Chapter 30: Second Wave
Look out for the <>!
"Is that it?" Trevor asked hopefully as he peeked out the window that was in the family room. We either killed her men or locked them up in the basement an hour ago. Since then, things have been quiet but I know more would come, it was just a matter of time.
I knew she wouldn't be in the first wave that came through. She was smart, she would be in the second group when we were at our weakest. "No, that was just the welcoming crew." I winced as I sat down on the floor feeling my aching, bruised, and broken body. I was worn out and I just wanted to rest.
We waited for about 30 minutes in silence until the sun started to go down. My eyes were getting more tired by the moment and soon I gave into their command, sleep. I laid down and put my head on John's lap and quickly fell asleep.
"Maybe she's not coming," John said, causing me to open my eyes to see that the sun had gone away completely.
"How long was I out?" I asked John as I sat back up slowly. My body ached even more then before as I moved.
"Maybe an hour."
I looked around and saw that Trevor wasn't to be seen. "Where's Trevor?"
"He went to get candles from the kitchen. The power is out."
"Ok," I said as I heard a loud bang, causing me to jump to my feet. I ran to the window and saw that a huge van had pulled next to the house. The car that I had already exploded was on fire again.
"They're here." John got up from the ground and got his gun then ran upstairs, reading himself for the next wave.
I got my gun and peeked out the window through the boards to see if I could see her. I saw about another eight more people that came out of the van and then came the women of the hour. I felt my heart speed up as I looked at the one I had been waiting for. Her short blonde hair was pulled up into a bun, looking like she was ready for a fight, one that I would give.
I watched her look around her surroundings with a cocky smirk. She had this confidence that was extremely irritating. She pull out a mega phone and started talking into it. "Now Rori, I know you're here. Why don't you just hand yourself in and this will be easy."
I had no intentions on handing myself in so instead I just kept quiet and watched, wanting to know what would happen next. There was a minute of silence as her confident smirk fell to a frown. "You have five more seconds to decide. 5,4, 3, 2, 1. Ok if that's the way you want it so be it." She motioned to her people to get into the house.
"Here it goes." I pumped my gun and within a minute, a man came rounding the corner but he stepped on one of the floor boards that had a bomb underneath. I looked away as the board exploded.
I ran into the back room were two men were there, trying to untie the man that we put in the pantry. He was the only one we didn't put into the basement and now I was wondering why we didn't send him there to begin with.
Without thinking, I fired my gun at one of the men from around the corner. It hit him in the leg and fell to the ground. The other ducked down and shot my way, missing me. I waited until he reloaded then I popped out around the corner and shot him in the leg as well.
As soon as I did that a grenade came through the window of the room and exploded with a load bang. It knocked me off my feet, causing me to fall to the ground. My head smacked hard against the hard wood floor causing me to lay there for a moment in a daze until I realized I had to keep going or they would find me. I pushed myself up from the ground and crawled through to the kitchen just as another grenade come rolling in. It popped loudly, sending debris flying, hitting my body.
"Come out and play Rori," Alice's voice ring out in a sing song tone as another grenade came flying in, shaking the house as it exploded. I knew that this place wouldn't be able to handle all these explosions much longer. The house would come down sooner or later.
I pushed myself up from the ground and ran to the stairs. I needed to get John and Trevor out of here. As long as they went to a safe place, I had done my job. "Get you and Trevor out of here!" I shouted to John, knowing that he would take the passage.
"There you are," a man said behind me as he grabbed my arm and twisted it around behind my back so I couldn't move without it hurting. "You're coming with me."
"No I'm not!" I spun around, feeling my shoulder pop out of place as I kicked him in the chest, just like I did to Lestrade a few days earlier. "I'm not going anywhere." I got out my pistol and shot him in the upper leg, causing him to cripple over with pain. I pistol whipped him to the ground as he fell unconscious.

"Now that's such a shame. I did like that man," Alice said in the door way of the house. "He had one job, and he let me down."
"I have learned long ago that people normally just let you down," I shrugged coolly as I aimed the gun at her. This was the moment I had been waiting for, just me and her. I could pull the trigger right now but as I aimed at her chest, I couldn't force myself to do it.
"Now do you really want to do that?" she asked as she got out her gun and trained it on me in a blink of an eye. She then dropped her gun and came running at me. She tackled me to the ground causing the air to be knocked out of me.
"You don't know how long I waited to do this." She straddled me as she punched my face. I felt the sting of the punch by now my body was starting to get numb. "I didn't think you would fight so hard. After I get you working for me, I'll kill your friends as recompense for all of my people and jobs that you messed up. You'll have no one ever again and you won't have anywhere to go."
With a bloody taste in my mouth I shook my head at her. "No! You will never do that!" I took out a knife I had in my front pants pocket and stabbed her hand.
She screamed and held her hand in pain, this distracted her enough for me to wiggle out of her grasp and get up from the ground. I held onto the wall, feeling the world spin. I wouldn't be able to last much longer but I had to stop her.
"You think you have friends, but Sherlock put you in prison. I wouldn't count that as a friend." She was trying to turn me against him, but little did she know, I already knew this information.
"I know and I have made peace with it. I am learning to understand why he did what he did," I said and took slow steps away from her, hugging the wall in the process. I was amazed at how fast she regained herself, it was scary. I took a poor step on a broken board and tripped, causing me to fall on my butt.
"I have been planning to get you for years." She said as she slowly walked towards me.
As I tired to get up, she kicked me in the chest sending a sharp pain throughout my body. I rolled out of her way and started to cough. I couldn't get my breath and every time I tried, it felt like my lungs were on fire.
"Did you ever wonder who set that frame that made you end up in prison? I did. I saw Sherlock looking into you and I wanted you all to myself so I put you there, knowing that he wouldn't be able to get you. Sherlock got in my way however when he suggested watching over you and my plan fell through. That man, he needs to learn to keep his nose out where it doesn't belong. I think that's the first person I'll get rid of."
"No!" I choked out as I tried to get up until she kicked me again. The force of the impact caused me get knocked back against the wall.
I looked up at her with fear. I was cornered with nowhere to go. This was the end of the line for me, I couldn't beat her. She won.
"One thing you should know about me, Rori, is that I always get what I want." She reached down and pulled me up by my hair then pinned me against the wall. I felt her fingers slowly squeeze into my neck, stopping the air flow to my lungs. I thrashed around but I knew that the battle was over. All that fight, and effort was for not. She was going to get what she wanted no matter what the cost.
As I tried to take one more struggling breath, I heard a gun fired and she clasped to the ground, dead. I fell to the ground and took a deep breath then coughed as I looked at Alice's lifeless body. It was over.
"And I always get what I need," a voice said from the hall. I wiped my eyes in hopes to clear my vision with no luck. I couldn't make out who it was but he started to walk towards me. I recognized the voice though, Lestrade. He was the one the fired the gun. He was the one that ended this, not me.
"You could have come here sooner," I said as I fumbled around, trying to pull myself up from the ground.
"Sorry, you know London traffic on a Friday night," he said as he helped me up. I looked up at Lestrade and smirked. I was so grateful to be seeing him at this moment.
"Thanks for coming," I said as I took a step forward and tripped over my feet but before I fell, Lestrade caught me, putting his arm around my waist. I winced, my body hurt all over, I just wanted to go to bed and sleep for days.
"I wouldn't miss it. Now where is Mr. Watson?"
"He's with Trevor at the shack about kilometer from here." I pointed down the valley as we walked outside. Now that the sun was gone it was colder than normal for a spring night, making me shiver.
"Ok I'll get them," he said and started to walk the way, leaving me alone in the drive to fend for myself.
I frowned, I didn't want to be alone, fearing one of her men would still take me away. "I'll help you out." I stumbled across the driveway, tripping on little pebbles.
"No you're going to wait in the car." He led me to one of the three black cars in the drive.
Without me fighting, I walked to the car and flopped down on one of the black leather seats. I was now starting to feel bad for how hard I kicked him the other day. "I'm sorry I kicked you."
"It's ok. Sherlock told me the whole story."
As soon as he closed the door I felt myself sink into the seats that were so comfy and warm. I curled up on the seats and closed my eyes. It was over. Everything was over.
