my head at him. This was all a stage but I wasn't about to let him get away with bossing me around. "No, you will promise me because I was willing to tell the truth. I was willing to show you my treasure. The treasure that Sherlock go shot for, the treasure I died for. I deserve at least some of it."
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. "You have a right to tell me the truth because I am the police, Rori. Let's talk about this outside in the fresh air. I don't get reception in here," he said with his phone in hand. Somehow John got a police scrambler.
He followed me out and I turned to face him as we walked into the fresh night air. "50% that's all I'm asking for."
"Rori." He sighed as he looked at his phone with a frown. Still no service.
"40%?"
"After I make this call, we'll talk about it," he said and walked a little farther way from the building to get service. He then put the phone up to his ear.
As soon as I heard him start to talk in the phone I pulled out mine discreetly. The text was ready I just had to hit send. I pushed the button and stuffed the phone back into my pocket before Lestrade saw it. He was so clueless sometimes, I could get away with almost anything under his nose. I listened to Lestrade talk on the phone as I waited for the big boom.
"I have no idea what is all in there. You need to get a squad down here right away....No I can't pick you up... Are you kidding me? I took the Tube....Yes... Ok.... I'll see you in 45 minutes." And with that his put his phone into his pocket and walked back over to me.
"So about the cut....."
"I need to get my men over here first." And that's when I knew he wasn't going to give me anything. He was going to procrastinate until it was all confiscated. That was why I wasn't going to let him have any of this treasure. I deserved it, not him.
"Just promise I'll get some of it." I wanted to make this sound believable. My hands shook, waiting for the boom to happen. Soon this was going to be all over. I stuffed my hands into my pocket to prevent him from seeing them.
His face twisted as if he was in pain. "fine," he spat out to me. And with that the building erupted in a loud boom and all the windows shattered.
That was my queue to be the most dramatic person in the world. As if someone I knew was in that building I lunged towards it. "No!" I tried to run into the building, but Lestrade held me back as flames engulfed it.
"It's not worth it Rori!"
"But... It....No... I found that.... It's gone...." I said as I forced myself to shed tears. I should win an Emmy for this. This was one of my best works, I think.
"SShhhhh," he said as he pulled me to the ground to try to comforted me.
"It's.....No..... I... Sherlock got hurt because .... It's gone now.... Is this what Zane wanted....." I sat on the ground for a couple minutes thinking about what to say next. I watched the building burn and held back a smile. Sherlock and John did a good job. They made me proud.
As I heard sirens grow closer, I knew it was time to be angry. I looked at the building then back to Lestrade. "Oh I'm going to kill him for this. Zane did this. I know he did. He wants to see me suffer." I got up from the ground as I watched the building start to break down. "Take me to him."
"I don't think that is the smartest idea."
"It's the smartest idea that comes to my mind," I said letting out all my anger. It felt pretty good honestly.
"I'm going to call someone to send you home. You have been through a lot this past couple days." Finally, he's going to let me relax. It's about time he saw that I was at my breaking point.
"No, I'm staying here."
He pulled out his phone and put it to his ear. "I'm calling John" He said to me then said, "..... yes John, um can you come and pick up Rori at the boat yard? It's been a long day and she needs to go home.... Yes... I'll see you in 15."
"Why the hell did you do that? I can take the Tube home."
"I don't trust you in the state you're in." he said as he turned back to the building. I looked at the sky to see small bits of paper raining down from the sky.
"But I, I need to..." I stomped my foot down and let out a sigh. "I hate Zane!"
"He'll get what he deserves Rori, I promise you that much," Lestrade said as if that was a fact.
I hid the smile that came to my face. Finally, I won. I beat him.

"So you threw yourself at the building while it was burning?" Molly asked me as we were back in the flat that same night.
"I was very dramatic."
"And you think he believed it?" John asked as he sat in the same chair he always did when he was here. Sherlock was laying on the couch with his eyes closed, he was awake but he was thinking about something. I could tell by the way he was knitting his brows together.
"He believed all of it. We're home free," I said confidently to them.
There was a minute of silence and then John spoke up, "so, you have all this treasure, are you going to buy an island and run?"
My smile dropped. I hadn't thought this far ahead. For months all I could think of was finding it, but know that I had it, I didn't know what to do with it. For the first time in a ling time I didn't have a plan. "Um, I like it here, in London. With you lot." I said with a smile. "And no John, I'm not going to donate it to a museum." I added stubbornly.
The little glimmer of hope that John had in his eyes faded as soon as I said this. He always thought of me as this great person but sometimes I was not great at all. I was selfish, stubborn, head strong, determined, but that was me. "There is always room here for you Rori." Sherlock said still not opening his eyes to look at me.
"Thanks Sherlock it means a lot."
"What's the plan now?" John asked.
"Beside putting away the bad guys of London? I don't know.". For the first time in a long time I wasn't thinking about the future. I was just enjoying the time I had here in this moment in time. I didn't know what the future had for me but one thing was sure, it was going to pretty darn fantastic.
so that was it! last chapter to the great adventure of Rori and Sherlock! it has been amazing writing this and I didn't even think it would get as popular as it did. thank you for everyone that has commented and voted. I think I had just as much fun writing it as you guys did reading it. I guess next of my list is to edit it some and then go from there. I want to write another story but I don't know of what.
but thank you for everything!
